Good morning all, hope everyone had a great weekend.

Mike, drive careful out there. Welcome to the coffee shop, or Whatever we call it now. Enjoy. The G Thomas sounds cool, wish I new where to find one. Will have to check Evil Bay and see what I can find.

Benny, how is the wife doing ? And you ? Hope all is well with both of you.

TJ biking to church. Now that is cool. Do you wear the pirate garb as you ride ???

Underworld and Capt. Bob, didn't know that the wind we had early in the week made it to you guys this fast. At least I haven't heard about the usual trees blow down that we seem to always have hear. Sorry to send it your way, I just thought it would blow out. [:D]

Jaime, watch out for left over yellow snow.

Take care all

Yup, Tim, you betcha, I'll ride to ANY church with my knee high boots, Jolly Roger and bandanna flying in the breeze. Might be why they put me behind the camera filming the service instead of in front of it? I want to try an eye-patch or a parrot, but in traffic at 70mph, may not be such a good idea, although I do know a guy from New York that rides with a meat hook for a hand, not even a proper prosthetic, a freakin' meat hook. Now that's scary.

Got a chance to cut my grass yesterday, I had fun. It's always fun the first time, come late August when the skeeters are biting and the humidity and temperature are both over 90, may be a different story.

Mike

Hold onto that Thomas set, out of production and there going for big $ on Ebay now.

Otherwise, OMG am I out of it today! Spent Sunday putting down 50lb concrete pavers in the front yard. This is after a 3-mile walk with my wife. Normally that wouldn't be so bad but the time change this morning has really beat me down. I didnt think that one hour would be so rough...going to be a loooong day, and a loooong computer class tonight[xx(]

Hey, Ben! Glad to hear that your missus is improving.

When I say "grass" I more or less mean a few strands of rye, and a patch or two of fescue, but mostly onions, alfalfa, and crab grass. Well, at least it's green..............

I'm stopping on my way home from work today (yes, I'm shamming on company time, it's good to be the King) I have to stop by Southern States and get 5 or 6 bags of chicken grit for my roadbed and Home Depot for some weed matting. I'm glad it's not a pond year for me, I just don't have as much time as I would like to get everything done as it is. Good thing about the time change, now I can work outside much later.

Hey jack, Just do as I do and throw some fertilizer at those weeds. Come August when everybodys good lawns burn out yours will be green and they'll be askin for your secret. Green weeds work just as well as grass!

Tim, the Thomas train rides on Lionel brass G track. The cars are 5 1/2 inches tall, the same size as the Bachman passenger car I had given to me. Came with 4 foot circle of track and power pack. Got it for a great deal! Runs great!
Also happened to find a pair of New Bright cars on ebay the other day to go with the other set of equipment. Now only if the sun will stay out long enough to dry the ground up then we can start planning out the first shovel ceremony once we have all the track, hopefully soon.

Hello all,

the top of our ground is slowly drying out, but it is still very wet underneath. We have friends that are still pumping water out of their ground after flooding. It did hit 88 today.

Got another steamer, will put in pics this Sunday if I get time.

Mike, thanks for the info on Thomas.

Take care all

Been out of it for the last two days...It can be summed up with the phrase..

the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

the Good,

Revised my track plan again, Yes, this is a good thing as the old layout simply didnt work. This time the yard on the south side, flipped the roundhouse and the station locations, extended the track nearest the walkway to create a real passing siding, this will give me a more or less fully point to point operating arrangement on my layout. Got all the track down, just have to fini***he wiring.
Also got my LGB Chloe in the mail today, so thats definetly good![8D]

The bad

One of the neighborhood feral cats had kittens and somehow found a way up under the floorboards to get into the airspace under the bathtub, normally we might never have known about this but sometime after birth the momma cat went AWOL and on Monday night we started hearing crying, constant crying. [V]

