Good evening, a hot one here today and very humid. TS's went north and south of us, all we received was 0.07" of rain, and now the weather is going to be sunny until Saturday, so we are still somewhat dry here in our town.
I want to thank all you guys for your kind words regarding my uncle, he was the last of many uncles that I had.
With the temp in the 80's today, it was time to get the pool filter going. I realized that I had never taken the filter apart and hosed off the elements, so after reading the manual, I had it cleaned and back together in an hour, and surprisingly it was not in bad shape at after 10 years, these Hayward DE Filters are really made well.
FERGIE: Tell Lisa that not everywhere on the East coast are people in wadders. We haven't had much rain here in central MA like up north in Maine, they had serious flooding in Fort Kent and Caribou a couple of weeks ago.
CN CHARLIE: I hope your pet makes it through the Summer, at least it will give you the chance to have one more Summer of friendship with your pet......it is very hard to say goodbye, my wife still doesn't want another cat or dog after we lost ours two years ago, it was too hard after 16 years.
RYAN: Give your son a congrats from us, where does he plan to seek employment?
DER JOHN: $5.15 for gas in your neck of the woods??? WOW !!! I hear that the Amish are selling buggies that they make, and at a fair price too. Of course the HP is up to you. I think a Morgan would be a nice choice.
BTW: If you guys want to know "why" the gas prices are through the roof, Speculators are buying futures left and right in the market, and now own more than 1.5 BILLION barrels of oil on the futures market. Guess what that does to the price of oil !!!!! And "why" can they do this? Because our leaders in Congress in their "infinite wisdom" have not closed a loop hole that allows these characters to run hog wild in the futures market with no controls.
J.R. : How are things coming with the house repairs, and word on how it started?
ROB: The Democrats have held up drilling on the north slope for years. They are concerned about the animals ( no one else lives near this location ). I have seen the Caribou with my own eyes when I was in AK back in 2001, crossing under the oil pipeline like it was just a fallen log. They feed and breed right next to drill rigs in PB and it doesn't bother them one bit. Here is the kicker....even if they gave the Ok TODAY, we would not see any oil from that site for 10 years!!!! That is how long it will take. Now what do you think we will have for motive power fuel in 10 years from now? N2, Electric, Water, CA,??
JEFF: It is sad to see that nice steamer sitting in the park, however, the age of Diesel is indeed here.
Later guys,
Evening Gang: Not much going on today. The visit to the doctor went well. I'll visit him again in 4 weeks. He said that if everything looks good I can have the other eye done shortly after that. Untill then I have another eye drop to add to the list to do every day. Actually it gets confusing. One drop is 3 times a day for 1 week then 2 times a day for another week and tehn 1 per day for a week. Another is 4 times a day untill the 3 bottles run out. The third is 4 times a day for 2 weeks. Anybody got a score card?
We got a little better then an inch of rain here this afternoon. Right now we are under a TS warning for the evening. The rain was good but I arrived back at home just as it was getting heavy. Of course I got soaked getting to the house.
Well I have to get back to work on cleaning.
Good Night All

yes, yes I would be a nice choice. But you aren't chaining me up to any buggy. (Name jokes, always funny)
Evening all, may I have some Fudgey Marble with chocolate syrup? gracy.
Well, dissasembled a trackmobile today. I'll drill light holes tomorrow. Got a tender smoothed and painted. Its gonna be the T-1's auxillary water tender/tool car in Freedom Train scheme. It started life as a Mohawk tender. At some point though, the engine was shaved. Still to come, decals!

Good Eveing Diners
Just got back from another trip to the garden centre and I doubt it will be the last. Mind you I can't really complain as my wife does a wonderful job on the yard to the point where we have often been asked why we don't enter it into the local landscaping competition.
Jeff, I second Johnboy's request for a couple of RV parking spots in your park. Have some sympathy for your northern neighbours freezing through fall, winter and spring! Why we would be happy to do guard duty on the K4 until it gets a fence. You did a great job and I think it is a very clever way to hide the access hatch.
JR, Sorry to hear about all your fire troubles but it sounds like the clean-up is well underway. These fire restoration companies can do a great job and in some cases make it better than it was.
It doesn't sound like Fergie is having much fun out there on the briny. Gales and ice- happy summer indeed.
Well the boat launch is now scheduled for Saturday. At least it is supposed to be warm. I'll be glad when it is done as I must admit I really don't like either launch or pull out. Maybe it's swinging 3 tons of boat on a couple of webbing straps and then having to get a 35 ft. aluminum pole vertical without it going over the side. It can be stressful. I think I'd rather install a decoder. Perhaps I'm getting old.
Time to get ready for tomorrow. What happened to today? I blinked and it's gone.

