I painted the REA building and added windows & doors:

ROBERT PETRICK michaelrose55 The next structure on top of the station will become the railway post office building: Hey Michael- When you say the structures on top of the station are on top of the station (that seems pretty clear), do you mean they are on top of the station for now? Kinda staged there? Just to keep them together? For photos? Or, are they on top of the station because that's where they'll be permanently placed? Robert PS Still looking good, by the way.

Robert,
they will be placed exactly where they are now (and I don't care whether that's prototypical ). I'm glad you like the way it looks!

A first attempt at painting the roof:
I'm done roofing, my back hurts...
I've glued shingles on one side of the roof:
Just to show you how small the shingles really are:
I have added the roofs and made shingles:
After throwing away three attempts at making a structure this one seems to be acceptable. This will become the ticket office for the Barnesville station.
No river yet but something:
michaelrose55 richhotrain Michael, forgive me if you have provided this information before, but how do you throw the point rails on your turnouts? Rich I will use tortoise switch machines.

As I seem to be unable to come up with a decent structure right now I'm doing something that doesn't require a lot of creativity. I used some leftover pieces of plywood to create the base for a river that will run next to the main line in this area:
No progress but a nice train showed up in the mail today:
Somehow the passengers have to get to the trains... I made three little sheds that cover the elevators down to the platforms. Was a fun little project for a Sunday. They need a lot of weathering though which they will get at some point.
I finished the front end of the station, this is it for now.
Here's the first freight train on it's way to Barnesville:
Rumbling through the station:

Thank you, I like it very much myself.
The Barnesville station wouldn't be complete without Bonnie's diner on top:
It's all closed up now and the light is on:
After taking a deep breath I glued the station in place. Changes are now impossible...
I've added a few travelers, not too many. I don't like it when a station looks overcrowded.
A few washes of paint and alcohol/india ink later:
I took a short break from work and glued the visible concrete later on top of the platforms:
I just couldn't wait... I had to see how a train would look:
Ballasting is done. Now I have to wait for it to dry...
I used part of my lunch break to seal the platform edges with grey paint. It's fun to work with taskboard but because it is a paper based product it will suck up water like a sponge and swell a little bit. The sealed edges will reduce this effect by a lot.
I filled in all the missing ties and painted the station track in preparation for ballasting:
The platform bases have been installed and I found two old buildings that I used to check out how the scene will look:
