Evenin' boys.  Finally stopped raining in Fifedom.  Had nice visit with the oldest princess's clan.  It was great to be around the grandsons, and we spent a lot of time in the train room.  Presented oldest boy with a LIONEL Marine Corp missle launch car, which he went ga-ga over.  After they left to head back to Baltimore, started working on bringing BIL's Seaboard 602 back to life.

Any day with the grandkids is a good day

Doug......great story on the B29. Love seeing the B17 and B24 from the Collins Foundation when they are at the local airport.

Good evening all,

Should have worked outside today as it was much cooler.  Did a puzzle with wife and watched TK go from 22nd to 7th for AJ at Detroit.  Put together a Plasticville building and a Lifelike kit for the railroads.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Evening,

Had a good day and weekend, went to local train meet this AM, talked with Ray and a couple other friends.  Didnt buy much just a RR patch.

I mentioned the other day about my JLC Big Boy, had it in a train shop since first of March, picked it up on Friday.  He didnt even have the parts or order confirmation.  TODAY I was able to get the parts on order, with a confirmation of the order.  Hopefully ordered the correct parts.

Had kinda of an unusual experience with my El Camino, the past few days.

- Three years ago, had the Air Shocks replaced by F...stone.  (Air shocks are standard on the El Camino, and haven't really much of a problem ever since I've had the car, bought it new.)  So they replace them and it isn't really driven that much.  A year ago or so, after I had been increasingly been having to add air, decided to seem about getting them replaced, since they had a lifetime warranty.  I was told then the warranty covered the shocks, but not the labor.  So for whatever reason I didn't at that time.

- Last Thursday, I take it to the same store, they say the shocks are OUT of warranty, only 2 year warranty on air shocks!  I was surprised, and indicated I would go check my paper work.  The rep, (turns out service manager), said he would further investigate the term of the warranty, and call me back on Friday.  In the meantime set up an appointment for Monday, to do the job.  Estimate with warranty approval was $175, ($130 labor, new air line $15, $25 labor for airline.)

- Friday afternoon, havent heard anything.  Called the store talked with a different rep, asked him the status.  He told me the shocks were NOT under warranty and cost would be $445.  So Friday afternoon decide to check a couple other places.  Check a smaller shop I have worked with before, and they will do same thing for $289.  Well thats a no brainer.  Ask them about the air lines, they said no problem that it is included in the box, and labor is part of the job.  (The shocks are the same manufacturer and model number at both locations.)  I was suspcious of the air line on the right side, because I had checked them looking for a leak.  And found the right line pinched between the frame and shock mounting bracket.  Asked the installing tech to look at that for me.  He did and indicated it was severly pinched, completely closed.  And most probably caused the failure of the right shock.  So Friday evening I was very happy, new shocks, saved $160.  Disappointed in F...stone, initial error of pinching line at installation, warranty misrepresented, and extra charges for air line kit.

 - Saturday, get a call Saturday PM from the person I orginally talked to on Thursday, saying he was able to get the warranty coverage.  And the original quote of $175 is valid.  He asked to confirm the appointment.  I said OK to buy me some time.

- Today, Sunday - Decide to go by the store and tell them to cancel the Monday appt, and share my feelings, regarding the warranty and initial installation.  After I tell the Service Manager about my conversation with his store on Friday.  He said that it was not right, and the person that indicated there was not warranty did not the authority to say that.  And even though I got it done at a lower price, I still paid a $100 more than I should have, and offered to give me $100 !  I was shocked !

Sorry for "another" long story, but never experienced anything like this before.

Doug dg, The B-29 video was great, thanks for sharing.

Take care all......later

Good evening all, almost Midnight here.  It was nice to see Don and Kay today at the TTOS meet.  I didn't buy anything either except a bad pulled pork sandwich but a good donut for desert.  Talked to Don's friend Bob quite a bit before Don came.  Bob says he is suffering from back problems or something making it difficult for him to walk.  He sort of limped in when I saw him.  Hope he gets some relief soon.  Don, that was quite a story about the car repairs.  Some of those things turn into nightmares.  Glad you got yours resolved.  I no sooner got home and nodded off for a nap after lunch when my friend from church called and wanted to invite himself over tonight to share some cheesecake.  We were just out to dinner together last night.  I think this guy needs more friends than me.  Maybe I'm an old grouch but once I get settled I don't like to change the program for the day.  I told him I would take a rain check.  He is a good friend though and helps me when I need something.  My brother in Virginia is on Hospice now.  He was in the hospital for a few days following some kind of episode. The doctor told him that there is nothing else that they can give him for the cancer.  So far chemo and radiation have done nothing to slow it down.  The doctor sent him home and recommended Hospice.  I'm glad I went back there while I had the chance.  It doesn't look good for the future for him.

