Yeah, I wish I had the space on the funds to add some continuous running facilities. I just have to make do within the framework of my little means. The traverser (movable table) will take care of the run-around, so there is a minimum of operation, not only looks.

How do you like my 2-d picture? Took me hours to prepare, but it helps me to visualize the layout.

Sn*w - who said that word? We have end of April and it is nice and sunny outside!

CUL

Edit:

I have added a train to the picture - can you spot it?

Just saw a road grader go by grading the road. That means there's a fairly good chance we'll be getting some heavy rain soon. Weather data indicates that we'll have rain before the weekend, possibly Thursday or Friday.

Good late morning.  The rain finally stopped!!!

Well I'm off to work in a few hours.   Not much going on other than that.

JR..........We don't have rental insurance under our policy.  Since we are good drivers, we see no need to have it.  We will get one once the police are done with the paper work.  The wreck happened last Friday, and the police officer said he should be done by this Thursday.  Something about the computers went down.   The body shop we picked out does frame work, and the are a partner with All-State.   We hope to hear something maybe late today or tomorrow.

Hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning all.  I'll have an order of goolash (peanut butter, alaga syrup (or another good, thick, rich syrup), and biscuits mixed together), sausage, and a tall glass of milk to wash it down please.

Well, its day two of being off from w**k and I've still got nothing on my plate.  Thinking that I might get on the bike and go ride a little today, but its looking like its about to come liquid sunshine here, so I dunno about that.  Have a few clothes to fold and put away today, but that's about it.  Hmm, what to do, what to do?       I know what I can do, I can go over to Rob's house and fix the tractor and pickup with the undersized tools, along with a few of my correct sized ones...yeah, that'll work, then I can go up to Ray's and pull the hitch out of his truck, or at least threaten it and call it dirty names for him....

Well gee, i guess I got my day all figured out, now just to get the gas money to do it (truck is a little low on the go-juice).  Oh well, I guess I can sit at home and work out the list of trains to run on my layout and their "probable" engine needs, that sounds like a plan too...

Welp, breakfast sits before me, so I better get to it here in the window booth....

Robby, glad to hear that your wife is okay after the accident, I know that they can be no-fun at all, and good luck on getting a rental.

Supper time is approaching rapidly. Although Petra made one of my favorite dishes for lunch - Spaghetti alla Bolognese e una insalat mista - I start to get hungry gain.

Zoe, how about a beefburger "Hungry Man", home fries and a nice glass of cold "Bitburger Pils"? Thank you.

I really got carried away with that plan today. I spend the rest of the afternoon playing around with various colors for the buildings. I think I now have found the max I can do.

I hope to capture a typical British urban flavor with this layout !

Ulrich - That plan is looking better all the time. The only other thing I'd do is add another pair of turnouts between the passenger platforms so you could have a run around for the engine. Probably not prototypical, but.....  J.R.

 Afternoon folks!

Chloe, Cheeseburger, fries, and more coffee to warm me up.  I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter for a few minutes.

Meeting went well this morning.  One of applicants this year is the daughter of a woman who was in 7th. grade my first year in Geneva.  The mother was one of only a couple Black kids in the chorus back then.  Very few "minority" kids participated in band or chorus at the time.  Major difference between back then and now.... I hope I had something to do with making THAT change.  Anyway the Mom was a poor waif that we didn't know whether she would turn out well or go down a dark road in her life.  She came back to my room after school when she was a Junior in HS to "brag" about her score at a Music Association Solo contest.  A couple years after that she confided in me how much being in chorus and being accepted by other students and her teachers meant to her.  She ended up working for Head Start for several years, also had a baby.  The daughter was in Head Start and today is very active in the community, has a beautiful voice (like Mom), starred in several HS Musicals, Volunteers for several organizations, and has turned out to be a real gem!  She has also kept a GPA of 88 throughout HS.  She is also  outgoing, friendly, respectful and a real charmer. She will be going to our local College next year (Not an easy college to get into I might add).  Somehow it makes me feel very good.............

Oh!!! IT MOVED!!!  The hitch will now move from side to side!  YES!  Still has a lot of pounding on it with the maul before it comes out I'm sure, but it moved!  I'm going to win this one!

OK, back to w*rk.

JR, the problem is I have continuity on all wheels, there is no isolation between right power pick up and left power pick up.  It's almost like the old Model Power or Life-Like wheel-motor combo's.

Lee if there is no isolation between truck sides, the thing wouldn't run on DC either. I have an older one I can check, but it wouldn't be until the weekend when I can fish it out of the depths of the storage shed. Could you be getting a false reading from the two motors already being wired together? (We can't even blame the tender here can we darned diseaseals).  J.R.

