The only piece I chromed was the drop visor. All of the other pieces were factory done.

The drop visor was bent out of a piece of strip brass to my liking, then wrapped with MonoKote. (I picked that up at Hobbytown USA.)

I just got back from a great vacation.  I missed a lot of great stuff you guys did, but I got a lot done.  I'll post most of the progress on my thread in my signature below.

Here's just a quick taste of what got done.

A weathered warehouse.
From this...

To this.

A weathered warren truss bridge and city viaduct installed.

And a lot of cardboard terrain and the fascia installed.

This was my temporary workbench during the vacation.  NOTE: the ice cold beer (usually not present on the bench at home), and also this was only a 1/2 block from the beach at the Jersey shore... with beautiful weather 95% of the time.

Now that's a vaction...AAAaaahhh.:D

I'll have a lot of videos and pix in my progress thread.

Keep the axels greased and the tender full, we're rollin' now.

Great pictures of some great work.  Thanks to you all for sharing.

I've got a couple of items for you all:

A few weeks ago I completed this pumphouse:Photobucket

I posted the picture and asked if it would be appropriate to place it next to a water tower.  I was told that it's an oil derrik, and that it doesn't belong next to a water tower.  Since then I've done some railfanning, and look what I found along the UP line in Bliss Idaho:

Photobucket

I guess my pump house will go next to the water tower after all.

My project from a couple of weeks ago is another boxcar, this one is for the Stave Brothers Cooperage (Barrel company) in Blackwater, Oregon.  It was a craftsman kit (wood and metal) and it was designed to be 40'.  I cut it down to 36':

Photobucket

A few weeks ago I bought a Nikon Coolpix 4600 on eBay (used for $50).  The boxcar picture was taken with that camera; it seems to do OK.

Again no pics from me.  My wife had the camera all week.  But between flights and house projects I did manage to tear apart an old white metal caboose kit strip it and rebuild it.  It now wears the paint of my m.o.w. equipement.  I also redid an old varney short coupala caboose.(that is the ony way I know how to describe it.  It's upper lookout is squatier than a regular caboose.) This got a ruddy brown color applied to it and will be the caboose for the Pine River Falls Historical Society.  It was clear coated with krylon crystal clear gloss.  It looks rater good if I do say so myself. I also drilled out the frame of an atlas rs, that I won on ebay, to accept the body from my roundhouse rs that I had laying around.  I got the trucks and gears with it to and now I am trying to decide if I want to power it or leave it as a dummy engine.  My birthday was last week and my wife bought some woodland scienics decidious trees and some apple trees.  Even though we really didn't have the money for that but she knew it would be  a great present.  Gotta love her.  I also numbered all my fleet of engines that were at that point of togetherness and also did a couple of cabeese that were ready for it as well.

Great photos all!

I've finally gotten around to filming a new video tour of my layout to replace the old one. I still have the footage from the origanal on my hard drive, even if I deleted the origanal from YouTube. I plan on making a video for the WRS' 5th anniversary in November 2009 which will show each town twice, once in the old, then in the new.

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

Enjoyed the tour Ty

nicely done !

two things that could help

leave the first credit up just a bit longer for slow readers like me

any thing you could do to steady the camera would really help

and i know from my own experience that's not easy

otherwise great video

looking forward to more progress updates !

I used to do better than that before I became disabled. Now I'm learning how to make my disabilities work for me instead of against me. I'm getting better.

Thanks Terry! This tour wasn't really designed to be a work of art, more a "filler" video tour until I can devote the time to creating the final version. It was pretty late at night (around 10:00) and I was in a hurry, as I had just removed the old tour from my video hosting site. I will play around with making the credits slower, and definetely taking my time with the camera.

I have plenty of time now, so I think I'll head downstairs and work on a better version.

Well no matter, your stuff is looking better and better.  Keep up the good work

Got the tailing trestle installed and scenicked at the Champion Mine.  This is 'debris' from the initial ore crush, that's why it's so high on the mine building.  It's just dumped and hauled away by truck.  Makes pretty good ballast, BTW.

The loco running 'light' behind the trestle is a Southern Pacific MT-3. w/o the 'Skyline' casing.  It's an old Max Gray KTM loco that right now sounds like a coffee-grinder, but hauls like a horse.  It's next on the list for a trip to the LHS for a new NWSL can.  The loco ALONE weighs about 5lbs.

I like it.  And someone who covers their hills with as many trees as I do!  I passed the 400  tree mark today and a have a backache to prove it.

I also like the individual towns.

Spent some time around the hagerstown train depot with landon, my 3 year old today.  Lots of trains and even got wave from the CSX engineer.

Great picture. To my untrained eye, it seems very well balanced between foreground and the sky above the low mountains in the background. I think that you should consider letting her do all your photography work.A big pat on the back to your missus and thanks to you for posting it.

Blue Flamer.

Many thanks for your kind words.....point and shoot has it's advantages.  And my wife likes having a fan club....

cwclark:  Nice work!  Agreeably industrial but not overdone...very intriguing scene.

The photo of your son reminds me of a funny escapade that my son pulled when he was 5 or 6.  We were chasing a steam fan trip on the BN in the St. Louis area and were waiting at a grade crossing for the Frisco 1522 to show up.  A BN company truck pulled out and an official-looking gentleman in a shirt and tie got out and started walking between the rails on an industrial siding.  My son, who's been cautioned about walking between the rails, yelled at the guy to get out of the way because a train was coming soon.  The official stopped and turned, looked at me and asked, "Is he yours?".  I said yes and apologized for my son's tone of voice.  The official said that no apology was needed, apologized to my son for violating his own safety rules and thanked me for teaching him to be safe around the railroad.  I should have taught him how to politely ask for a cab ride, too.....
