I'll let this one speak for itself...I'll bet everyone here is going to jump right in and bid on this one!

So are you trying to say that a one penny opening bid is asking too much? Shouldn't you be working on your layout instead of combing eBay trying to find auctions similar to the one you posted so you can ridicule the seller? I'm amazed at how many times these auctions are featured on this forum.....what business is it of yours if he's trying to sell that burned up hulk of a car? If the owner wants to sell it, that's his business. If he finds a buyer for it, all the better....but why concern yourself with his business??? Rant off for now....

So, is it any business of yours if someone's hobby within a hobby is making fun of eBay sellers and the "treasures" they offer?

I don't come to this forum to have to wade through useless postings of eBay threads. I come here to learn about the hobby and find new tricks or techniques to use in the construction of my layout. Unfortunately, that is getting harder to do lately....
TrainManTy wrote:Actually, if I had an Ebay accout (and didn't have to pay for shipping!) then I'd buy it! It would actually make a nice detail as a victom of a nasty wreck!
You probably wouldn't see a metal car burned up like that......

The.....um......er......air conditioning unit spontaneously exploded!
I don't usually bid with a member that has zero transactions, and those pics look like 2 different cars. I'll have to ask the seller which one I will get.

So...since the Title: "Yet another wonderful auction site find..." was not a clue to you that THIS thread was not of interest to you, and you chose to read it anyway, the rest of us, who find this kind of thread somewhat interesting, (for whatever reason), have to wade through your whiney reply that has nothing to do with the topic or subject of the thread??? Is that any more or less fair to someone else?
It is clearly obvious from the title, and your comments, that this thread would be of no interest to you. So, Why click on the link to this thread and read it?, and then take the time for 2 replies? If you're not interested, simply skip the thread.
Every member here has just as much right to post what they see fit, as you have to click, or not click, on a link to view that information. Personally, I don't care who posts what.
If I need information, I search for it in the archives, and if I don't find it, I post a thread asking for help. If I see a post that I think I can offer help to, I reply. If I see something interesting, I read it. I do not feel the need to reply to every post I read, but sometimes I chose to.
BTW, posting a complaint about another post in the original thread does nothing to alieviate the problem you seem to have with Kalmback Publishing's choices to allow everyone an equal voice. Try contacting a moderator or Kalmbach directly with your concerns. You'll probably get better results.
Frankly, guys, I'm going to bid on it. Actually, I'm hoping that I can find several other cars in the same condition, because I'm thinking seriously of duplicating the really HILARIOUS train wreck that appeared in that classic sci-fi stinker of a movie called THE SWARM. Now if I can just find a bunch of HO scale killer Honeybees that cause the wreck in the first place, I'll video the whole thing.
But don't worry, I'll post it on YouTube so as not to interfere with the tenor of this forum, which seems lately to have deteriorated into finding new ways to slam each other into the ground.

There is actually one place where you could see a car burned like that...the Brayton Fire Training School at Texas A&M University. They took delivery of an old Amtrak RS-3 and 3 or 4 old passenger cars. I believe they currently have them set up in a "ravine" for rescue and/or fire training.
I still wouldn't give that penny for it, though.
Then you really don't understand the core purpose(s) of the General Discussion forum here.
1. Complaining about what Kalmbach prints in Model Railroader.
2. Whining about hobby prices.
3. Weekly rants about how the hobby is dying.
4. Weekly rants about how RTR is ruining the hobby (which is dying as we speak).
5. Semi-monthly dirges about how craftsmanship has disappeared from the hobby.
6. Pointing and laughing at eBay sellers and their foibles.
7. Drowning in 50's nostalgia (i.e. the "Golden Age" when men were men and crude zamac castings were state of the art).

The remains of this penguin are now for sale on eBay. Starting bid is 1 cent.

Announcer: You probably noticed that I didn't say, "And now for something completely different," just now. This is simply because, I am unable to appear in the show this week. Sorry to interrupt.
I personally enjoy the eBay threads, but that is just me :)
I have never understood why people read threads that they know don't interest them, and understand even less why they take the time to post in them. It seems very odd to me.
I did a quick unscientific survey of the first 5 pages of threads in this particular forum of the board, roughly 100 threads, and only 3 were about eBay. Even if I missed a one or two, that's only 4 or 5% of the most recent threads. And if we extrapolate that out, one eBay thread per page, and there's 1,659 pages in this forum, with a total thread count of 41,466, we end up with only 4% of threads here.
Hardly an unavoidable topic of discussion, especially since most of the eBay threads have descriptive titles.

You make a valid point, His voice DOES count, as much as anyone elses. I had no intention of implying that it does not, and if it was taken differently, I apologize.
I want to keep this short, as it is nice to see that humor has returned to this thread, and will hopefully spread throughout the forum.
I understand the point your making about accepting criticisism<sp?>, and I agree, sort of. If the post in question had criticized the SUBJECT of the OP, and not the post itself, I would agree completely. But the post in question critisized the POSTING of the thread, not it's content. That is why I suggested contacting a moderator or Kalmbach directly.
