Good evening all!!....Been awhile since I checked in..The physical therapy from my shoulder surgery takes a lot out of my arm..I will take 2 white hots and the side of mac salad and salt potatoes...and an ice cold orange crush in a frosted mug please. I know..some of you might ask what the heck salt potatoes are...Ray you have to know what I am talking about. Nice little potatoes boiled in super salty water...served with lots of melted butter...perfect for dunking!!..I know some parts of he country have no clue what they are. One of the more famous places here for clambakes Hinerwadels will actually mail 5lb bags of them out anywhere in the country as people that have moved out of state still need their local fix. Spring has truly sprung here in Syracuse N.Y as the ice cream stands are in full swing and my daughters softball team I coach is in full practice mode. Last year was funny when I coached them as the team sponsor was a funeral home and the team shirts were yellow...the kids kept calling me Buttermaker..(Bad news bears for you movie buffs). The modeling on my own layout has slowed down to it's summer pace. I spend most of my time going to friends houses for weekly operating sessions. I have been making Supertrees by the hundreds and working on superdetailing existing building in preparation for the end of summer when I will have time to "crank it back up" in the basement and have many things ready to go. I also have been thinking about doing some major track renovations since going to all of these operating sessions has spawned new ideas for some industries as I have found out that I really enjoy doing switchlists instead of just continuous run. I have also found out that I could really use more yards or add longer tail tracks to my existing ones. Everyone have a great evening as I am enjoying having the windows open and having a well deserved cold beer..( I made some homemade beer in a kit I got for Xmas)...pretty good stuff!!  Talking about modeling seriously makes me want to feel "ill" tomorrow and play with trains..or at least go downstairs and stare at it. Take care!!!....Tim

EDIT...Looks like I got the top...Salt potatoes and ice cream for everyone!!!

A true friend will not bail you out of jail...he will be sitting next to you saying "that was friggin awesome dude!" Tim...Modeling the NYC...is there any other?

2.30 am and I am up again. I am doggone tired but just cannot sleep.

Flo, may I have some coffee, please? Will that help to put me to sleep again?

Tim - salt potatoes are quite known here - serve them with meat, gravy and some veggies and you have your regular Sunday dinner in Germany for generations.

Trying to catch some more sleep SighZzzZzzZzz

Good Evening Diners!

Great to see you back in here Barry. I can imagine that what you just went through was a little on the frightening side but hopefully you will be feeling better soon. Diabetes is a rough condition to have and although I don't have it I have given many thousands of insulin injections to our little Westie who had it and managed quite well for many years. Even for a dog strict diet control and monitoring makes all the difference.

Well had an exciting evening attending what was billed as a 'Community Consultation' for the new stadium that is to be built at the U of M about a mile from where I live. It was really a dog and pony show as construction is supposed to start next month. In truth there was very little "consultation" with the local community especially as the U is now basically in a residential area. At least our local counsellor now knows how the nearby residents feel especially about traffic, noise and parking. Another reason to move to the "Island" in a few years.

We continue to have warm, dry weather here. If our grass is to even turn green I will have to use the sprinkler but at least I have nearly finished all the yard clean-up. I might even get the goldfish into the pond this weekend.

Not much progress on the harbour addition to the layout but it is getting closer. I might even have it done by, well, summer, no make that fall, or for sure winter. There, who needs deadlines. I did pick up a little kit by Osborne for a wood 16' runabout.

Oh and just to belabour the Nevr-Dull discussion, I have used it on the stainless steel pulpits ( nautical for bow and stern railings) on that sailboat I had. It does a great job of removing grunge but it does leave an oily residue that you had to wipe off. Not sure if that would be very good for track. I have also used Flitz and it is really a great product but I haven't seen it here for some time.

See you soon,

CN Charlie

 Evenin' folks!

Janie just a cup of decafe for....  Oooooo!  I see Tim brought in some fresh Salt Potatoes....  Oh, yummie!  I'll have to make a double serving of them my late night snack!

Thanks Tim!  I love salt potatoes.  Actually made some for supper a couple of nights ago.  Gooo-ood!

