Evening, Janie, I'll have some strawberries and ice cream, and a cup of coffee, please. Yum!

First of all, I am still high and dry in Cape G., and we only got a little dab of rain (Sat. a.m., early). I asked the father of a friend who lives south of Cape about rain in their area, and they're doing okay (he said they have more to be concerned about from their river/creek backing up because of the Muddy Miss. River being so full). I think the crest for the river at Cape was revised downward, partly due to the levee breaks in northern Missouri.

Hey, DerJohn, I sometimes respond to trivia even if I don't have the time! Wink [;)]

Tom, I'm guessing the lighter area on your buttes is where you did the Scupltamold, correct? You've been coming along nicely on the buttes, I'd say. I think your 'Coons have baked their brains a bit too much, from what you're telling us about them. Wow!! [wow] Do they drink more water when it's hotter lately?

CN Charlie, hope you get your sailboat sold at a good price - you'll be selling it at a good time, with summer closing in. Sounds like you managed to get some LHS time in on your business trip, so that was a bonus, I'm sure. Thumbs Up [tup]

Uh, oh! Somebody forgot to tell RRNut's sister (sweety20001) that we were just kidding. (No pun intended) Everybody duck! Oops [oops]

Heartland Division CB&Q:

I hope our kidding around about rabbits did not hurt little sister's feelings. Sorry if we did. Next time, somebody will post their pet parrot and we'll ruffle their feathers.

Garry, you are tooooo 'punny', my friend! Laugh [(-D]

JP, maybe if you poured that ice cream over you, it would help cool you off. Tongue [:P] Couple of gallons oughta do the trick! Glad you got to post from the sandbox, even if it's stinko blazing hot over there. Bow [bow] You and BridgeTom could almost swap tales of 'How hot is it?' (sounds like a Leno or Letterman routine...)Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Now if you could get one of those pools like Jeff's parents have, you'd be set (once you filled it)!

Chuck, sorry to hear about Kathy being in the hospital, but hopefully they will get things straightened out and have her feeling even better. Of course, when she gets home, she may get onto your case more often, but what the heck, that's what a wife's for, isn't it? Wink [;)] Once you get those pics scanned into your 'puter, put me on your list. I hope to add a small logging sawmill later to my layout (when I get that house to go over the expanded train space, that is). Take care of yourself in the meantime until Kathy's back. Will be keeping her in our Angel [angel]Angel [angel]

RT, good to hear from you (and that they've been giving you some extra LHS money (I mean, overtime...). How are you and the CFO doing with settling in and adjusting to the new place so far? Got the boxes (half?) unpacked yet? That's usually the true sign that you're officially 'moved in'. Great to hear that you're getting some of those benefits now (that you earned, IMHO). Thumbs Up [tup]

Jeff, good to hear you now can go soak and cool off in your folks' pool. That is one 'Giant' pool, all right. Cool [8D]

This afternoon, I got my hand saw out, and cut one plywood piece down to 3' square (more or less; the lumber yard guy wasn't real accurate in cutting it to 3' wide, but close enough...), and marked tentative lines for the mainline tracks coming off of the existing layout sections. But I'll have to clear out more space in the living room so I will be able to build the benchwork under the additional section(s). Time for one of these again...:

Oh, I did also pick up another Atlas PS2 covered hopper on Saturday at the LHS. This one's a MOPac one. It has too late of a rebuild date on it for my layout, so I'll need to 'adjust' that...Wink [;)] It's similar to the WP one I bought from (off an Amazon.com store, I think) a bit back. I didn't find the painter's masking tape I was looking for, so the Roberts Printing kitbash is still stalled for now. Sigh [sigh] Maybe I can go through my boxes and find that tape this week so I can get back to it next weekend. I also ordered some sale items from the Walthers website. Couldn't check what I'd ordered yet, because they haven't verified my account yet (1st order through the website).

PC, that is great to hear how terrific your son's doing! Sounds like your wife is doing well, too. Watch out, or those two will be running circles around you! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] The new laptop looks good - did work pay for some of that, or was that out of your own pocket My 2 cents [2c])?Whistling [:-^]

Alex, I'd have your neighbor banned from the premises, after all that damage. Has he offered to pay for any needed repairs? Seems like the least he could do.

