As an aside, I notice teh absence of telegraph poles on this layout.

Its my floor layout until the "Big One" is started. Construction is scheduled to start first week of December, and I hope there will be poles on it.......

Built my first train; a vat flat. I believe it to be the first ever 7/8n2 car ever built entirely from scratch parts without using any tools except a screwdriver.

Built it from the wheels up using absolutely no railroad parts starting with wheels using washers, nuts and screws.













coupler parts (pin is Arrow Rivet Remaches 1/8" 3mm steel--shows the long one and how it is trimmed to be shorter; link is made from AGR-Test Replacement Links #41 Offset link--shows the link with the pin that comes with it that is taken out by removing the cotter pin. Into that hole goes a screw to hold the link to the body). All parts from Lowe's. Total cost of building entire car is about $3. Used cedar wood, stained with Water Thompson seal. Bearings for the axle are made from cut sections of copper gas tubing (Lowe's) stuck in hole drilled out. Vat is can of Manhattan chowder cut with hacksaw. Casting Resin poured in. These cars simulate water cars or even molasses cars in service on narrow gauge lines.

Here is my inspiration for my Veteran's Day parade scene on my layout.  This is a news photo from Keyser, WV this weekend.  You are seeing only 1/10 of the entries.  Most of the fire departments, law enforcement agencies, VFW and American Legion posts, and many more organizations show up. It's a small town that puts on a big show. GOD luv'em!

Are we setting a trend? A Military layout for Veterans Day. Both my kids are on a military kick. The older one 11 yrs. watches the History Channel when they have WWII stuff on. My younger guy, 7 yrs., likes playing army wearing a bicycle hemet and using a piece of Hot Wheels track for a rifle. So I couldnt resist putting a little floor layout together for them.

Let's smoke things up a bit..

This is the tunnel entrance on the grand canyon part of the layout. (under construction, but you can't see that ) Right in front of the tunnel there is a railroad crossing, this time I made an isolated section of rail to trigger the signal lights, so there is no ugly sensor between the tracks...

0-5-0 the engine the other way round and you see this..

In the city part, a bit of the elevated roads are made.

On the grand canyon part, the santa fe express train rounds the lizzard rock.

Lizzard rock is an awkard bit of stone, they couldn't blast everything away, so it became half a tunnel.

On the bottom of this photo you can see my new control board, at the back the hill where the forrest will grow in a few weeks time. There is a small road across the forrest where my new fränklin mint tankcar can "drive".

And some smoke to cover the unfinished landscape..

Dave V. - Once again, you have stretched the envelope of toy trains. You have always impressed me with your creativity and the ability to take things (e.g. washers and bolts) and turn them into running trains.