I finally wrote a scrip using the "presenters tools" in PowerPoint for the first of the 2 photography mini clinics.  I now have it start to finish in about 16 minutes.  THAT is within the limit we can handle.  Started work on the second part which will be editing the photos using Photoshop (or any other basic editing software).  Not that Photoshop is a "Basic" editing program........  I'll just be using those tools most photo editing software would provide.  It will end with a short PowerPoint slide show showing various different versions of basically the same photo and will end with the one with the smoke.  Then I have to write the handout which will contain more detailed info.  Gonna be a busy week.  The meet is on May First.

Manét has just decided he wants to sit on my shoulder and be petted, so I guess it is time to say Goodnight.  See you all tomorrow!

 Good evening... just a RBF.

Split-shift busy day today... covered "Careers on Wheels" at an elementary, then a creek clean-up at a jr. high. Back home to try and process the stuff...ended up with a good nap! Then, back for a school board meeting. On the way home, one of North Liberty's Finest pulled me over. Wasn't speeding...just had a headlight out. Huh...really didn't know. The one good light was bright enough, I really had no idea. Fortunately, it was the same officer I was talking with this morning at the careers deal! No ticket, no written warning, just letting me know.Thumbs Up

So, rolling through Solon, I see a Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy on the side of the road. He just flashed his lights at me as I rolled by with a friendly "yes Mr. Deputy Sir...I know, I know...the headlight" wave.

I get home to Clarence...and as I'm about to turn onto my street, I see two red stars on the license plate of the oncoming car. STATE TROOPER. He didn't do anything, but I got to thinking about how normally, I almost never see any LEO's on this route, which I drive quite frequently. The one time I get a light out...I encounter: city, county, and state! I almost wonder if God Himself wasn't next in line?!?!?!?

Then again, the Wife got pulled over three times in one night during one of her almost routine "light out" events. Her 2000 New Beetle eats headlights like a kid eating Skittles! The best part was getting pulled less than a minute after the 2nd stop! Cedar County was doing a fundraiser...I mean, a "special enforcement" on Highway 30. The 3rd stop resulted in a laughing deputy walking up to the car and asking, "did you just get pulled over?" She replies "Yep, about a minute ago..." "Have a good night!" he said as he turned around and went back to his car.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo 'nother project for tomorrow. I think I've got a spare in the truck, and IF I remember right...it's an easy change-out.  If I don't...welp, it'll be NAPA in Tipton on my way to a track meet in West Branch.

Have a good night, and an even better tomorrow!

good evening

Salt potatoes I knew. Now White Hots, that's a different story. Anything like Red hots? or what we (midwesterners) call Hot dogs?

Thinkgs went well tonight until my buddy stopped in to inform me (more like rub in) that he has just recieved a case of Pearl beer from a visiting friend. Now my favorite is Lone Star but I also enjoy Pearl. It's getting harder and harder to find, even in the motherland. Shame. Good stuff. The imports like Miller and Bud are taking over.

Today, I tried out the sample of WS Plaster cloth. I might like it though I couldn't get all the holes covered. The paper towels didn't take the PoP so I think I will use the Plaster clothe as a base and finish with PoP. Might just work out better. H.L sells the stuff and when they do the 40% off coupons, I may just use the plastercloth as a base and finish with PoP or maybe hydrocal depending on the amount of area I need to cover. WOW, I forgot how fast PoP sets up. I see what Ray means if you have any amount to use. Hydrocal stays soft much longer.

Prayers for those in need.

Good morning,

Tim, my favorite potatoes are the new potatoes cooked with garlic salt and butter in a cast iron pan, or the camp fire potatoes cooked in tin foil with butter, salt, pepper, onions, and peppers.  Salt potatoes are a must, and served in my house often.  Must come from the Mann and Himes side of my family….

Flitz is better than never dull, if you want a dull section of aluminum or brass to shine like chrome use flits and a high speed polishing wheel.

Night before last Dorothy and I made 100 WS trees for the club layout, last night I installed 50 of them in the orchard.  Next week I’ll install some fruit on them and finish working on the details for the orchard.

