Oh wow. It;s up to 34 now. Let's have a party. */Sarcasm*
Welcome, hsppy friday. Anyone still trip(dephin)pin' on the turkey drug? I'l be at the Lego Star Wars if I'm needed. Train stuff this weekend.
Oh, picked up a copy of the 101 layout thingy at LHS last Wed. Cool stuff. Found some more ideas for the SW winding way. Still scratching about for the Monon idears though.

Afternoon, Zoe, just a go cup, please. Okay, a cheeseburger to go also - no, not as big as those huge dagwood ones, I'm not quite that hungry! Thank you, ma'am.
Sounds like Thanksgiving was pretty good for most - now, if we could get word on Jeffrey, it'd be all good. Good to hear from you two again, Chuck & Kathy! LHS trip, huh? Have you given 'the good looking one' your Christmas list already? Hope it's a productive trip for both of you.
Jerry, the chicken was pretty good. I even have one of the three I fixed left to fix today or tomorrow. If I'd had some mozzarella cheese, it would have been even better, but this was a 'throwtogether' recipe, based on what I found I had in the fridge and cupboard. (After I found I didn't have the cream of mushroom soup I *thought* I had) Well, add that to the shopping list for next grocery run... Maybe you'll get some test track time for your BL2 over the weekend.
Discovered our apartment building's front door is not exactly working. It wouldn't open - I finally got a hefty screwdriver and got the thing open, and found part of the problem is that the handles don't turn the latch mechanism. It also had the plate on the door kind of bent at the corner, but my hammer fixed that. I then called the landlord and left him a message, but he might be out of town, just got the machine. Luckily, we have a back entrance also that still works. I left the door not quite latched, but close to closed. Dick, I'd have put in a suggestion for the landlord go to Home Depot (and keep you in that reserved parking spot up front), but we don't have one in town. Go figure! You want me to get you the number for our Chamber of Commerce so you can s'plain it to them?
This morning, I took an inventory of all my structure kits that I have yet to assemble. About 35-36 kits, plus a number of DPM and Walthers modules for various building ideas! Y'know, I think I need to be holding off on new structure purchases for now - don't even have room enough in a spare-room-sized layout for all of those! Guess my eyes got too big for my assembling speed...
Well, I'd best get going - heading for the LHS to see if they have the books I'd asked them about in yet (and use my coupon for this month) But no structure kits, no siree, none, nada, zip...
I'll check back in later to see about any news on Jeffrey and all. Prayers continuing.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

P.S. Thank You'll
Greetings folks. I hope everyone had a good turkey day. For those of you from the rest of the world, I hope you had a swell Thursday. I was at the in-laws for Thanksgiving. My father in-law had mentioned a while back that he had an American Flyer train set from his childhood. I asked him if he would show it to me the other day. He has all of the cars and scenery in their original boxes. It was so cool, I was like a kid opening a present on Christmas. He said that it doesn't run anymore. I volunteered to help him. Not that I know much about toy trains. I figured if he took me up on it, I'd find a way to learn how to fix it. Nobody else could figure out why we were so excited to look at old toys. The look on my father in-laws face when he opened the box was heart warming. You could tell that it brought back a lot of memories. He's one of the few in my family that really appreciates the modeling that I've done.
On a modeling note: I have recently commandeered a light blue, king size bed sheet from the linen closet. I hope to use this to cover that ugly fabric on the train room walls. In the future, I plan to try and paint my own backdrop. This new fabric will help me be patient enough to take my time in developing the skills necessary to paint a proper backdrop.
I hope everyone has a good weekend.
Morning Gang: I just stopped in to see if anyone had heard from or about Jeff. Prayers are still going his way.
We got back from breakfast and now it's time to get to work. I have to put out a bale of hay for the heifers and then get back to work on the fences. We had just a touch of snow. Officialy .1inch. It stayed on the grass but not the roads and bare ground. It's gone now.
I'd better get going. See you all later.
in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thank you!
Wife took her dad back to the assisted living facility where he walked in on his own. Hopefully he will be OK for awhile.
Busy day on the ol' farm ahead. Will check in later for news of Jeffrey.

