Evening Gang:

JimCG I wish I could figure out how to retire from retirement. If you come up with a way let me know.

We took the girls to Dallas on the train today. Little Rachel is a real train nut just like her grandpa. She was going toot, toot every time the train did. If any of you get to Dallas try and get to the Dallas World Aquarium it is very good.

Well I'm bushed. I'll try and stop in tomorrow evening.

Good Night All

Afternoon, all:

Holy Cow, Railroadnut posts pictures of his sister's bunny and suddenly everyone wants RABBIT STEW?  Sorry, I don't like the taste of bunny.  Always reminds me of the time when I was a kid and dad decided we'd raise rabbits.  Yah, well--we got a male and a female--Miggs and Floppy-- and after the first litter, Dad was thinking of all those neat meals we'd have until my sister and I looked at him and said "We're going to EAT them?"  Dad, really neat guy that he was just blinked and said, "That's the purpose."  My sister broke down crying, I just stared at Dad with my big baby blues, he shrugged and said, "Oh Hell," and the neighborhood finally ended up with a whole bunch of pets.  We kept Miggs and Floppy, but in separate cages.  They were pretty cool rabbits.  My sister and I fed them out of our allowance, but that's back when Lettuce was 5 cents a head, LOL!

Anyway, the temperature here is a hot 103 again, but today the air quality was at least unbreathable--KCRA said 'Uncomfortable for those with respiratory problems', which is unfortunately ME.  Went out and started work today, but couldn't spend a lot of time there.  We're supposed to have a Delta breeze coming in around 6:00, so I'll see what I can get done.  Did a little staining on yesterday's granite, but had to come in early.  Said the heck with it and watched some LAW AND ORDER reruns on TV.  Hopefully I can go out in a couple of hours.

Garry:  I think Woodland Scenics has some mountain climbers, I'll check into it.  Actually, the Sierra Buttes has a Forest Service lookout tower on one of the peaks I haven't gotten to yet, so I'm thinking of putting one up there, which means I'll have to carve a horse-trail up one of the cliffs.  Maybe I'll do that instead.  I mean, we didn't have a lot of mountain-climbers back in 1947 around here, LOL!

Flash: How was the game you and your dad went to?

Ed:  The Hydrocal is okay--like I said before, I just didn't follow the directions.

Jeff:  "Hassenpfeffer" actually tastes better if you use chicken.  I think then it's called "Kuchleinpfeffer" or something like that, LOL!   But make sure you use fresh-ground pfeffer, the canned stuff is kind of yucky.  Really liked that last shot of the park, BTW.

Hello...

Hassesnpheffer or rabbit gumbo may be an improvement over cocoa puffs emerging from the south end of a nortbound rabbit.

I like the pix of the KCS "Sothern Bell" unit, Jeff.

Jerry......... nice layout shots. I can see why you might selct country ham considering the options offered today.

Tom is probably on his creeper. I'm still think he should have 1/87 mountan climbers on that "hill".

Happy Model Railroading

I have that book myself. It's some good reading and there's lots of good ideas in it. DCC decoders aren't hard to install unless you're doing a hard-wire conversion on a loco that wasn't DCC ready in the first place, then only the first one is hard. In the case of a loco that's DCC ready it's usually just a case of plugging the decoder in with the hardest part being getting the shell off. Connecting a DCC system to your layout is very easy. Just connect it where a DC power pack would have been connected.

Looks like I have of the page honors. Anybody up for some Hassenpheffer?

Good Morning, Zoe, Ed, and I see Jeff and Bill T. have been in earlier. I'll have some of Ed's famed OJ,

scrambled eggs with some grated cheese melted in, couple of slices of that near bacon,

and a cup of the TH, please. Dinner [dinner]

Thanks, Gav

Yeah, PC, that's the trade-off - when you work a lot, you get more LHS My 2 cents [2c]My 2 cents [2c], but you don't have the time while working to do anything on the layout; while if you are off work, you're not earning that LHS money! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Hope you get some time in on the layout stuff over the weekend. Thumbs Up [tup]

Paul, how does one retire from retirement, I wonder?Confused [%-)]Whistling [:-^]

Jeff. nice photo of that KCS diesel - hard to miss those with that crisp color scheme!  What've you got in store for today?