Good Morning

We be seeing lotsa sun but it is 0C out there right now-----BrrrrrWhistling Goin to be a pleasant 15C todayBig Smile

I seem to be needing some more trees myself again. The valley that I'm building the trestle bridge bridge for has a large area that has to be just covered in them---and do you think I have enough trees? NooooooWhistling The other challenge will be to do the trestle as a sort of, kind of half covered trestle. Some of the bents reappearing from under the overgrowth I guessWhistling

Good Morning All,

64F and cloudy this morning with rain predicted. Off to Shannonville Ont. today for training. One of the things I've been doing is tech inspection for the various sanctioning bodies we run with mostly to help the open wheel racers (Monoposto Racing). The CASC has a program that can allow me to tale a test at the end and get a scrutineering license through the FIA (the international sanctioning body) and that will make me legal just about anywhere. Tech inspection is sort of a perfunctory check to see if safety equipment is present and in good order and there are no glaring problems with the car or driviers gear.

On this automotive subject, lets discuss polish. Neverdull and Brasso before it was good for belt buckles and cymbals. Both leave an oily residue which worked well to keep the object shiny in salty environs. Probably not too good for track that isn't level.

Mothers mag polish works ok, Simichrome works ok but it is difficult to get all the residue off. We favor Blue Magic or Autosolve for a good paste type polish that buffs off. Frequently pitting in the surface of the metal leaves little black spots that flour on a cloth will buff/leach out but that shouldn't be an issue on N/S rail. Our favorite stuff is available mailorder only and is Nuvite (made in Brooklyn, N.Y.) It is an aircraft polish and is available in several grades for painted or bare metal aircraft. For small jobs, the Autosolve is my favorite - available in tubes at many autoparts stores.

We will ignore most of the truck/fleet wheel/tank polishes as they are designed to be machine buffed and water rinsed. Not too practical for a layout.

(my credentials) all aluminum alloy Lotus 7 series 1 - we take care of several of these as well as a Lotus 11 with all alloy bodywork.

Time to skedaddle and pick up tools. CUL, J.R.

 Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with NYS Maple Syrup along with my cup of dark roast coffee.

Currently 43°F under cloudy skies this morning here in the Finger Lakes.  Might get up into the mid 50s later today.  We also have a frost advisory for tonight.

J. R. love the Lotus!  Way back when, I toyed with buying a Formula V car, but there was no way my wife and my lack of money would have allowed THAT to happen. Sad

White Hots!  Ah yes, my favorite!  White Hots are hot dogs made from pork basically.  They are a New England thing and are seldom found in other parts of the country.  I know several people who when the visit this area pack a cooler to take several pounds of them back home.  My SIL from California has done this many times.  The "regular" hot dogs are called Red Hots around here.  They just don't compare!

I have loads of things THAT have to get done and deadlines are approaching so, I better get moving.  Later!

Good morning. It's 59 and mostly cloudy. It will be mostly sunny. Highs will be in the lower 80s

There's not much going on today that I know of. What others have on their agenda to effect my day remains to be seen. Being that I'm feeling somewhat better today I may weather a tank car or two.

"Coffee please"  .. "And keep it coming!"  " I need ambiton.. 3 cups worth"

Good morning all~!  Sunny.. cold.. rained last night.. yesterday.. cold / windy.. cloudy.. then sunny.. but wind.. cold wind.. coming right off the ocean.. the kind of dampness that creeps into your clothes.. and joints and sucks the dryness and warth right out of ya.

JR.. Thank you for the update on polish and wax.  I do use Mothers polish/wax.. seems better than most.... but looking for a better chrome polish.  That AutoSolve polish.. you mentioned.. I'm gonna be looking for that.  Thanks.

Jerry.. ah thank you for the compliments on my buildings.. but I really .. REEALy like yours.  This deserves more than a second look.

Now Jerry.. looking at the measurements.. I'd swear up and down.. this is N Scale.

The detail is fantastic.  Care to fill us in on some small stuff.. like the decals.. the brick paiting...

come on Jerry.. spill your guts on us. .. How'd you go about picking green for doors.. (looks good) and the 'Belly Board' Trim with yellow trim colors.. and lettering.. Jerry.. I really want to know.  For this being N scale.. I know its hard to get the detail  I am impressed.  I may want to go out and build on myself.

