Good evening to all,  been real busy with the two bathrooms project, I am now in the final phase thank God......painting is all done, staining all done, poly all done, one toilet installed, one to go, and one mirror to hang back up as well as baseboards and it will be tout fini.

We awoke to another 2" of snow this morning, but most of it melted by noontime, nothing compared to what you guys lived through last night in Georgia!!! I'll take the snow anytime...lightening, high winds, tornados...no thank you.

I see we have another rash of people being killed on the RR tracks. I just can't understand the type that are accidents......the ones that are suicide are at least intentional bad choices, but a train coming at 30 mph, sounding the horns, and the workers don't get off the tracks in time??? What is wrong with this picture??

FERGIE: If you think that last storm was bad, wait until you get the one that is headed up the coast tomorrow off the mid Atlantic, this will be a rip snorter Shock [:O] headed for Newfoundland about Monday afternoon.

SUE: 5.5 Earthquake 100 miles off your coastline a few hours ago, any Tsunamis?? Question [?]The "eggshell" is cracking again, I wonder where the next quake will hit. Usually only within a few days along the rim of fire.

ED: Out of OJ !!! Sad [:(] When are the Valencia due?  Dice-K's wife had her baby, a boy, rumor has it they will name him Special K....... lol. Wink [;)]

A point of warning to all you guys who have BRASS equipment. With the price of metals going through the roof, there has been an increase in home theft of gold jewelry ( Gold is over $1000 an ounce  Shock [:O] and will probably hot $1250 by the end of 2008 ) and any metals ( like brass ) that are of high value. Some people have had the copper plumbing ripped out of their homes. So if you have not taken videos or photos of your equipment for insurance or possible reclaim purposes, better do so soon.

Time to hit the sack, have a blessed Sunday guys,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Tall cool glass of water tonight, thanks!

Wife said one of the tornado fatalities up here in north GA. was a Vet, along with her dozen or so rescued dogs. Her house was leveled. What a sad loss. Hope they didn't suffer.

Got impatient and took the door (train table in waiting) over to the cabin and gave it a primer coat. That's the only progress to report on the train front here.

Everyone ....... well I'm still working on scenery. It's time consuming work.

The MSTS stuff didn't show up on the CD. Too bad I guess. I'll wait for MSTS2/MSTSX in fall. Right now KRS is good for me.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.   Cool [8D]  But it got up near 95º (35ºC) by mid afternoon.  That's just a touch on the warm side for me.

We made things worse by going out to play golf, and teeing off right at noon.  Yeah, that's tempting heat stroke all right.  I chunked it around the course, and will blame my poor score on the heat.  What's that old Noel Coward line about "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noonday sun..."

The coffee is good and strong tonight, as always.  Goes well with Fran's strawberry ice cream pie.

No progress, au usual, on the layout.  But I did get a bit more reading done in an old book on the NdeM that I picked up at a used book store in Mexico City a couple of weeks ago.

That's about it from down here this evening.  Catch up with you tomorrow.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

You weren't paying attention, son.  I posted photos of Paul's railroad, including his steam engine, back on page 37.  Use this link, it's about in the middle of the page.  3 photos.

 Right Garry

That would be either a GNER class 91 with dvt ( driving van trailer ) if overhead electric or an hst 125 if diesel. AS an afterthought GNER has lost that franchise.

Hello everybody...

Rob .... the GA storms have been in the news. Glad you are safe.

Gav ... the London - York train I mentioned last night was dark blue with a red or orange stripe of about 18" below the windows if I remember correctly. It was a double ended train with locomotive at each end.

I'm still working on scenery.

Happy Model railroading.

Rob we heard about the tornado in Atlanta. I heard the there were no deaths there.

I went over to the track today and helped with replacing ties on the main line. I don't know how many ties we replacd but we only got to the first town. I guess that's about 300 ft down the line. I spent the time hauling ties with my diesel locomotive. It's actually gas but looks like a SW 9 when the body is on. The last part of the line in Grissley Flats was burried under a bunch of ballast. Just the tops of the rail showing. I raked and loaded 2 cons of ballast that didn't need to be there.

Daisy the Dog wants to go out so I'd better get going.

I may be wrong but I think 'fixed DC' refers to a power supply that puts out power at a preset voltage, not unlike a computer power supply that puts out fixed voltages of 12v and 5v. A booster for a DCC system can be regarded as a 'fixed' power supply.

***Sue, my wife has wanted that Flight Sim for a long time, but it continues to take a backseat to other stuff. How does it work for Larry?

Strong storms here today. Last one dropped pea+ sized hail on us, sending most of the horses sprinting out of the barns & shelters. (must have been LOUD under those tin roofs) Some wicked cool lightning, also. In the middle of one storm, it suddenly got deathly quiet for about 30 seconds, then opened up again with a roar. Cool! And now a rainbow has appeared as I type.

Question: What is "Fixed DC" used for?

Been watching all those train shows on the History channel. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Afternoon all,

Jeff, nice video, looks like a busy spot for train watching.  Matter of fact it looks like you designed a convergence right there.  Are those 2 side by side ovals passing near each other?

In the area where the crossovers are the tracks are about four inches apart, railhead to railhead. At the closest they're an inch and a quarter apart, railhead to railhead. The 50 and 60 foot cars get real close to each other there but nothing has hit yet. The two tracks of the outside line are one and seven-eighths of an inch apart, railhead tp railhead.

Diesel is $4.19/ gallon up here today.  Need to buy a big tricycle with a basket and a small trailer.  OH and I want a bell and a quad tone air horn like Conrail had.

Went to the Lakeland collage train show (NMRA Div. 5) this morning, only a 30 minute wait to get through the doors.  The gymnasium was closed due to a water leak so they moved everything into various class rooms.  Nice flexibility to the last minute changes.  Seems the only casualty to the show was the loss of some operating layout space.  I think if they do this again I would recommend sorting the vendor rooms by scale to limit how many shoppers try to stuff themselves into one classroom.

Rob, glad to hear the brunt of the storms passed you by.

Bill, nice pictures.

I'll be taking my car to the local repair shop Monday morning. I was planning on just having the master cylinder rebuilt. When my father learned of this he said "Heck no you're not getting it rebuilt. Have them replace it altogether. If you get it rebuilt, you'll never be able to trust it.". I told him "Yeah, right! How am I supposed to be able to pay for a new one. I don't have bunches of money". What he said next absolutely surprised me. He'll pay for the parts and labor. All I have to do is cut his grass one or two times every couple of weeks until I get him paid back, $20 a cut. I didn't argue. Until the car is repaired I'm using his truck to get around.

Hey, siren went off twice with this latest storm. A tornado was in my county and did severe damage with some fatalities, but it was far south of here. Barbara is heading in for work, right into the storm.

Heard the distant tornado siren go off right before Mother Nature opened up on our valley (which completely drowns it out). Chance of penny sized hail & 70mph wind. I'll believe it when I see it. Still, quite an enjoyable system moving through right now. BRING IT ON! YeeHaw! Cowboy [C):-)] Rob
