Laz, What road name did you order?  I paid 500 at York about a year ago for one in CNJ so you got a great deal.  BTW, mine runs great and smokes like an MTH engine. Thumbs Up [tup]

That's the way deer hunting goes.  I don't hunt anymore but used to always see tons of deer in squirel season and lots of squirels in deer season. Smile [:)]

Back from running errands. Mild and rainy out there. Now off to the mall with the fam to return gifts. Then a PATRIOTS dinner party later on.

Sure am, John. Lifelong fan. It's a golden age for sports fans in New England right now. 5 world championships since 2001 and more on the way. Especially if the Red Sox get Santana from the Twins!

" I would like to discuss a situation that is becoming progressively worse on the forum of late, that is, excessive posting by a handful of forum members. It appears that a small minority of members cannot go more than fifteen minutes without posting something on the forum. As an example, just yesterday, I counted 35 separate posts from one forum member, many having little to do with trains.

Now don't get me wrong, the forum is a great resource and I usually welcome input from every member. However, when a person starts posting that frequently, and their name keeps popping up over and over, across many different threads, after a while you start to feel like you are being SPAMMED.

Nor am I suggesting that every single post has to deal with trains, either. In fact, most of my own posts, such as this one, have dealt with broader topics. And, I am a big fan of the "Coffee Pot", which historically has dealt with topics of a more personal nature. However, 35 posts by one member in one day... that is going overboard.

Let's face it, internet bandwidth and web hosting don't come cheap, and I'm sure it costs the publisher a good chunk of money each month to maintain the "trains.com" web site, even with the limited ad revenue that the site generates. As evidence of this, didn't the OGR forum owners raise the possibility of imposing a fee for forum usage a while back? Who knows, perhaps cutting back on gratuitous postings by the forum hogs might just save the publisher of CTT enough money to pay for a few extra pages of substantive content in the magazine each month.

Look, there is nothing wrong with friends wanting to chat with each other throughout the day. I know, I've raised two teenage girls, and teenagers just love IM'ing their friends constantly, whenever their computers are turned on. However, the forum hogs that I am referring to are not teenage girls.

Therefore, I make this simple request. If you are a forum member, and you have this uncontrollable urge to send somebody a message every fifteen minutes, please do it via your own personal e-mail and save some of the forum's limited bandwidth for the other 46,000 of us who wish to use it for its intended purpose. Thank you. " from edw

Afternoon all!

Cloudy and cool here.  Was reading with interest the new vs old transformer subject generated by the CTT article on new ones.  Was good to see Bob's old 107 again, which I think up until recently was standard equipment used on death row. Wink [;)] I hope all these new power sources become very popular and keep driving down the prices on the old, unsafe and unreliable Bakealite I buy.  It's making it easier to afford a complete collection of them.

CSX - You should edit your last post to include quotes so that people know what's going on - it took me a few seconds to flip back to the full forum and find that post you quoted titled Forum Hogs by EDW.  For a second I thought you were going schizo on us!???!  Tongue [:P]  I'm surprised Jumijo hasn't posted on that thread yet.... Everybody who wants to stay on my email list should send me an email (if you have my address) or send me your email address using the email button here on this site.  It's almost time for the annual purge and I delete contacts who haven't been contacting me....  If you've been emailing me back, you are safe, as I don't need much encouragement.

Well, gotta run to Wally World to get some medicine and stuff and then we have friends coming over tonight.  I might be back on in a couple hours, though so I can keep my post count up Laugh [(-D]

Back from the mall. Saw a lot of stores completely empty or with going out of business sales in progress. Didn't see any Hogwarts Express sets in Sears or Macys.

I'll be bringing hot, fresh, gooey chocolate chip cookies!  Chef [C=:-)]  We need a little happy piggy type smily face - do they make that?  Just for me!!!

Hogwarts Express is "on sale" on a lot of sites for about $220 to $230, which I guess is a small markup, say cost + 10 percent, for most of these guys.  It is a great set and a steal at that price, BTW.  I keep thinking about buying another one to repaint....  But, I have a lot of other stuff to do first.

Bruce - very well said!  I hope that Chief will make a new Coffee Pot when the calender flips over to 2008.

Bill - Laugh [(-D]Wink [;)]  I think I need to let out my belt another notch to allow for all this bandwidth I'm hogging....

I plan on it.  That way we do not take up too much server space graciously given by CTT and Kalmbach.

EDW and CSTect, well said.  Its not the numbers but what is said.  Also, when you say it, know you are telling what is right.  I've wittnessed posting of wrong advice and then that person going back and editing the post.  People around here are not dumb.  Easy to see.  I want to thank all who have posted "honest" posts to the Coffee Pot over the years.  You nave made this one of the most popular threads in the train fourms.  Best to all of those who read and don't post very often.  This thread was started one morning while I was in a Holiday Inn in Savanah GA waiting for a Bass Pro Shops to open.  Elliot [Big Boy], Tom Pescha, Buckeye and my self got it going.  It has really grown.  Most joining us have been great friends.  A few problems "crop" up now and then.  They have gone or hopefully will go.  Thanks to all of you, the "Pot" [as it is called with affection] will go on.  God bless us all.

Been a long day.  Quite honestly, this arguing gets tiresome.  Hate to say it, but it makes me less inclined to read through the threads when so much of the posts are either folks arguing or just posting for the sake of posting, not knowing what they are talking about.  There is, or at least there was a lot of folks with vast knowledge of this hobby on here.  It seems less so lately.