Jeff.. always nice pics.. yesterday was a nice one.  I keep wondering how many 'Consists' do you have.?

Thanks for the update.. and dog gone it.. I just wish this would all be over with. I admire you for your strength of being Jeff.

Todd.. I keep wondering whats going on with the rocks. Now I know.. you know I'm just itching to get my hands in on this.. lol.  I keep waiting.. for anything.    I even wonder what kind of paints you use.  In fact I'm itching to just paint a small rock face with using Craft paints in the various colors that you presented in a pic.

More than likely I'd rather being doing anything but work on my layout.  I'm the type of a person.. that hits an 'impass' and stops.. I'll go work on something else.. until I find a solution to the last problem.  Or just take a nap or sleep on it.. hopefully the answer is working with the sub conscience and I'll have a solution in the morning.

But on a personal note Todd.. I believe I could pour a casting .. paint it in Craft colors all in one hour and have it posted in 90 minutes total...  ah.. its just me~.. .lol  But hey fill me in with your rock project.

I'm going back to look at my so-called Ampitheather.  I want to have some  action.. like oh.. others.. I've seen Jerry's pics.. he's got men working on a car.. someone wadding in a pond.. I want action.  Therefore, the Ampitheather .. with actors on stage.. could help pick up my town.  Maybe later I show some pics.  Even the sidewalk painting and cutting.. well I haven't done that yet.. seems a bit hard too.  I've done some practice paiting of sidewalks.. with the cuts (concrete scored lines) in the sidwalks and curbs.  Seems I just don't have the strength to cut and paint.  lol.  MORE COFFEE Please~

Just throwing in my two cents on the polishing topic. Never Dull was a great product for chrome back when auto's were loaded with it. Comprised of cotton wadding saturated with somekind of oily product. It did leave slick residue as I recall. Fritz is a new one on me.Never heard of it. But back in the sixties, a very popular product for cleaning brass among US Army troops was a product called a Blitz Cloth. Came in a little blue box and lasted a long time. I thought Lee would remember it for sure as it was in every PX or Commisary I was ever in. I'm not sure I would want to use either on track as both left a lot of residue.

Good afternoon.  Seems like we have some rain around.

Took the wife to get a MCI on her knee yesterday.  So........I thought I would train hunt since she was going to be near some tracks.  All I got was a auto-rack, and a trailer-train.  Not much to take, photo wise.

Jerry......Good looking tree!!   I love the tire.

 JR.......Good looking car.

Jeff.....40 engines?   I only have two Blindfold.

Hope everybody has a good afternoon.

Todd, I think you’ll find the “Magic Wadding” will get snagged and leave baby magic wadding here and there.

Ooo. Never thought of that.

Good morn...er afternoon. Having a late lunch. Been working on Brenda's car all morning trying to get it to do what she says it does. Idles high, idles low, doesn't shift except in Auto-Stick. Dies. Runs fine for me. Codes said TPS but cleared them, checked the sensor and it's ok just a bit weak on the high side and drove the thing like Barney Oldield late for supper and runs fine. Probably a loose nut behind the wheel.Whistling

Keith- Just been too busy to get to more coloring. I need to add some surrounding hillside and other stuff before I get coloring the big rock faces so the coloration is even. I did lay some plaster cloth but need to add some more plaster to it. You can see the supporting cardboard strips. Well, not "see" but your can see where they are. No biggy it's Gonna be mainly grass and brush covered, maybe an exposed rock or two. The paints I use are the craft paints from Wal-Mart if the color is right. Can't think of the name right now, but they're the acrylic pigments for about a buck a bottle. Wait, I'll go downsatirs and look. They came recommended by ole Jeff. Ah, Folk Art. I've used WS earth tones and other than the color, I see no real big difference in the end result except for the cost and convinience of getting them. Yet. They don't have ALL the colors you may need. For those I used WS Earth Tones. Be careful when you grab one, sometimes the sparkly ones get mixed with the non- sparkly ones.