Evening all, just stopping in for a RBF before Amy and the girls get home. I've got spaghetti on the stove waiting for them.  I'll be sure to bring in the left overs when we're done, and there should be plenty (neither one of us knows how to make a "small" portion of spaghetti).  Nothing much happened today, did finish some outstanding laundry, did a few dishes that didn't get done last night after supper, but I guess the most important thing that I did was wash the bike.  Boy, did it need it!  But now its washed, has two coats of wax on it, and has the cover over it so that no more crows will be "doing their business" on it.

Welp, guess that's about it, I'll do my best to stop in later tonight.

You're going to have continuity from the right wheels to the left wheels because the motor acts as the circuit bridge. Disconnect the motor and you shouldn.t get a continuity reading between the right and left wheels.

Evening, Chloe - Hey, it's Jim, from Cape G.! I haven't been gone that long, have I? Well, yes, it has been a while, but it's because of my sickly laptop (and getting it ready to send off for repairs...). Here, look at my driver's license, see, it's really me. Whew, I was afraid you were gonna tell Vinnie I was sneaking in to steal pies or something. Oh, I'll just have a mug of hot cocoa for now, please. Thanks! I figured I'd better try to get by, before Garry started spreading some truth rumors about me! Shock

For those wondering, I lucked out tonight, and somebody near my apartment has their WiFi up (and it has a stronger signal than usual). Whistling

Sorry to hear of some passing of friends of some Diners. AngelAngel for them and for the Diners missing them. Good to see JP and Bill T. (and probably others in the pages I missed) have been in, and that Garry's back from Michigan.

Oh, Garry, I'm planning on swinging by your place (and your two train buddies there) on Saturday (1st). We'll get the directions figured out for me. Is that BP on the right coming off the bridge, or the left? (Email me on that one, please)

Robby, even without getting to your report on your wife's accident, I would agree - have her go get checked out; some after-effects don't show up right away,

Lee, sorry to hear about your grandmother's passing. I miss both of mine (lost the one on Dad's side around when I was in high school, and on Mom's side a few years after my daughter was born). Thank you for your post about Digitrax and the saga of CV-60 (though I will be going with them, I'll know that I'll want to make a lot of use of the knowledge of my fellow MRR club members' experience with Digitrax.

Speaking of my local MRR club, it's pretty much official that we will be moving. Weird thing was, last night when we came in for meeting, it looked like somebody had come in and done some cleaning up (ceiling tiles moved, less clutter where the wall leak has been...). It had rained the last half of last week, but it didn't look like it had leaked as badly as on previous times.  As for the new location, it's the upstairs of an auto design, customization and sound/stereo company, and our club electronics guru w**ks there and knows the boss. The owner/boss isn't going to charge us rent or utilities, though we'll have the cost of partitioning off our area upstairs. That won't be too hard, since another club member is a retired construction/contractor. It'll be somewhat bigger than our current space, and we won'r have to start from scratch, but will be ale to use sections and just add some space between some of them. Last night we were boxing up about all of the locos and cars in their boxes (except for a few we didn't have a labeled box for).

DerJohn, on those signs, one thing you could do for smaller type sizes would be to make the typeface size about double what you want in Publisher, and then do the printout at about 50 percent reduction in size, if your printer has that capability. That would allow you to use, say 6 point type and then reduce the printout to make it 3 pt. size. Worth trying, since you're in that iNvisible scale size, anyway... Smile,Wink, & Grin

So, Todd - if those folks call you again for a 'little' bit of repair w**k, can you 'neglect to hear' your phone ringing? Guess it depends on if they're family (and if so, which part of the family). Oops By the way, I seem to recall (back when I had a lawn I had to mow...) that if the grass was too high, I'd (on 2nd and later swaths) only try to take a half-width (or third-width) at a time, depending on how high/thick the grass was.

Chris, congratulations on the layout progress. I know from your earlier posts that it's been a (long?) while since you were able to get something done on the MRR. Thumbs Up

Ulrich, your friend sounds like a great mentor, and I'm sure he's watching you making your designs, getting that finely-detailed loco, and all. Like your new 'traverser' plan - and the side view (but the view from above has two dimensions, too). Wink Good job on the buildings and the train additions. Keep at it, 'cause running trains is running trains (spoken as someone else with a small switching layout design...).Yeah!!