Need to wind things down and get myself ready for bedtime. See you all in the a.m. Zzz [zzz]

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

PC:

Deer Isle is quite a ways up the coast.  It's north of Yarmouth.
...Ah! Yarmouth, "City of Palms"!Wink [;)] Hope your new PC does a better job of allowing use of the smilie feature on here. Mine's decided that I've got the pop up blocker on, when I've gone and disabled it to get to the smilies. Now I'm just working from memoryBanged Head [banghead]

Glad to report one Kato RDC is up and running.  However, there is something very wrong with the lighting. It shows red in the forward direction, and clear in reverse! It doesn't matter if CV 29 is set at 38 or 39, there is no change in this orientation of the lights. Argh...I hope Digitrax support can sort this. Also got an Atlas GP7 redecodered, but it's very noisy, so shall have to take it apart again and see if there is anything mis-aligned.

Must get to bed, Goodnight all, and God Bless.  Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.Angel [angel]

Awwww now.....whats up with this folks?  I walk in here and you all are letting the diner slip to page two?

So check this out!

I just bought a new computer!  I picked up a Gateway P-6860FX (click the link to check it out) and am now enjoying surfing in style!  I can't seem to get it to go wireless though..  The contol panel is also acting weird.  Think I'm going to have to take it back tomorrow and have it looked at.  Pretty cool toy though!

Better check that map again.  Deer Isle is quite a ways up the coast.  It's north of Yarmouth.

Afternoon Gang:

Chuck I'm sorry to hear that Kathy is having problems. Tell her that I'm thinking about her and hope that she gets better soon.

RT good to see you back. I'm happy to hear that you are doing well. Enjoy the real house.

Not much here. The kids and grandkids went to Dallas today and left Mary Ann and I here alone. I need to get going on staining the new cuboard that Mary Ann got. I should have gotten it finished but wanted a good match for the other cabnets. I'll see about getting in tonight.

See You All later.

Sunday lunch please Zoe. The roast chicken, new potatoes, sweet potato, parsnips, snap peas, broccoli, sage and onion stuffing and gravy, thanks.Dinner [dinner]

Not wishing to offend the sensibilities of anyone's young sister; I have however to confess my first thought on reading that post.  Being in diesel rather than steam, I still had the impression that "Hasenfeffer" has a distinctly steam loco sound to it!

Chuck: Prayers for Kathy, please pass our healing thoughts and best wishes to her. Angel [angel]  Tall Times sure found an interesting site. What a neat place for a youth camp! Anything left of it today, one wonders.

Had an e-mail from him on Friday.  It was a humourous reply to something I had sent him, and didn't mention the flood situation at all. From this I gathered that he was in good spirits, and had time to respond to trivia!Thumbs Up [tup]

She's as awesome as ever.  She's getting all around quite well.  Matter of fact, we were just commenting the other day how she was glad that she didn't have to go up and down the stairs on her butt any more like she did a few months ago.  She also commented that she didn't think it as nearly as funny as I did when he tried that with silk PJ's on.  (Picture the sledding scene in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation)

Morning all!

Der, I have many relatives in Maine.  I know firsthand that north is the only place to get REAL seafood.  I spent my summers on Deer Isle, ME when I was growing up.  My Grandfather had a lobster boat and if the tide went out we'd go clamming.  Nothing like hauling them lobsters out of the water and having them cooking in 20 minutes!  Sweet and tender!

RT, you wouldn't believe that boy of mine.  The kid is everywhere!  And he walks just like any other kid.  We never hear that question any more......."Why do you walk like that?"  That used to be several times a day from other kids.  I even bought him a bike for his birthday several weeks ago.  He rides that thing all over the place.  Matter of fact, the only way you'd ever know that he wasn't born like any other kid is the huge scars on the backs of his legs from the surgery.  It's OK though.  He thinks they're "cool"!

