in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks!

***Scott, fancy new car there. But better yet is you get to haul coal drags.Thumbs Up [tup]

***Philip, enjoyed all the pics. That double bridge is pretty cool.

Sunny, beautiful day here with a high to hit 80 degrees. Going to spend part of the day sorting through the Inlaws boxes from storage. Wife left early to move some small stuff for them. What we don't keep, we'll give to Good Will.

Still find myself wanting one of those Athearn Bigboys.

That was Bridgeton, Indiana.  I have yet to make it over to Mansfield, Indiana.  The reunion was good.  It was really just my family, my mom and dad, and my brother flew in from Texas.  He hasn't been home in a long time though, so it was cool.

Hopefully no derailments anytime soon. I printed the decals out on my printer using my technique of printing on airmail paper.

"The family is doing well, thanks for asking.  The wife is slowly working her way back to normal.  She can't stay on her feet long enough to do dishes yet, but she does most everything else.  My son thinks he's invincable, so he's all over the place, but it's good for him.  He still gets worn out pretty easy, but other then that, he's off and running......literally! That's great news Philip

That pic I showed yesterday was actually Bridgeton, Indiana.  In Parke County Indiana there are 20 covered bridges, many of them still in daily use.  As a matter of fact, they say that there are more covered bridges there then in anyplace else in the world.  They call it the covered bridge capitol of the world.  Here's some more pics of the day out.  (And remember, they built RR covered bridges much the same way as these!)

Well, my apologies for anyone who missed my first post tonight - I used it as a starting point for my second post, and wound up replacing the first post with it. Sad [:(] Don't think I can remember all of that again. Too close to my bedtime - and that apple pie a la mode was good, too!

Hey folks-just a quick coffee before bed.

Typing this out on my other half's comp as mine started giving me fits Friday & finally died this morning. (it kept freezing up, reboot, go for awhile, freeze up, etc) & then the monitor wouldn't even boot up after awhile this morning. Took it over to a former co-worker who's a comp guru & does repair/diagnosis on the side. (I actually tried to "stop in" here the other nite, but just after  I typed things out & went to post, the comp froze, so I got disgusted & went to bed.) I hope it's fixable, as I have a ton of train reference stuff, not to mention the majority of my music collection. (all transferred over from CD-some 12000 songs) The thought of losing all 6-7 years work, music, & reference makes me a little sick right now. So anyways, he's going to check it out,& hopefully he can take care of things. In the meantime, I can work on my "weathering" a little more, & get on here when she isn't. (sleeping right now) She has a lot of the "train" bookmarks on here as I have, but I still feel like I'm driving someone else's car)

Jerry-one of the things I wanted to say the other night before things went galley west-no problem on getting the year wrong on those-I've been wrong before myself in when stuff was introduced on different cars. For example I just found out in the past year or 2 (after seeing one) that the 55-56 Chryslers (& maybe Imperials) had the gear selector on the dashboard-looked kinda like a stick shift IMO. Something I never knew up until then. My only experience with the push-button trans was some 20 years ago when a fellow I knew acquired a '63 Chrysler that wasn't in the best of shape. I didn't drive it, but he let me start it & work the buttons, & I was curious as to the "Park" feature on them since I didn't know up till that time-turns out it was a lever below the buttons.)

On the subject, I was over at Mom & Dad's today, & played with my Dodge Coronet, trying to get it to idle without stalling. I initally got it going on fast idle (you have to pump the crap out of the pedal-something my dad was hesitant to do but I drove the car for 20 years-I guess I still have the touch) But eventually it kicked down & refused to idle again. We're thinking either bad gas (4 yrs) or the carb needs good adjusting, & those aftermarket Carter 4 bbls are tempermental.) Either way, we're going to have it towed to my bud's garage & have him tinker with it-need to get it driveable as I want to take it to our downtown weekly car shows which start next month with FOR SALE signs on it-I don't have the time, $$$, or ambition to mess with it anymore. I need the $$$, but still the day it sells, I won't be too happy as I've owned it for 22 years, & went thru a lot of good & bad in that car. But I want it to go to a good home & find someone who wants to put into it what I can't anymore.

