Mornin' gal(s) and guys. A frosty 23 degrees along the Patterson Creek cut-off, where love is in the air. My wife made sure that I would spend some quality with someone who loves me, so she made FifeMax a VET appointment this morning...
. I mean....
I sure don't have anything to complain about this Valentine's Day.
Instead of chocolate Lady Firestorm got me two bottles of Osborne sherry! Just the thing for chilly evenings!
Nothing says love like a good grade of liquor, at least in the Fortress Flintlock.
Happy Valentines Day!
Here is the joint gift that we gave to each other. It was nice to wake up to these beauties on a sunny and chilly -9 degree morning. Spring will come some day.

It may be cold here in the Northland but we have neighbors with big warm hearts. This molded ice heart appeared this afternoon in the snowbank in front of our house. An example of Minnesota n'ice.

Smart wife you've got there Wayne! But then, we already knew that!
Same me, different spelling!
Good mornin' guys and gal(s). Sunny and warmer in the Potomac Highlands. Will take down the red hearts outside, and put up the green shamrocks. Shopping day, including a stop at Lowe's.
In the train room, still working on getting the layout underside organized. Still tossing boxes from our move to WV (5 years ago). Located a K-Line C&O wide vision caboose that was burried away. K-Line was cranking out some fabulous rolling stock before their troubles.
Good afternoon, all......
Jenni was moved to rehab yesterday. Some issues we need to handle but we'll see if she stays there. I have a ton of paperwork to do with her. She REALLY want to start her PT and alas, nothing as of 1245 eastern. I'll be there just after work tonight.
If my Princess moves, I'll have a TON of trains to move. I don't doubt I'll find stuff I forgot I had. I know I have an almost brandy new Western Maryland set, which I got for almost nothing.....an NJ Transit set with add on car, still in the boxes....depending where I end up, I'm either going have no room in a basement or a bedroom full of trains.
47 today as the high, the sun was out a bit ago and has since clouded up. 60F tomorrow. May have to open the windows and air the place out.
Fife - you are getting ready for St. Paddy's day and Mom's Christmas Tree is still up....
Just a quick flyby - check back later on

That's right, Saint Patrick's Day is coming! I've got to dig out the Irish Tricolor, the Irish Brigade and "Erin go Bragh" flags as well. I've got time.

Flint - I was thinking more along the lines of Guns & Hoses. Attended a police funeral up in Philly, and when they turned the corner, it was I-m-p-r-e-s-s-I-v-e.
Good afternoon
Day 2 of Jenni's rehab, not going so well, issues with one or two of the staff - PT has started and she has her sneakers. We'll see tonight. I brought her 2 slices from our favorite pizza place for dinner and that made her smile.
68 now, windy. Should drop down soon, expecting rain later.
I may run over to get my HazMat refresher course at the FD if I can, it is drill night, haven't been since December. I have to take care of her piggies and frogs afterwards. Might be a long night......
Not much on the train front - I spent too much last month, but I don't regret it too much. I have some nice stuff for the layout. I have the Menards Valley Dealership which is now a Plymouth dealer with my '70 road runner convertible on the roof rotating around, lol. That needs some work, just need the time to do it. It is pretty cool.
That's all from here for now
After reading Rich's post, I realized that under my tv are two Knick-knacks, Kermit and Ms Piggy, with the words "Take a leap of faith".
Mornin' guys and gal(s). Sunny & 34 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. S'posed to get up to the 60's today, so Ms Kelly wants to get out for the day. Haven't discussed which direction we'll head.
Spent weekend watching all the NASCAR races, and continued working under the layout. Only thing left is organize the closet in the train room.
Today is Mom's birthday (1st since her passing). Maybe eat a little seafood, drink a little wine, and listen to a little Patsy Cline.
Today is Day 1 of our two day snow event.
Currently it is 14 degrees with blustery winds that are moving the snow around.
On clear days we can see Superior Wis and parts of St Louis Bay from these views.
The forecast is for 6 - 10 inches here in Duluth. Other parts of the Northland may get up to 15+ inches.
In my heart I know that spring is coming.
Greg
Was sunny and 70 today here in mid Mo. Heading to a high of 30 tomorrow.
No train news, as I have been busy mentoring the local high school robotics team. After a long four day weekend thrash, the kids got the robot assembled today. Once the programming group gets the code they have been working on loaded into the robot, they will be ready to bring the robot to life. We've got about 2 weeks until our first competition to debug the thing and give the drive team some practice time.
Mornin' guys and gal(s). A little damp and mild in the Potomac Highlands.
Wifey and my roadtrip led us to Shanksville, PA, where we visited the Flight 93 Memorial. Combination of pretty weather and holiday, there were plenty of other couples and a family or two. We skipped the visitors center and went right to the site. It's a quiet, solemn location. There were friendly staff at memorial to answer any questions.
Our usual Italian eatery was closed, so we had dinner at our go-to sports pub. Had the shrimp basket and a Bahstan Lahga.
Was watching the Duluth Harbor live cam last night, and Wifey asked where that nasty weather was happening... Perfect locale for a Polar Bear plunge, me thinks.