I made Mom's beef stroganoff for dinner tonight and brought some by for you all - I'm stuffed! Besides, gives everybody a couple of choices to pig out on. Dinner

This is my 'out of office in the days' week; was on-call Sat. & Sunday, but not too many trips out (more phone calls than usual, though). I was thinking about getting back to my modular transfer warehouse building. Getting tired of seeing it sitting in the corner of my bedroom.Grumpy Today, I got a late start, shipped out the AC adapter/charger for the iPod (have another one ordered and on the way), as I figured out that it was still within their warranty. Smile That way, if I have one die on me, I'll have another until I get the other replaced. Also took some pants and 3 modems by Goodwill (I guess maybe somebody is saving and still using dial-up, right?). Also looked over the May Walthers sale flyer some. Need to run by the post office and see if it and/or the new MR has arrived yet. Not sure if I have any appointments tomorrow before on-call time, but I'll call the office in the a.m. and see.

Well, I'd best get gone; evening news is on and I don't want to stay up until 11:30 like last night. Prayers for those Diners (or family) healing up or in need of comfort, and take care of yourselves (and loved ones)!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Hello ...

JimCG ... looking forward to seeing you. The BP gas station is the only gas station for miles and miles, and you can't miss it after crossing the bridge over Lake Barkley (Cumberland River), and you look on the south side of the road.  That's the second bridge, and the first one is over Kentucky Lake (Tennessee River). The bridges are nasty, 75 year old ones. Watch out for on-coming trucks. I won't drive over the bridges if I see a barge tow approaching in the water below, because I doubt the bridges would withstand a direct collision from the barges.  New brides are planned, and the road through the Land-between-the-Lakes is under construction to accomodate them.  You can ignore the stimulus signs and their propaganda because the project was funded and in progress long before the stimulus bill was enacted.

This is the view from our house looking west-north-west, and you can see two barge tows passing each other. The bridge is just out of view to the right.

You may see large bird nests on the tops of the bridges. They are osprey birds, and the locals call them "bridge eagles".

Mornin' everybody!

Zoe, a couple eggs poached with an order of the sourdough toast to go along with my Organic Seneca Lake Blend coffee this morning.  I'll go sit in the front booth and watch the goings on outside.

Currently 47°F outside under partly cloudy skies this morning here in the Finger Lakes.  Supposed to get up into the low 50s later this afternoon, so they say.  Lots of wind out there as well.  Talking 30 MPH winds this afternoon.

I have to go over to Staples for printer ink ASAP.  Started to print out the 8 paged handout for the clinic.  Got to the last page.......  Out of Magenta ink!  Because the handout is photo intensive, I am using quite a bit of ink to do the copies needed.  I am also using the photo printer for this and have some heavy color copy paper I am using to get nice clear photos.  For what ever reason the output right at the moment on my color laser printer is very poor so I decided to use the photo printer.  It is coming out nice, but is costing me a couple $$ more.

Haven't wandered outside yet to beat on the Reese Hitch.  Still in the receiver on the truck.Grumpy  Moves from side to side easier, so it should be getting ready to break free any day now!ShockEvil

Beautiful birds!  We are fortunate to have several nesting pairs of these over in Montezuma National Refuge near Seneca Falls.

This one is a captive female Bald Eagle who was found in Alaska as a young bird with a broken wing.  She is now in her 20's I believe and is cared for by a wildlife photographer who has a license to keep raptors that cannot be released back into the wild.  He was a presenter at Sci-Tek Camp last year.

OK, gotta get moving can't seem to "make the mornin' last..."

Good Morning, Zoe. Oh, Chloe told you the rumors of my falling off the edge of the earth were a tad bit wrong, eh? Well, she's right, I am still around - just not always in here as much as I'd like. I'll have #2 special, scrambled, wheat toast and blackberry jam, with a glass of Ed's OJ (the tankers arrived from SOTB last night, eh? Just in time, too), and a Rio Grande mug of dark roast, please. Thanks!

Keith, you're looking good on the buildings there - I'd say that fenced-in patch to the left might make a nice beer garden. All you need now is an N-scale 4G iPhone sitting on one of the tables... Smile,Wink, & Grin I think how you've been fitting things into the cramped space that cities can be, is great! (Maybe that's why my layout is set in more rural areas, less concern about "Where am I gonna fit all these buildings?" or "How am I gonna make that building fit in there?")Whistling Hats off to you and the others who manage to model city areas!

Barry - code 40?!? Are you getting that for a mine, or what? Wink Or a branch line? And, are you taking care of yourself? Hope so.

Garry, thanks for the directions and description. Those bridges sound like our old Cape G. bridge we used to have - more than once, two semi's would be crossing the bridge at the same time (opposite directions), and one or both would lose their outside mirror in passing. ShockWow!! Let me know if there's a time for me to get there (or not before such and such a time, if you or your buddies will have stuff needing done (like chasing the gremlins away from the layout). Looking forward to my first real, face-to-face meet with another Diner (so far).

