Nope... when I asked why she was offering to pick her up she said, 'Because you've been planning the York day trip for a couple months now and you don't get to hang out with your train buddies too often.'  My payment is to ensure we have little ones... Blush [:I]

Brent,

I can't wait to see that 1688 when Keith sends it back to you.  He does great work.  Extremely nice guy as well.  When I was talking to him the other night, I told him that the perfomance of my 2343s degraded rather significantly in a short period of time.  He asked if I took the e unit apart to clean it.  I told him I didn't, and he said that is most likely the cause of the poor performance.  Judging by what I found when I took it apart, he was right.  Most of the fingers had holes in them, and I didn't that that a drum could get this distorted.  I ordered a another e unit last night from Jeff Kane.

Keith knows his shi...stuff when it comes to trains. A super nice guy too.

Jim T, are you the one who just bought a set of 2343s with some iffy shells? I was on Ebay last night and saw some awesome shells that would immediately upgrade almost any set.

2343 shell # 1

2343 shell # 2

These are both being sold by the same seller. Both auctions close today. Please note that they do not have portholes. Replica snap-in portholes are available, but look wrong, in my opinion. The snap-in type are for the 2353s.

I locked my 2343s in forward because I never have a need to run them in reverse. Passenger trains rarely back up on the Jumijo.

Kurt, I just bought some new stuff for sweating pipes with water in them.  I found this at Home Depot - it's a kit with balls made out of some goop you push into the pipe.  When you have joined the pipe/fittings, you heat the pipe where the blob was for a few seconds and it speeds it up disolving.  I'll let you know how it works in a couple weeks!

Have used that stuff...works great just as advertised.  But bread also works and at 2-3 bucks a loaf a helluva lot cheaper for the minor inconvenience of purging soggy bread chunks out of your pipes after the jobs done.  I think what's pictured goes for 10-15 dollars.

Roland

I think it was only like $6.95 or something like that?  The good thing about this is I can keep it in my plumbing toolbox and it won't attract bugs or mice!!!

Just back from my lunchtime walk. It's raining pretty steadily out there. I walked laps inside the parking garage and enjoyed the cool air. It would seem that the warm weather has finally left us. Perhaps only to re-visit on a rare ocassion until next summah.

I also made a partial list of supplies needed to repair Brent's pw tender and vista dome.

Large, galvanized nails

Ballpeen hammer

Plaster of paris

2" paint brush

Rivets

Scotch tape

Torpedo level

Course sandpaper

Dry ice

Now the waiting for Mr. Brown begins...

Well, my son woke up with a migraine or sinus headache so I'm off today.  Oh well, guess I'll have to watch cheesy old sci fi movies and play on the computer all day - woe is me!

Actually had to snake a toilet this morning (the same one again) and then cleaned the bathrooms since the kids never do that chore.

Looks like a great fishing trip, Laz!  My buddy Jeff went back to the lake in Neoga IL last weekend with Ron (heart attack guy) and they caught a couple bass and 20 croppy.  I wish I could have gone with them, but just too much to do around the house right now.

Oh, I saw that this dvd is coming out on Nov 13, just FYI:

Jim,

My 2343s had a masssive black spot on the dummy A unit.  I have since replaced the shell with one that is in better shape.  Thanks for keeping an eye out though.  I'd like those shells, but between the 2055/6026W last week, and the e unit last night, my checking account has really taken a beating.Big Smile [:D]

I hear ya, Jim. Best of luck with your post war beauties. I'm going to dig my 2055 out tonight and let it stretch its legs. It hasn't run in a few months. The 2343s have been hogging all the track time!

Afternoon All !

Jim A., You forgot another very valuable tool for the repair a Blowtorch. Clown [:o)]

Well the wife has been bending my ear for awhile now about replacing this desktop, just because it has started to sound like a rock crusher when it's on. At times you can hear it on the other side of the house it is so loud. Looks as though I will be on Train Restriction after her Hogwarts set comes in. Broke down this morning and bought a new Dell desktop, she wanted me to get a laptop/notebook but those keyboards are just to small for my fat stubby fingers. It takes forever for me to type anything with a full size let alone on a laptop, tried using hers a few times and had to quit, unless you guys wanted to try to read a bunch of gobiltygook that is worse than normal. Blush [:I]

If you have a USB keyboard you can plug that into the laptop...

Look! It's Duck Dodgers of the 21st and a half century to the rescue! Greetings from a grey and cold Crystal Lake where I have  been spending money all day - car repairs, winter coats for the kids, house stuff, ugh. No trains. At least I found a Batman movie at the library - Adam West and Bruce Ward versus the United Underworld - it features the Bat boat and Bat copter. Atomic batteries to power! Turbines to speed! Ready, Batman!

I can't believe it, Doug. My son, John came out of nowhere with that Batman movie DVD about 2 hours ago wanting to watch it. I slipped it back upstairs when he was eating dinner. I've seen it 12,000 times. "Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb".

I love Warner Bros cartoons. Never ever see them on tv any more. Thank goodness for youtube!

We just ran some postwar trains for a while. Got out the 2055 and watched it run smooooooth. Then we had a rousing air hockey tournament. Dad was the only loser, as any decent dad should be...

I'm hoping some station will broadcast a bunch of old black and white sci-fi space movies this month. Love that stuff!  Alien [alien]

Warner Brothers just released a few seasons of the Bugs/Daffy/Looney Toons on DVD.  Check Target.  Also for real entertainment...next summer look for a Warner Brothers Orchestra performance.  They play the cartoons on the big screen, and the Live orchestra plays the music.  Typically the audience does the singing and dialogue.

I saw this at an outdoor venue...the whole hill singing 'kill the waaabbit...kill the waaabit!

Kurt, that would be totally cool - Killll the waaaabiittt!  Oh Bwoomhilda, you're so wuvwyy!

Jumijo, they have like 4 or 5 golden collections of the old Warners cartoons at about $30 a pop on sale, but each one has a ton of cartoons.  I think we have the first 3 collections so far.  Now, I wish they would finally release the old 60's Batman tv show, but the sales of the Batman The Movie (60's version) were not very good and also there are fights over the rights, so there is a big question as to when these will finally come out.

Would you believe I'm thinking about getting the complete Get Smart set from TimeLife for Christmas?!  There is a complete best of Johnny Carson set coming out in a few weeks that should be good too, and also a complete set of Man from Uncle (I'm iffy on that one - I remember I loved it as a kid, but I haven't seen that show in over 30 years I guess).  I'm waiting for CSX John to post a review of that black diamond dvd too.

Evening all.  Home from funeral, Red Robin with IL's, Belks for at sport coat and Wranglers at Traget.  Went to feed the deer at dark.  6 ladies waiting for the corn.  They will probably get tamer.  Resting and TV now.  Carter [Grandson] came today.  He is flying to Ft. Lauderdale tonight.  Told him he was trying to catch Granddad with frequent flier miles.  He flew to Boston a few weeks ago for his Uncle's wedding [Chris' brother], to Chicago for his Uncle's and Aunt's [new bride] race and now to Ft. Lauderdale to Aunt's [Chris' sister] to help do wedding planning.  7 month old jetsetter.

Really cooler here.  Later