Tom- You're right on the residue, it takes some rubbing to get it off the metal but it will come off. I don't know to what extent thugh nor how it would affect the train wheels as it travels across it many times. Like Lee said though it probably would get snagged on tiny things and joints and leave yet something else to dig out of the locos. I suppose if you had a smaller layout with the track exposed and some time, it would work as well maybe. For most things I like it very well and, despite what I just said, I'll bet I try to use it on the layout. Let you know how that works out.

Have a Great Day!!!! (or at least what's left of it.)

re rock coloring: Spotted today on the way back from Essex. A cut through rock that was gray, then black, then light brown, then dark brown, then back to gray all abutting each other and stacked in bands on the diagonal probably at 40/50ft intervals with whitish highlights. It's not in a good place to shoot but I'll see what I can do one of these days. In other words, for New England at least it looks like anything goes!  J.R.

Evenin' folks!

Flo I'll have a cup of decafe and a slice of the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie for my evening snack.

Barry I'd say that Audrey is glad you are still among the living!  Wow... 14 new locos!  Nice ones too!  Those are my 2 favorite diseaseall thingies!

Had a busy day today.  Went to the allergy Doc. early this afternoon.  They took my blood pressure and I have to tell you I am a bit worried about it!  I have never as long as can remember had a reading like I did there today!  It was 118 over 64!  Never, never have I had a reading THAT low at a doctor's office!  In a few weeks I will go see the GP THAT takes care of my other health problems and writes the prescriptions for the BP meds.  There it will be 164/90.  Guaranteed!

Deposited the check for the Trailer I sold, closed out my business account at the credit union transferring all the $$ left in THAT account to my personal savings account.  Checked in with the LHS downtown to see if any items had come for me (they hadn't - maybe tomorrow) and went across the street to the natural food store to get a couple items inculding some excellent dark roast coffee.

Came home and tried to remove the Reese hitch from the truck receiver....... No dice.  have a tired arm from swinging the maul.  Rusted in pretty good, so I will take it to a repair place in Geneva tomorrow where they can apply some heat and more swings of a heavier maul.  Hopefully they can get it loose.  Then I spent another hour on my hands and knees finishing weeding the herb garden.  It is loaded with morning glory and if you don't get it all it comes right back up!  And I might say it is completely impossible to get it all.Grumpy  For the moment it looks good.

W*rked more on the clinics (closest thing to hobby time I will have until the meet is over) and have them almost ready.  Only thing left is to write the hard copy materials to be handed out.  Also have to get the program materials put together and printed for the day.

Tomorrow I will file the "getting rid of the DBA - closing the business" form at the county Clerks office.  This one they do for free.  Of course they charge for the copies you have to have to file with the state. etc........

Have a great evening!

Engines. 8 total. 3 that run well (1 Atlas, 1 B-mann and 1 Spectrum). 1 B-mann that needs some work (4-4-0), 1 old AHM that runs as good as it ever has Laughbut needs to have more pickups added, of which I'm in the process of, to get across the frogs consistantly, 2 TYCO F units of which 1 kinda runs and 1 might run (but I doubt it) and 1 Life Like that is as dead as a hammer.

Morning Glories. Fond memories of my youth walking beans and absolutley despising them. Still don't like them.

Prayers for those in need.

 Good Morning, Everyone!

I just noticed that I missed out a day in the Diner - shame on me! My HD list was kinda short today - just get a little money out of the bank and buy the weekend´s food. It is my son´s birthday today - time for reminiscing. The "little one" is now 23 years old and now heading strongly for his master´s degree in engineering. Petra and I have to realize that  our baby is a grown up man now.Too bad, that he cannot be with us today.

I had some unpaid utility bills out of our old house. Yesterday, a guy called on us and we went to the house to read the meters. It seems, as if there is no debt left, as there was no consumption during the last half year.  Foreclosure will now be next week - Petra and I will be glad, when this is behind us, no matter, what the result will be.

