Yeah RustyG, those were the TRUE Roadsters, and that 427, you ever seen one, I mean the NASCAR 427.....

Than there was the SOHC 427, with it's 12/14 inch wide heads setting on top of that FE block, that thing was about 3 foot or so wide, double roller chained timing gears to each of the over-head camshafts, over 600 HP from the factory, I think it was in the 68 500CJ Machs.

Had a friend who used to work for a dealer in Philly, and when ever a 500CJ was in for service he'd go out on the interstate looking for the 427 Vettes an blow'em away.

!!!News Flash!!!  Fisher Price has recalled items made in China, suprise suprise.

Mattel IDs Vendor That Made Recalled Toys

U.S. Toymaker Names Chinese Company That Made 1 Million Toys Recalled Last Week

Mattel Inc. on Tuesday identified the Chinese vendor that made nearly 1 million Fisher-Price toys that were recalled last week because they may contain lead.

Mattel said Lee Der Industrial Company Ltd., located in Guangdong province, made the 967,000 toys sold under the Fisher-Price brand in the United States between May and August.

Last week, El Segundo-based Mattel recalled the plastic preschool toys, including popular Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego characters, because they were made with paint found to have excessive amounts of lead.

Mattel, the world's largest toy maker, apologized to customers for the recall and said the move would cut pretax operating income by $30 million.

Mattel spokeswoman Jules Andres said Tuesday that all the toys that were recalled were made by the one vendor and that the company has "ceased accepting shipments from the facility."

Mattel has shared the name of the vendor with competitors who may also be doing business with the Chinese company, Andres said.

She said she did not know what other toys might have been made at the facility for other companies, but that the company felt it was important for competitors to have the information.

"We do not consider safety to be a competitive advantage," she said.

The Chinese vendor could not immediately be reached for comment. A man at a Lee Der Industrial Company in Guangdong province said it made cardboard boxes, not toys, while a woman who answered the phone at another number listed under the name said that company had gone bankrupt several years ago.

The Fisher-Price recall is the latest in a string of problems involving products imported from China.

In June, RC2 Corp. recalled 1.5 million wooden railroad toys and set parts from its Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway product line because of lead paint. Those toys were also made in China.

Earlier this year, a Chinese-made pet food ingredient was linked to the deaths of cats and dogs in North America. Since then, Chinese goods ranging from toothpaste to tires have been banned or recalled in numerous countries.

For all you digital camera people.  Sony is RECALLING some of their cameras.  Artical from the AP.

Sony Recalls 350,000 Digital Cameras

Sony is recalling 350,000 digital cameras because the case may warp, creating an edge that can cut or scratch the user's hands, the company said Thursday.

The company will replace the bottom casing, where the problem occurs, at no cost.

The recall affects 284,000 Cyber Shot DSC-T5 cameras sold in the United States, Europe and China, and about 66,000 sold in Japan, Sony spokeswoman Ryoko Takagi said.

Sony Corp. first learned of the problem affecting DSC-T5 cameras about one month after the model first went on the market in September 2005, Takagi said. About 30 customers in Japan and "several" others overseas have since reported finding the defect, with a number saying they received small cuts and scratches from it, she said.

Customers are advised to check the model and serial numbers of their cameras to see if they are among the affected products, the company said in a statement. The problem only affects cameras with numbers between 3500001 and 3574100.

U.S. customers can go to Sony's support Web site at for more information or call Sony support at 877-573-7669.http://esupport.sony.com/

That is sad and ....... well just plain sad.

On the more funnier side (for me anyway, but not for you iPhone lovers)

iPhone Gets Hacked

It seems the so-called "Jesus Phone" is not so perfect. According to a security consulting firm, the iPhone can easily be taken control of by hackers, leaving your personal information out in the open.

According to the Maryland-based firm Independent Security Evaluators, hackers can take over an iPhone if a user accesses a Web site designed by the hacker.

For example, an attacker can send an iPhone user an e-mail that says, "'Check this link out. It's great,'" Charles Miller, the firm's principal security analyst, told ABCNEWS.com.

If the user then clicks on the link to the site, the person controlling the site can access anything on the user's iPhone, including text messages, e-mails, phone numbers and address books. In other words, hackers can access "stuff you don't want people to know about," Miller said.

If hackers connect the server to a computer, as the security firm did, then they can download all of the information.

"People put all sorts of information on it. It's important that they work properly," Miller said of the phone. "That was our main motivation. We want to make sure we can feel safe and comfortable carrying them around."

Potentially, the method can also be used to send text messages and dial calls from the phone, although Miller said that Security Evaluators did not test for this capability specifically.

Public Wi-Fi a Concern

The firm began looking into potential security issues last Monday when the company's founder, Avi Rubin, was showing off his iPhone, Miller said.

"He gave us the proposition," Miller said. "'If you guys think you can do it.' He gave us a week and an iPhone to play with."

When the firm made the discovery last week, it called Apple to warn about the issue.

"They haven't said a whole lot to us," Miller said. "They basically acknowledged that they were looking into it."

Apple told ABCNews.com that the company is looking into the firm's report.

