An HO or N layout won't shake the house to it's foundations like an O Gauge layout will!
What else can I say Becky? My first train set was a Life-Like HO set. But I grew up watching TM Book & Video's "I Love Toy Trains" episodes 4, 5, and 6 (the DVD was a holiday present for my big brother as I remember. Not sure from who. And I was the only one between me and my three brothers who was into trains! Yeah, me the only non-male kid in the house )I always wanted the trains in those videos... I especially loved the 362 Barrel Loader, standard gauge Blue Comet, and the MPC Amtrak GG1. Made the switch to "big stuff" starting when I was 12 and I never really looked back.Thought I'd kicked HO to the curb for good, until I helped a friend run his HO layout at a show. A woman came up to us with two massive containers of HO from her household she was trying to find a home for- she gave them to us. Inside I quickly spotted some Lionel boxes and before I knew it I found myself with my first postwar Lionel HO set. Apparently HO wasn't finished with me!I still stand by my O and S as the big shots of my collection- the HO is a fun compliment to the bigger stuff. It gives me something neat to show off to HO folks and potentially make them a little jealous It's become easy to get addicted to, since it's a totally new range of items to keep an eye out for- but HO doesn't make the ground shake, nor does it let sparks fly quite as much, or click and clatter quite as loudly. I have a Lionel 2025 and an AF 312 calling to me- and an AF 21085 that's been patiently waiting for me to rebuild its smoke unit. Many other projects in the wings... about time to see to some of them.-Ellie

I woke up to 6 degrees and sunny this morning. It has already climbed to 23 sunny degrees. The highs for the rest of the week will hover right around freezing or slightly above. Tomorrow and into Wed we are supposed to see that wonderful stuff called "wintery mix" which means its gonna be messy.

the shipping season has started so the harbor cam should start to show some activity. The ice breakers arrived last week to break up the ice in the harbor, boats that were tied up here for the winter were at the gas pumps over the weekend, and the first boat has come through the ariel lift bridge. Now we will be hearing the boats and the bridge calling to one another. There is still ice outside of the harbor too that is moving back and forth between Minnesota (Park Point) and Wisconsin with every wind change.
The baggage carts that you and your daughter assembled look great. Its nice when you have a family memeber who enjoys working on your hobby with you, and she does such nice work.

Mornin' guys and gal(s). Sunny and 28, but "real feel" in the teens. On went the pellet stove. As seen on SPF, Alexis and I built a couple baggage carts. They seemed too big, until I placed them on the layout. Also attempted to apply some plaster Woodland Scenics rock molds to the new scenery, with blah results. Will just stick with drywall compound, as that is what works for me.
Watched 3 good Nascar races this weekend.
Weather out here in Western MA has been a mix of some really beautiful days and some gloomy, rainy ones. Today was a little chilly but the sun snuck out here and there.I finally caved and bought parts from Trainz.com to fix my 1961 Lionel 0635 pacific. I also got around to trying to rebuild the smoke unit. I haven't been able to find any original motors for sale so my solution is to convert it to be powered by a DC can motor. In the long run this should give me a clearer concience with running it for extended periods of time- I'm still wary of the Lionel HO motors being weak to overheating.I also had bought two new cars for the HO collection- an 0864-300 Alaska Railroad boxcar and what I believe is an 0836-100 Alaska Railroad hopper car. Also an (unfortunately) repainted 0537 ALCo FA. It didn't run, but I got lucky with it as the fault could be traced to two of the commutator segments who's adhesive had failed, loosing them from the commutator. I carefully glued them back, and after a few hours of cleaning everything and replacing the wiring (and traction tires) she runs beautifully. Has an ugly Penn Central paint job, my plan is to use this engine as the basis for something I've been wanting to do- create a "replica" of the HO B&M ALCo that Lionel made a prototype for, but never produced. Being a fan of the B&M, and an owner of a 217, it's a project I've been wanting to tackle ever since I discovered Lionel "almost" made one in HO. A project to made headway in as the weather gets warmer.I need to remember to get back to my O and S gauge projects, all this HO business is fun but I think I'm missing the "big stuff" a little.-Ellie
43 and snohizo-ing sideways (sort of) along the Alleghany front range. FifeMax was outside trying to bat it away with his frisbee. Might try to build some baggage carts that I got for Christmas. Or just eat , and watch the snow falling...sideways...
Afternoon, Cod on the north bluff, 40s in the day and 20s at night. Looks like that for the next ten if they are right. We will see.