Good Morning All,
Hope everyone had a good turkey day. We were running all day between having dinner at home and then a second dinner with our oldest sons fiances' family. Wish we'd hear something about Jeff. I worry as one of my cousins had diabetes and ended up with all sorts of dramas. He passed while I was in the navy and in a place where we were out of touch so I didn't find out until after the funeral.
Lee, we do think of our service people at holiday times - many of us have been there ourselves far from home and family so we can sympathize.
Spending time in the shop today trying to catch up some projects and do some stuff for the house as well. I'll stop in from time to time. CUL, J.R.
Greetings from Nashville.
Except for Jeff, I see everone had a good Thanksgiving. It was a good one here also.
I, too, am fearful that Jeff may have a mojor problem.
Dave V. ...I'm wondering if you have been involved in Keystone Modelers group. I became a little familiar with them a couple of years ago. I did a little PRR modeling and rebuilt a Bowser T-1 junker into a decent locomotive, Keystone Modelers had a great article in their on-line publication that was quite helpful. Passengers connecting from my line to Penssy now travel in style.
We're leaving very shortly for Alabama.
Best wishes

Mornin, just coffee please Zoe.
Hope every one had a good turkey day. It was ok for me; Mother had me doing chores around the house, than we went out to my MIL's for supper. Of course we had to much to eat. Jamie and hers [minus SIL, had to work today] come in from Girard last night and will be here till tomorrow. Which is good, cause she can help Mother today around the house.
Still nothing from JEFF, and I thought about trying to E-mail David, but I think he uses Jeff computer to post. So he may not be able to check in and let us know anything.
JERRY,,,, how'ed things go with all the bodies in that small place??
DAVE,, we never had a train round the tree when I was growing up, but I did get an HO set for Christmas when I was 9 and played it for several years. I've still got some of the cars I run from that set.
LEE,, I do think of you folk most everyday, but for some reason just don't say much. We've had family in an out of the war zones, most made it ok, but sadly a few didn't.
I've got all the Athern JD series, mostly the older G and B's, that will go onto flat cars when the time comes.
JIM CG,, glad your getting some better, bout time. We seen some snowflakes on the way home last night but that's all. Jamie said they had some sleet n snow flurries at home yesterday, but nothing much.

Morning, Zoe - just a cup of mocha to go, please. Thanks!
Checking in to see if anyone had heard from Jeff or young David, before I go do laundry. Will be praying for word on Jeff soon (hopefully, that he is coming home today or tomorrow?).
Cold out - only 31 F for us here, with a 7 mph breeze and wind chill of 24. Got to buy a new 'sock cap' (or whatever those ones you pull on your head are; had one of those in the Navy and it's about the only hat/cap I wear regularly - in the winter). Lost my old cap somewhere on Wednesday, I think it was.

Dave, was that an intentional pun? ...
Take care if you or loved ones is coming down with this flu/cold/upper respiratory thing. It seems to be a slow haul getting rid of it all once you have it. Prayers for healing for all concerned.
Mornin' all...!
Looking forward to a week of turkey leftovers... Turkey sandwiches, turkey salad, turkey fried rice, pulled turkey BBQ, etc...
Thanks to all who pointed out the series on the N acle PRR I1sa 2-10-0 in Railroad Model Craftsman. As it turns out, not only have I been reading these articles (I love RMC), but I've been communicating with the author regularly on ideas for my M1 project. There is a small cadre of us Pennsy steam heads in N.
Hope everyone had a great holiday! Here's hoping Jeff's doing okay.

The steel track can be tough to keep clean as it tends to oxidize a lot. Other then that, no.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, we sure did.
Speaking of remembering our military folk, the other night I sent an e-card to...well, just to the guys and gals serving, a friend forwarded me a mail from Xerox, you choose a card and a message, and they e mail them to our troops. The cards look like they are all designed by kids, and the one I picked has a NS steam engine- at least I think thats what it is, it has the NS logo and the horse on it- drawn by an 11 year old in Georgia, if I remember right. Seemed legit, not like some of the "mail a card to a sick soldier" deal that went around a bit ago.
And indeed, it looks like winter is here, it was a cold, and at times, blustery day. Yesterday started off in the 60's, then the rains came and the temps dropped like a shoe. Or something else that drops fast. Not as good with those as I once was!
Everyone have a great weekend, and we'll check back next week!
We should have heard from Jeffrey by now. Frustrating not knowing anything.

