There are shareware and trialware programs available (pay a visit to tucows.com) to use for manipulating your pictures. Another key point is to crop the unnecessary stuff (all that sky and grass) from your pictures.

On Railroad Tycoon 2 Platinum they actually had real paint schemes on most of the engines, but for the 0-8-0 lettered "Chattanooga".

you mean the small trains that don't move nor give people headaches? I'll send you a few UP ones. I don't think they have a big boy but I know they have Challengers. BTW do you have Railroad Tycoon 3? I was thinking you'd write in to the design team about the yellow big boy and the Challenger letter and numbered to Big Boy specs.

i'm glad my sig is small enough, so nobody would really say anything.

also if you don't want to view them there is something in your profile, something asking if you want to be able to see peoples sigs. just check that or uncheck it so you don't have to.

Dave, thanks for reinforcing my point on this, I liked that image, but didn't realize that it was you that had found it for him. I'm not sure if you noticed yet, but we've made considerable progress with our other young friend Dougal, check this out. http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11952

4884bigboy,
It's obvious that you are 13 yrs old because you're HARD HEADED. You keep changing your
pic, but you don't get the idea. The Pictures Are TOO Big !!!
I set you up with a sig sized pic and you went nuts. Go back to the one you had and everyone
will shut up about it. Thanks Dave

That's a good point about Netequette Karl, I haven't heard that term, but I like it. These are some of our youngest participants, in the forum that we're working with here, and I am pleased to say that progress is being made!!!! Keep watching.[:)]

[soapbox]Please resize your photos, to make them more user friendly. I have a broadband connection and I can see the difference in speed. Those members who are not as fortunate to have that access speed will start to get upset very soon.

Keep in mind that every time you change your signature, it goes back to every post you have ever made, and for some prople that is a lot.

If you want to share pictures that's fine, just not large files on your signature, PLEASE!!!

I wholeheartedly agree. As a point of Netequette, photos, logos etc on sig lines should only be about the size of a postage stamp.
If you feel you HAVE to show larger pictures, develop a web page and post "Hey Guys, look at this" posts.

This whole signature war is getting out of control, and is spilling over into the functioning of the forum, that's the point where it crossed the line.

The truth is, I really liked the old one of the Bigboy, from last week, and think that you should go back to it, and stay with it. It was properly sized and distinctive, which is just what you want in a signature, after all you aren't

I changed back to a 4-8-8-4, same size as dougal's. If it's still to big let me know.

how about this...those of you on a slow internet connection. Go to the top of your window in IE (Internet Explorer) and click on the part that says "Tools". Then scroll down till you hit "Internet Options..."; click on that. A new window should pop up. Click on the Tab titled "Advanced". Now you should be viewing a list of items with boxes on the left hand side with either checks or just blank boxes. Scroll down till you find a section called "Mulitimedia". Now all you have to do is uncheck "show pictures". Problem solved, since most of you that would be complaining about the *gif files that are on this site are really quite small. Your internet connection is so slow that it would be worth your while to take of pictures all the time. This will speed up your internet connection tremendously. If you ever wi***o see pictures you can always recheck it, but for the time being on a site that is mainly words, that pictures are addative this is optimum for you.

I think it would be better to do away with these huge photos inserted in the signature area. They take up too much space, it takes forever to load, and makes the messages look more disorganized.

Use small images, if any at all.

This one does seem better, but I have a fast connection, and will have to wait to hear from some people who have dial up, because its really their interest that I am looking out for. By the way, more people are checking in on this topic and are starting to agree, that size does matter.[:P]

By the way, I am not trying to be the forum police, or God, I just think that this is important to a lot of members, even if they haven't spoken up.

Let me see if I can shed a little light on how to resize your photos.

If you have a camera and take your own pictuers, when transfering them to your computer, it may ask you about the image quality, the higher the quality, the larger the file. However, I believe, that if you choose to lose quality at this stage, it can never be recovered, and I don't like to do that.

I have an old copy of Corel Photo House that I use to resize, and work with photos and other images. I'm sure that there are a lot of others and they probably work differently from this, but I'll try to explain the concept. There should be a way to transform an image's dimensions. Raw photos are HUGE files, and have HUGE dimensions.

The first cut is to reduce the dimensions of photos intended for posting. The photos that I upload to my web page file storage are usually 400 x 600 pixils and have been reduced down from over 2000 x 1500, which is a big step. Then I use the save as file command, and jpeg compression kicks in, and asks about quality again, and that's where I choose medium. I haven't altered the original, but now I have a version of the photo around 100k bytes or less, ready to upload.

I am allowed limited storage space on line, and I want to make it last, but at the rate I'm going it will take quite a while to fill, because I'm careful.

If you are just grabbing pretty pictuers that you find on the net, it isn't wise to put them in your signature, because you don't know how big they are, and this is where the trouble starts.

Its nice to learn by experimenting, but this one has resulted in creating a monster. It might be best if you took a step back, and learned to control it, before turning it loose on the forum. Others like Dave9999 have nice small images, and they are a lot of fun, so it can be done nicely, the secret is doing it.

If you don't know how to re-size your photo, then get rid of it.

Simple solution to an annoying problem.

I think you are using photos that are on the internet, maybe on someone else his website, you can't resize them, that is why I took out my UP police badge, takes too much forum space and looked silly being so big.
But, as you now know how to put pictures in your autograph, using the same commands you can put pictures in your post.

sure So did I, but it just was too big, I thougt it funny to rattle some old bones, but I am a bit modest, such a big sign just isn't me,
maybe look for a much smaller one somewhere, But they might gonna charge me for using UP copyrighted stuff, specilally when it is nicked from their own website !

The photo's are too big. It's Ok if they are in a "Photo Topic" I can avoid them, but when you post freely using it, it makes a performance difference. Just make them smaller.
