Hey Tim! Hope the wind doesn't blow you away! I've yet to get started in earnest on my new trackage, just been so busy lately. I did manage to mark out the route with some spray paint and get a good overview of the project. Should be a lot of fun once I start laying all that track that I have just sitting on the kitchen counter.

My Triumph is actualy a motorcycle, and yes, I do look way cool upon the saddle of the beast. I have my knee high Doc Marten boots, gauntlet gloves and Davida "pudding bowl" helmet with aviator goggles. I am one handsome dude................[^]

I did some tranny work over the winter and replaced the clutches so I took it out to give it a good test run. Going by the mall, up on one wheel, Dunstall pipes screaming, while riding a 34 year old Brit bike is hard to beat for a true kick in the pants thrill, good thing the cop didn't see that one. But you know, sometimes you just gotta let the tiger free...........................

Going over to another church member's house this weekend and help them clean up the backyard. She got a notice from the city, so our bible study group did duty a few weekends ago, and are finishing this weekend. She has 1/2 acre of 4-6 foot tall weeds. What a layout I could build on her property.

Mine is mowed, and weeds are killed, now just need to work on fence and retaining wall. Also will tear up backyard and reslope away from house. That will fix flooding problem. Need an underground pipe for water, and ta da, I will be ready for railroad.

Love spring if it stays. Now we are getting 20-30 MPH winds, with gusts up to 50.

Ah spring! I cut my grass last night, checked on the tulip and Iris blooms, smelled the daisies, and cleaned the fish pond. Tonight I'm killing unauthorized plant life on the right of way and doing a good yard clean up. This weekend it'll be time to look under the pool cover and see what's going on in there.

Took my '71 Triumph Tiger out for some exercise and profiled my new riding gear (I say, wasn't that................Mike Halewood?). Warm breezes, fresh flowers and the smell of new Dunlops burning out on asphalt. Ah yes, spring is here at last.

Yes, Tim, it is awesome to be living in Virginia.[8D]

In the last half hour we went from 54 to 60. Blue skys no clouds. Great day for working outdoors. Killed the weeds, Have a small patch in back corner behind shed. Starting to look like a yard again. Dog is happy. He is 45lb lab and ????? Great size awesome dog.

Curmudgeon, being it is only a one year lease, where is it going after the year? Your name is Dave ??? and what is a TOC?? Sorry if I should know, just don't.

Ben, way to go on the lawn, yes Virginia, spring could be coming to the US. Not sure yet, rumors of more rain for SoCal, but it could be.

Now, granted, things have probably changed in 35 years, but as a general rule, there is a "proper" relieving of the watch, with a proper turnover of status.....

Take a wild guess as to who has contacted those of us who worked diligently to keep that old rustbucket afloat for 3 years and asked for a turnover.

Capt, we would make a fortune with that idea! The only ferry around here that is still in operation is the James River ferry, autos only. We could over charge the tourist for a 15 minute ride on the ferry, give them a map to Doumar's drive-in restaurant (built 1903 and inventors of the ice-cream cone), and then send them to the beach where we can sell sun burn cream to all the idiots.

As far as rail service across the bay, there isn't any. The Eastern Shore RR is a little podunk short line that runs gravel and fertilizer up and down Delmarva. At the fertilizer plant just south of Onancock, they use a John Deere tractor and tow rope to switch the cars. I always make a note to take a photo of that operation, but then forget the stupid camera. That would be a perfect RR to model in the garden; used equipment, shoe string budget, and long straight track with very few sidings serving mom and pop industries.

did anybody take over the old car ferry that used to shuttle railroad cars across the mouth of the bay??? One of the major RR's used to run it; I think it might have been the Pennsy. All it would have taken is for somebody to lease the rights to the landing stages on either side, pick up an old car float, and just hire a tugboat outfit to move it across the bay when needed!

Some of the independent tug operators up in NY bought some old car floats and still move trains around and across the harbor. Haven't seen a carfloat operation along the Delaware in 15 years or more since the Reading operation from Pidgeon Pt. (Wilm., DE), to Deepwater and Gibbstown (N.J.) shut down; but there was talk about sombody using the stage at Pidgeon Pt. to load a tourist steam train that had been sold to a Jersey outfit onto a carfloat they were going to bring down from NY for that job!

Cheeze, my license is still alive, you buy the tug and carfloat and I'll come down and run it; and we can reopen the carfloat service across the Chesapeake!

On my way home last night I was stopped at the RR crossing and wish I had my camera with me. It was the Eastern Shore RR (a local low budget short line), a SD-40 (I think) and a string of 12 of the saddest worn out, saddle back gondolas you've ever seen in your life. He was evidently hauling gravel from the Eastern Shore of VA to Tidewater. Now I ain't no genius, but there are no tracks across the Chesapeake bay, so his route must have been from the Delmarva penisula, through Baltimore, and down to Tidewater using the CSX tracks.

The point of this is; he made a 300 mile journey in a worn out leaky engine, POS gondolas from ex-railroads (I spotted Southern, Rock Island and BN among others I couldn't make out because of the rust) overloaded with gravel, and didn't even have a light on the last car, just a faded red flag. Good thing there are no RR police, he woulda got a ticket and tow for sure. Talk about guts.

Took the kids to the bay today, we looked at the Star of India, The Berkeley, and The Surprize. They said they are adding your sub. Moving it in April, open to public in May. Leave a note for me from you. They also have a sailing ship called the Californian, but didn't see it.

We also went by the Santa Fe train depot. Still looks great and there was a huge Amtrak engine with 6 cars. Didn't see an engine at the other end, but heard a trolley derailed today so don't know if they had to fix the tracks to turn engine around, or if the had one of the trains where they drive them from the car. Can't remember what that is called. Anyway it looked great. My son and I oooooowwwed and aaaahhhhheeeeedddd. Then we went to Seaport Village and bought some magic tricks. Great day, but we did get some rain.

Wow no visitors on EASTER. Hope everyone had a terrific Easter Sunday. I even got to see my brother, whom I never see but twice a year. Great day, and I showed him my trains. He was amazed that I buil the benchwork, he thought my wife did it. Way cool.

Slept 4 1/2 hours last night got up at 4:00 am drove 3 1/2 + to the job( Bad directions), worked 9 hours and drove 3 hours back to Columbus and waited on my daughter to get off work. WHEW what along day.

Oh, and drank 2+ pots of coffee today just to make it through it![zzz] off to bed.

been raining again, but no floods. It is really weird weather, we rain for half the day, then the sun comes out and we dry out, then it rains at night again. Very weird for SoCal.

At church tonight they are having a potluck. They always have some awesome dishes. Mmmmmmmmmm
