If you think my model railroad layout is neat, you should see my slot car track- it's much cooler!!!!!!!

Gosh, don't those old Life-Like train sets look realistic?

What's so interesting about trains, anyway?

Metro Red Line

[While stopped at a railroad crossing] "Ugh, this stupid train is taking FOREVER! Move faster already!"

"There are too many hobby shops."

"This brick and morter hobby shop ROCKS! Everything is 25% off retail price!"

"Ballasting is fun!"

"My layout is finally 100% FINISHED!"

Your last one really hit home, especially when visitors ask, "When will you be done with it??"

Going to the Timonium Train show is a waste of time, I almost never find anything that I am interested in.

There is a guy in another train forum who essentially said something like that just recently when he got back from the last Timonium show - he was really disappointed and didn't menion any purchases.  Felt like it was a wast of his time - I'm paraphrasing.  I went and while it was a summer how, I found it a nice treasure hunt

Who is John Allen?

I'll bet you there are a lot of younger model railroaderse who say that.  That one really depends on age.

I would work on my layout, but there is too much good stuff to watch on TV.

I've never heard myself say that.

Those are my thoughts.  One thing I've learned after many years in the hobby is never say never!

Cheers, Jim

My vintage Tyco collection is way better than that silly brass stuff.

John Allen is a legend.  I see his name mentioned in MR and this forum all the time.  Other model railroad masters of today say they get their inspiration from him.

I am SO GLAD that there is a limited amount of Wheeling and Lake Erie equipment on the market (Then again, I do enjoy decaling projects from undecorated stuff)

This steam locomotive is out of my era, so I will not run it.

I wish I had less space to work with

I am so glad locomotives cost 400 dollars at a time

Who wants Bowser kits?

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

While I agree, it would be interesting to take a poll of younger modelers, say those under 30 who don't rub shoulders alot with old timers, and see if they've heard of John Allen or his RR.  I am 55 and consider myself well past John Allens time.  I've only seen a few photo's of his work and always considered it a "curiousity".  Lots of talent no doubt.  We had a discussion on another forum where a number of members put John Allen in a class with Malcolm Furlow and a few others, who's layouts were more "Disneyesque" and many agree.  Art, yes, realism, not so much rather fantasy.

I think a lot of modern model railroaders think of "Pelle Seolberg"(I know I messed up the last name by accident), for their inspiration.   Or The man who created the Ohio Southern, etc.  The Virginian and Ohio is the earliest one I was exposed to.

What IS a "Cody Grivno" anyway??"

"why do they call the magazine "Model Railroader"??"

"I want to buy up all the Tyco I can find"

"tyco has GREAT detail"

"Train shows are a waste of time. I can never find anything there related to my hobby"

"Trains? at a DOLL SHOW?"

" I am going to build a giant layout to model the Wooden Thomas the Tank"

"This Model has way too much detail for me"

"I will only by "RTR" structures made in colored plastics"

"i have enough trees"

"I finished my layout now, time to start a new additional one in the {garage}{attic}{shed}"

"My wife has no need for the laundry room and we can do without central heating/AC, so I can remove those areas from the basement to have more space for the layout"

I'd love another Santa Fe F7 (remember seeing tons of them everywhere years ago, especially in those Life-Like train sets)

Everybody loves limited model production.

One day, i'll convert back to DC.

Shouldn't have primed before paintingDead

Oh great, UP is restoring a BigBoy...Big deal!

Oh great, Fire Up 611 up is happening...Big deal!

Buy one get one free Exactrail...Pffft! Who cares?

I'm never tempted by free shipping for that locomotive I don't need.

I'm so glad my layout room is this small and not 25x45.
