Chief, The layout is looking good. Had a very sharp frost here and its -3 C. So keep up the good work. A few more track sections and we should have SnowSmile [:)]

Charlie and I would like to start on our layout however we are waiting for our garage/gamesroom plans to be passed by the local council. So construction is a long way off. Enjoying our round the tree loop though.

I am thinking about a 16 x 8 foot layout at the moment similar to the one in the new TM DVD on layout building.

P.S. I notice your in North Carolina. My Grandfather came from there. I have quiet a few relatives  around Fayetteville and Scotland County. Ever come across any Edens in your travels?

State Fleet Manager introduced me to a lot of folks.  Edens is a known name.  I go down that way Scottland Co. and around Ellerbe [Richmond and Montgomery Co's] to visit my retired pilot friend.  That is where we do our shooting.  We have Edins here in Rolesville [in fact I am kin to them].  Eagles came from England.  Ever meet any of those over there, they are in the family tree.

Nice work Chief!  Keep working, what are you going to cover the plywood with?

For those of you who tease the Chief, I went outside this morning in shorts and a light shirt, BTW I live in south Florida about 60 miles north of Miami, NO snow predicted for over a week!! Then again it ususally don't snow this far south.

P.S. Need to get my air conditioning checked!

Worked today adding that extra section.  Then built the shelf for the power center.  Went back to work at 11:30 PM.  Wired the breaker panel so I was not running off of drop cord.  This is a breaker panel for trains only.  First breaker is transformer outlet.  Second is general outlets that will be under the edge of the benchwork.  They will be for tools and things like solder gun.  This is fed from a 240 breaker in the panel in the walkin attic through the wall in a 4 prong twist lock outlet and plug.  #10/4 wire [over kill but I had a short section].  Flip the breakers and everything is dead.

Temp track wiring to get TMCC, TPC and DCS working.

Have a few ZW's [futue, one wll power inner loop, one will power outer loop and one will power the sidings.  The two KW's will run accessories and lights.  Got to build them a shelf.  Will panel the back of this with plywood.  Mount some things on it and will cut out holes and mount the plupins Frankie got for me.  One for each track and the sidings.

Plugins he got for me.  Cut out hole and flush mount.

Pannel

From the main door

You will see where I will go through the wall on that side.

You can tell those overhead spotlights were on.  Make things light up.

But would not work.  Had to move Command Base.  To much interference.  Moved Command Base and now works OK.

Chief,

Project looks great.  I do have one question, what are you using for overcurrent / short circuit protection?  I didn't see any fuses or circuit breakers in the pictures.

Why should he worry about that?  To cut the power in Roseyville, he'll just take  the hamsters off of the little wheel.

I get hungry working on the RR so Frank's Hot Dog stand came to town.

The big D's moved over from the other room.

Called in some big earth moving equipment to help.

Exhaust fan is on as Big D's reve up.

Great work chief! You go like a rocket..! Don't forget the posters to mimic the background, it will add a lot to the deapth of your layout and now's the time to add them. When it's all sceniced, you can't reach the wall anymore.

The big engines look a lot better then on the ground! Really massive! Keep up the good work, with a bit of scenery your layout will be awesome..

Chief - I have the same ckt box as you.  I have noticed a couple of things;

1. The ckt bkr has a tendency to move or rotate a little, (the center ones especially) caused an internal short.

2. Set screw in banana plug can come loose easy and fall out letting wire come loose.

I have taken some locktite to try and resolve.

Don, If you want a top quality banana plug try Mouser # 530-108-0303-1, that is the black # but they come in other colors.  This one has no set screw, you just strip the wire, insert in the plug and twist around the connector and screw the cap on to lock the wire in place.  They also have a high amperage rating.

Thanks John, will definetly check them out.  Too much time and work to have to go back and fiddle with these all the time.   (Finding the little set screw, much less the problem potential. )  Old Risk analysis I sometimes play with.

1. Potential of occurrance..... Rating 1-5, 5 being the highest.

2. Severity of occurrance...... Rating 1-5, 5 being the hightest.

Then simply total the numbers for the various options and instant reccomendation.  This case both come up with very high risk..... Replace them.
