As they said in Hong Kong when I was last there - 'Happy Thankfulness Day'! I am certainly thankful for the friends on this forum, like Lisa and the rest of you boys. Made it home a little early -  starting to snow here. Smoked out the house making burgers for supper.

That's a special gift, Dennis. We have a Woodstock just north of us - where they filmed 'Groundhog Day'... Hope the dog is Ok when you get back.

It's funny, we've tried to do the same thing as Kurt and Jim S at least since '01 - my bride, who is also an RN, is staying home with the kids while we try to live on one income. That's one of the reasons I try to teach 'on the side.' She's even home-schooled 'em - not for any ideological reason but because you can't beat one-on-one tutoring. So far so good - even with the latest adventure of the car dying. It certainly helps to hold everything we have - including my beloved trolleys - with an open palm.

Can't wait to hear about Laz' hunting adventures.

Roy, we are not flying out of Atlanta.  My sister-in-law lives in Woodstock, north east of Atlanta.  We are driving up dark early tomorrow and staying till Friday.  Plan is to leave Friday and stop at Memory Station and hopefully see Roger B.  This is all contingent on a few things and ultimately SWMBO makes the call on this one.

Chief, Thanks!

Dropped the dog off at the vets.  Hope he will be alright.  They will watch him over the next few days, but since we were going to be out, thought it best to have someone to keep an eye on him.  He just wasn't acting right and didn't eat today.

Lots to be thankfull for, but will lift that up in prayer.  I really appreciate the friends from here that I have met or spoken with.  A good crowd (even those above the MD line).

Oh, and Roy, will be flying into Killeen Tx. on the 30th for a few days hunting and for a friends promotion to Lt. Col.  My present for that is a original unfired Springfield 03.  That was his training rifle in the Military Academy.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

Dennis

I hope Kurt understands I was only funnin. My wife did not go to work until our youngest started jr. high Now they call it middle school. We had one car and I took and picked her up from work. She worked evenings, I watched the kids.

Don, I think what they are talking about, though not specificly, is possibly an astronomical hi-tide. I haven't checked but I think there is a full  moon late friday to early saturday. Seems like it would have been very easy to say that instead of just announcing a flood watch, Dunce [D)]. Doug - that's great - we used to do Yea! ...Boo!

Cooling down here quickly. The only thing colder than N Texas when it gets like this is Ohizo! Stay warm Buckeye, Chuck, John, et al!

Don - that panic switch is a very good idea. The panic buttons on DCS and TMCC only stop the trains, they do not stop the current. BTW - The DCS panic button only stops the current train you are controlling. To stop all DCS trains (if you are running multiples) requires you to push the panic button 2 or 3 times (I forget which it is - I just push it at least 3 times). We found this out the hard way on the old club layout - thought 1 push shut down 2 trains about to collide - OOPS! Wrecked anyway. Then we had to read the manual - so 2 strikes - wreck and men having to read the instructions.

Dennis - Are you going to Atlanta to the airport or are you just traveling? In the past for us, the best day to fly is Thanksgiving or Christmas Day. No one on board. It has been about 6 years since we last did that. Probably always crowded now.

Kurt - good for you! My work the last couple of years has allowed me to work from home so I can be here for kids, emergency trips to the shcool, start dinner (I am great with Hamburger Helper!), etc. My daughter drives herself now so that is 1 I do not have to chase (for now).

For all you traveling - be careful and have a safe trip!

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Regards, Roy

Evening all

I think it is wise for a parent, either one to stay home and get the kids off to the right start.  The extra income from both working often gets consumed by extra car, gas clothes, daycare, doctors visits due to being in the germ pool called daycare, taxes not to mention stress.   I our case, my bride is an RN. When the kids came along she quit and stayed with the kids.  When the kids started school she went to work as a school nurse to be on the same schedule.  After they graduated she went back to hospital nursing in peds.

Garage project on hold.  All ready for trusses to be delivered and when the ruck arrived I noticed they were not the right pitch.  Wrong pitch ordered.  Re-ordered trusses, delivery 8-10 days!  Oh well starting my 7 straight work days friday so I was not going to be able to do much anyway.

Congrats Buckeye on being published!

Added 10 pine trees to the layout.  Walmart had 6" pine trees for 99 cents.  Look ok to me.  I'll take some pics and post 'em Sunday.

All travellers be careful, give some extra time, and forgive others as you would like to be forgiven.

May God bless

Jim

Amen to that!  I'm sure I'll be working soon enough.  I had 2 offers this year and didn't apply for anything...