I'll join you and Barry at the window booth and start on my breakfast. Then it'll be time to go check the mailbox and see if I (maybe) have appointments with clients this afternoon. (Tonight's on-call).

Blessings and may you have some sunshine today (even those of you in the East with snow on the ground),

Well I've cut grass, did some grocery shopping, and that's it for now.  Gotta go fax some papers for All State, and see what I can find to do on the layout later.

Jim.....Thanks for your concerns.   She's been checked out twice.  Jessica will be checked out by her family doctor Friday, which will make it three times.  Shes still hurting, and a few tight muscles.   I'm sure she will get some physical therapy .

Jim CG ......... speaking of Ed's OJ, has anyone heard from him lately? ... The bridges were closed several hours last year after a barge brushed up against a pier on a very windy day. Inspectors checked out the bridges and they were fine.

Ray ... nice photo of the eagle.

Oh yep---branchline for the Denfield New Life Grain mill. This is going to be laid directly on the foam---no roadbed for this 'un--

As for taking care of myself I'm taking all my meds and my insulin shots and I'll be watching my diet anymore---oh, got a bit of walking done for the morning--now ready for the afternoon walk---Whistling

BTW--all this talk about weird bridges---should check out the Sarnia Rd bridge over the CP tracks up here---road goes along then crosses this bridge at a 90* angle to the road. 1 lane only---trucks have come along and knocked bridge abuttments enough to take bridge out for awhile. Oh---and 3 ton weight limit----anyone bet that the sign is read at all?GrumpyWhistling

Sawyer.......She's pretty beat up still.  The doctor today did say a concussion peaks at about three days.  Then it doesn't hurt as bad.  I've really never been in a car wreck.  Jessica (my wife) was in a five car pile-up about four years ago.  Se seems to find the wrecks!!

ouch. well, least she's pretty much alright. hope she gets better quick!

well, the world geo project is looking up. topic should be easy to research and the skit should be ok to write. I have two tests straight tomorrow, 2nd and 3rd period. 2nd is Julius Caesar and 3rd is Bio. so I'm gonna hit the books and sit in the back booth. if you hear loud music, it's probably my ipod.

Got this weeks medical visits done. I discovered that I've lost more weight. Last week I was 242. This week I'm 238. I've also discovered that the shakiness in my right hand has gotten a bit worse. There's no history of anyone in my family having Parkinson's disease so I don't have any idea what's going on. Home Health will be notifying my doctor of it so I anticipate getting a call from his office within a weeks time. My mother thinks it's a muscle palsy. I've had a problem with shaking in my right hand for several years but just the first two fingers. Now the other fingers are involved and it's starting in my left hand also. I sure had an interesting time signing a check for deposit this morning.

Hi guys!

Evening fun {yeah right} and I deserve a nice glass of wine with which to relax.

I have not popped in for a few days as the computer's hard drive FAILED AGAIN and screwed up the Operating System, so had to be replaced AGAIN. That took a few days, naturally. Then when the tech brought it back, he had to spend about 3 hours getting our SAFETY program reinstalled. It is McAfee, which works very well with AOL, and does a mighty fine job. It kept failing the install. Neither he nor I were happy campers, even with corporate help from McAfee. FInally we had to switch screen names and restart the whole process over as it would not recognize the original screename it was filed under...ain't computers grand? This one is only 2.5 years old and has had a blown circuit board, hard drive {twice}, and monitor replaced over a recent 6 week period. ANd yet again it failed. This is the first time I've had a Dell quit like that on me, that didn't run out of it's "natural" usefull age.

SO, I have missed a lot and have skimmed through to see what is up, so I have probably missed things, so forgive me if I give no credit where credit is due?!?.

ROBBY P. glad to know the wife is at least safe from the accident. Extra prayer candle prayers will be said for her.

TO those who lost loved ones, extra prayer candle prayers will be said.

To those who have {like us} just had a run of bad luck, extra prayers will be said over the prayer candle.

To those who may have joined the group....Sign - Welcome.

My back seems to be getting worse. Now I take oxycontin and percocet {oxycodone}, and a muscle relaxer to deal with the pain and agravation.I also take 18 other medications as well for various maladies. I have Degenerative Disc Disorder {DDD} AND have scared tissue in my lower back refered to as "tissue necrosis". That is scary as "necrotic, necrosis" refer to "dead tissue". I have been refered to a Neurosurgeon, who may also refer me to a pain management specialist. My Dr. said no matter whom he refers me to first, they will most likely refer me to the other as well. All I know is that I can't stand very long, and then the pain feels like my muscles are being ripped from my bones, and then starts stabbing at me in my lower back. Since I am on SSD already for other various health maladies, I don't have to work, and thankfully I dont, cuz I can't stand long, and I am finding sitting to be uncomfy as well. Only taking the muscle relaxer on top of the pain pills will let me sleep for awhile.