I had 2 trains on the mainline. A 4-6-0 hauled passenger train, and a 2-8-2 hauled freight. So he was running them and crashed them head on. He put the 4-6-0 on the other end and ran it and the 2-8-2 into the rear. He took all the cars off and pushed them off to the side and ran the 4-6-0 and 2-8-2 at full speed around the layout, then stopped the 2-8-2 and plowed the 4-6-0 into it. I also have a 4-6-2 but its wheels are out of quarter and I told him it wouldn't work. He put it on the track anyways and it wouldn't move so he took his hand and pushed it. Thank God he didn't push it along anymore than he did or I'm sure the side rod would have snapped, since it was now bent at a horrible angle. He got the 2-6-0 and put it on the front of a train of "flammables" (beer boxcar, coal dust car, Bordeaux wine car, drinking water tank car, and a propane tank car). He ran this around then stopped the 2-6-0 and the other locos plowed the other cars off. Then he ran the 2-8-2 at full speed into the yard, plowing a train of gondolas all over the place. After this he took off a few passenger cars from the tracks within the return loop. The Marklin couplers work very well, thus the rest of the cars came off with it. At this point his mom came to pick him up. The parents showed the mom around the house an we went back up stairs. He attempted to put together a train before his mom took him home. He might want to come play tomorrow, which is why- YOSHI PLEASE SAVE ME! I'm trying to invite myself to a friends house to escape the town of Hiroshima...

Ooh. Hate to say it, but give me the horrid details. My neighbor came over when I had the layout up, and my dad wanted to show off the new Acela. It was only starting and stopping; or something was wrong, so Mrs. Charla turned to leave, along with everyone except dad. The next thing we heard was a CRASH!!! We turned around and saw: Yeah. You get it.

Sweety20001: Don't worry. I haven't eaten rabbit since I was a little kid and that was more years ago than I care to remember, sometime in the sixties.

I've been down at my parents place working on the pool all day. We installed the liner in forty-five minutes then had the fire dept bring the water in. Thirty trips in all, one thousand gallons a trip. Now we know how much that big hole in the ground holds. That's to be expected I guess, it's a Jolly Green Giant, constructed back in the mid sixties. I always thought it was twenty-five thousand gallons. Looks like I was off by five thousand.

Good evening...

Chuck, I'm truly sorry to learn about Kathy's serious condition, and she is definately on the prayers list.  It's good you have model railroading. Many of my hours working on the alyout are "sanity breaks" to get a way from others tuff, and it really helps.

JP ... It's good you can enter the diner from the sand box. We pray that you and your fellow troops will be looked after.

RT ........ I have been wondering about you, but praise the Lord if all is finally squared away with the job and the news house.

HI ALL;

I know been a long time, but S**T happens...... Bad news first KATHY in St. Vincents Hosp. in Portland. Heart congestion and a collasped lung.

N ext I'm here at home untill she comes out of all the heavy narcs. Drs. say that she will recover but it will take time.

Now since I'm stuck here at home I've got time to work on the RR. About 6 years ago Tall Times found an old logging camp and wrote about it in three issues, giving pictures and detail drawings of all the buildings that they found at that time in was being used as a youth camp by youth groups in eastern oregon and was given to a religious group that use it in the summer some of the logging buildings still had tracks and wheels still under them. Houses for the living quateres aloung with two cars put together side by side for a eating place also a building for the use of "facilities" including showers, and a saw filers workshop all the emenities of home life.I started to scratchbuild 6 cars by using the detail drawings provided in the mag using the old FORD way one piece multiplied 8 times so that if I "mess" up I can blame it on you no who!!!!eight sets of runners 8 sets of everthing takes a lot of bass and balsa for this fun. I'm still trying to learn how to transfeer pictures to the comp from camera to disk and then to yu'all. Someday this ole POLOCK will learn not only this but how to spell!!!!!

Fair Winds and Following Seas to all Chuck.

