I see the UP Big Boy 4014 is running through Chicago this weekend. Wonder if DougM will be going to see it? Huh? I would love to drive up I39 to see her here. Big Boy No. 4014 will make a stop at the Rochelle Railroad Park around 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30.

One of the posters on the "Trains" Forum had the Big Boy pass under his balcony today!  I told him he should have sold tickets!  Would have made a few bucks!

Good evening from 74°F Southern Ohio

It was a beautiful day and only got up to 88° today.

My bride is feeling much better.  Her pain is being controlled with Tylenol and not the “hard” oxy stuff.  The nerve down her arm is getting a lot better too.  Thank you all for your prayers, they are the best medicine.

We cut grass most of the day, looks good.  I never cut last week when it was so hot, so it needed cut.

Mike - Congrats on the win.

Kev – Keep up the good work!  We have some coons in a hollow beech tree but up to this point they have behaved.

Roy – Good job on the fix.

Banks – Prays for your daughter

Need to go

May God bless you and your families

Jim

Good evening all,

Kevin, I would go for it if there was any way possible.  How many chances would any of us have to see a machine like that in action.  Quiet day today.  Went to see grandkids perform in a home school play.  Long day.  Going to Mid-Ohio this weekend.  Surprise, surprise, Mattheus Liest was 7th quick in second practice today for AJ's team.  Hope the trend continues this weekend.  Seeing a top 10 again would be nice.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

TGIF!!!!!!

It was Mopar Night at the local Friendly's last night, so I took the car to work.
The road runner performed flawlessly again, cleaned up pretty good and still won....nothing....lol.  Really don't care, still had a good time with Jenni (She in her 440 Charger SE) at the car show.

Temps going up to the 90's this weekend, but clear skies until possibly Wednesday?

I think Jenni and I are taking the weekend off.  My brother and sister in law are coming up from DC, so we'll skip the car show and hang with the family.

Saw the doc on Wednesday and put me back on BP meds. My stress level is way down with the job and relationship, so, not sure why it's up.....I've been exercising and lost 4 pounds since April, I'll pick up my meds later today.
I have no time for malls, I can barely go shopping for food...lol.  When they had arcades back in the 80s and 90s, I was a staple there.......

OK, I think I'll go back to work now....lol

Will check back later.................

Mornin' boys.  Sunny and 62, on a string of pleasant weather along the Alleghany front range.  Wifey coming home today; party's over...

Took youngest princess practice driving yesterday.  We headed down to our property outside of Romney to plop a "for sale" sign on it.  She did ok, for being her first time on the road with the Durango.  We stopped up on the mountain top to visit my folks,  then returned back to the rancher and prepared tacos.

Got an out-of-the-blue call from the oldest step-son last night.  Seems he moved down the street from the yatchett's marina, and saw the other "for sale" sign on it, and called me up.  He had lost service with his old phone, as well as his contacts.  He's 35 now, and works on a crab boat.

Unless you can erase the hunter/gatherer gene within us, there will always be the need for a place to go shopping.  It must be clean.  It must have a friendly atmosphere.  And perhaps most important, it must be free of miscreants who are bent on ruining such venues.

My 2 Cents

Great evening all!!!!!

We won!!!!!   We are the champions!!!  It took 50 minutes of regulation, 2 5 minute overtimes, and a set of Penalty Kicks to determine the winner.  Yours truly got an assist in OT with a few seconds to go.  It WAS a beautiful night!   Every once in a while, life IS good.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Afternoon all!

Got the El Cam carb fuel input 'rescue' fitting modified on the lathe and got it to draw up tight to the carb body with the gasket. Not totally confident the way the 'rescue' fitting gasket works is going to work. Decided to leave the Q-Junk internal fuel filter out as the rescue fitting is not really made for repeat performances. So I picked up an in line fuel filter to install between the frame fuel rail and the mechanical fuel pump. Will try to get that installed tomorrow. Also picked up a new battery as the old one would not hold a charge. Once the fuel filter and battery are installed we can try and fire it up. It was running in the spring so not anticipating an issue (other than a possible fuel leak at the carb rescue fitting).

Kev - I have dealt with a monster raccoon in a trap in the boat dock attic. Whatta mess - pooped everywhere while banging the cage around. Good riddance I say!