I try to keep up the housework but am falling dreadfully behind do to pain whilest doing it. My other half understands, but it is hard to come home after a hard long day at work to find me in agony and unable to do the basic household chores, Which, naturally, creates some animosity towards me and my present conditions. Does anybody actually read all this stuff I have written?

This summer I hope to clean out the trailer and have a garage sale- which at this point with my back is more like a "ha ha" {unless some kind soul would like to help me out and come help??!!} I doubt that the way my back is acting and spasming that that will happen.

Jeffrey W. hope all is coming along for you nicely, you are always in the prayercandle prayers, as I can appreciate what kind of position you are in, though don't know exactly what you are going through, as I am in such a pickle myself that I think you can appreciate, though may not feel exactly.

At this point, not finding my layout amidst teh "shtuff" and playing with the trains, I have become an "armchair modeler", but also a TRAINS mag afficianado. I really find that I enjoy reading about real trains than reading Model Railroader. Fortunately, my other half is also into TRAINS mag as well, and is also an "armchair modeler" except for the xmas layout. I am truly lucky that our summer vacation will be spent at Strasburg RR in Lancaster, PA. where the steam trains "run wild, often and daily" and that we will frequent Steamtown in SCanton PA soon. That is assuming I can stand/sit and tolerate it while there. Again, does anybody read this stuff like I do?

Well, to anyone I have missed, failed to acknowlege or anybody who needs special prayers and thoughts, to those who have missed me....{are there any?} I say hello and send best wishes...

Have a great night guys....

 Good evening,

GALAXY, ULRICH, JEFF, and anyone/everyone else ailing, recovering, or otherwise "just not quite right" tonight...here's hoping relief finds you! And yes GALAXY, I read it all...I don't always comment on everything...there's just too darn much THAT goes on in here in just a typical day. I feel for you though, and anybody else in here dealing with difficulties, whatever the cause.

JIM: Glad you made it back in! I thought maybe you went to visit a client and was mistaken AS the client...Whistling Yes Pally, it's only 10 pieces of lumber and three metal shelf brackets THAT were assembled/installed in the RR room...but THAT is the benchwork for the North wall...and the most significant progress in 5 years. Continued "improving" to the paint w**k (from 5 years ago) continues as well.

I need some opinionated opinions...and where better to find some than the Diner? The RR room has two windows. I've realized THAT the sun blasting in has significantly faded the paint I applied five years ago. Photos on the walls have also been affected. IF I could find a very light blue vinyl blinds, I'd put them in and be done with it.  All I see in the stores though are white or some variation. Would vinyl (plastic) blinds take interior paint? I don't really want to plate over the windows with plywood...it is nice being able to open the East window for a breeze/ventilation/fresh air from time to time!  What have you guys done about windows in your empires??? Obviously, the basement dwellers might not have had much of an issue with this.

Ideas anyone?

TODD: You might not have to bale your yard. We're expecting 20-30 mph winds tomorrow...with gusts up to 40. I'm not THAT far west of you...so you're likely in line for them too. Why rake/bale when the wind can redistribute so efficiently? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Speaking of yards, Loving Wife somehow managed to get the spark plug boot to stay put...and mowed the 3/4 I wasn't able to get to the other day. Thumbs Up I tried crimping it on with a flatblade and pliers. She used no tools THAT I'm aware of. Hmmmmmmmmm. Wifely magic?

With THAT it's time to head back to w**k. I'm trying to crank-out some content for THAT so I have less to deal with tomorrow/tomorrow night. I may have had some content fall into my lap. A hometown boy who is running for congress sent out a press release this evening. He's backing out of some forum due to disparaging remarks made against members of the military by some members of the host organization. Since the event he's boycotting is tomorrow, we deadline Friday, and the paper comes out Wednesday...there would be no point in running the press release. BUT, if I can get the whole "who, what, why" jazz...it could make an interesting article showing the voters of the 2nd District a little insight into the man.

Personally though, I think he should go to the forum and use the offending comments as a "teachable moment."

Have a good 'un, best wishes to all in need.

Hmmmmm. How warped is this? On my iTunes currently, is a recording of a CNW SD40-2 going from idle to "highball" in run 8. Hey, it's music to me!  www.CNWdieselshop.com if you wanna listen too.