I hear you! It'll be a relief when I can retire the quartz heater in the "Chugger Barn" for the season. It does a good job but needs a good two hours to bring the temp up to where it's comfortable.
Then it'll be four fan and swamp cooler season, but that's tolerable.
Mornin' guys and gal(s). Mostly cloudy and 41 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Grocery shopping today, ahead of Wifey's sisters visit tomorrow. Spring cleaning all done. I spent 3.5 hours outside yesterday doing yard work.
In the train room, applied plaster strips to Ft Mulligan section of the layout. Ms. Kelly ordered me something with flanges for my birthday (next month).
After 2 beautiful Spring days on Saturday and Sunday, with temps in the 50s, winter has returned. Temps will be in the 30s for highs for the next week. We also have predictions of rain, freezing rain and snow until Wednesday morning. Add wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour and we have perfect conditions for working on trains and reading. As I sit here I can listen to the wind rattling the siding.
Retirement and bad weather were made for each other.

Weather this weekend has ranged from 40 and rain to sunny and 70 here in mid Mo.
The high school robotics team I mentor was in action again this weekend, this time in Kansas City. My wife and I went and watched the meet.
Both the varsity and junior varsity teams competed. The varsity team made it to the finals, but only won one of the best two out of three matches. Narrowly lost the two. At least we made the winning alliance work for their win. They won the Quality in Engineering award.
This was the first meet ever for the junior varsity team. Out of 28 teams they were rated 11th going into the finals. They were chosen to be on the #4 seeded alliance. They advanced to the quarterfinals where they got eliminated by the #1 alliance.
We didn't have time to visit any of the train shops in the KC area, though.

Sunny and low 60s on The North Bluff. Daughter's 34th birthday and the first of Spring. Hard to beat that.
Had a very nice phone call yesterday with Don Baker. He gave me some pointers for getting better with all this. Man he had a lot worse ankle brake than I have and some good lessons for me.
Party later at the Daughter's place but we are going to stay put. We will catch up with her later.
Other than that not a lot to discuss.

Yesterday, we slipped back to Baltimore to spend the day with oldest princess and all three grandsons. Middle princess drove. Stopped by the cemetary to place bouquet on Mom's grave, then headed to Chuck E Cheese. Didn't eat there, but did get favorite pizza from Pizza John's, in Essex. It was a nice visit, but curlytop got a from a trampoline rasslin' match with his brother. I was sitting with youngest grandson on the way back, and he broke bad halfway home.
Did get to edit a little something special for SPF.
Fun day today so far. Changed the oil in Lady Firestorm's Soul, cleaned up yard brush (HOW does that much accumulate?) and made a dump run to get rid of it and drop the oil off at the recycling center.
Driving up and back, what can I say? They're all out today!

Was supposed to rain this morning, but nada. Mostly cloudy right now and 70F. A little humid, which, for now is ok.
Went shopping last night with Jenni, she had her portible tank, and was out a couple of hours.
Work today, then more attic work tomorrow, I've planned a roast beef dinner for tomorrow night, first I've done in a long time, so we'll see how that goes.
Jenni is still progressing and moving right along.

Kev, yeah it ain't easy, 42 days on her back and walking is a chore, but she's trying. O2 helps, but the more effort she puts in the less the oxygen she will need. Her body will take over soon enough. I can imagine how you feel, I'm pretty much home bound with Jenni, but we pick our spots, I have to shop later and get crickets for her frogs. Hope to get her out in the sun later (Fife - Yup, you are correct about that!!!).
Just like Kev, I'm not doing too many trains until we get the housing handled.
Still have a LOT to go through here at Mom's, Sunday will be another clean and purge day. The Christmas stuff is pretty much done. Garage is next, when the weather gets warmer.
3 more weeks and my future SIL gets out of Navy boot camp. The Princess is doing well on her own and will be heading to Great Lakes to go see the ceremony. We can watch it live on Facebook, I think.
OK - off to do more work.

We did pick up the new Shark vacuum yesterday, then Youngest Princess ran the carpet cleaner downstairs, even in the train room. Feels clean and crispy underfoot.

Jenni had PT yesterday and I took her out for a walk in the wheelchair after work, it was chilly but she needed to get out in the sun.
Watched Pam and Tommy on Hulu - 2 episodes and in between, I made Tacos for dinner and a cherry pie for dessert.
Jenni has her home health nurse coming in later. One of her friends is coming by tonight, I have to figure out dinner yet.
Not much else right now, just trying to get by.
Prayers for healing for all in need, KRM hope you are doing better.
