Hi all,

First day of skiing this season, snow was excellent, weather was good i.e. about -5ºC (23ºF for the metrically impaired), slight cloud cover, negligible wind.
Of course we take it real easy early in the season, so 6.5km (4miles) was all we did.

This is Virginia snow, not so good for skiing, but makes great underwear![8D]

Its pretty lousy for snowmobileing too[;)]

Torby,

Is there a special number to call??

After spending since Midnight trying to track down a long lost parcel through FedEx, their German feeder system and the shipper in Germany, I could do with a little help.
SNAFU is only the start!

Watch for a really b*i*t*c*h*y rant ( this will be "way better" than the standard HJ rant [}:)][}:)][B)][}:)]) in the next few days!

Foggy morn here in LA

Havent been able to do squat on the workbench but did manage to work on the outdoor layout yesterday, just took some time out while mowing the yard to remove the double S curves I originally put down on my layout. I put them in just to give it a slighlty more visually interesting appeal to a tiny layout, stupid idea now that I look at it. Created problems with cars uncoupling and even derailing. So instead put down a straight section of track and changing out the mining spur switch. Only took a few minutes, one of the real advantages to a small layout I guess.

Hey TOC Dave, I took out that REA 2-4-2 lokie and really let it run yesterday.. Dang thats a nice little engine.

Runs smoooooooooooooooth and slooooooooooooooow

Spent weekend working on the office section of my nearly 12-ft long general merchandise warehouse.

Spent entire Saturday morning trying to make windows with brass and really messed up a bunch of windows.

Ended up sledghammering my telephone and pulling out the frame around the keypad to use as one set of windows.

And, destroyed a $2000 computer (which is now obsolute) to extract more window material from the frame (see pictures).

Then, annoyed the neighbors again with the table saw ripping O scale cedar paneling for the sides and then painting with honey-colored Thompson Water Seal and glueing with waterproof wood glue to insulative sheathing, attached to framing.

The sheathing is the same stuff used to build my 1:1 house, so I figured if it's good enough for my house, then it's good enough for my miniature house.

For the office portion of the warehouse roof, I made my own roofing by laying down a coating of waterproof almond paint, sprinkling play sand on it and then sealing with waterproof glue mixture. I may add another coat of paint over it b/c I don't like the sand look.

I went out to the Virginia hinterlands yesterday photographing old warehouses on the Southern RR (now NS). Here's some pictures I'm gonna work off of for door detailing and stuff.

I'm not at all sure what doohickies belong on the roof of these old warehouses-antennas, chimneys, vents, pipes, walk-in door traps, air conditioning units, etc etc. I can't find any plans for roofs of the 40s and 50s, the time period I'm modeling and I'm unsure if the roofing stuff these days is what they had in old days.

Yes well no one is more upset than me and really I don't care if I have upset anyone.
I really only care about mysef.

If anyone will own up to upsetting me, please send a can of beer in an unmarked parcel to my private address here on Kawana Island and I will certainly forgive and forget.

Further this is a great international forum and you can say what ever you want to say and in return you must accept what evrone else has to say to you and about you,

I havent mentioned it to anyone but I have recieved a few threatening emails from North American people on the fringe of this forum. I advised them when i will be in USA and offered to meet them in a park or parking lot to sort things out, no more threats.

Hi Dave,

If and when adding an extra forum/section is being discussed we could suggest a "Hall of Fame of Classic Posts". Everyone would be entitled to one post, but one post only!
And here comes the wrinkle, since it would work like a book of quotations the space beside each name would be "Fair Game", the members would decide on the frequency of rotation i.e. when their one post gets bumped, they get to bump someone else and they couldn't post to their own name. [;)][;)][:)][:)][:D][:D]

The idea is a modification of a dictionary I came across not long ago, they even added "thumbs up, thumbs down" to that one. http://www.urbandictionary.com/

Truly a coincidence, Matt. I had a 69 1/2 Super Bee with the 440 six pack, I used to blow down streets also, from one gas station to the next! I think that thing got around 6-8 mpg. Lots of fun, but impractical except for use as a bragging tool. I like my smaller 318's and 360 Mopars, terrible fast, brutaly rugged and rock solid reliable. Run a single vacuum secondary 4 barrel carb on top, and it's not too bad on the gas. The 318 engine I'm putting into this Dart has been dyno tested at 380hp, that's around 40hp more than the Police Intercept model! Bolt on a 727 torque-flite with a 3000rpm stall converter and a set of 3.76 gears and Mr. Firestone is going to love me! [8D][:-,][:-,][wow]

Coincidence I guess, as I was reading your post Jack my neighbor Dale just BLEW down the street in his 69 Super Bee!

I've found the tempratures this summer quite bearable in Ohio. Of course working inside air conditioned houses I don't really feel it. The worst was putting a skylight in my house 2 weeks ago hot outside and the attic heat surrounding me was terrible! Could only work for about 10 to 15 min at a time.

Now, now Vic, no whining about the humidity. Come to VA for a few days, it's like a hot wet blanket around the head. Even after 6pm it doesn't cool down, you only get a little more breeze from the mosquito wings.

This week has not been bad. Mostly in the 80's and not terribly humid. Later in the week we should be back to the 3H (Hazy, Hot, and Humid). Looks like I will be doing more work in the garage on my "new" toy, a '71 Dodge Dart. Rip out the slant six, put in something a little more beefy, throw on a coat of loud paint and- presto! Instant asphalt burner[8][bow]

Later!

I hate this summer, its sooooooooooooooo humid I cant do anything outside till after 6pm, even then its still bad even if it isnt quite so hot! When are we getting a break from this, its freaking August, where's the dry desert winds we used to get every summer. I can handle 100 degree temps with no humidity no problem, but when it gets humid like this and that hot, forget it!

Our weather pattern now seams to go from torrential heat (summer) to torrential rain (winter) and is just plain skipping spring and fall or maybe I was just busy that week and didnt notice them.

Cooled down today! Had a great weekend in Cinnci with the wife this past weekend. Got in some railfanning at the union Terminal, they let you up in the old switch tower located in the upper most room of the station overlooked the yard watch some trains coming in and going out and the unloading of container cars.

Yup, you got it Bob, the concrete is getting poured as we speak for the foundation slab for two bedroom/ full bath addition, about 450 sq ft. Got the plumber tearing up the driveway and trenching for the sewer/water. I'm glad I decided to pay somebody else to do the job, I don't have the time for all that!

Michelle is very happy! I got us a family season pass to the Marine science Museum, Bush Gardens, Water Country USA, Colonial Williamsburg and the Norfolk Zoo. No excuse for sitting around with nothing to do! Not to mention I have access to a private beach 1 mile south of the resort strip only 15 minutes away. we went out there on the 4th of July and there were only 8 people on the whole beach, way cool!

Glad those Canis are blooming nicely for you. I'll take a shot or two of my flowers and get them posted.

About the new wheels, funny how that works isn't it?[;)]

Hey TJ, how's things going? Michelle happy? Sounds like pouring concrete might be for footings? Got to add on for the girls?

Those plants blooming now, pretty! Yellow edges with orange centers!

Bought Di a new set of wheels, she wants to keep it in garage --- had to have pole barn (28' x 44') built for my tractors & junk ---- old tractor with bucket loader died clearing grass for barn so have to replace it. (16 years old, graded at least 4 homes, moved tons of snow, & mowed uncountable acres of grass --- It don't owe me a penny) That 20 grand car just wound up costing me 65 grand when you add it all together, but it's worth it, she don't complain about my trains!

Hey, I blame it on her, but really was tired of manual steering on that old tractor anyhow!
