Been out today looking at refrigerators. The one I have is going on fourteen years old now. It may run for another ten years or may quit in the next ten days, no way to tell. Anyway, I found several that meet my requirements, are new and are below $400. It's always good to know where to grab a new one.

Afternoon Gang: I just wanted to let you all know that the surfery went well. I got back about an hour ago and am feeling good. I have a small headach and that is all. I can't take asprin so Ill have to find some Tylinol. Right now I have a metal patch with a blue rubber edge over my right eye. Help the Borg are assymilating me. I'll be able to take the patch off in about an hour and remove the pad that is under neath it. Then the patch or my glasses go back on to protect the eye. I'll have to wear the patch while I sleep so I don't rub the eye in my sleep. I also have a sore throat from the breathing tube.

JP: you take care over there. When I went to Viet Nam I took a suppleof modeling stuff. I managed to build two small shelf layouts and a couple of scratch built HOn3 cars. Walthers was able to get me stuff I had ordered altho it did take some time.

Well I think that I'll laydown for a bit. I've got to do my ORF credits.

See you all later.

Good afternoon ......raining out, 51F, so I didn't get the rest of the garden planted. With food prices going crazy, we are planting every kind of veggie that we eat. We also have Apple and Pear trees, blueberries, strawberries, red raspberries and black berries. I still can't get bananas and oranges to grwo up here in zone 5 though, LOL

Tomorrow we are headed up the Mass Pike to Lenox, Ma and the train station on the CSX  ( formerly old B&A main line ). The MBRE ( Mass Bay Railroad Enthusiasts, what a mouthful ) is sponsoring a railfan trip up in the Berkshires. It will run from Lenox to Pittsfield, then turn south and travel all the way to Canaan, Connecticut all along the Hoosatonic River, and back to Lenox. Part of this trip will be along trackage that has not seen passenger trains since the 70's. The trip starts at 10:30 and is scheduled back by 5:30 depending upon the runbys for photo ops. The weather is supposed to be sunny for most of this trip luckily, as we have one storm departing by 6am tomorrow and another moving in by tomorrow night. Vintage Diesels will be and the front end as well as vintage passenger cars.

GARRY: Duke's bike is very quiet, at least the bike he came here to visit me with.

ATTABOY: We are actually OK for rainfall, it's just that it has been so windy and very low humidity, so the woods dry out VERY quickly until everything is fully green.

J.P.: Our prayers will be with you every night young soldier, you watch yourself over there please.

TOM: Shake, Bake, Fire, then Mudslides.....you forgot a couple. Nice job on the turnout replacement, it really feels good when things work as planned doesn't it?

PAUL: We actually are not in a drought, as mentioned above, it's the high winds in combination with very low humidity that have been causing the trouble.

SUE: I see you guys on the west coast have been getting record breaking heat!! Be careful mending those fences in that heat, you can dehydrate in a hurry.

Later guys,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Rob, personally, I go for the Micro-Trains, but if it comes with Accumates I'll usually leave it unless it's a problem child.  As for the older cars, I convert them to MT's by buying the MT bulk packs.  I do the low profiles though, and the bulk packs of those are getting hard to find since MT changed how they packaged them so that they make us buy the wheels seperate. Disapprove [V]  I also actually prefer the plastic wheels to the metal ones.  I don't see a big difference in the cleanliness between the plastic and the metal (I've experimented), and the plastic ones are much quieter.  The only things I run metal wheels on are loco's (obviously) and lighted cars that need the power pickup, like passenger cars and cabeese.......but thats just me.

Coffee refill, please.

***Jerry, considering 99% of my cars have rapido, you're way ahead of me with those Accumates. I have wondered if by the time I convert each of my vintage cars, if I might be better off selling them off and then buying newer cars that already come with those metal wheels and fancy couplers?

Just got back from a Hay run. This years round bales = real nice looking hay!

For anyone who never saw these before (like me), here are some cool tractor/train photos to share. Anyone know where they were taken?

Afternoon everyone.  Friday afternoon, the supervisor left for the day and I'm just killing time till I can do the same.

Good evening everyone........got a good start on planting the veggie garden today, I should get the rest done tomorrow. We didn't get much rain here today, the air is so dry that as the front approached it literally dried up.

Dick, I would send you some rain if I could, we've had too much here.  Not more than 2 or 3 dry days in a row.  A construction crew has been trying to build a new bridge over a creek I cross on my way to work.  For at least three weeks they have been trying to build the center pier in the middle of the creek.  They set up barriers, pumped out the water, dug the hole to bed rock and set up reinforcing rod for the foundation.  Then it started to rain.  The barriers have been washed out twice, the third one they put in is higher and heavier but the last rain the water still flowed over the top.  Yesterday I noticed it was below the top of the barrier again, but it has been raining all day today.  By the time they get the water pumped out again they will have to take out the reinforcing rods and move a lot of mud.

