The Breitenbach - Rosenheim Railroad V3
Michael,
I've been lurking on this topic. Thought I'd write and say that I am enjoying following your work and look forward to "the latest".
I confess that my German involvement is limited to the Rheingold, which hasn't been out for a spin in many a year. I'll also confess that your topic is likely to make that happen sooner. But on my railroad, it's a transatlantic visitor. Just as the New Haven Railroad Merchants Limited will be a transcontinental visitor.
I look forward to viewing your progress.

Hey Michael -
Been following your progress for a while. I'm building a new layout and I'm interested in trying Task Board for track bed. I'm a cork man from way back. I model N scale. I think 1/16" would be a better size than the 1/8" cork. Cutting and shaping the board to exact dimensions won't be a problem. I have access to a laser cutter/engraver. Laying and attaching the board to the plywood deck won't be a problem. I'm curious about ballasting. Do you have any close-up photos of finished track sections? Or, can you briefly describe your intended technique for ballasting?
Thanks,
Robert

Robert,
You can look at the build blog of my N scale G&AM railroad, starting here: http://www.gamrailroad.com/build/2013/2013_09_04.html
Hey Michael
Thanks for the link. That is exactly what I was looking for. What thickness is the taskboard you used for the N scale track bed?
I didn't know you were hand-laying track. Your technique takes that style to a whole new level. Great work. On both layouts.
I used a single layer of 1/8" taskboard for N scale (I use 2 layers for H0). Yes, I startded hand-laing track but later switched to Atlas code 55.
Finally! Today I received the track that was ordered in October...
Half of the next station is up:
I needed a break from work because my eyes got tired from staring too much at screens so I decided to work a little bit on the layout (having your workplace next to your hobby room can be a good thing...).
I'm now calling this station and the village that will be built around it 'Wellershausen'.
The Wellershausen station is complete, all that's missing here is the main line ramp to staging.
It's done! The main line subroadbed is complete!
I took a few overview shots just for fun. It starts to look like some kind of railroad...:
I've started to glue down the first layer of roadbed. Here is the Bad Adomeit station:
Glued down roadbed on the ramp to Wellershausen:
The first layer of roadbed is complete, I did it all in one day!
Now I have to fire up the laser again to make the parts for the second layer.
The laser is making parts for the second layer of roadbed:

Besides running the laser all day long to produce more roadbed I started to install track again. I started with one piece of flex track at the north end of the Rosenheim station and then decided to install a group of eight turnouts.
I added some track to the north end of the station:
As this is the tightest visible curve of the main line I tested a train with long passenger cars to see how it looks:
I added the missing track, the station is now complete.
And here's a hot of my tightest curve from the 'ugly' side:
Two more shots with the Swiss TEE testing the new track:
I added a few feet of main line track. Here's the first freight train for a test:
I played some more and took a few pictures of a passenger train on the main line. Because this curve can only be seen from the outside I used a 4m (157 1/2") radius. I think it looks perfect!
Before I can lay more track I have to prepare the Bad Adomeit station. Today I drilled holes for 15 switch machines, installed the second layer of roadbed, and painted/sealed the roadbed with grey paint.
I added the second layer of roadbed to the long tunnel between the Bad Adomeit and the Wellershausen stations, then painted it gray as well.
The westbound track of the main line has reached the Bad Adomeit station:
I finished the eastbound track of the main line today:
I've started to lay track at the Bad Adomeit station:
I've added a few turnouts and a few feet of track at the Bad Adomeit station:
I added some track and several turnouts to the opposite end of the station:
