Sounds good Mike, I will drop you a line when I get a chance.I was involved with Doug S. in the start-up of the Merritt club, when the meetings/layout building were being held in the shop of CMS (that is the layout that is now in the museum). And CMS is only a few blocks from where I live.Of course that was BC (before children). AC (after children) things changed a bit, no more curling, Citizens Patrol or model railway club. But now that the kids are getting older, I can get back into some of these things again.I am just staring the process of re-doing the layout in a different room as the current space is needed for my home office for my forestry consulting business. I hope to have the new benchwork up in the next month or so. It will be smaller, and a L shaped switching layout but that is life.

Let me put it this way.
If that happened, I would become homeless due to the amount I'd spend on those.
I'd also like to get together a prototypical Kettle Valley Express, that kind of train just looks amazing on my layout!
I'm currently working with Rivarossi heavyweights and a dead IHC Canadian with no Park car =(

Rapido Your layout is possibly the most gorgeous model railroad I have ever seen, despite the dearth of VIA trains.... Regardless of the era difference (I model 1980ish), the "feel" of your layout is exactly what I am looking for in my own. I like the attention to detail and focus on industry, community and the right of way. I suggest you set up a web site where you can easily keep all of your layout photos. It is sure to be popular. What's conspicuously absent from your layout is a matched set of Rapido cars in black, green and yellow!

Thank you for the kind words, Jason. VIA, and even the CNR in black and green is just too modern for my layout, although a very good friend of mine has several of your cars in black and green. I've done quite a few of the older Rivarossi smooth-sided cars in black and green for him, including some kitbashed cars and a few older aluminum model coaches. Those beautiful Rapido cars have pretty much ended that little money-maker. I'll ask him to send me some photos of them on my layout, as he often comes here to run trains or even just to photograph them. I'll post a couple when I get them. I do have a handful of CNR cars myself, and will probably build a few more once I get the CNR interchange built on the second level of the layout. Here are some pictures:
The first two cars are modified Athearn Pullmans, the horse/express car is a former Rivarossi coach, and the last car is a modified MDC Pullman Palace car.
A web site sounds like a lot more work, and as for storing pictures, there are over 2,000 of them at the site to which the links lead. I only recently managed to part with the last of my '70s-era stuff (well, I have one passenger train left to get rid of), and I'm trying to work up the courage to start getting rid of my '50s-era equipment. Since almost everything has been modified, customised, or reworked, it's almost like selling my soul.
TA462Wayne, I agree with Jason. Those Rapido cars would look great........LOL. Seriously though your layout looks incredible. I must have spent over an hour looking at those pictures and I like the stories you've added to some of them. Do you ever give tours or have an open house? Your attention to detail is something I'm working towards and your pictures give me great inspiration to reach that level.
Thank you, Dave, for taking the time to view some of the links. I wanted to have my layout on a local layout tour last year, but head management put the kibosh on that one, and it seems that she's not too keen on having visitors that I haven't met in person, which precludes most of the people that I'd like to have visit. I can offer a digital tour, of sorts, though.

Thanks. I didn't model the TH&B operation other than as a track in staging. It's meant as an interchange for both mixed freight and passenger traffic, but the main focus is for a tri-weekly coal train that will eventually run to a powerplant on the second level of the layout. The TH&B had a transloading facility at Port Maitland, so it gives me a chance to run coal trains ("live" loads on multiple 2.5% grades, with doubleheading on 100 ounce trains).
If you haven't been back to Hamilton for a while, you may be in for a rude awakening: they've started to dismantle the efficient system of one-way streets, and have found numerous ways to continue to shoot themselves in the foot. There are a few bright spots (but not at the Delta ) but I find it a very disappointing place to visit, compared to it's former glory.

I'm intending* on adding a car float and float dock to my layout, the space is there for it, even have the lead track in place, but a long way from getting the water front work done. Might breakdown and actually by that new booklette on waterfronts advertised by MRR. ( *Intending is a step or three before actual planning because planning implies plans and so far I only have notions (half baked ideas) of how to build the ferry or the dock).
BTW my hometown is Hamilton too, grew up near the foot of Woodward Ave in the shadows of the steel plants - and a healthy bicycle ride to the Beach Strip where I have fond memories - have to model that someday, but in the mean time I have plans for an amusement park by the water on my layout. (Plans because I already have three models in boxes for that part).
Have plans to come to Hamilton in May to see the Canadian National Model Show at Mac, take in some of the TH&B workshops. I graduated from Mac so bit of a homecoming for me too. I sincerely hope to see MRR at the show, doing a feature or two about Canadian layouts. (hint hint nudge nudge)

Psst Wayne... I think that was a hint! I just got my fourth CN (green livery Hudson's Bay) yesterday, a 10-5 sleeper and will be ordering a baggage car next week. They will look great behind my CN 4-6-4 or 2 CN C-Liners. Unfortunately I have to put in a 2nd main to handle the extra traffic...

Yup that you can do. I just get grumpy about having to register to upload pictures to the bucket for free. Hey if it's free why do I have to register?
I'm going to get off my rear end eventually and get my ISP to activate the personal webspace I have available to me so I can ftp pics to my own space and link to them that way. I doubt my ISP wants me to do that, but I had it going before we moved and they never complained about me linking to pics on my webspace.

If you have digital pictures, you can put them in photobucket for free, then easily post them here.

All my pictures are slides. I took some pictures with my wife's digital. The flash kept going off and it really made the backdrop stand out from the scenery and looks pretty crappy, especially compared to other pictures on here. I thought it looked pretty good in person but not in the pictures.
I am not modelling a specific spot in the valley, just the look of the valley.

Slides eh. I have a scanner that will scan slides if you ever need some digitized. I would like nothing more than to visit your layout. That would be great! Yes the look of the valley. I have always thought fall would be the season to model in the valley but a winter scene can be breathtaking too. I sent you a PM earlier. If you are serious about letting me visit your layout someday, let me know and I'll PM you with my contact information. Like I say, it would be great to see what you are doing.

Hey there Barry. I grew up in Regina but moved to a rural setting in 1992 and haven't looked back since. I started out in Wolseley then spent 10+ years living in Fort Qu'Appelle. Growing up I spent my summers and just about every weekend on the shores of Echo Lake in the Qu'Appelle Valley. What part of the beautiful valley are you modeling? Sure would like to see some pictures of your layout.
I am now in Avonlea and we, (my son & I) are about to start his first layout. Nice to see yet another Saskatchewanite lurking!
