 Hi, I,m from Regina, Saskatchewan. I found this post very interesting and wanted to add my name.

I model CN in the Qu'appelle valley. My 8 year old grandson likes it. We needed continuous running . That is hard to do in Sask. as there aren't any tunnels, the tracks disappear into a cut in the hillside or behind a building.

This scene is going to end and the next one is going to be a winter scene as Sask is connected to winter (11 months of winter, 1 of poor sledding). Besides someone gave us a toboggan with a couple of kids on it  and Jonah keeps asking why are they tobogganing on green grass in the Qu'appelle valley!!

The pictures and posts have been great and I look forward to more.

Thanks, Mike.  No certificates nor even an NMRA membership.  I just enjoy model railroading a lot and I like sharing my efforts here and over at The Gauge , which is where those links lead.

you bet if you are ever travelling threw the Interior to Kelowna or Kamloops let me know and I would love to have you stop by,we have a nice club here and are very active, I could take you on  very nice Layout tour here in town,we have several large and awesome layouts for all to see,plus will cap off with our 22' X 80' "G" scale layout we have built in our local Library which depicts the Kettle Valley from Spences Bridge all the way down to Princeton,we have reproduced all the original buildings,section houses,Water towers, Stations ,Bridges Etc, this took us 3 years and is 30 feet in the air but it runs like clock work everyday for the Library patrons and has been running problem free for 2 years.

We also attend all the shows like Chilliwack, Burnaby,Peachland most likely have seen you at one over the years.

Invitation is open to all..

Sometimes the best Sanata is yourself :), Glad to hear of your new Purchase, I also picked up a new Atlas MP15DC as well nice CP with the working Cab Strobe it is very smooth and a sweet yard switcher, looking at the SOO one now.

As far as decoders most all of them will work, I have installed Digitrax, NCE, MRC and all seem to work just fine, my prefrence is NCE I like the back EMF on those decoders,makes the slow speeds much smoother plus it talks back to my handle so I know whats going on.

Sounds like you have a nice size layout,you must post some pictures eventually.

Checked out the pictures and am impressed with the quality of the river as well as that portion of the layout I could see. Would like to see more pics of your layout, in particular any town scenes.

Thanks for the kind words, Don.  Here's a link to a post that is made-up of links to a lot of my other photo threads.  Most contain several photos, while some have a lot more.  A few of the links also have a short-cut link included, which will take you to a Gallery of the photos-only that appear in that particular thread.  The Gallery photos are thumbnails that enlarge when clicked on, and most will enlarge even further with a click on the first enlargement - I included the shortcuts for those on dial-up or for those who want pictures with no chit-chat.  Several of the threads are illustrated stories, where the words are an integral part, and others have photos interspersed throughout the thread.

I'm in Stouffville, Ontario. I have mostly Canadian road locos. I like to model Northern scenery. I'm not too good at it but I'm getting better. I started my layout 2-1/2" years ago. Now have DCC  30+ locos (not all DCC yet) and 100+ rolling stock. I love the hobby. Keeps me busy and out of trouble. LOL.Glad to see so many Canadians here.

Don't you hate it when that happens. Originally I was just modelling traction then all of a sudden when I wasn't looking a legion of Maroon and Grey Alco's and some of their Green and Yellow cousins showed up, now they out number the streetcars nearly 10 to one

I model a fictiseous Div. of the Western Pacific. It is called "Last Mountain & Eastern" as if you didn't know that already from my avatar.  13'X17" around the walls with a peninsula off of one end about 2/3rds of the way down the center to a four loop helix going down to Staging yards on one side and Classification yards on the other side. A few industries on the lower level as well.

Well one more Canuck here. Since getting back into the hobby four years ago Christmas presents for this fifty year old kid have gone from socks and underwear back to trains. I actually found myself counting sleeps till Christmas this year. The results were one Atlas trainmaster gold series and nine pieces of rolling stock. I have a great wife, kids and sister. What can I say except how many sleeps till my birthday.

Hi & Welcome Mike,

I recognized your blue colored text and your handle CPrail. You answered one of my posts on 12-21 re: Changing from DC to DCC. Your advice must have worked because I purchased a Super Chief for Xmas. Us bachelors have to play Santa.

Now, being a newcomer to the seemingly wonderful world of DCC, I have to figure out what decoders I need for my locos. I recently purchased an Atlas MP15DC and it's DC ready with the NMRA 8 pin plug. I guess all I need for that one is the plug in decoder. I also have an MRC F7A&B that's DCC ready also. Then all my others are within the 10 yr. old range. So, I'll be busy for awhile.

I'm modeling the Burlington Norther in 1985 in the Powder River Basin. Coal, forest products, fuels etc. are the main commodities along with a power plant. The layout is 20x30 and I'm almost half way thru with the scenery, the track is laid, I have DC cab control (blocks) presently. The DCC will make life consideralbly easier once I get the hang of it. I'm going to leave all my blocks in and use them for power districts. I have been so advised by several of the group to do so. Makes sense. The group has been tremendous offering me help. This is a great bunch of guys Mike, so let's hear from you more often. You have alot to offer us too.

Hey ALL

Thanks for the welcome and nice to see all my fellow Canucks popping up,When I say My 7th and most likely final I mean I have finally after all these years  have taken my time to lay perfect track (I hope) all New switches (40+) all cork sanded and level,proper Wireing for future upgrades as well as all new benchwork and fully lighted buildings as well as street & Industrial lights, All vehicles are correct scale and realistic looking (no Toyish stuff), all metal wheels on Rolling stock (still in progess here) as well as full weathering on rolling stock and engines (also still in progress) and illuminated track signal lights.

Also the all the trestles in the Myra Canyon (Kettle Valley) have all been rebuilt as of Dec 20th of this year and they are open to the public again.

If I waited until I had 500 Loco;s and 3000 + peices of rolling stock to post You would never see me here, I am a firm beleiver to run all my rolling stock on my layout, storing hundreds on Shelf's is no fun for me, I have paired my rolling stock down to just over 200 and they are all on my layout, I have 40 engines half are on my layout the rest in my home office display case.

I model "HO" and have a small "N" scale layout (30" x 50") that I take to shows and lives in my home office, I model Diesel's only no steam as I was never old enough to see any steam when I was younger so model what I remember seeing as I grew up.

I was born in Montreal, and raised in Thornhill, Ontario.  After sojourns in Winnipeg, Ottawa, London (UK), Birmingham (UK), and Toronto, I have now bought a house in... Thornhill, Ontario.

I have just started work on my basement empire - the Kingston Subdivision between Spadina and Pickering (lower level) and between Kingston and Brockville (upper level).  The first step is building the workshop, then I have to build the guest room and the crew lounge, and then I can start work on the layout, hopefully within two years.

Oh, and I manufacture model trains for a living!

So count me in as another Canuck on the forum.