"We always welcome feedback on how to improve our security," said Lynn Fox, an Apple spokeswoman.

The security firm also found that the iPhone could also be hacked using a public Wi-Fi connection, for example at an airport or a coffee shop, if the hacker set up an additional wall between users and the connection.

"I can basically sit between you and the real Web server you're talking to," Miller said. If the user connects to any Web page, the hacker can take control of the iPhone and the owner's information.

Although the test was only for the iPhone, Miller said that if future Wi-Fi capable phones have similar flaws, they probably can be accessed in a similar way.

Can I mention again what is wrong with people?

MAN 'PUT FINGERS ON TRAIN LINE FOR INSURANCE PAY-OUT'

A MAN put his hands under a train so his fingers would be severed and he could collect an insurance pay-out, prosecutors in Austria have alleged. The 35-year-old from the town of St Johann, whose name was not released in line with Austrian privacy laws, is being tried on federal charges of insurance fraud stemming from claims filed in November 2003.

The suspect, a former false fingernail designer, told police he was riding his bicycle when he lost control and rolled down an embankment on to rail tracks just as a train was passing. He lost a thumb on one hand and an index finger and a pinky on the other. Investigators were suspicious when they found the man took out a £700,000 insurance policy a few months earlier.

State attorney Elvira Gonschorowski-Zehentner said prosecutors believed the man cut off his own fingers in an attempt to cash in. But the man's lawyer, Karl Wampl, dismissed as outlandish the idea that he would intentionally have mutilated himself in that way, arguing he could have used a power saw rather than risk death. If convicted, he may face ten years' jail.

Well there goes another a** f*** off to retirement. that makes no sence, now if another site had that setup and ebay cloned it then I could see, but that.....

.... Too many stupid lawsuit happy moronic imbuicals out there! Oddly enough arn't they the reason people arn't alloued to do anything anymore. I mean so many places can't take the risk and as such block off evrything from the public. Maby we should see just all we can come up with. Mine is camping...

Ahhhhhh, good old Evil-Bay in another law suit.  This article came from the Associated Press.

A federal judge Friday denied a request from a small Virginia company to stop the online auction powerhouse eBay from using a feature that allows shoppers to purchase items at a fixed price.

U.S. District Court Judge Jerome B. Friedman denied a motion by MercExchange LLC for a permanent injunction against San Jose, Calif.-based eBay over the "Buy It Now" feature.

Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that although eBay infringed upon MercExchange's patent for the service, it was up to the lower court to decide whether eBay had to stop using it.

In his ruling, Friedman said the company was not irreparably harmed because it continued to make money from its patents, either by licensing them outright or by threatening litigation against those it believed infringed upon them.

A federal jury found in 2003 that eBay had infringed on Great Falls-based MercExchange's patent and awarded the company $35 million. The amount later was reduced to $25 million.

MercExchange attorney Greg Stillman called the opinion a "double-edged sword."

"It was sort of good news, bad news for both sides," Stillman said. "I'm sure eBay is relieved that they're not going to be enjoined, but on the other hand (Friedman) made it quite clear that they're going to have to pay for that right."

Catherine England, a spokeswoman for eBay, said the company is "extremely pleased" with the decision.

Friedman denied eBay's request to stay proceedings on the "Buy It Now" patent because the infringement suit already has been tried by a jury and a final verdict and damage award was affirmed by the federal circuit.

The judge did stay proceedings on a second patent held by MercExchange until the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has time to reexamine it.

In the closely watched case, the high court ruled that judges have flexibility in deciding whether to issue court orders barring continued use of a technology after juries find a patent violation. The decision threw out a ruling by a federal appeals court that said injunctions should be automatic unless exceptional circumstances apply.

The case became a rallying point for critics who argue the U.S. patent system is riddled with abuse from small businesses that sue established companies to enforce patents for ideas that have never been developed into products.

Nope, this is the first I've heard of anything.

It musta been with a non-passenger train or MOW operation. If it had been with a passenger train it would have been all over the newswire. Where did you see the pics?

But way let it die again.  Don't people like a post to just yell at each other.....oh that already happens in all of the other posts.

On other issues, did anyone hear about the insident up at the White Pass & Yukon.  All I have heard is that earlier this year 1 employee was killed and 3 more hurt.  The Alco diesel is now in BNSF's yard near Seattle.  That must have been a nasty fall because the cab is crushed to the bottom of the windows.  Anyone know anything else about it?

I only refound it searching for something. I know some people didnt like it but others did. It just dropped dead though...

If no ones interested (and it doesnt look like it), then it will just die again...I wont rebump it.

I read because, "My god where did this thread come from?" After reading I remembered when it started and what happened around the time it started. I also remember that I left this forum for over 8 months around that time because it had gotten so far off base of anything enjoyable or usable it wasn't worth my time.

I posted in agreement because if something hasn't been posted to in over a year and a half, it seems that no one cares about the topic itself anymore. To cry like someone has trampled all over your civil rights by posting is rediculous since the same rights you are crying about are being used in the post you don't like.

If a post lives on by itself so be it. If it dies off and no one adds to it for a long time why resurrect it with a post that adds nothing to it's content?