Weather guesser is calling for thunderstorms tomorrow too.  That's okay for me though, the girlfriend works all day tomorrow and there is a train show in Allentown.  Sounds like a good day to be inside with trains all day.

See you later.

Good morning, I think coffee will help open my eyes.  Maybe one of those big gooey cinnamon rolls, Chloe.

Today should hit 90, so I will head out early to work on fence.  I will check in when I come in for lunch.

Music to my ears: This morning my wife commented what a neat layout we're going to have one day. Big Smile [:D] Then she asked if they sell HO scale Civil War figures? She wants to have a "reenactment" battle on her layout. (I think she is going to need a 4'x8' table to include everything she wants to have)

Morning gang!

Thanks for the well-wishes. I guess the best thing I have going for me on this trip is the great group of co-worker's that will be going as well. 18 days and counting to takeoff!

Well, need to get going. Have to hit the dr office on the way in to have some stitches removed from my right calf area. Then, off to work. After that, will be haircut, and shopping for items for the party my mom is having tomorrow.

Take care and enjoy the day!

Good morning,

Raining here, glad I fixed the downspout problem yesterday, oh and I found a magnolia tree to plant in the front yard to replace the one the neighbor kids destroyed last year. HD is having a tree and bush sale up here almost 50% off the normal prices.

John, good luck in the litter box, if you make it to Camp Spearhead tell me what is going on, Rumor control central said they have regular barracks there now and a Starbucks.  I've built almost all those buildings I got from you about a year ago.  Again good luck.

Tall glass of cool water, thanks.

Well, put up for auction on the-bay my last articulated loco, a vintage Rivarossi Mallet. Also a Life Like F7. Hope they do well.

***Jim, tried setting out track on the board following the most basic plan and discovered something..."that door is toooo dang small". Moved a few sections around here and there and still there is little room for any kind of plant/complex. Will take a pic of it to show you what I mean. If I could increase the layout size by even 1/2, there would be ample room. Sigh [sigh]

Rain is gone, now there is thick fog filling our little Salacoa valley. Today when the fox came through, I hopped in the 6x6 and followed it (for about 5 seconds) before it vanished down the creek bank. It has helped itself to a couple of our birds recently, so I need to double check the fences and then let out big male Pyrenees out in the evening to patrol the barnyard.

While in the pasture, I had a little fun putting the pedal down with our horses galloping along side. Haven't done that in a long time. Horses are beautiful animals to watch when in motion like that.

Well, Good Night All. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

The 22nd is just around the corner, but there's plenty of time to plan ahead. I'll dispatch some country ham for the picnic.  Any other contributions will be appreciated.

Anybody live near Columbia, SC I could use help off loading the truck lol. Flip,Fergie what are you 2 sneaking out for its too far for you 2 .

Oh well thought I would ask free pizza ( sorry don't drink but will have coke, pepsi, or what ever type soft drink you want. )

The party will be wild enough in here especially scince its Memorial day weekend.

On a serious note no computor for me as A.T.&T. doesn't offer internet service in that area other than $24.95 dial up I can get net zero for $10.00

May get that once I see how things settle out after I'm there.

Actually, in 2 weeks I;ll be down Charleston for a vacation if it involves trains. Doubt Mumsy would want to unpack

Paul ... Surgery???? I did not know. Sorry if I missed anything you said. God bless and prayers to you. I hope you can get back to the diner soon.

Rob .. Those are neat model vehicles you posted.

RT ... If you're about to be out of touch, perhaps we can have the picnic just before you leave. When will that be?

Evening gang!

Sorry I have not been in for a while, but I've been busy getting everything in order for my trip to the 'Sand Lot' in 19 days. Yes, I know. It does not seem like it's upon me already, but time does fly when you're busy. Speaking of the 'Sand Lot' daytime temps there have been averaging 120+ for the last month + with overnight lows around 90ish. Anyways, while I am gone, I'll be unable to access my personal email accounts, along wiht most train related sites. But hey, that's the military for you when you're in a war zone!

Well gang, I'm outta here. I just got depressed thinking of the trip again.

Take care!

Evening Gang: just dropped in for a bit of coffee and a chicken strip. I'm not really hungrey but it's the last chance before tomorrows surgrey.

Dick It sounds like you guys are getting into the drought thing. It is strange the way the storms just dryed out before they got to you. Down here we see alot of rain go buy us and fall farther east by about 20 miles. We are just west of the line for less rain.

Well I guess I'll head out and get ready for bed. If I can get myself up before 4:30 am I can have a cup of coffee. Woopee.

Afternoon, everyone.