Anyways, better hit it-hopefully all are well & good here, & I'll try to stop in when I can! Gnite all!

Hello Scott !!!!!!!

Good to see you! Good luck juggling things. Enjoy the coal hauling.  the Chevy looks great, and I like it's color. Don't let Dave V see it becuase he may mistake it for tuscan red and try to put keystones and pinstripes on it!

Also,,,, hello JimCG........ You must have been busy lately.  I fugured the food urge would bring you back, and there you are.............eating pie!

Janie, another cup of coffee, please. Thanks!

Jeff, you keep eating that good, and you'll be ready for a pre-ORF nap...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Gav, hope you don't get that much paperwork very often. Not fun!

Paul, better be careful - Mary Ann might have a shopping trip of her own planned, now that she's wise to your order from Chuck's. For your sake, I hope you weren't saying what the total for the order was, when she walked in on you. Shock [:O]

JP, nice loco you got there! Bet that one wouldn't melt in the Sand Lot! The BBQ sounds like it was a good one. Thumbs Up [tup] Wonder what size Kadee that would take? Wink [;)] And on that not having things backed up: Black Eye [B)]Banged Head [banghead] Ouch! Hard way to learn the lesson.

Jeffrey, I wouldn't mind (non-poisonous) snakes around, but I think I wouldn't want them close to the house, myself. Thumbs Down [tdn]

Heartland Division CB&Q:

Where's Duke? Where's Ryan? Where's Ed? Where's Luc?

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]Yeah!! [yeah] Good question - where are they?

Scott, nice new wheels! Thumbs Up [tup] But, uh,... where's your longhorn 'bumper attachment'? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Congrats on the improved work (and pay)!

I've been gone this past weekend for (simplified way to call it) a men's retreat with church. Awesome, and great scenery (plus great weather). Smile [:)] I was surprised that by the time I got home, my car was showing the mileage at almost 19 mpg (Usually in town, I get around 16 mpg or so), even on the somewhat hilly and twisty roads to/from the retreat site. Heading back, I was able to keep around 55-60 mph most of the way, so I guess that helped. Of course, tonight's news was about the gas prices going up...Sigh [sigh] At least my tank is fairly full, so I should get another couple of hundred miles out of it. Maybe prices will slip by then. (Hey, a fella can hope, right?)

Time for this fella to head home for bed. See everyone tomorrow!

Blessings,

Hey y'all! Dropping in since I have time.

I've been awarded a job on the coal trains. So I'll be making trips up the road frequently and making big money if all goes well. I'm hoping that I can continue my everyday struggle-juggle of balancing work and keeping my girlfriend. It's one heck of a challenge, but I'm not about to give up.

And here's the new car! My 2008 Chevy HHR 2LT. Black leather interior, premium sound, sunroof, and best of all, 30+ MPG on the highway!

Y'all have a good one! Cowboy [C):-)]

Evening Gang: Not much since this morning. We just got the cows out of the field. The new calf was left behind by it's mother but as soon as we started to get it up and moving toward the gate it's mother showed all concerned. This is the same cow that left her calf in a field and we didn't notice it was gone. Dogs tore the calf up pretty bad but it survived.I don't want that to happen again.

I haven't heard from Ed since he E-mailed me that they couldn't come for the meet. Which remindes me. If anyone wants to see pictures of the Annetta Vally Western group go to AVW.org. I don't think that the latest meet pictures are posted yet but there are some great pictures there.

Time to change the patch and go to bed.

Good Night All

Evening gang!

I decided to go to MS's website and see if there were any updates that I had to do to the computer (I do so about once a month on average). Well, I was told that Service Pack 3 was available and I decided to download it and install. However, I forgot to do a backup (actually, I have never done one on this computer since I've had it) and the computer did not take to SP3, so I had to do a complete system restore (I had not done one of these save settings either) and just got done fixing most things. I lost all of my files that were on here too, including all train and MRR related items, excepot photos. Tomorrow after work, I'll have to reinstall the printer, and whatever else I find wrong, as well as doing more updates to this dang computer. I can now say "Lesson learned" and I will start using DVD+RW's to do backups.