the Ugly

So after only getting 2 hours of sleep, Tuesday i got to cut open the walls trying to find the little beggers. My first sawcut (love that Sawsall) missed them, couldnt reach. So after taking down half the closet system I made the second cut, Success! I pulled 3 filthy, emaciated and very sickly looking kittens, dont even look like the momma cleaned them off. No choice, given there condition, had to take them to the Humane Society, theVet told me they were in pretty bad shape and that it was for the best I brought them in. Sad,, so after coming home I got to trying to fill in the holes, when I hear what sound like a very low bird chirp from outside, i listen and realize its not from outside but from under the tub! Oh No, theres another one down there. I did a quick visual search thru the holes and found it on the far side of the tub, luckily a quick cut with the Sawsall and I pulled the worst looking one of the bunch out, I was heartbroken by its appearence and state, it could barely move and could barely cry. after doing my best to care for it, we decided it was hopeless and i took #4 to the pound, the Vet was also pretty shook by it to, she told me it probably had pnuemonia and would have only lasted a few more hours. What a pathetic way to die, starving and filthy. Poor things, we've taken care of other stray kittens but only when they were old enough to walk around and eat on there own, these were far beyond our meager abilities, I ended up taking today off from work also to finish rebuilding the closet, still have some spackling to do but otherwise its a done deal, plugged up the hole under the tub as best I could, walked the house and found where they were getting under the house, blocked that too, so we should be done with this for now. [V]

Vic, my daughter and I found some kids pushing a shopping cart at the supermart parking lot with screaming kittens in the cart. Took them away from the kids, got petco to open after hours and bought some infant kitty milk. Took them back on Sunday after church to the cat people that save cats from the pound. She had a mom that they just gave away her kittens. These 3 that we found took to her. Probably save the kittens lives as they were only 10 days old. Clean though.

Sorry for the bad and the ugly, some challenges suck.

Ben, I think I saw bman on another thread, but it is late and I am tired.

Gas is up, so is the temp, but rain in the forcast.

Need some apple juice for the night, and gonna crash.

Take care all

Unfortunatly the holes are in my wifes closet, and she would be taking me to the pound if I tried putting any track down in there[:0][:p][}:)][;)]

besides my layout is in the garage, seperate from the house, tried to do some work out there last night but with the warm weather we got so many mosquitos and noseeum's out there I got chased away[:0] They are actually going to be doing chopper spraying to try to keep the mosquito population under control, they are real worried about West Nile virus up here.[:0][xx(]

sounds cool, Ben. The bottom droped out of the clouds here today, but I guess a little rain is to be expected in the spring. I won't run anything until I get a little more track down, maybe next week.

I noticed you are from Lebanon, PA. I will be in Kutztown/ Topton from 22-24 April. How far is that from you? Isn't it all in Burks county? Let me know, maybe I can buy you a cup of coffee when I'm up there.

Weather is great here in SW Ontario. Calling for sunshine and decently warm for the next week or so. Time to go and start finding the gardens. And start planning where the new garden railway(s) are going to go. At this stage I think there will be two seperate loops with a storage track going into the house. One loop for the Thomas set and another loop for the New Bright set, which I found a pair of gondola's on ebay the other day.
On a seperate note, how do you post pictures with your messages here? I've only ever attached them to emails. Well if nothing else I can post them on my web site and/or my photo sites for you.
Gas prices climbing here too, approaching and in a few areas over 92 cents/litre. not sure what that works out to in $/gallon but certainly not cheap at all.

Hey Ben! I go up rt13 to the Penn pike, then rt 222 to Kutztown. It's the best way from where I'm at. Well, at least it's the only way I know how to go without getting lost..........

57 miles is very close. I'm sure I can work in a little diversion west for a few hours or so. Email me (look at my bios for the address) and we can finalize some details or exchange cell #s.

Sorry if this post is a little poor, I had a VERY busy and physicaly challenging weekend and I am beat, so I will respond to more stuff later. Take care all!!

Hi all
Well i have managed to get back on and lost my stars for those tha have not seen other post Cath is recovering welland apreaciated as i did the good will from this forum..
How is this for a first well it is for me.
I am actualy in trouble for delaying the aquisition of a locomotive a rather expencive live steamer at that.
The locomotive is named after Cath using Cheena caths nick name as the name of the locomotive.
probably why I am in trouble for delaying the arrival the locomotive is paid for but the extras i asked for are not.

Hi All,

Beautiful weekend. By Sunday all the snow is off the back yard and was able to run the trains for a few hours Sunday.

I just tried updating my profile to show the C&C logo. If I did it right I assume it should end up at the bottom of this post. Wish me luck.
Thank you, Jaime

Good morning all, hope everyone is doing great.

John, glad Cath is doing well, hope you are too. We will keep her in prayer at church for a strong recovery. Good to see you return to the forum.

Hey Jaime, your pic shows on your profile, chipmunk and chicodee (sp) but not on your post. Good to see you here.

Seems quiet in the coffee shop, we need to make some expresso and give everyone a cuppa.