Tall glass of cool water, thanks!
Turned up the sensativity on the metal detector and spent a couple more hours looking for Tinytoons shoe. After finding a number of burried old rusty nails and one tin can, finally today found her lost shoe out in the barn paddock. Thank God....it is such a pain to make them. So, after cleaning it with a grinding wire wheel, this evening the wife helped me re-glue it to Toons hoof. (thinking of spray painting them neon pink )
Dog tired. Good night all. Rob

Leave her with some dignitiy man! Atleast do it in something flashy, like Daylight Orange or Armor Yellow! Toons wouldn't be a grayish color per chance?
Good evening all--
I was out in the garage a little earlier running a coal train behind one of my 3500 2-8-8-2's, when lo and behold, a car pulled up filled with some of my choral students. Talk about a pleasant surprise--five of them jumped out and came in the garage, grinning from ear to ear. They wanted to see "Doc's" train, and brought me a HUGE surprise! Seems they went out and had sweat-shirts ordered that say "DOC'S TRIBE" on the front, and on the back a listing of all 22 of the Chamber Singers from this year. PLUS--a memo scrap-book filled with best wishes from the entire choral program. I'm still in shock. Let me tell you that my eyes got really foggy and my throat really tight as these terrific kids presented me with this.
Funny thing. One of them asked me, "Hey, Doc, how FAST does it run?" and another just stared at him and said, "Dude, that's not the POINT!" So the five of us ran the train for about a half hour and drank some Cokes I had in the 'fridge while they oohed and aahed at my little miniature world. They just left, and I'm still pretty darned stunned about this whole thing. These were just-graduated Seniors, and they're headed off to places like UC Davis, CalPoly, Boston College, Loyola Mariemont and Yale. All I can think of right now is--are those colleges LUCKY!! Frankly, just as lucky as I've been to have been one of their instructors these past years. Right now, I'm thinking that even though I've retired, I can NEVER 'retire' from the memories.
Just wanted to share this with you. Oh, and would you believe that I didn't have a SINGLE derailment running the train for them? Somebody Up There was sure smiling down on all of us, tonight.

Hello everybody. I'll have a vanilla malt please. MMMMMMMMM ... good stuff!
Dick ... That's true about fuel prices. Traders are running up prices. They have the commodity reports on Bloomberg TV. (I watch it for news on stocks). I don't like hearing about "bullish" dasy on the commodity exchanges. They are international, fee market exchanges, and it's not something the government can easily regulate. India, did, however, outlaw food futures contracts within India. i'm not sure how that ended up. It's better too late than never for AK North Slope, Florida off-shore drilling, and oil shale development. Other countries do process oil shale for fuel, and we should do that. The long term failure of Congress was to build highwys over the decades while blocking production of domestic fuel. You can yell at the Congressmen along with the commodity traders.
Paul .... I'm glad your eye doctor appointments are going well.
CN Charlie ... Keep us informed about the boat launch. you asked if you were getting old. Nah.. that doesn't happen does it.
Rob: Pink shoes. Creative. Flashware has some thoughts, too.
Tom ..... I was reading a wondeful story about your students stopping by. That's terrific. It was believable until you said you had no derailemnts. TOM! ..... (kidding, Tom, just kidding) ... Great story. Really.
Happy MRR'ing!

No I wouldn't and it's obvious you had a major impact on their lives. They won't be retiring from the memories either.
Oh, and I'm picturing "Fast" and "The High trestle of Doom" with hilaroius, though followed by colorful, results.