DJ - hopefully you got your doc to look at the shoulder also? You didn't mention it.

Regards, Roy

Hi guys, been humping my rear off the last few days trying to get some stuff done before the next heat wave. Been re-building the old picnic table we have had since we bought this land 15 years ago. Like most of those projects the more I did the more it needed. Started out to be a pressure wash and stain job. Had to re-do the legs and one seat because of rot. Treated wood is not what it used to be.  Got the legs done and the bottom stained and will flip it over tomorrow and finish it up.
So yesterday the wife sees that a racoon had destroyed the bluebird house and got the eggs. Second time this year. That set her on the warpath and I had to set the live trap last night. At about 2:00am I see the trap is gone??? So, I go out and find that it was about 25’ from where I had set it up with a monster coon in it. Huh? Got the 22LR down and went out and gave him a lead pill. End of that. What a mess it was to clean up this morning. Blood all over the place and it was already stiff and did not want to fall out of the trap. After I chucked the sucker in the west ravine, I washed the trap and got it ready to set again tonight. I figure there is a pack of them so we will get one at a time till their gone or get smart.
Closest mall here is 22 miles away and empty. I blame Walmarts all over the place.
Banks, prayers for your daughter. Angel
Best get to it.

The main reason, in my humble opinion anyway, for the failures of a lot of malls and stores of various stripes is many of them now are owned by big comglomerates run by MBA-mill whizz-kids who DO have a basic knowledge of business but DON"T understand "down-and dirty" retail.  It's an art form all it's own.

If you don't understand the business you're in you can't make it work, and the only way to get a real understanding is to start in the trenches and work your way up.  Not saying an MBA is useless, but using it as a quick ticket to the executive suite is no panacea for real-world knowledge.

Look at it this way, you don't take a West Point graduate and issue him (or her) general's stars with the diploma.  They've still got a long way to go.

Morning folks!

Sunny, cool right now, high 80's today. Hit 90 yesterday and was very pleasant out.

Took the opportunity and pulled the Q-Junk carb off the El Cam. The fuel inlet/internal filter fitting is partially stripped and was leaking. Bought a 'rescue' fitting that is supposed to cut additional threads as you install it, but it did not work. Modifying the part on the lathe to see if I can make it work. Backup plan is to toss the internal filter, JB Weld the fitting into the carb body, and install an inline filter between the frame fuel rail and the fuel pump.

The malls that failed here were right on the interstates or major TX highway. I think a factor is there used to be multiple independent dept stores that sold different lines of clothes, appliances, etc. After Dillard's and Macy's bought all of them out they all carried the exact same clothing brands, appliances, etc. So no reason to have 4 malls in the same area selling the exact same stuff. The failures here started well before the Internet/Amazon shopping took off.

Banks - prayers for your daughter.

Regards, Roy

Hello there,                                              thanks for the prayers.

RE malls....I believe today's fast paced life style is largely the cause of their demise. People don't spend the day shopping as our parents did. They go to the store they want and go home.

Recently online shopping has hastened the demise.Large portions of the local mall have been turned into a community college keeping it afloat.

Thanks again for the prayers.

Best get on with the day.

I used to love talk radio a' la Rush, Glen Beck, G. Gordon Liddy (he was FUNNY!), et al, but gave it up about ten years ago, it was like someone threw a switch in my brain.

Maybe because I was going around PO'd over things all the time.  Oh well. I don't miss it.

Nice change from the heat. We did some garage cleaning yesterday. Todays high will be 83 and a downpour yesteray evening gave everything outdoors a good drink. No polyps till my last rooting so now she said 3 years. There were 7. I am very happy that I will not be cleaning all the windows in Brent's new house.

Mornin' Fellas

TheQ will be home tonight. Smile This was a short trip compared to her South Africa trip in September. Really wish I could go with her, but they didn't giver her any extra time to see the country and since we'll be moving into the new house around that time figured I would need vacation time to get the house ready.

Roy - Many of the malls that have been failing are doing so because of expensive rent, very poor location (have to drive 10+ minutes on side roads to get from the interstate to the mall, then back again). The successful ones are those with easy access to major roads and interstates. I also believe Kohls and Target are having a major impact on malls as well.

Fife - sounds like your week will be rather quiet. Smile

Anj - good to see you enjoying life! Lots of adventures! Smile

DonB - good new about the eye! Thumbs Up

Seems Buckeye and DougM are off seeing the world.

