Your latest locomotive
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, December 28, 2003 1:42 PM
Now that you've said what your first locomotive was, what's your latest? Mine's a Bachmann UP 0-6-0 switcher with a vanderbilt tender.

Also have an Atlas RI U30C on order ... should be here soon!

Waiting for Rivarossi UP FEF-3 in two-tone gray! Should get it from the UPS man tomorrow aftrenoon! Last before that was the Bowser 4-8-4 kit. Next on the list is the Rivarossi 2-6+6-6, that will take some saving up for though...

Good Luck, Morpar

Mine is a Broadway Limited E-7 in Great Northern Empire Builder green and orange. It is so fantastic what sound adds as an incentive to realistic operation! I can hardly wait till the end of Jan to get my 2nd unit. Then I will go for the switchers and hope for some F units later next year. I am already tearing out portions of layout to go for really broad curves with easements , and I may even add very light superelevation.

I've got a couple of undecorated Broadway Limited heavy 2-8-2's coming. They should be here this week. One will be done as a Southern MS-4 and the other as an L&N J-4.
i'm really looking forward to them.

Cacole....Just out of curiousity what did you pay for your Lionel Challenger. I was scoping one out at my LHS the other day (only one they had was UP...but they said they would get me the Clinchfield one if i wanted it)...but they are sticking to the list price and offering it for $700....my comeback was...why the heck would i pay $700 for a peice of plastic that will depriciate when i could pay that much or maybe a little more for one in brass that will be worth soemthing more someday. So im curious as to what you paid...if i could get one for $450 that would be better...but not for what they are asking.

I have not purchased a locomotive in over two years but my dad's friend is getting one of those MTH G- Scale Challengers. I guess the thing weighs 32 punds and he said that there are only goning to be something like two or three of them shiped to Colorado (where I live) and the rest will go other places so they are pretty hard to get.

My latest (and it is also my first) locomotive is a Life Like Amtrak F-40. I know Life Like doesn't have a great reputation with some folks here, but I didn't want to spend a fortune on equipment when I was first starting out.

Although I have nothing to compare it against, I am very happy with it. It is quite heavy, sticks to the track well and pulls very smoothly even at extremely low speed.

a couple of very old steam loco's w tenders
(1) 2 4 2 , (2) 0 6 0-both appear to have been cast many yrs ago in japan.
rewired. cleaned,repainted, greased-they run well.
made by New One Model, could not find them anywhere on the net--so i really do not know how old they are. Yet they are old, Has anyone heard of this manufacturer?

The latest one I got was an old Rivarossi 2-8-0 from the 50's that's actually a model of an Italian engine that's had a few parts added on to it to make it look American (it was manufacturered that way). It's an interesting conversation piece. It won't be my latest engine for long, though, because I buy a lot of stuff from ebay and usually have something coming in the mail most weeks.