Good Morning All,
I'll have a regular and some Cherrios please, and some fresh blueberries to put on top. Some progress on the house - we're now dealing with an army of adjustors, structural, contents, cause and effect, additional living expenses, and the uber adjustor along with the fire marshall and building inspector. The fire investigation seems to be coming down to either my sons' smoking or an electrical fault in his computer surge protector. It'll be tough if it points to my son but we'll have to live with that.
The electricity is turned back on save for the upper floor so we can start cleaning out the house. We haven't spoken to the contents adjustor yet, but it looks like the entire master bedroom and laundry room will be a write off along with the hallway and my sons room. The word on the upstairs bathroom isn't back yet but we hope to save at least the fixtures. One of the problems is the acrid smoke from the lifetime collection of plastic car models and slot car stuff that was stored in boxes in the attic all of which went up in flames. plastic smoke is really nasty stuff and the cocsensus is the smoke smell won't come out so the walls and ceilings will have to come out. That's about all I know for now with more adjustors yet to go.
Catch y'all later. J.R.
Morning all!
And a fine morning it is too! Central Indiana couldn't be prettier this morning! Check out the tower cam shot of downtown Indianapolis this morning.
Supposed to be a little cool today, only 68 degrees, but thats OK. NO RAIN for a change! Seems strange, but last year at this time we were a month into that nasty drought, and this year we're above normal rainfall. Weather is a goofy thing, huh?
Hey Rob,........how about luminous paint. Then you just have to wait for nightfall to find the shoes! (And no demeaning colors for tiny toons!)
Oh well, I'm outta here!
Later!
Morning All!!.....Its sunny and chilly here this morning temps in the upper 40's....I'll have coffee and a dougnut please..Thank You....I started to work on a 40 outside braced wood box car yesterday...Its lettered for Rio Grande but got that off saving all the other lettering planning to decal it for NKP a cheap, easy conversion......Also got a 1/25 scale 1957 dirt track stock car out of storage box that I built a couple of years ago so I can get a photo of it to post on Stock Car Model forum...We have a old style bull ring Saturday night track near here and I love to watch....I had a 1950 ford that some of my friends and I stripped and put a roll bar in that we ran in my Dads pasture feild...Great times...You all have a good one...Jerry
Mornin an irish coffee please Zoe, it be a tad chilly here
Cloudy skies will be around this morning before sunny skies move in this afternoon. Northeast winds will keep it feeling a little bit cool today with daytime highs still below average topping out in the upper 60's. Mostly clear skies stick around tonight with temperatures dropping back down into the mid 40's. Thursday and Friday see warmer temperatures in the upper 70's near 80° with gusty south winds and plenty of sunshine. Scattered rain and thunderstorms move in Friday evening and last through the day on Saturday.
How's bout a joke for the day
The golf course was haunted by a malicious, evil leprechaun who exploited the ambitions of the poorer players. He popped up beside one unfortunate man who was participating in a club competition. "Look," he said, "if you agree never to court a woman, flirt with a girl or marry, I'll help you win." "Done," shouted the young golfer. The leprechaun was very pleased with conniving ways, and chuckled merrily.

Good afternoon to all.....sunny here today and a cool dry 60F. Todays work calls for cutting the grass in the blueberry garden, planting the rest of the veggie garden, and then some MRR action.
I just signed my contract for heating oil ( the Northeast is the biggest user of #2 oil for running heating systems in homes and buildings ). The cost last year was $2.64 a gallon, this year.............$3.94 a gallon. Guess how much wood I will be burning this year guys!! Cut another cord honey while I cut another oak tree. And for you guys heating with Propane or Natural gas....wait until you see what your rates will be next season.
GARRY: Right ON !!! I only wish more Americans understood "where" the real problem lies, so many people are so ignorant of the real facts. I heard one guy at the local station giving the poor owner a ration of s*** because the prices went up again yesterday to $3.98 for 87 octane. Another example of dumb people who are clueless as to the real cause.
FLASHWAVE: Soooooo your name is "Morgan" ?????? LOL.....I was referring to Morgan horses which were first bred in New England as both a work horse and a riding horse. It would be perfect solution for getting around town on short trips. I never thought that water troughs and hitching posts would ever be back in use...now I'm not so sure. Three more people in our town have bought horses to add to those already here.
J.R.: I feel so badly for you J.R., at this point in your life, you certainly don't need this aggravation. Are all your cloths OK? Do you need any shirts, pants etc.? I have more than I need, I am 5'-9" 28 leg, 36" waist, and for shirts, medium 15 1/2" neck.
DUKE: How are things going for you, prayers for your mother, she is very happy now , but I know that you know that.
DER JOHN: Have things improved up on the Cabot Trail this week weatherwise? Get the rain barrels out !!!
FERGIE: Bergs to the left, bergs to the left.....full steam ahead !!!!
PAUL: How is the eye surgery progressing? Did you have laser work done?
So, the big push this summer is to have people stay near home and save gas. How many of you guys are planning to stay near home? I know we are. The furthest we are travelling is to the coast of Maine, 1 1/2 hour ride away, and to the local HS each month in Warren, 1/2 hour ride.
Later, time to get back outside, see you guys for happy hour at 5...
Afternoon folks!
Tom, Bryan sure did get a great education and he was accepted to attend LSU, he will be going to freshman orientation on June 9th and will start up full time in the fall.
Yup, Hawaii Garry! And we didn't want to come back either...
Duke, nice to see you in the diner and thoughts continue your way.
Dick, Bryan has been working at Semolina which is a local SE Louisiana pasta restaurant chain and still plans to work odd jobs while attending LSU in the fall. He is going to study Political Science and the wants to attend pre-law after that...
J.R. sounds like progress on the cause of the fire, but tedious at best!

Jerry! Excellent stocker! Perfect stance! I didn't know you were into model cars. I used to do lots of them, but I had to pick a hobby since I didn't have time for them all, and trains won. Here's a couple of my old cars I built.
An old vette........