Okay, 103 here in Carmichael, dry north winds.  Several small forest fires in the hills east of us, Welcome to California--"Shake and Bake", only it's the "Bake" part, and too darned early.   Winds are supposed to die down tomorrow, but the temperature's supposed to go UP until about Monday, then get back down to the high '80's.  Would you believe that foggy old San Francisco got up to 94, today?  That may not sound like a lot to some of you, but we're talking about a city that has a normal temperature of about 70.  I hope this May isn't a harbinger of Things To Come this summer.  I'd like to be in Oregon right now, but this heat wave extends clear up to British Columbia, so no-one on the West Coast is having a great time, right now.

But after what the rest of the country has been going through, I think I'll shut up about our weatherBlush [:I]

Got the turnout put in this morning, it was a snap, even if the Peco wasn't the same length as the Sinohara it replaced.  Just did some cutting and filing and--wham, the Peco slipped right in.  Dang, guys, I'm actually starting to get GOOD, LOL!  Ran a couple of my brass 2-10-2's through it without a hitch, and if THEY can handle it, anything can, by golly!  Hey, those Peco turnouts are really cool--they SNAP!  And this is right near the edge of the layout, so I think I can save on a manual connector (I can reach all of my turnouts, so I don't use Tortise motors, just those neat Caboose Hobbies ground-throw thingys)  Supposed to cool down a few degrees this evening, so I'm going out to put in a couple of small details--some road signs and wood road crossings in the yard.   Just ordered a pot-load of detail parts from Cal-Scale to jazz up some of my brass locos--bells, whistles, cab-deck extenders and a couple of big ash-pans--I think you can really say I'm RETIRED and ready to hit the MR full blast this summer.

Anyhow, it's been a fairly productive day on the MR, even DESPITE the heat--which out here in Carmichael is also combined with SUV exhaust--when are they going to outlaw those big, useless, easy-turn-over gas-guzzling suckers, anyway?--makes me think that the Yuba River Sub might just turn into something pretty good, now that I've got the time to devote to it.

Hey, retirement is FUN!  Why didn't I think of this earlier?Shock [:O]

Later,

Tom Tongue [:P]

Jeff--looks like you got the weather WE could use out here.  But at least you got the power back on in 3 hours.  Every time it goes out around here, it takes our Utility company about two or three days to find out what happened.  And yes--our little corner of the world in Carmichael is always the LAST to get our power back on.  Hope you didn't sustain any damage from that storm, though.  I remember getting caught in a Louisiana storm up around Monroe about 30 years ago--boy, was THAT one a Whopper!

Some places north of me got hit pretty hard. Lafayette and surrounding areas took a big punch too.

 Paul W. Beverung wrote:

Jeff sounds like you got what we missed here. That system really didn't get wound up untill it was east of us around Ft.Worth and Dallas.

Tell me about it. It made a mess here. Tree limbs down all over the place, roads flooded, lines down. The power here was out about three hours while the power in town was out in spots. Wal-Mart was without power for only twenty minutes but it took nearly two hours for them to get the computers back up.

 grayfox1119 wrote:

JEFF: Glad to hear that no serious damage was done in your area, it really looked bad on the radar.

It wasn't too bad here. North and east of here got it pretty bad though. The storms were getting really wound up coming across the Texas line. Thankfully there were no tornadoes here, just straight-line winds.

Good evening everyone........got a good start on planting the veggie garden today, I should get the rest done tomorrow. We didn't get much rain here today, the air is so dry that as the front approached it literally dried up.

GARRY: The rhubarb is up and ready for picking, and the strawberries are right behind. Shhhhhhhh , don't let DUKE know or he will be on his bike headed East in a flash. I think he broke the record the last time makin it here in 10 hours from MI.

FERGIE: Yes, the Jays beat the Sox up in Toronto, but that was weeks ago, the Jays came down here and the Sox beat them 3 straight, plucking a few feathers on the way. Is the news about a week late out there on the high seas ??? LOL BTW, is that Tsunami both sound AND motor control??

PAUL: What is going on with those new ants in Texas??? They are really raising havoc, they love electronic devices and other equipment also. They multiply by the billions. The only good thing so far is that they also love to attack and eat Fire Ants.

RT: That is really good news !!!!!! If I lived closer I would take you up on the suds and pizza offer to help move you guys into new home.

JEFF: Glad to hear that no serious damage was done in your area, it really looked bad on the radar.

Later guys,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Early Evening:

RT what great news. I thought I heard a huge cry of glee from your direction. I'd love to give you a hand but Texas isn't exactly next door. Besides I'll be restricted for a bit after the surgery. ( Good timing on my part. )

Not much going on here. Mary Ann and I are cleaning out the den so John can tear out the carpet and sub floor. It's getting the tile also.

One of these days All this will be a memory and I may beable to get back to some MRRing. I did get to the basement today to pack up my Hiawatha cars and the C&NW 400 set. They were getting all covered with saw dust and dirt from upstairs.

Well I have to geet back at it.

See you later.