Temps here in the Richmond area are going up to 70, and 73 tomorrow, with rain.
Don't hate us, please!
Good afternoon!!
Jenii continues to make progress, walked a total of 44 feet in 2 different times yesterday. Her strength and stamina need to improve and that will with her PT.
More cleaning and dusting, I bought 2 tables, one with 2 shelves for my printer, since I work from home and another for my TV room, with a door on it, to put my books and other materials away, eveything is off the floor.
With those 2 tables (stand by for train related information), I got a Marx Western Pacific set (#7925?) with a 702 switcher. It needs some cleaning but runs and I'll need to check the light operation, but for $14 I ain't complaining. Came with a 1025 transformer and a bunch of tubular track. The 2 tables and trains were a total of $23.
Most of the train stuff here has been consolodated in 1 room. Once the house is cleaned, I can redecorate. Already took over the cable/internet. And that was a fiasco that took an hour and 10. What a joke. But it's done now.
I'll be looking into streaming services at some point, but I have access to Prime, Netflix and Youtube in 1 room for nada, and that's my kinda price.
60 and rain here right now -

Day 2
Still snowing today. It slowed down for a few hours overnight. The wind is not as strong today but it is still moving the snow into big banks. The storm prediction has been extended into the early hours of Wednesday. Its 6 degrees at the moment.
fife,
The polar plunge here took place 2 weeks ago. Now we are just dealing with arctic blasts.
Northwoods - It's amazing watching those big freighters sometimes being tossed around before they can get to the safety of the canal. Can you see that drama from your house at times...?
Good Morning!!
Up to 70 and rain today. Temps drop on tomorrow, which sucks, I need to clean out the garage.
Jenni is making more progress, walked further than the day before. Progress is good. Brought her a pepper and egg sandwich from out favorite Italian place.
Took a quick look at the train related stuff in Jenni's basement, if we agree that she moves in with me, there is a LOT of train and HO slot car stuff that gets moved. I don't even want to think about the stuff over the Princess's/my house.
On with the work day..................
Mornin' guys and gal(s). Balmy today, winter returns overnight. Ms. Kelly wants to buy some saplings for planting, mulch for the front flower bed, and a new flag. Saplings will have to spend a few nights in our greenhouse (aka garage).
anjdevil - good to hear of Jenni's improvement. Slow down some, if you can...
Good Morning Folks,
Well the storm is over! Depending on which source you listen to the amount of snow that we got varies. Here in our part of Duluth the best estimate is 17". With the drifting some measurements are more, some less. Over toward the south shore in Wisconsin and upper peninsula of Michigan the totals were 30+ inches. The sun is currently out, the sky is a bright blue with a current temp of -2 degrees. We will have bitter cold the next few days before we "warm up" into the 20's for the weekend.
from our deck we can see boats coming and going at the ore docks. With binoculars we can watch boats coming and going into the harbor in Superior. We can see boats moving under the Blatnik Bridge coming into the inner harbor. We have to drive about a mile and we can see the panorama of Duluth and Superior and watch the boats come and go through the canal. Shipping on the Great Lakes will resume in Mid March when the Locks reopen. We can hear the boats sounding their horns and the Ariel Bridge answering. There is still a lot of rail traffic going on and we hear the horns daily.
anjdevil,
Prayers continue for Jenni.
Have a Great Day
Mornin' guys and gal(s). Awaiting some type of frozen precip over the next 24. Will head to the nearby DG in a bit to pick up bread and eggs.
Yesterday was beautiful, weather wise. Wifey picked out 3 trees; weeping willow, red maple, and crabapple. I will plant them after this cold snap. Did cover the front garden with red mulch, and the rear lawn with grass seed. Had burgers, brats, and beer for supper.
Northwoods -Rails & Sails
Duluth is one of my favorite places. What a great ship and rail town. I love standing on the pier and watching the lake boats come in under the lift bridge.

