I like Fife's idea of the eatery on grounds, but there are also lots of places on Route 30 as John suggested.

I may do a recon mission on Monday.

I could meet at 1 at CTT booth, but I think I'd rather eat somewhere on grounds. I will have my family with me and it would be tougher to get away. Plus I only have Friday and there's a lot to see so I don't want to stray to far.

GIZ,

Anyone wanting to meet and get a group pic, lets meet at the CTT booth as JELECTRIC stated at 1 PM then either we can talk a bit or make plans later.  Does that sound like the plan?  NO GRITS.

1:00 on Friday at CTT sounds good to me.  There are a ton of restaurants along Rt 30 within easy driving distance if you guys want to do a sit down.  They park a lot of RVs on the Fair Grounds so I'm thinking tailgating would be OK but then I have never seen anyone do it and there may be a rule against it since they have venders all over.  Open for suggestions.  Maybe CTT would like to buy us all lunch.

Yes they will.  Bob Keller has already given me an order for GRITS for yuz giz. Shock [:O]  Will cook them here and UPS will do a super rush and fly them right up. Dinner [dinner]

Chief, Why not take a break from all that work and deliver them in person. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Certainly would but Grandson due Sunday.  If he does not come by middle of the week, they will "wake" him up by the next weekend.  Wife will be gone to Wilmington NC to stay with them.  I have to baby sit [dogs!!!!!].  Actually no Bass Pro or Cabela's until last weekend in April and then jumps the second weekend in June.  Lots of time off.  Can fish the pond while baby sitting boys.

Now, if you see Mike Wolf, hit him good and hard in the nose for me.  Tonight has been MTH S--T night.  First, another switch acted up.  Had to take it out of the main line where it joined two wother swtiches.  It got stuck partly closed.  Nothing in it, just stuck.  Took it apart, shook it and it freed up.  Put a little synthetic oil on the moving parts [seems to help as they are dry].  Put it back in.  Then started switcher moving bathtub gons into sidings.  17 Lionels and 1 MTH.  Guess which one wanted to derail?  Yes. Disapprove [V]  Then started up highspeed piggyback train.  A Triple Crown car [MTH] suddenly uncoupled.  Caught it before we had a crash.  Put on a new Triple Crown car [MTH] and couplers did not want to close [even though I had put a drop of oil on them].  Ran my Lionel SD60 pulling the train at about 80 scale miles per hour.  Can do that with 072 curves.  Did OK as put Triple Crowns at the back of the double lionel piggy backs.  Popcorn time.

Grits rule.

That was the one Southern food that stuck with me after growing up in Florida.

BTW as for what else I consume, after my heart attack a few years back, I'm on soooooo much medication that I could eat a bucket of lard and it wouldn't hurt!

Better life through chemistry and all that!

BTW Neil and Kent will be doing the Spring York (which I had been in the rotation for), and Roger and I (and presumably the new editor if we have one by then) will go in the Fall.

Brent,  It looks like no one is objecting to us getting together at 1:00 on Friday.  If you haven't found the CTT location by then, here is your guide.  There are two main entrance doors to the Orange Hall, go in the left door and go straight to the back of the hall.  This should put you in front of the MTH booth, just hang a left and CTT is the next booth, just an aisle to the exit between them.  BTW if you bring a camera, make it a pocket one as they do not allow pictues inside any of the buildings.  We have to go outside to get a group pic.

I'll be there John!  I'll probably still take my Canon because I can take the lens off and put the body cap and lens connector cap on them so there is no doubt I'm not taking pictures.  That way we can get a couple shots and then I can have copies made for everyone and mail them out.  The 5.1 Megapixel camera is decent, but it does not take as good a shot as the 8 Megapixel... although it is 1/4 the weight!

Now I've never been to a show of this size... what does everyone do with purchases?  I don't want to have to walk out to the car every 10 minutes and then miss 1/2 the show!  I was thinking of bringing the wife's luggage carrier... are those types of things permitted?

Also, is it a cash and carry show, or do the vendors take checks and CCs?

Brent - I see lots of folks carrying canvas bags and such.  The aisles are usually pretty close and crowded for any kind of cart or carrier, although power wheelchairs and such get through. What I usually do if I purchase something is carry it through the rest of that building and then head to the car for a drop off.  Parking is not too far from the buildings.

The dealer vendors usually take checks and credit cards.  Some of the folks in the member only halls will take checks or credit cards, but I usually see cash transactions in there.

As far as cameras and phones they are pretty strict, smaller out of sight is probably better.  Also wear the most comfortable shoes you own.

