You took the words right off my Keyboard. There are a lot of master here, may not have the plaque but sure have the talent! These are pictures from this site of are members layouts, all look like they should they should be published.

Unfortunately it took 6 pages for reality to appear. Cool

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion too quickly, guys. Let's be honest and objective here. We see, what,  pictures from less than say two dozen individuals (and virtually always the same ones week to week) with master-level layouts in the course of a given month? Considering the size of the MR forum's membership, that could be taken to suggest there is about 1 "master" modeler in evidence here for every 2,500 more average or newbie hobbyists on this site. That's a vanishingly small presence if you ask me. Do you really believe that's the typical ratio across the hobby itself? I sure hope not! There certainly are a number of more advanced sites around the Internet where the ratio is closer to 1:10 !

Sir Madog

... and they keep it amongst themselves, only the adept shall know... The illuminati of model railroading?

What the heck did the NMRA think, when they created that nonsense of "master model railroader"

It´s the work that honors the maker, not the title!

Sign - Oops

knock, knock - it´s me again - is there room for me to correct my above statement?

I took the time to read through NMRA´s pages on their AP and I really have to admit, that it is a wonderful idea to have.

I was prejudiced, as I have grown a bit weary of badges and titles, but this is more a local, cultural issue here in Germany.

Apology accepted?

...I was prejudiced, as I have grown a bit weary of badges and titles, but this is more a local, cultural issue here in Germany..

We have even had that side of the argument expressed here in recent times, Ulrich.  I made the observation a few years ago that the youth of today, not always, but as a rule, do not respond particularly well to organized activity and to groups with formal rules on behaviour.  Clubs have fallen out of favour for a lage segment of today's youth, and that is why we see youth groups and more adult organizations finding their populations both decreasing and getting older.

I don't mean to paint all youth with a broad brush...I am saying that in recent years, say the past two decades, youth prefer informal relationships and less commitment to organizations.  Of course there are numerous exceptions because many such places do have young members...thank goodness.

I am happy to take your apology, except that I don't think you are far off the mark with your statement above.  But I am just as happy to learn that you have an open and inquiring mind willing to take another look at things.  Cool Thumbs Up

I'm a legend in my own mind does that count?

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?

I was being honest and objective, of the 2500 members you state, how many are posting on the MRR forums as opposed to Garden, Trains and Classic, and of the members left here, how many are regular posters? To tell you the truth I don't come here expecting the "Masters" (how to know whom is whom?)to post here with any regularity. I come here to see what other MRR's are doing, look at the modeling, maybe to research a problem I may be having, I don't think I require a "Master" to tell me how to program a decoder, or to give me an opinion on a locomotice's running qualitys. Regular MRR's can answer my questions as easy as anyone else. I guess what I'm failing to say ia I don't rate this board based on the number of Master modelers here. For more in-depth information on a prototype, a technique or a modeling style, I will go to a forum or website that specialized in that niche, period.

What's the worry again?