Afternoon from SunnyCal, all.  Seems we're in the "Bake" sequence of "Shake n' Bake".  All up and down the state.  It was around 116 in Southern Cal yesterday, we had about 103 up here in the North State.  Today, San Francisco is supposed to hit 95 (normal temperature for SF this time of year is about 60), and we're supposed to top out around 105.  Guess what, according to my pool thermometer, we're already THERE, and it's over two hours to top temperature around here--the heat usually peaks about 4:00 in the afternoon!   I guess the East Coast is getting hit with the same thing.  Big buildup of thunder-clouds over the Sierra, so that probably means thundershowers today.  Hope it's not the 'dry' kind, though.  Oddly enough, the air quality isn't that bad here--yet--which is unusual for these kinds of temperatures.  Spent some time in the garage this morning painting the rockwork I put in yesterday.  It's coming along.

I hear that the situation in the Midwest is improving little by little.  Boy, weatherwise, this is a summer to go down in the books, all right!   It's kind of funny--the hotter it gets around here, the more my big furry Maine Coons Spooky and Lowell look for sun-spots to lay in.  Talk about WEIRD!

Well, here's another shot of progress on the Buttes--put on a coat of paint today.  I'm using H2O latex spray cans to get the base coats on, then going back in with dry-brush and Bragdon chalks for the tinting.  Haven't hit the left hand side of the picture with the Bragdon yet, but I'll do that this evening when the temperature cools off to about 98, LOL!

Maybe some day I'll actually get to RUN a train, LOL!

Have a great day all, best to you and prayers for those in need.

Tom

Good day all from the 'Sandbox!'

Jus thought I'd make my presence known since it has been what, 17 days since my last post! Big Smile [:D]

Anyways, just wanted to stop in, say hi, and ask the ladies for a nice big hot fudge sundae. I know, it will melt asap (it was 121 here at 4pm our time yesterday), but it will be a nice cool refreshing treat from this heat.

Take care all!

I hope our kidding around about rabbits did not hurt little sister's feelings. Sorry if we did. Next time, somebody will post their pet parrot and we'll ruffle their feathers.

Jerry ... nice work on the box car.

Went to farmers market. I hope the home grown tomatoes are safe. Should be.

Glad the to see Canadians are back in the diner, eh.

If it's a water temperature thing, we have fog, like Newf, therefore cold water, so maybe that's it. Sadly, the season ended yesterday, so that's it for around here until April 19 next year.Sad [:(]  All that to say, PC, as Fergie so rightly points out, Yes! there are Maine Lobster, but if you want the BEST, you have to travel north.

The $7 is store price of course, and our local from the wharf price was $5. That compensates some-what for the price being live weight. I hate to think what the dry protien weight would be!

Sorry to learn of the fires and floods. Hope that things get back to normal and "well adusted" for everyone soon.Angel [angel]

I'm putting Digitrax decoders in two Kato RDCs. Didn't realize that the motor wasn't isolated from the frame too well, nor the decoder, come to that. So, Kapton tape to the rescue!

We soldier on....

Good moring diners.

OJ and oatmeal, please.

CN Charlie............. That DVD on Canadian steam sounds like an interesting one. Also, it sounds like you are parting with a family member almost regarding the boat. Actually, I can relate to that. We sold our boat and we are on the lake. Both Shelley (she is a real CFO) and I  retired fianancial people and we simply could not justify owning one at all. The state park here has a new marina with boats to rent, and that meets our needs for the rare occassions when we use a boat. Of course, we're not talking about sail boats as you mentioned.

Rob .... Will the new house look completely differnt?

Fergie ........ I do remember that NS lobster from when we were there. We still would like to go back there again some day.  ...Gardening, Fergie....allocate time for mrr'ing too I hope. Did the crane and the pwer shovel projects come out OK?

Tom is making big progess on his scenery. Wow.

I have dozens of minor projects for the model railroad waiting for my attention.

in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thank you.

***CN Charlie, sounds like selling your boat is a reasonable decision. One of my passions was white water rafting. Great times & memories from a previous chapter in my life. Only wish I had sold my Miwok & equipment years ago before dryrot set in. Hope you get a really good price for what you sell.

***Tom, your progress continues to impress. Keep the photos coming. Thumbs Up [tup]