I agree with Mike S. that I don't want to stray too far from the fair grounds. For first timers or guys who are only there for one day, there's a lot to see.  I usually attend two days and find myself rushing to get through some halls.

Hey Bob, maybe we can share a bowl of GRITS in the fall.  I'll work toward attending that event.  Yanks, have a good time at the spring one even though I will not be there to bring GRITS.Laugh [(-D]

Mitch,
Thanks for the heads up!  I will probably be getting there early enough to get a close spot, so walking shouldn't be an issue.  I can also leave the camera in the car and get it just before meeting time...

Personally I'm thinking eating in the confines of the fairgrounds is starting to sound better... especially for lunch... if a group wants to do dinner, that is fine by me!

Bob,
Then I will look forward to meeting you and Roger in the fall!  BTW - Wife suggested that I apply for the editor position till she read the requirements and the relocation mandate!  LOL!  Imagine a Computer Programmer as CTT editor!  OH THE TRAVESTY!!!

If YUZ GIZ want to do lunch?  We can all get it there after the KODAK MOMENT in the Orange Hall.  I ate there in the fall at it wasn't too bad.  They have tables and chairs set up there.  Something to think about?

Dogs in the Orange hall it is!

Brent, Most of the vendors will hold a bulky purchase for you to pick up later when you are ready to make a trip to your car.  I've done that several times.  BTW if you are looking for any kind of tanks, don't miss Stan's Tanks.  Wish I had more space as he makes some neat stuff and he only sells at the major shows.

A few comments on previous posts. Forget going for lunch on rt.30...road construction will make it a big enough pain to get in. The hamburger stand accross from the Brown Hall (next to the Orange Hall) is fine, and it's much less expensive than the others.

Some large dealers take charge cards. Because it's a TCA meet, many dealers take checks. There are 2 ATMs on the grounds. Cash may get you a better deal.

A close parking space is handy, but plan on getting there 1 1/2 hours before the opening, at minimum. I park in the first row in front of Orange. The dirt lot on the side of Orange is second best. To avoid the crush getting into Orange at the show opening, use the side door on the left of the building.

Ogaugeoverlord - You're sending us NEIL?  Hasn't he already been seduced by the Dark Side...?  Perhaps when he meets me he will be so impressed with my RR powers that he will want to deliver me to Emporer-in-Chief in Wisconsin, and declare me heir apparent to the CTT editor position...then the real fun will begin...

Fife - yes - the dark side....

I can see it now - Neil starts evangelizing about 2 rail track with code 55 rails and how Lionel HO is a great way to get started in the hobby. People's eyes will glaze over and Kent will have to administer CPR (CTT Product Reviews for 3 rail and AF products) to bring them back to consciousness.

Fife - No NO NO - don't give away the arrows - a newbie has to experience the wrath of the arrows (particularly where they are missing and you just have to KNOW) Shock [:O]

But not to worry - someone will help you see the light (Arrows). Oh - and don't use your cell phone to call for help!

Brent - it is an experience to behold Confused [%-)]

I am wondering, why does everyone try to get into the orange hall first?  I always run out of money anyway so what does it mater if I miss a few items?

My guess is that today's younger hobbyists--either in age or in terms of exposure to the hobby, or both--tend to feel that the only trains worth pursuing are those made in this century or even this year.  And the interesting thing is that there's usually little or nothing available in the Orange Hall that couldn't be found and bought elsewhere at better prices.  The real "finds" are generally at the other halls, and about the only true advantage of the Orange Hall is the opportunity it presents to meet and talk with the various manufacturers and a number of after-market suppliers.

Back in the pre-Orange Hall days, the largest opening-hours crowds used to gather in the Yellow and Blue Halls--Yellow (and environs back when Lionel and MTH had their tents outside) for those looking for newer stuff, and Blue for those interested in the vintage items.  So I guess things haven't really changed all that much, aside from the actual venues.

But in the hobby as it is now, today's new stuff quickly becomes tomorrow's has-beens, usually by the time the next catalog appears, so I expect that all of the halls eventually see their fair share of visitors.

Orange last.  I'm more interested in the "one of a kind" items found in the "Member Halls" and minding my own table (E-14) in the "Blue Hall".

I'll see all you guyz there unless something changes.  For the first time I'll probably start out in Silver or Blue as I am looking for a Pre War engine 260E.  After that who know where I'll end up.  I will make an effort to be at the orange hall at 1pm though!

It really is good we don't all have exactly the same interests or one or two halls would be packed and the others empty. Smile [:)]

Don,

What day do you arrive in York? I think I recall you were going to be there most of the week. I get there on Tuesday afternoon.

When do the rest of you that are traveling long ways get there?
