Hi All
Just a hello, my name is Mike and I have been lurking here for quite sometime and wanted to say hello to everyone, A quick History, I have had a model train since I was around 5 years old, and will be 50 this year, Iam on my 7th and most likley final layout,it is in a 10' x 20, shop, It has 2 Mainlines, CP & CN and can handle 15-20 car trains on both lines, I run Modern day engines with EOT units and also switch to early 60's to late 70's with Caboose's it's nice to change it up once in awhile. I am just finishing off a new 10' x 2' foot yard attached to my main layout which has several industries as well as a nice Pike Stuff 2 bay shop for my 4 switchers to live when they are not working the yard,The yard holds about 110 cars with room for about 20 more with out plugging it up,I have a computer for the yard actvity with my switch lists, receiving and departing from the yard as well as Bad car report and maintanence of engines and roling stock, all trains start and end in my yard,I have a laptop for the Main line section, which has about 55-60 peices of rolling stock as well as 7 Mainline engines and 2 switchers for both the CP and CN shops and Various Spurs and industries, this laptop runs the same Switch list progam as my yard,so it can get busy between the both areas, but I love it, I usually burn a few hours a day out there with operations and Scenery... But some one has to do it.....
Again Hi
Mike G
What general area do you model?
Do you have any photos of your layout?
Hey TrainManTy
Thanks for the welcome,The area I model is loosely based on the Kettle Valley Line as well as the CN Yard In Kamloops BC,so to a degree I am freelance with a degree of reality, yes I have some photo's and am working on a web site and hope to have it up soon,I will pull some photo's over when I have it done....
Oh by the way my Railroad is called "Southern Interior & Cascades"
Mike
If it were the Southern Interior Cascades & Kootenay, would the reporting marks be SICK?

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of the layout. That Kettle Valley area sure is scenic! Lots of great trestles in there, although we lost a few in the fires a few years back I guess.
Nice to see yet another Canadian on the forum.
Kevin
HI, Mike. It is great to read of another Canuck here. Welcome!

Guys, here's another Canuck in the Durham Region just east of Toronto

And another. Welcome.

I think most of the Canadian regulars have posted in here by now, though!
The KVR is certainly an impressive stretch to model, and I have to say...

I don't think you're counting me
Of course that is assuming the guy can count...
Welcome, and please send us some snow or rain. Thanks.

Howyadoin' eh? Cold 'nuf fer ya?
Another cold Cannuk who drops into this forum now and then, mostly lurkin' like you, but I've posted a few times.
I model the TH&B (Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo aka To Hades and Back) some facticious port on the great lakes (have not decided if my port is on Lake Ont. or Erie yet). I live in northern Alberta (where it trully is cold 'nuf for me!).
You don't say what scale you work in. Mine is N, but I do dabble in On3 (for under the Christmas Tree) and have a bunch of G in boxes waiting for the day I get a round two it.
You write: "will be 50 this year, Iam on my 7th and most likley final layout" - 50 is not time to be on your final layout - I'm a wee bit older than that and while my current layout has years to go, I am imagineering another one already.
It sounds like you are really into the electronic controls, not my cup of tea but I can appreciate the outcome. I'd rather put my hobby time into the art of scenery and structures - my goal is for the trains to run reliably.
Congradulations on breaking out of the Lurking mode and hope to hear more from fellow countryman.

Ca-knuckleheads everywhere, like termites comin' out of softwood lumber. My layout is freelanced, but I have an interchange with the TH&B in staging, giving me access to their carfloat operation that ran between Port Maitland and Ashtabula, Ohio. I also model part of Port Maitland, but my version is totally freelanced, except for the name. Here's a view of part of it, with a little bit of Lake Erie to the left.
The TH&B served three ports: Port Maitland and Port Colborne on Lake Erie, and my home-town of Hamilton, on Lake Ontario.

HEY! I resemble that comment!
Sure nice to see all of you other canucks tipping your hats here.
Good lard in heaven byes! Six, no seven...err six East Coasters...throw in a bottle or two of rum and we'll have ourselves one heck of a party!
And 3 Albertans in this thread so far?
Nice to see all the Canadians suddenly poking their head out of the woodwork! I only really knew about regulars with a few thousand posts under their belt like myself

*Ahem* That assumes I have something useful to add to a conversation
Im north of Toronto, in Alcona near Barrie Ont.
Model On30 now and "F" scale. F is one of the many g scales. How many Canadians is that now? Never enough

Doh! I also forgot Luct Sorry
I was born in Montreal, and raised in Thornhill, Ontario. After sojourns in Winnipeg, Ottawa, London (UK), Birmingham (UK), and Toronto, I have now bought a house in... Thornhill, Ontario.
I have just started work on my basement empire - the Kingston Subdivision between Spadina and Pickering (lower level) and between Kingston and Brockville (upper level). The first step is building the workshop, then I have to build the guest room and the crew lounge, and then I can start work on the layout, hopefully within two years.
Oh, and I manufacture model trains for a living!
So count me in as another Canuck on the forum.

Hey ALL
Thanks for the welcome and nice to see all my fellow Canucks popping up,When I say My 7th and most likely final I mean I have finally after all these years have taken my time to lay perfect track (I hope) all New switches (40+) all cork sanded and level, proper Wireing for future upgrades as well as all new benchwork and fully lighted buildings as well as street & Industrial lights, All vehicles are correct scale and realistic looking (no Toyish stuff), all metal wheels on Rolling stock (still in progess here) as well as full weathering on rolling stock and engines (also still in progress) and illuminated track signal lights.
Also the all the trestles in the Myra Canyon (Kettle Valley) have all been rebuilt as of Dec 20th of this year and they are open to the public again.
If I waited until I had 500 Loco;s and 3000 + peices of rolling stock to post You would never see me here, I am a firm beleiver to run all my rolling stock on my layout, storing hundreds on Shelf's is no fun for me, I have paired my rolling stock down to just over 200 and they are all on my layout, I have 40 engines half are on my layout the rest in my home office display case.
I model "HO" and have a small "N" scale layout (30" x 50") that I take to shows and lives in my home office, I model Diesel's only no steam as I was never old enough to see any steam when I was younger so model what I remember seeing as I grew up.
Hope you all had a great Holiday season..