Evening Gang: I worked on fences again this morning. I got one big hole fixed before we had to head over to dinner. About 3pm it started to snow and is still snowing. The grass is covered but the bare ground and gravel is still too warm for it to stick. The weather guessers are saying percipitation through the week end.
I'm really getting worried about Jeff. Has anyone tried to contact David?
It's kind of early but I am going to head on out. I'll check back later or early tomorrow.
Good Night All
Happy Thanksgiving guys!
Finally I'm able to get online at home!!
My comp is finally going fast enough to making it worth the time to go online. We had 10 over including my dad, mom, little brother and me. Right now I'm coming up with my december wish list. It's a good one.
BTW WE FINALLY GOT A DICENT SNOW FALL. it wasn't much but it was enough to cover the ground with a half a inch of snow.
Happy Thanksgiving Evening! Janie, how about a cup of coffee - I'm already like most turkeys were today - STUFFED! Oh, sorry 'bout that, Janie - I do that when I eat almost my body weight in one sitting... Yeah, maybe leave me a pot at the booth, too. Thank you, ma'am!
Lee, on the church you were asking about, the masonry walls may be the hard part (especially for the earlier 20th century). Most of the church kits out there are siding-covered style, and it's likely that in the pre-1950's era, most churches built of masonry would be the larger ones, in Eastern cities. I would expect that other/smaller town churches wouldn't have the $$ for masonry (brick, let alone for stone). Only stone or brick-looking church that a quick search on Walthers' site turned up was a European-looking one, which would require some good modification to Americanize it.
There are a few good frame church kits, if you'd be willing to go with that. Walthers has one (*not* the LifeLike one, though) their Gold Line Cottage Grove church, that looks pretty good. (it's less than $25 and is on sale below that now). Kibri has one that is brick, but is about $69 (!). The one I mentioned earlier (Heljan, I looked it up) is out of stock now (it was $14 or so). Main Street Heritage as a unique (and nice) First Community Church (kit #110) which is frame style, and Valley Model Trains has it in stock for a bit over $55. VMT's Pat Hennebery is a good guy to work with. I've ordered a few things through him over the past year plus, and have had great service and delivery from him. (I'm not employed by him nor getting any compensation for that...) Campbell's church was a nice one, but is out of stock at Walthers (you could try looking on that e-auction site, I suppose...). Branchline makes a fairly nice one, but it's over $65. Or if you feel adventurous, you could get some photos of a church like you like, draw up your own plans, and build it from scratch. That's sort of what I'll be doing - I like the Main Street Heritage one, but want to do it in plastic rather than wood, since I have more practice with plastic.
Inch, I can tell the antibiotic and decongestant are helping - the coughing isn't as rough (and I'm getting more of it out), and I am getting to sleep more easily. Still have some stuffiness in my right ear, but I can hear out of it much better now. Sounds like you and Debbie had a passle of the kinfolk there, even without the out-of-town relatives!
Inch, did you or Jerry get any snow up there yet? They were saying that we might get a smidgen of snowflakes last night, but no accumulation. I didn't see any sign of it, I know. I was thinking from the forecast last night that Lee & PC might be getting some snow from off the lakes. What about it, Lee or PC - any white stuff over there yet? We're at 36 F currently (and dropping to supposedly a low of 28 F tonight). Definitely feels more like winter (well, like spring to our neighbours in Nova Scotia...
Dave, that was in the November 2007 RMC issue - they used a Kato 2-8-2 as the starting point, and also used a GHQ L1 conversion kit, Minitrix and ConCor parts. Pages 70-80 in the RMC issue.

