I am envious!!! I want to go to Pennsylvania...that's where I'm from. Haven't been there since 1998. Bummer. But Immediate family moved to Texas...bummer. Well I'll get back there someday. Want to ride the Keystone from Harrisburg to Phila. 105 mph in some places. Imagine skirting Amish farm fields at that speed. What a rush.
Anyway. Have a great time. And tell us of your adventures when you return...or in the meantime.
Have fun.

Lion go play Strasuburg RR or Steamtown? Check out the backshop tours both places.
George In Midcoast Maine, 'bout halfway up the Rockland branch
Enjoy Lion! Pennsy is not all bad.... After all, it was a big rail state!
Weird Al's Amish paradise gets a little funny reception in places though...
If you come by the NW area of Pa, shoot me a message, I can not be of any assistance (or company) on the eastern side though.... Work schedule is crazy right now.... (Back to school sales, and I work retail sales at a chain store.)
I do second the vote on Steamtown though.... If you are into steam. If you are not,...... You will be when you leave!

If you make it around the Reading area let me know. I can't show you much of a layout, all I have is my old one in pieces stacked on the floor, but there are some nice rides and museums to see.

I just wish Lion would stop posting in the third person, it's annoying.

last mountain & eastern hogger DAVID FORTNEY I just wish Lion would stop posting in the third person, it's annoying. I find that a funny/strange comment. Br. Elias has been doing that for years. Take a look at his post count compared to yours, slightly over 5000 plus difference.. Lol.. He has the Seniority and if it gives him pleasure it is OK with most of us. Pay attention to him and what he has to teach you. You will become much richer in knowledge and skill in modelling in a frugal style and making it all come together successfully. Johnboy out...................
You can like it all you want but I don't have to.
He CAN write first person, at least I HOPE the MR editors didn't have to compeltely rewrite his submission that got published in Workshop Tips a few months ago.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that both engines have failed, and we will be stuck here for some time. The good news is that you decided to take the train and not fly."
Thought lions were poor, could not afford vacation?
No idea how poor or rich Lion may be, and it's not our business. Most of his commentary indicates he has creatively managed to stretch a very limited budget in construction of his model railroad. I doubt he has been reduced to hitchhiking or riding the rods to go on vacation, but I'm sure he's not using his own private jet either. Everybody needs a break for a change of scene and an opportunity to see family and old friends now and then. That's a good way to promote mental health. He has made a commitment to a life that most of us wouldn't go for, but there's no logical reason to think he has to eke out a life on spirituality alone. All things in moderation.
Now I'll get down off my soap box.

Have a great vacation, Lion! Just don't get jostled too much on the rutted roads while you travel around Pennsyltucky!
rrebell Thought lions were poor, could not afford vacation?
Monks get a two week vacation every year. It is written into the customary of our monastery. Most people make a retreat by visiting a monastery, but we live in one, and thus are surounded with the same issues that others face in their jobs or homes. We make a retreat by leaving the monastery for two weeks.
It was not always sooth, for in ancient yore (say 50-60 years ago) monks took their retreats on the monastery grounds, perhaps at a retreat house or hermitage set aide for tha use. Ever since to '60s monks have been encouraged to visit their parents or family. heretofore, I would visit my parents in their home in East Stroudsburg, but now at 92 they are in assisted living, and so in addition to air fare, their is car rental, hotel stays, and meals to pay for. This will be my most expensive vacation yet.
Anyway, I have arrived in PA, after three filghtd that were boring but uneventful. Maybe next year I will go back to riding the train. Should my parents pass away, I still have brothers and nieces to visit, but I can also take a vacation at another monatery, perhaps Newark.
Mr. Lion,
I hope you have a very enjoyable vacation.
Uh, ROAR.

With any luck, you might catch a glimpse of a herd of two dozen deer beside Interstate 80! Do have a memorable time with the parents.