I hope I will be able to start on the benchwork construction this weekend. I am a little dependent on my friend´s availability - he has a station wagon we need for hauling the plywood from the lumberyard.  There are still some issues to be solved on the construction. I tend to build my benchwork too heavy and too strong. Big Smile

Talking of engines - I have three:

1 Marklin class E 94 - for reasons of nostalgia, it is a gift from Petra

1 Stewart F-7

1 Heljan class 26 BR Diesel.

Not much of a roster, there iused to be a time when this list was much longer Sad

Flo, I´ll just have a mug of coffee , please. I´ll stay at the RC, watching who will come by and join me.

Have a good one!

Good morning.  Its nice and sunny, but that will change this weekend.

Well I'm off to work in a hour or so.  That's pretty much my plan today.  Hopefully this weekend I can get some stuff done on the layout.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

Robby P.
Its nice and sunny, but that will change this weekend.

Already changed here. Gloomy, drizzly with chance of Tstorms this afternoon and eve.

Good Morning. I must piddle around and pick up a few things I brought back from mom's that I put in the garage. Gotta get my truck in to change the oil and stuff. also to get Brenda's car back in. I have some 1"X4"'s to wipe down and two sheets of paneling to cut into 6" strips and paint black or brown for facia, before taking downstairs to store until I add to my benchwork.

It doesn't look like I'll have much of an opportunity to mow til at least Monday, so that means I will need a baler again once the rain stops and the grass dries. And I thought this year I could stay ahead of it.

Maybe I'll mix up some plaster and add to the hillside before I get started on my day. Maybe I'll just...sing.......(Vinnie bursts through the door)  STOP THAT! STOP THAT! There'll be no singing while I'm here!

Have a Great Day!!!

   "Good Morning Diners~"

  "Coffee of course"

Whew.. 6 AM or so.. yesterday was cold and windy.. spring might have sprung.. but the winter still holds the trump cards at night.

Well yesterday.... I .. ah.. well.. I didn't get that much done.  Painting.. ah schucks who wants to talk about painting..  not me~  I did plenty yesterday.  Little items.  Yuk.  BTW.. hospital scizzors.. extremely nice and useful.

This is going to be the 'Old Entry gate' to my Ampitheater.  Ulrich wanted pics.. well here ya go.

I'm kind of ashamed of my poor attempts of an Ampitheather. Something new.. and well, my best shot at one.  I'm hoping that the railing I put on it.. might help.

I'll even follow up with a pic of my Ampitheater after a few 'touch ups'  in a few hours from now.

My agenda for today shall be .. the kitchen floor.. sweep and mop.. / mow the lawn and edge.. if I have anymore time.. it will be used for the layout.

Avatar.. is out.. if you haven't bought it.

http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/t/172856.aspx  is a nice topic if you haven't seen it.  Trains 40's / 50's

RAy.. I think that B/P of yours is  fine.. in fact.. fantastic. Considering most patients B/P's are elevated when they do see the M.D.   Keep up informed on the B/P M.D. visit next week.

Ulrich, .. Keith and Jeanne know that feeling.. its always wonderful to see your kids.. when they come to visit.  One reason I hardly post on the weekends. Its the only time we see our kids.

I still can't believe we've raised 3 kids.  Makes my head spin.  (27, 25, and a 22)  Sounds like Lotto numbers.

I don't know why.. but I thought I'd share with you guys.. my friend.

Go ahead and say she's ugly.  Say it.. "She's so ugly she'd make a train wanna take a dirt road"  .. but she's my friend.   She loves me so much.. she follows me all the day.. everywhere I go.

When my daughter brought her home.. she was just alittle over a year.. according to the Vet.  Of course I went through the roof.. when I found out we had a pitbull.  OMG.. we'll have an attack animal.  Far from the case.

When I first petted her.. for a long time.. she would 'grimmace' or 'flinch' everytime you would go to pet her head.  Now she knows I'd never lay a hand on her.. love her always.. without any conditions.  Yes un-conditional love.  I wonder what home she was in?  Did they really let her go.. and get lost.  Was she bred for her color.. and then tossed aside.   Did she come from a home.. where singin took place.  I walk around the house singing.. and this dog just loves to dance and just have fun.

She came with some strange.. habits.  She never comes into a room.. without asking.  She'll sit at the doorway.. and with a small 'whine' she's asking.  She'll even come to me.. and ask if she can have the cats' food.

  Ok..

bye.