Well all, night!

Hello everyone:

Paul: I'm glad the eye is improving.

John P's Amish loco needs couplers evidently, but does Kadee make any that would fit? Question [?]

Gav kindly asked PC how his family is doing. I'd also like to know PC. BTW, PC, I once went covered bridge touring and it's interesting. Not many out there however.

Rob is definately being the good guy taking care of his in-laws. Thumbs Up [tup] to Rob.

The church we attend is getting a new pastor. The prospective pastor got 100% of the member votes today, was offered the job, and accepted. Meanhwhile, our sick church friend begins chemotherapy this Tuesday.

Where's Duke? Where's Ryan? Where's Ed? Where's Luc?

Dick....how was the excursion? Any strawberry rhubbarb pie available?

If you're interested, I posted pictures of CB&Q 308 in WPF today and my ATSF FM Erie Builts yesterday. I know Flashware saw the FM's and his remarks in WPF are appreciated.

Happy Model Railroading!

in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks!

Have spent the day limping moving boxes out of the InLaws storage locker to our cabin. 3 trips in a mini van (light rain today nixed using the pickup). Now the knee of same leg is having minor pains. No biggie, a few days rest should heal all.

Wife & I had Chinese while out today and after discussing her folks situation, the topic turned to trains and her layout ideas. Now that was fun! Her surprise gift (that steam loco) is in transit and scheduled to arrive Tueday.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Morning Gang: After Mary Ann and I went to get breakfast we turned the cattle into the field below the barn. I noticed the the calfs were out of hay so got the tractor outI ended up putting out three bales, two for the cows. Anyway with only one eye I managed to get it done and back the tractor back into the barn with out hitting anything.

Rob Kind of a prediciment with the fox. I hate to see you loose the birds but I know that the fox is great to have around. We had one give birth down in the lumber pile behind the depot.

On the subject of couplers. I've been using Kadees since they first came out way back when. They were very different then. Today I have a bunch of Walthers cars with there couplers and so far have had no problems. If I ever do I'll replace with KDs. I am going to replace the dummy couplers on the ore cars with KDs as I can. With 180 some odd cars with dummys it may take a while.

I am going to lay down and work the ROF credits.

Well all, time to get some things done around the apartment.

Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Probably hit the top of the page with this one, but what the heck.....I like you guys (and gals), so I'll buy your lunch if I need to.

So yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day, so the wife and I went for a drive.  We decided to go check out some covered bridges and an old Grist Mill.  The bridges were awesome, and we got some great pics of a couple of them, and the Grist Mill was really cool.  The mill has been in operation since 1823, which in Indiana would have made this the wild, wild west back then.  It used to be water wheel powered with a small dam (still in place and being repaired) across a creek.    Since the 1950's the mill has ben powered by a 1905 trolly car electric motor (see, I worked in a train angle!), but the plan is to eventually get it back on water power.  As it is, it's one of the oldest working electric motors in continuous use in the U.S., and the mill is one of the last family owned and operated mills in the country.  I'll post some pics later if you all are interested, but for now, here's a teaser.  This is one of the bridges and the mill next to it.

Gotta run for now.  Gotta go teach a class, then head to a family reunion.

Later!

Good Morning!

It seems odd for me to be here in the daylight never mind the morning. Anyway I'll have scrambled eggs and some whole wheat toast with marmalade please Chloe. Oh, and don't forget the coffee.

Well Jeff, I've never seen a Coachwhip snake and I'm not disappointed. I don't like snakes and am glad that the only ones we have here are garter snakes that are small and harmless.  I bet you have a few down there that aren't harmless.

We did a lot of errands yesterday and that was about all you could do as it was cool, about 60 with a wind gusting to 40 mph. Not a pleasant day. It looks as though today will be better so hopefully we can get a start on the lawn repair.

Maybe I'll stop by later but in the meantime, have a good day everyone.