Take care all,

Tim

Tim,

Hi and I hope all is well. Yes I did get the pic in the profile and breifly in my signature but I wanted to get it smaller. Like the size of your signature photo. I also looked at the name Chipmunk and Chickadee and I was not satisfied with the way the text looked. I'll try more later.

Also as you suggested, I have been planning to say hi to everyone along with a short bio about myself and RR (or rail way) but have not found the right words yet. Soon I hope.
Thank you, Jaime

Good morning all, hope today finds everyone doing great. [tup][tup]

Good to hear from you Jaime,

how is your weather way up there on the opposite side of the US ????

When you are ready let us know.

We should be in the 80's again here today, still have wet ground in some places, other places feel like brick. Can't win for losing.

Have a great day all, hope everyone ready for a great day.

Hello,

A brief history:
Lived in Mass and New Hampshire most of my life.
Married 25 + years.
My Father is in Massachusetts USA and In-laws in South West Florida USA (feel like a semi-native from visiting so often).
No children
2 dogs #8211; one 8 pounds the other 80 pounds (the small one is the boss)
Work in high tech industry in computers and data comm.
Bio:
I have enjoyed model RR since Santa brought me an O gage set, probably in the early 1960#8217;s, maybe late 1950#8217;s. Not much happened till I got married where I had a small N layout. As we moved from an apartment to a house I got the HO scale bug. Never quite finished any of the layouts. I have always been interested in garden railroading but did not have the time/space/money. Then for the last 8 or 9 years my Wife and I were bitten by the Karate bug. We traveled locally and sometimes not so locally to go to seminars or visit and workout with others at their Karate schools. We each got black belts in a couple styles and were teaching karate after work sometimes 4 and 5 evenings a week and some Saturdays. Then last January I learned that I would be needing some minor brain surgery (the surgery went very well this past October). Karate suffered and started taking a back seat. Some side effects are a hearing and balance problem. One day we were visiting a hobby shop and saw a #8220;new#8221; 1999 Aristo Xmas set on sale for a price we could not refuse (even if we only used it once a year under the Xmas tree). Last spring we broke ground in the back yard. My Wife is the gardener and I#8217;m the digger. We had a small (20 to 30 foot) kidney shaped loop and thought we were all set #8211; for about a month. Now it is about 90 feet of track with another 90 foot expansion planned later this year or next. We are still using the small power supply that came with the Aristo set. We have engines from Aristo, USA Trains, and Hartland, cars from everyone. Seem to be doing tings in 1:29 scale (did I say that right?). I#8217;m into diesel and my wife likes the Steam era engines. We do not model any specific era or road. Mostly the shorter cars because of our sharp curves. I like the New England lines (B&M, Bangor & Aroostook, Grafton Upton, #8230;) but have mostly equipment from other parts of the country. I had a great uncle that worked on Southern Pacific so I have an engine and cars representing SP. We are still very much beginners in Garden Railroading. Most of what I have learned about the hobby has come from books or trial and error. I find forums like this very helpful and interesting. I notice many people are asking the same questions I was and am wondering about. I hope to give to others based on what I have learned this past year as well as learning from all of you

I hope I have not bored everyone to death. Maybe I should add this to my profile.

Tim,

The weather here is pretty good. Below freezing in the mornings, 40#8217;s and 50#8217;s for highs. We may hit 70 Sunday. Where the ground is not paved or still covered with snow it is mud. Will not be able to mow the grass for 4 to 6 more weeks. Happens every year. Had a little snow earlier in week (not like Denver).
Thank you, Jaime

Jaime, it is great to get to know you. Isn't it funny how the little dog always seems to be the boss of the big one? Sounds like you have had a very interesting life, glad the brain tumor thing came out so well. Did the balance return?

90' and growing, and new trains to boot. Way cool. [#welcome] again Jaime.

Benny, glad you checkin in. We have a R/C dirt track in the field across the street from my church. It is great to watch all the folks over there on weekends. Hope you get yours done, and get to the trains, but spending time with the kid is always fun.

Hope everyone has a terrific day.

Surprise, surprise, surprise, we might get some drizzle today. At least it won't flood.

Take care all,

Hey all

Hellova weekend again...getting tired of everything becoming a soap-opera for me. Friday AM the sewer backed up, bad, whole day with the plumber looking for problem. An auger, a waterjet and a new cleanout later the clog was cleared but also found it was a tree root in the middle of the street, right before it connects to the main sewer line. Dam tree was planted by the city in the cities parkway! Now its gonna need a water cannon and a new pipe liner to fix! Have to find out now what the cities liability is in all this...