Evenin' FellasBeen a long 2 months... grr. Have been having PC problems (desktop and laptop) and just could not figure out what the hecht was going on. Well 2 weeks ago my desktop that I built 12 years ago and had to upgrade last fall took its trip over the mountain. Debated getting a new desktop till the laptop started acting up so TheQ said to buy a new laptop and deal with replacing the desktop next year... but as I was researching this laptop I think I'm just going to get a nicer laptop with a Thunderbolt port and go that route.Started getting quotes to have some painting done. The foyer and great room have 20 ft ceilings and those on the forum for over a decade know what happened to yours truly when I stayed on a ladder too long one day. This has turned into a bit of a project since TheQ has decided to get quotes to 'upgrade' the living room. We are still debating if we are staying in this house long term, or building again in a couple years. Trainroom is scheduled to get finished next Spring and depending on the last sentence I may or maynot build a layout here.Great to see Jenni is making progress! Can't remember what else I was going to say.

88 - This weekend is the RV Super Show up in Harrisburg, PA...
It's all about helping people.

I agree. It is also a great place to live. In spite of very cold winters and lots of snow it is a terrific place all year round. We retired here because most of our family still lives here. Being an international port it has a lot of things going on that you might not expect of a city in the Northwoods. It has a lot of history associted with rail and maritime commerce. I'm enjoying getting to know that history.
It is 1 degree above 0 at the moment with bright beautiful sunshine. It should be up in the 20's today with temps reaching into the 30's in the next two days.
Northwoods Fyer
Good afternoon.
Minor set back as Jenni has (again) contracted pneumonia. She's on anitbiotics. Making more progress, walking more everyday. Still gaining strength in her upper body, she took her 2nd shower yesterday, so slowly Jenni is getting back to some kind of normalcy.
Rained this morning, 45F now. Cold again tomorrow. Looks like the rehab center is going to boot Jenni on the 7th, but we will see. Much more PT has to happen.
Good to see LionRoar again!!
After much screamiong and yelling not to mention 4+ hours of MY time, the internet, phone and cable are back on line and in my name. I may return the cable boxes, looking like streaming is the way to go for max channels for minimal cost.
OK, back to work, may jump out early as overtime is verboten. And I still have to work tomorrow.
Mornin' guys and gal(s). Cloudy and 31 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. My engineer buddy called me yesterday, with the sad news that his 37 yr old son had passed away on Sunday (medical issue). All I can do is be a friend.
anjdevil - Thanks for the update, and continued for you both.
Good Morning
Slept late yesterday, went to Home Depot for some stuff and headed to Jenni's to do some home repairs and feed her animals. The door closer on her screen porch broken, so I replaced it. Door closes much better and stays shut. Just need to sand down the door to fit the opening. The door is so way off, the top has a 1 inch gap. I may address that at a later date, I'll need to secure the wood frame to the concrete base at some point. Another time.
Spent the rest of the night with Jenni, left at 945. We had dinner together. She is feeling better, still dealing with the pneumonia. She has a CT scan tomorrow, I'll be taking her, since no insurance pays for the transport.
Sunny and 31F now, with bright sun. 37F later.
