Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a (non-blended, thanks) cheeseburger

and a chocolate chip frozen concrete, please.

Thanks.

Terry, I was going to suggest along the lines of BridgeTom's suggestion, that you mush up (like with a tenderizer mallet) a cheeseburger and bun, once you get to where you could eat some softer foods. Just 'smoosh it' down...

Tom, I was a bit concerned when I heard this a.m. about the fires outside of Yosemite. Haven't ever managed to get there, and don't want it burned down before I even get the chance! Shock [:O] Hope that they can contain the brushfires and knock them down and put out. Keep tending to Lowell there and spoiling him. Yeah!! [yeah]

Fergie, that looks really nice for one (ahem...) MESS (tm) of a loco! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Nice photo of the original engine, too. Thumbs Up [tup] And how wide will your curves have to be, with all those additional locomotives?

Lee, you just get those traction tires replaced, and pay no attention to Tom's remarks.Laugh [(-D] Besides, I doubt that Tom's cats will let an engine get away, since without the locos, the cabeese might be shipped out soon after that. Wink [;)]

No more news on the lady front - tried to call her back yesterday a couple of times, but got voicemail. So she was either out doing something with her son, or she's mad that I ran a bit late calling her. With women, I never can tell what their reasons are... Anyone else ever have that difficulty? Nah? Whistling [:-^]

Time to chow down for lunch. Everybody doing all right today?

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jeff .............. The Rock Island had some small passenger units (Model TA) on that style of trucks built by Electro Motive........  They did not look like F7's however. They looked like baby E6's.......In later years Rock Island "kitbashed' a lot of locomotive units into some interesting creations....So your free lancing falls into the "plausible realsim" category

The rains have finally stopped for a while, sun is out, I have never in 69 years seen this area so green going into the last week of July. I picked all the beets today in the garden and sank up over my ankles in mud. The tomato plants are now taller than me,..... crazy !!!! And this week we have TS's forecasted every afternoon except Tuesday....more downpours. We have had 6.16" of rain so far in July which is WAY over normal. The farmers need to cut the hay, but they are afraid it won't dry, they need 2 days of sun after cutting.

FERGIE: BRASS !!!!!!  How did Lisa ever let you spring for BRASS? That is about $950 Canadian isn't it? Or, a ratio of 90-1 doing HD jar tasks !!!!! She sure is a great looking locomotive !!!!!! When does she go to the paint shop?

Later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Twhite, you're more than welcome to visit and see if you can pull these, lol. I think new traction tires will do the trick.  On my budget brass might as well be gold locomotives, LOL.  I wonder if I added weight to the locomotive. Did you read my post about my friend's cat?  I thin she has been doing the IV's and special diet for 2-3 years now. You know some of those trees that drop pine cones; the cones will only open to drop seeds when they are bathed in fire.  I also understand that burning the ground adds nutrients into the soil.

Fergi, after looking at your new locomotive I see I joined the wrong Coast Guard, oh wait you guys are all civilians' right?  So you get overtime too?

Jeff, the new couplers look good.

I think another thing hurting my traction is that new metal preservative I added to the rails last month.

Morning all from SunnyCal:

Supposed to hit high 80's here today with a nice, fresh Delta breeze.  Most of the fires are under control now, except a couple in the Shasta Trinity area in the far north state.  Unfortunately another one blew up down south of us near Yosemite.  Not in the park, but fairly close.  Very steep terrain down there--knocked out the electricity to the park itself.  About 1,000 acres according to the news reports.

If there is one saving grace about some of these fires, it's that they were 'ground' fires, and not crowning out in the treetops, so actually, some of the fires did the forests more good than harm, thinning out the underbrush.  Nature's own way of re-forestation.  Unfortunately, those fires that DID 'crown' out have destroyed the forests for generations to come (and when we get our wet Sierra winters, we'll probably have a lot of mudslides to boot).

Not much new on the home front.  The little furry guy (Lowell) is kinda-sorta holding his own, but I have to take him into the vets for his daily injections (I tried it on my own and it just didn't work).  He's still pretty perky, but his appetite has slipped a little.  Some days I think he'll make it, other days I think that I'm not going to have him very much longer.  It's a wait and see proposition.

Fergie:  My God, the brass bug has HIT, man!  Is that sweet little Pacific yours now?  Oh, and PS:  You can order the Brass Book (latest edition) from brasstrains.com  Pricey, but I understand it's worth every penny.  I'm thinking about it, myself.

Jeff:  Wow, you found a prototype for that F with Alco trucks.  I kind of thought there were examples of such a conversion.  And I sure like what you did with the baggage car.

Lee:  Would you like to--ahem--borrow one of my Yellowstones for that coal drag of yours?  I can guarantee you that you won't have any spinning drivers, LOL!   Those 3 brass babies of mine don't even know what the phrase MEANS! Tongue [:P]

Flash:  Continued prayers for your father.

Terry:  How about cheeseburgers a-la-'blender' until September?  Keep healing, buddy!

Well, have to get Lowell ready for his trip to the vet, so I'll sign off for now.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Purdy. But that;'s not the same one we were talking about on the 170s, was it?

As to 5% grades, let me introduce you to the Madison Incline (5.89). Where 70 Might get you the ability to skip across the Ohio River in a wodden boxcar just out to the deepest spot as you wave helplessly at the Indiana or Kentucky coasts...

Jeff, that looks real close, your train crews won't need to jump to get to the rear of the train.  In high school I remember doing a walk through and they had a metal plank down between the two units.