Ah, tradition - Area 51 car, huh? I still will be holding off until Sunday to put my tree and other decorations up (though I have the boxes of Christmas decorating stuff in from the storage shed). Lee, I'll cover the tab for this page - hadn't realized you were still in the active service. And while I'm doing the dishes to cover my bill, I'll get more humidity, which (as the others said) should help my congestion clear up, right?
Got a work area cleared off on the dining room table today, so I could get back to some MRR work tonight.
I was going to make baked chicken breasts with (cream of) mushroom sauce topping for dinner tonight, but discovered I didn't have the cream of mushroom soup. So I went with plan B - seasoned the chicken, covered it with pasta sauce (with mushrooms), and topped them with some grated cheddar/Monterey Jack cheese mix once they were done. Also fixed a salad and some pineapple rings to go with that. Yum! I even have one other left to reheat later in the weekend for dinner or a lunch.
I'll be at the corner booth with my coffee, waiting for enough dishes to accumulate and for me to do a load. Let me know once you have enough in the back, Janie! Thanks.
I'm with the rest of you - sure would like to hear some news that Jeffrey has been back but sleeping because of some strong antibiotic or medication they put hi
I had the unfortunate joy today to run into Kmart to pick up a couple last minute things. Took me over an hour to get through the checkout line, but I managed to find a few older John Deer HO-Scale tractors and a few automobiles. The tractors were $5 for 2 tractors and the cars were $1.50 each.
Thanks, last mountain & eastern hogger, I don't think too many people think of us military guys on the holidays. I think I'm up to rotate through the big sand box in 2008, we shall see.....
happy Turkey day to all....

Another Quick HO question: Is there any difference between Bachmann EZtrack found in cheap train sets and the Bachmann EZtrack sold in small packs? Seems like I could probably buy a set, keep the track (for wife's layout), sell off the cheaper trains, and end up paying much less for the track (IF it is the SAME track)??? Thanks for any info.
***Mitch, your mention of a wind-up triggered a forgotten memory from the obscure recesses of my noggin. My "first" train was some kind of stamped metal wind-up toy, but it didn't run on a track. You wound it up and set it on a floor where it ran every which-way.It was green with some silly painted details and seemed (to me as a small child) fairly large, that's all I remember.
Wish we would hear something/anything from Jeffrey.
Afternoon folks-Happy Thanksgiving!
Dawn got off work early so we'll be able to head off to the relatives & make dinner on time after all. (which we'll be doing in a little while.)
Dave, you're definitely gonna get a cool down-& some gusty winds as well. Temp here is 42.1 as I write this. Woke up this morning to see the trash can across the street, & a large dead tree branch down in the yard. Oh well, 1 less to cut down next spring
Most have grown up with a Lionel around the tree, yet my experience has been almost all HO-my grandfather had a Mantua 0-4-0 saddletanker & a few cars, which was the 1 train around the tree I knew best. (my 1st train was a Marx wind-up HO scale believe it or not) I also had one of those Life-Like/Tyco something Penn Central C-415s. Never ran it around the tree (that honor went to my Tyco ATSF F-9) but the C-415 as I recall sputtered, stalled, never ran worth a crap, but that ozone scent it gave off-ah, memories!
Wishing the best for Jeff also-maybe we'll get some news soon (& hopefully good!)
[FastTracks elongated loop (gotta make room for presents!) and the classic Lionel generic 4-4-2 pulling clasic cars (like the Area 51 Alien Car) in a noisy loop.]
***Dave, love that smell of ozone in the air. What memories I have of my eldest brothers Lionel 4-6-4, smoke belching, whistle blowing, noise making loco pulling all those animated cars (like the cop chasing the hobo around stacked boxes, the box cars with characters popping out of doors, the spot light car, and the list goes on and on). Have any pics you can post of yours? That same brother now has Z scale under his bed and is unfortunately in poor health these days. I know he misses his HO & O scale trains, but has no room for them now.
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
My olderst boy was baptized near Christmas of 2002, so his Godparents send him a new Lionel car every year.
It's crazy warm here today (temps in the low 70s), but we expect a cold front tonight, ushering in highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s!
Here's hoping all is well with Jeff; I can't help but feel a little gloomy on the prospects, though, just based on his description of his problem. I'm no doctor, but I've had basic military first aid... and it sure sounds like gangrene. I hope I'm all wrong!