One more day until Friday (and maybe payday, not sure if the deposit'll show up Friday or Sat. a.m. in my bank account). Smile [:)]

Last night, I ordered some more Arizona Rocks & Minerals stuff from Caboose Hobbies, so now I get to wait until later today and see how much of it will be in stock, and what somebody else got and beat me to the punch. Not a lot more going yet on my layout until this weekend. I've been looking at Preiser's catalog lately, and trying to figure what other figures I want to get for the layout. Need to find a place with a good discount on those, with the rate of exchange between the $ and the DM, though...

I'll be at the corner booth, getting to my breakfast now.

Blessings and fair weather today for you,

But could someone answer me a question?  How does Hydrocal go BAD?  The directions say to let it set for 5 minutes.  So how come 20 minutes later it STILL looks like Cream of Potato soup?  Sheesh!

It's either old and/or was exposeded to some humidity during storage.  Like all plasters and portland cements, exposure to humidity will cause the individual grains to hydrate.  There's not enough moisture for them to combine (so you don't get a hard lump of plaster) but they've already undergone their chemical change.  At least that's what I think.

btw, mountains look good.

Forgive mme for being the nay sayer, but what's up with the streaky puddy look in the center of the pic? There's a couple of seams I notice to where the mold isn't yet flush, right around the tunnel. await color

*ducks*

Flash--

The 'streaky-puddy' look in the center represents a pure intrusion of granite upthrust.  Coloring will improve it.  It's pretty common up here in the California Sierra, having layered and jumbled granite suddenly interrupted by big, solid intrusions of the stuff.  The mold around the tunnel needs some work--as I said, this portion isn't done by a LONG shot, LOL!  The gray is a base color, I still have to add darker hues, some 'rust' (lots of iron oxide in these here Buttes) and lighter 'highlighting' to some of the layers.  That's why I said that this is a MAJOR project.

Huh. Learnd somen new bout rocks. ANd while your at it, your advising me on scenery. SO, thanks.

Hello everyone,

I bet the strawberry rhubbarb pie is totolly gone now. Glad I had some a couple of days ago.

Terry ... Keep up your spirits. Radiation must be no fun. Prayers continue for your full recovery from the disease.

Tom ... the montains are looking great!. Sound like the creeper is getting a lot of work. Is it due for it's 3,000 mile servicing yet? The mountains might need some climbers with all their gear ascending one of the steep cliffs. Do they have 1/87 muntain climbers available? Maybe they have one with goggles like the avatar Ryan was using until his Hawaii trip.

It was good to see Darth Santa Fe in the diner. The bachmann Shay sounds like quite a locomotive. Maybe we'll see more of that E6A soon, too.

I did some non-model railroad stuff today. The garagage got its 2007 spring cleaning. So what if I'm a year late with that.

One of our two five-foot black snakes was out today keeping those mice away. The snakes are named Charles and Camilla.

The thread on GN 2-6-6-2's reminds me. I've been tempted to aquire one of the Mantua 2-6-6-2's and make it look like one of the rare CB&Q mallets. Some of Burlington's 2-6-6-2's were used in the Black Hills on the CB&Q's Deadwood branch.  That's one of those "round tuit" ideas for my layout. Msot of my model railroad time this year has been for ading to layout itself so far this year. I've not added much locos and cars.

Happy Model Railroading

So I've been like insanely busy at work (with all the storms......I work at the phone company), and school is kicking my butt, and I'm trying to graduate sometime in THIS millenium, that I've had like no time for anything lately!  I made up for it today though.  I went to the LHS and bought like everything in sight that fit my layout.  They like me a lot there now!  (Now I just have to find time to build everything and get it on the layout!)