***Flashwave, Toons is white. Guess I could paint her shoes Armor Yellow, as you suggest. That would be nice and visible when she loses it.
***JR, wishing you a reasonable outcome with all that mess. Bummer!
***Philip, what scale are those cars? Nice work!
Wife & I went to Kennesaw Trains (not exactly a LHS, but closer than any others) where she bought an HO kit of a man with plow horse. She will paint the horse to match our horse Pumpkin. I also dropped off both my Kato Mike & SD90/43 Mac to let him put all those tiny detail parts on. I don't think he was thrilled since I didn't buy them from him. Still, for $10 an hour, it's better than me fiddling with them.
Had to help the wife hang more pictures for her folks. Also put up two more shelves and an extra shower caddy thing that her Dad will be able to reach from his chair.
Need to go rest for a bit. Rob
Cederstrand wrote: ***Philip, what scale are those cars? Nice work!
Why thank you kind Sir! They're 1/24 scale.
The vette is box stock, meaning only parts in that kit were used on it. Here's the motor, where you get to witness such things as no engine wiring and such, because the kit didn't come with it.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Model%20Cars/Captured2006-5-2200021.jpg
The '57 chevy is a curbside, so there's no interior or engine, but the body has been "massaged".
The Willy's is semi-complete, but there's still much to be done. There are many customizations done on it, including full wiring and plumbing well underway.

Yeah, but white doesn't do the whole UP thing. it would work better if se were grey. Need to medtate on passenger schemes
Evening folks-just my usual!
Sorry I don't get in here regular-seems I go in "bursts"-regular for X amount of days, & then disappear. I'm around, & try to stop in when I can. Been trying to accomplish some stuff in the yard on the weekends, & do layout R & D, & try to work in my "weathering" when I can.
Dawn was ok the next day, & better the day after. She was mad about getting shorted hours at work, & fuel was added to her fire by a boss that was pushing her buttons also. (Her other boss & the employees went out of their way the next few days to make her feel better. (I made dinner for her Sunday evening when I got back home from watching trains up in Sterling Ohio)
Ryan-I was wondering where you were! Maybe I'll get there someday when I have the $$$ & the courage to finally get on a plane. There's a beach on the west coast of Kauai I saw once in a tourist book that I found absolutely beautiful. Also this little exchange popped into my head from the old "Benny Hill Show"-Benny & his wife were in Hawaii & were arguing on the correct pronunciation-was it "Hawaii", or Havaii"? They decided to ask a fellow walking past.
"Excuse me sir." Benny asked. "Is this place called Hawaii, or Havaii?"
"Havaii." the fellow answered.
"See?" Benny admonished his wife, & then turned back to the fellow. "Thank you."
"You're Velcome." the fellow answered. (remember that classic look on Benny's face?)
Phillip & Jerry-love those models!!!!!! I was into those when I was about 10-11 yrs old & then my model railroading interests took over. I got back into them in a few bursts in the late 80's & early 90's, & still have a few kits that need built or finished. 1 is of a '70 Super Bee (of course) that I want to modify to match my Coronet. IMO it would be perfect to keep it's memory alive once it gets sold. The 1 model that I put countless hours in about 20 years ago was a '57 Chevy to match the one in the movie "Return to Macon County"-3 gauges on the dash, Hurst shifter turned vertically, tuck & roll upholstery, dechromed, plug wires, brake lines, the whole 9 yards. I had it at my bud's house in the basement where we worked on & displayed them, but his Mom 1 day let his year old nephew down there, & he destroyed them-blah! (wish I'd at least got a pic of it!) Jerry, your '57 reminds me a lot of the one Darrell Waltrip had in his early days, & used for the inside cover of his autobiography. I love the '57 Fords-I got to watch one of the "retractable hardtops" in action 1 time at 1 of our car shows-truly an amazing process. (just don't try to build a model of one as I did with Revell's "Reissue series" of a '59- multi-piece body, a nightmare from the get-go!
Well, I better hit it-just checking in-nite all!
Morning folks!
Got down right cool here yesterday with rain all day too and into the low 50's this morning.
Mitch, funny you should mention the pronunciation of Hawaii because all the locals do sound the "w" as a "v" as in "Ha-vai-i", we wondered the same thing while we were there. Never been to the island you mentioned, just Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii.
Nice model cars there Jerry and PC!
Mornin' all!
Shaping up to be a real nice day here in Indiana!
Today should turn out to be a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and highs around 77 degrees and low humidity. Too bad I'll be stuck in the office until the day is over. Oh well!
Ryan, thanks, but I think Jerry's car is way cooler then any of mine. I've gotta get some tips from him!
How are you all doing today?
