I went to the store at lunch time and got the OSU train. This was my first experience with th MTH trains. That train was very impressive, Buckeye fan, or not.
Protosound 2.0 is really awesome. Trains sure have changed in the past 8 years since I got my last Lionel Alaska Diesel set. They do so much more than just go around in circles and blow a horn!
You owe it to yourself to find one of these trains and have someone demo it for you. It surpassed my expectations by 3 fold, at least.
Wes, isn't the sound something else on that OSU Train! I was completely surprised when I heard it at MS Trains. Did you know there is another MTH store in Galena? Due to my recent experiences with the speed limits in Galena, I go to MS Trains.

No, in fact I wouldn't have found the store today if you hadn't told me (thanks). I live in Delaware, and work at OSU.
Mel was a really nice guy. You can tell he likes his trains. I'm just getting back into trains after a few years (I'm 30 now...), and things have changed. He spent the time to clear some things up for me, and I bet we talked for over 30 minutes just running through ideas for what I am doing with my track. I always feel good buying from a place like his. His customer service was great, and he explained everything about warranty to me, and what I needed to do if I had a problem. He also gave me some insight about the sounds. I guess OSU sent a bunch of audio clips to the VP of MTH, who picked and chose the best clips for us to hear. MTH did a great job, and will be rewarded if fans find out about this train. You know how crazy some fans get. By next year, I want to have the DCS with audio input so I can simulcast the audio during the game for people in the train room. Great toys!
I got this for 2 reasons. The OSU part, and I wanted a new train for my son's first Christmas! Sure, he is only 5 1/2 months old, but he will remember for the rest of his life that I got this train when he was born. The wife loves the idea too, so it's going to be a great Christmas.
If anyone has any tips on a ceiling mounted train, please let me know. I have been making the mounts for the past few days, and am getting ready to start installing them. I was going to put one every 9" with no plywood roadbed so I could see under the train, but now that I see this MTH track, I might use it instead. I would mount it on plywood, since the bottom is nothing special to look at. I could also use a lot less mounts that way, since the track would be supported well with the plywood.
Oh, make sure you check out the train setup at the Columbus zoo. It's a really nice G scale train setup. They spent $5000 on it!

I just started a new job here on SR 315 just north of the University, and I have a CSX train that goes by the office all of the time. It's less than 100 yards from my window. I need to investigate who it is, but there is a yard just south of me, and sometimes the train actually is stopped on the track before it pulls into that yard. So I see trains everyday now!

The CSX Tracks that you see from SR 315 are the tracks that eventually head south to Portsmouth and then cross the river. When the trains are stopping near you, they are usually waiting for another train to clear a single track to the south. If the train is mostly containers, it might be waiting to get into the north end of the Buckeye Yards over at Hilliard.
The NS follows I-71 into Columbus from the North.
My first year at Michigan was also Bo's first year at Michigan. I attended the 1969 Michigan vs. Ohio State game, and had a great time! Woody did a great job training Bo!
Unlike most Michigan fans, I heartily root for Ohio State in all of their post-season Bowl games, and hope that Ohio State wins the National Championship again! Jim Tressel is obviously a great coach!

They are containers. It looks like strictly coal. I need to find some maps of whats north and south of me.
So I fired up the Buckeye Express yesterday. What an exciting time. I ran my wife out of the basement when the smoke started blowing (I turned it way down after that, as well as the sounds).
It's awesome! Best thing I have purchased in a long while. I can't wait to finish the ceiling track. Right now, it's on a 40' square of Lionel 027 track. I also tested it on the MTH track, which is just a much better track, but I need over 100' of it for my layout, so I'm sticking with the Lionel.

Someone asked the questions if this was a real trainset and the answer is YES. It is made by MTH and has just started to hit the dealers in the Columbus area. It is liscensed by THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. M&S Trains in Columbus did have one running in his shop about two weeks ago.
The store is very easy to get to. It's just off of 270 on the west side. You head east (Exit 7A I believe), and it's just past Westland mall in a strip mall complex. Go pay him a visit.
I decided to go to M S again to find some more track. They have 2 more trains in stock, and he hasn't placed any orders for more, but will if needed. It takes 4 days to get stuff in.
I got just as much customer service today as I did yesterday.
I also saw some of the operational buildings. There are big, but I have to find a way to get one up on my wall!
Are there any more trains shows with 027 displays coming up in central Ohio?