Evening!

Made it to 90 today, but it was very nice out! Used the opportunity to make some repairs to the back yard lawn sprinklers. Ended up replacing 5 spray heads as they were sticking or otherwise malfunctioning.

Supposed to have another nice day tomorrow.

DonB - Kev - I am also on the 5 yr 'plan'

DonB - good news re the eye!

Anj - you one busy dude!

Interesting - in the last 10 yrs 2 - what used to be very popular - local to my area - shopping malls have been torn down and the news just announced another will be redeveloped. That will leave just 2.

Good Evening,

Boy it sure got hot today 96, then the humidity up to 45%!

Fortunately, I finished my furniture project yesterday.  Just cleaned up the drawer slides and any touch up spots.  (Most of you probably know this for a sticky drawer, I ran a palm sander over the slide rails to make sure there wasn't any paint, then greased them down with Parafin Wax, it works really well.  The wax is about the size of a bar of soap, and just rub it on.)  Ended up doing two 3 drawer chest of drawers, a night stand, and a student desk.  The desk is going to be my new work station in the train room.

Good news my eye is doing well, still have the "blob" but its getting smaller.  Not looking forward to future shots though.

Banks your grandson looks awesome on the 4 wheeler!

Kev, Glad your tests came out good!  (My mom also had CC, so I am on the 5 yr schd, next year).

Dinner calling, take care all, and stay cool.

Don

Good Afternoon.....

Twas a very HOT weekend, Saturday I did ALL the yard work and later in the afternoon, Jenni and I took off for the Delsea Drive In in Vineland, NJ (This what she wanted for her birthday, so, that's what we did).  Just before we got to the drive in, we stopped in to the the Palace of Depression (https://m.facebook.com/thepalaceofdepression/) for some photos and a quick look see (it was closed).

We took the roadrunner and kept the top up, it was way too hot to have it down.  Ride down was nice, hot and uneventful.  The double feature under the stars was Spiderman: Far From Home and Annabelle Comes Home.  We left at 0100, I had a motel in Bridgeton about 20 minutes away, we had the top down and it was still 89F.  Spent the night, had breakfast at a diner outside of town and cruised on home, stopping for gas and water.....some idiot in a GLI from NY thought he was all that and at 105 MPH, I was at minimum 10 cars away from him.  He saw a whole lot of my tail lights....
We stopped at Urgent care for Jenni, she slipped on Thursday and Friday her foot was aching very bad and had got worse over the of the weekend, she has a fracture and is in a walking boot from 4 to 6 weeks.

Had a calzone for dinner as we watched Fast and Loud where they re-created the chase scene from Bullett....and STILL had to slow the Dodge down as it was still faster than the Mustang.....lol.

Yesterday, the system went down nationwide and I waited until 445 to leave, then the system came back up.  And, as usual, I had already punched out.......

It was in the mid 90s most of the day, got to softball and got Jenni set up and comfortable and then the storms came.  We went to Michael's (SPOOKY TOWN IS OUT!!) for some shopping then to dinner.
Rained and stormed most of the night, still raining off and on for the most part now.  Trees and wires down, traffic lights still out for the majority of my ride to work (Most of my travels are on I-295 in NJ, so it was a minor problem from home to the interstate).

Cooled off,  was 69F at 0600 this morn at home, 68F here in the shadow of Philadelphia.  Should all be done by tomorrow night.  We'll see if softball is on or not then.

Hope to get the Jetta financed and bought this week, payment for 4 years at $261/month, certified pre-owned.  All goes back to money...lol!

Phish - Glad the Mrs. is better!!

Kev - that is good news!

Brent - Good progress on the new abode!!  Time with the kids is always a great time!

Back to work, so will check in later!

Great day here, cooled off and you can do things outside again!!!

Thanks guys, I have had many polyps over the years and like ten scope jobs. As much as I hate the process it is probable these procedures have saved my life over the years.

Both of my parents died from colon cancer, mom at 32 and dad at my age, 67. I would suggest everyone have it done, cheap life insurance.
Off to Menards.

Woke up this morning, let Ginger the Attack Basset out, and temperature was 67 degrees, plus overcast and a light rain!  Thank you Lord!

Hopefully we've seen the last of that hellish heat wave.