Cranberry Tort didn't work...Youngest plumbing not working...a lot crying, and had to make cranberry preserves from scratch...too much going on at once.  Top of torte burned inside needed to cook another 20-minutes.  Very tasty though...

Kurt--

My wife stayed home until our youngest one finished kindergarden. It was hard on one income but we survived, it was a choice that worked out. Many years I even had a 2nd job at night or worked weekends, it was great that she stayed home. The money you are saving is signficant plus knowing who is raising your family is the most important factor, at least it was for us. It was a full time job for her.

That was planned from the start...

We bought a small starter house that we could afford on one of our incomes.  We both were looking for new jobs at the same time a few years ago, and my wife was offered the better deal.  So I stayed home, and remodeled our house just before our first child.

We can't afford all the 'stuff' our friends do, but we don't argue about who has to pick the kids up from daycare either.

So far it's working for us.

Mornin/Afternoon All !

Kurt, After I was "downsized" I did some cabinet making here at the house but spent 99+% of my time as a "house hubby". Since I did the cooking already it worked out great, a whole lot better than my cabinet work. Laugh [(-D]

Well I finally finished up the Christmas layout enough that I could clean all of the assembly/decorating junk out of the living room. There are still a few little things to do after Thanksgiving, just some little touches here n' there. This morning was clean up the train room, I swear it looked as though someone had turned it upside down and shook it. Blush [:I]

Tomorrow will be very busy with my bread making and turkey n' trimings prep so just wanted to wish everybody

Happy Thanksgiving !!!!!!!

I got to thinking about my last post...

I hope I didn't offend anyone, that was not my intention.  I apologise if I did.

To clarify:  I do not have a 'day-job', I am a stay-at-home Dad.  I do everything I can to take care of everything around the house, so my wife, who works around the clock, can come home, relax, and spend time with our family.

Work???? No I don't work...Laugh [(-D]  I just have to stay at home with the kids, and cook, clean, wash dishes, shopping, bills, yardwork...and other duties as assigned.  My wife works enough for both of us; 10-14 hours a day.

I'm usually up with the youngest between 4:00 and 4:30am.  She wakes up for a bottle (still) and goes back to sleep.  I can't get back to sleep after I've been up for a half-hour feeding her.  She'll be back up for the day about 6:00am, and the eldest is usually up by 7:00am.

Beautiful bright sun shine day in North Florida. Rain possible tomorrow. Trying to clean house. Getting started on prepping the turkey for tomorrow. Going to the airport (ugh) to pick up sister-in-law who is flying in from the Big Apple. Arrival is 6:00 P.M. so will be in evening rush hour traffic. Haven't had much chance to run trains. Level four in train room was dead the other night and didn't have time to check where the problem was. Need to do laundry this weekend as well. Hope everyone has a great holiday.

Roger, we are heading that way in the morning.  I plan to leave dark early as I figure the traffic will be quite bad.  We are supposed to have a good chance of rain too, so that will only add to the issues.  Hope to get by the store on Friday.  If you are there, it will be great to meet you.

Got some issues with the dog.  Will be taking him to the vets at 11am and hope to get him taken care of...he's a good one.  We were going to let him have the run of the place while we are away, but will leave him at the vets in case.

I hate coming here with yet another issue.  Don't want to start sounding like a certain shyster who took us for a ride awhile back.

Anyway, hope everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving and travelling mercies to all with places to go.

Good Morning - Hope everyone has a Happy Turkey Day!!

Finished installing my AC Power line last night.  Put in a Panic Switch at the opposite end of the layout as well.  Probably really dont need it since all the hand held have the HALT button.  But, it still makes me nervous when something happens and the layout gets a short or something.  Like that power off immediately.

Looking forward to the weekend, but limited train time.  Thur - family, Friday - Outside Decorations, Sat - Inside Decorations, Sunday - work 3/4 day, ugh.

Chuck at Mizells really helped me a lot.  A month a go I had them replace the thumbwheel in a DCS controller, this month ordered a speaker from him, and it should be here Friday.  Mth (Midge) was very responsive as well to call I made on Monday, but the price is the same and Mizells is a lot closer.

Those of you that have the new CTT, was anything said about the TMCC/DCS compatibility issue from last 2 months and the toggle switches??

Off to work, maybe get off early!

The Weather Channel sure is messed up here!  They are announcing our area is under a Flood Warning!  We havn't seen any rain in months!  Nowhere around either!  Somebody must be washing a car or left the sprinklers on!
