Humm, Sawyer what you could do is Google, "Conrail map" and see if you can find a Early 80s map right after they took over PC, and then find a later map before the CSX/NS take over. Then see the Branch lines they spun off.

Humm, flash removed. The earliest I can order the parts is Wenesday...so no work till then.

Looking good!

May I suggest reinforcing the rear section of the frame? You probably don't want it warping when gluing the hood sections on. If you need details I have far too many in my parts drawer. Dunno what I have anymore, haha.

Thanks. I'm not going to reinforce the frame yet. I still need to shop the frame a quater of an inch shorter. So that might be my next project, another one to make me sweat. But I won't cut the fame untill I get and apply the hood doors to a piece of stryene. If I screw up on cutting the frame, the whole project will be set back for a little while.

Right now I don't need anyparts. I just need to order them.

You could probably get the U23Bs from anywhere. RR were most likely selling them off at a time, probably the early-mid 90s. So you could get them from CSX, ATSF, or what ever railroad you want that had U23Bs. WC got almost more than half of there fleet of SD45s from ATSF. So you could have equipment form every where. Look at the Montréal Maine and Atlantic, they have BN U30Cs (I think) and ATSF U boats, and they operate in New England/Canada! You can also have some old power too, another example would be the RF&P, they ran there GP35s on the point of TOFC trains right up until CSX bought them out, and then a few years after.

In the 1980's/1990's Conrail began selling their U23B's. In the 1990's Guilford began selling their B&M/MEC GP40-2's/GP38-2's, and GP7/9's(and the 4 Chopnose GP18's). In the 80's Guilford owned the D&H. If you think about it. You could have a bridge line running on former Conrail Tracks, with an Interchange with D&H. So right away you have GP38's/40's and B23-7's. In the 90's Guilford sold off their Alco's, GE's, and SD's. Now you have RS11's, C424's, U18B's, U25B's, U33C's SD45's, and SD26's(ATSF rebuilt SD24's mad cool). In 1999 CSX took over conrail, and replaced the C30-7A's on the Boston line with AC4400's, AC6000's, and SD70MAC's. Now you have C30-7's. D&H came under control of CP. CP eventually began getting rid of their SD40-2's. There's your SD40-2's. So on a small line, interchanging with two railroads... you could get... RS11's, C424's, U18B's, U25B's, B23-7's, U33C's C30-7's, GP7/9's, GP38-2's, GP40-2's, SD26's, SD40-2's, and SD45's. That's a lot of power that could realisticly be bought by a shortline.

Almost. MM&A has a couple GP7u's and a F3A all in storage, C30-7's, B23-7's, and B39-8's.

  • GP7u's and F3A are ex. BAR
  • C30-7's vary. Some are strait ex. BN, others are ex. FAIX, exx. CRL. and exxx. AT&SF.
  • B23-7's are ex. BNSF, exx. AT&SF.
  • B39-8's are ex. LMS.

Thanks folks. Well, the point is, I have a small branch line

Not really looking for critque, but if you see a dire problem, please tell me. This will be run w/ either a H-15-44, GP9, GP30, or some other roadswitcher. and of course, there's Altoona at the end of it, so GP38-2s, GP40-2s, SD40-2s, etc. will be going to the Conrail interchange or switching some industries as testing. This is 1981-89 people, so that's the era I've got to work w/. I can't wait for next summer.

81-89, hummm, if you really wanted SD45s you could pick up some Ex BN ones...and maybe a Ex BN F45...Whistling [:-^]

What if... you had a diamond or bridge.... say a train came from where the furniture plant heading towards staging, at which point it would cross over the other line, wind down great, go under the line they were just on, and pop out by the snack food plant... Sort of liek tehachapi, but will get rid of the S curves, and provide a wider radius... I'll draw a plan on graph paper just a little cleaned up.

The cars look good, and so do the locomotives. Notice the plural!

They really have two painted: 8569 and 8592.

Then there's this thing, 3000, kinda has some paint, well, not really, it's just a patch. Big Smile [:D] This is the rebuild where they added bigger wheelsets, and added completely new electronics, so they relocated the coupler. Also, I like the patch, and how its the Montreal Maine & Atlantic R____ay.

8592 was the one that hit a truck and derailed, ending up 90 degrees to the track... I really like the MM&A; one of my favorite railroads, along with P&W, ATSF, FEC, Finger Lakes Railway, and a whole ton of others...Whistling [:-^]

Umm....actually it does. Ed Burkhardt was fired from the WC, then he founded RailWorld, which took the former Bangor & Aroostok and turned it into the MM&A. The BAR was totally bankrupt and had horrible service, plus it owed many of the online shippers (what little hadn't switched to trucks because of the service) money. It was a pretty bad situation. 

EDIT: Yeah, I forgot about Conrail...one of my favorites... I have a lot of CR equipment too; a C40-8W, a covered hopper, a caboose, two boxcars (one of which is in PC turquise!) and a coal hopper.

Oh yes, I know, it was sarcasm...actually Ed wasn't fired from WC, I think the company just kicked him out. If Ed hadn't of gotten kicked out, WC would still be around, with scream 645 SD45s...

I don't know if any of you are familiar with Livonia Avon & Lakeville, Morristown & Erie, or Genesee Valley Transportation Family. LAL is also affiliated with Bath & Hammondsport, and Western New York & Pennsylvania. It's an all ALCo road. M&E is also all Alco, and have a lot of Century's. GVT is made up of Delaware-Lackawanna, Lowville & Beaver River, Depew Lancaster & Western, Mohauk Adirondack & Northern. This is also an all ALCo road. Now, if the three of these were to merge to form a mega-road of Alco's... Think of what they could do... The lines are already pretty profitable, and each road has a very good staff of ALCo Mechanics... It might turn out like Penn Central, but with proper management, could be the Largest ALCo operator world wide, and all that combined cash could certainly afford some other smaller shortlines.