Jerry, it looks impressive until you chat with the train crew; they can't move it with my largest locomotive, LOL! I plan on lubricating the hoppers axel gimbals and replacing the traction tires on the Challenger.  And as with everything I do I have a new project; operating front end couplers for the mallet and the challenger.  The challenger should be a challenge (pun intended) since the cow catcher has a door in the grill that hides the current non-operating coupler.  Then if that doesn't work I'll be buying a second challenger to run them in tandem.

Maybe I should drop the coal drag down to 30 cars?!?

Terry best wishes on a speedy recover, over all was everything a sucsess (I'm behind on posts)?

Flash, true, he needs to heed doctor's orders and take things slow, remind him: Rome wasn't built in a day.

Morning all. Isn't it nice to get up in time for breakfast? Some blueberry muffins with a little butter, a trio of warm sausage, some OJ, and a glass of milk. Life am good.

Waiting for a phone call from Indiana Transportation Museum soon so I can find out where and what all I'll be doing. I'm hoping he'll call soon so I can still do some more recovery of items at Dad's. And truth be told, I'm hoping he'll calls so I can sqeel like a girl in a shoestore. "Working" on a Railroad. Boo, and Yah!!! Good morning all,

I guess my monitor is larger than everyone's in the dinner when it comes to who has tops.

Flash, no sarcasm intended.  Having a mental goal (wanting to go for a walk) is 75% of the battle.  As they teach us, you get shot you have to continually tell yourself: "I'm going to live" and you have to concentrate on what you plan to do after you get patched up.  People that think negatively about their prognosis statistically don't achieve their recovery goals.

The only MRR stuff yesterday; I did put the first coat of paint on my BL1 and the finish coat on a caterpillar tender for my Challenger.  I have a couple locomotives I would like to swap the Vanderbilt tenders for square side caterpillar tenders.

Fergie, you're a little young for a "Bucket list" aren't you?

Rob, when do the contractors plan on finishing your house?

Lee

The tags are like $25.00 every year that is personal property tax they lay that on boats, trailers ( camping, cargo and boat trailers ) , autos ect . it goes by the value of the vehical so mine should go down every year as they say.

But on the other hanbd our sales tax is low here it was 9% in TN here it depends on what but its about 5% and none on food you buy to prepare items at the grovcery store.

Evening, Janie - I'll have some vegetable stew, glass of milk, and an RBF for dessert, please. Thank you!

Heartland Division CB&Q:

Hello everyone........

Uh oh! ........Did you read jimCG's post carfully. He's bcome quite the casanova evidently.

Garry, I think you've been reading my dreams more than my real life experiences.Sigh [sigh]Zzz [zzz]
The reality isn't nearly that exciting. But hey, a guy can dream...  Looks like you're getting pretty fancy with those windows, though. Thumbs Up [tup]

PC, that's pretty amazing about that semaphore signal - is that on a branch line, or what? Surely not on a mainline (even if they use radios nowadays for directions, or something else more modern).

Flash, I gather from your post that possibly somebody was racing in your neck o' the woods, huh? Your Dad is in our Angel [angel]Angel [angel] - and the rest of your family...

RT, sounds like the familiar 'feast or famine', between the property taxes and shorting you the OT and holiday pay. But should be nice when that updated paycheck shows its face! Yeah!! [yeah]

Jeff, I think we only got up to 90 F or so this afternoon, with 60 percent RH. Heck, it's already cooled off to 88 F by almost 6 p.m. our time...Whistling [:-^]Wink [;)]

Lee, at 19 feet of hoppers, that is a load to haul - it's not too surprising that the Challenger's wheels were slipping a little. That's a heap of hoppers! I suspect on RT's truck (unless Missouri is a lot different), that if they're calling it 'property tax', that would be an annual (or if RT's lucky, only every two years) thing. If it were sales taxes, that'd be a one-time thing.

Oh, and Luke (NH I-5) - congrats on your 1000th!

I've been helping my (current) co-leader of the singles group in trying to get some older WordPerfect files off her older Mac (Performa 630CD, waayyy old!) and onto and converted for use on her iMac (the newer one that looks like ET's cousin - half-round base and a big flat screen on the end of a pivot arm; looks like an overgrown desk lamp). The older 'puter doesn't have any connectors like the iMac does (so no direct cable business), but it does have a 1.4 MB floppy drive, so I may be able to move the files on that to an external floppy drive hooked up to the iMac. Then the fun part - converting from the WPD format into something more usable on her system. She doesn't have Word (which might import them), but I may be able to do it via my laptop and Neo Office (an open source equivalent for Office). Reason she needs them converted is: 1) she wants to simplify to just one Mac and sell/donate the second, and 2) the files are various beginnings of one or more books that she wants to get back to finishing. (She worked for a bit as a newspaper reporter, I think).

Got to get this posted and head back home. I want to get something done on my layout stuff and quit just talking about it. (Sheesh!)Blush [:I] Hmm, I could see about putting together some of my hoppers. But I'll need to do some painting, since most of 'em are undecorated kits. But then again, I don't have (or expect to get anytime soon) any Challenger, so my line will be much shorter. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Whistling [:-^]

Hope you all have a restful evening - and JP? - have a smooth as silk trip home (on the right plane)!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

RT is that $200 every year for tags or just one time?  Here I'm complaining about $45/year for truck tags.

I-5, yes it's rather long, and the Challenger just spins it's wheels, so I'm looking for new tires for it to help it out.