Did anybody catch the story on "Roadside America" this morning on CBS ? Pretty good short.

Yes I saw it Doug, it was a good clip. I wonder if it will stay open for long after the sale?

Finished watching the races on TV yesterday at Joliet. I don't know why on TV they say Chicago but I guess close is good enough for Fox Sports. The TV coverage did seem to be better than it used to be on ESPN. They really run them through fast so they can't cram to many adds in. John Force was in a bad hit to the wall on Saturday but came back to race Sunday.

The wind was wild yesterday. We got stuff all over the yard and two trees down in the wood. One is a live oak,,I will need to harvest that one.

What a deal to go through Don!

Happy Birthday Chief  = more free food!!  CakeHappy B-DayBeerYeah

Best do something.

My new trolley arrived this weekend along with the stuff i needed to complete the circle within the oval.  Traction cars have to be on a separate line from the freight train.  Its a rule we use in Indiana: never share track if you can avoid it.  Dont worry about the cost.  Chapter eleven is our friend.

Aloha and happy June! Beautiful day today. Cool and sunny. Dropped the bride off at O'Hare for her trip out east on Saturday, and then drove on to enjoy a Sox game with the middle boy (our annual trip) even though they lost. Visited w my brothers family in the city yesterday - i had to bring him some rifles from my mom's house that belonged to him - and that I didn't want to carry on the train or through downtown. . .

Roy, do you ever find any train items at your flea markets? Those ignition wrenches sound like a great find.

Happy birthday Chief - hope you feel celebrated today!

Buckeye, prayers for your mom's transition and for your family.

Rich, I grew up listening to radio ads for drag racing at Englishtown - 'Funny cars! Funny cars! Funny cars!'

Gnome, I built a traction-themed layout once - trolleys and interurbans used to criss-cross the midwest. I look forward to hearing about your kitbashed doll house.

Doug, that was a neat video- I remember seeing the Collins Fdn flyover of a B-24 and B-25 years ago.

Fife, that Marine Corp car was a great gift idea!

Ray, prayers for your brother...

DonB, the Chicagoland Motor Speedway is outside Joliet. I used to watch ARCA (now owned by NASCAR) races there - couldn't afford the big ones. Their drag strip track is great

Morning gang!

Raining hard and storms this morning. 75 headed to high of 82 today. Totally unpredicted until last night's news. Might rain on and off through the afternoon.

Had to take the '09 Tahoe into the dealer today. Just happen to notice the left front tire is nearly bald on just the inside thread. If the wheels hadn't been turned when I parked at the flea market Fri, I would not have noticed it. Have not hit any potholes or anything so maybe something in the suspension just wore out. And the drivers door and rear passenger door lock solenoids are not working, so getting it all done. My Chevy dealer and been very honest and reasonable on repairs and always give me a free loaner. Got an '18 full size crew cab pickup to drive this time. Glad I am used to driving big vehicles!

Happy B-Day Happy Birthday Chief! Happy B-Day

I did not know the Hooterville Express ran all the way to Charlotte! Laugh

DougM - trains at flea markets down here are very rare, and when they do show up, they are always the lowest end starter set stuff and the (unknowledgeable) sellers want 3x top dollar for beat up/dirty stuff.

DonB - I just got my El Camino back from the guy that got it running. It looks bad but drives. He removed the computer, torched off/sealed the AIR tubes to the headers, cut out the fried wiring under the hood. Set the advance at a mid-point since without the computer the HEI distributor will not advance. So later this summer will be looking at a repaint (original paint from '84 was one of first years of the water based automotive paints, so it basically wore off). If I can get a reasonable repaint, then will look at engine ignition/fuel mods. Looking at the New Holley EFI system. Looks like a carburetor and bolts on as such, with the electronics built into the carb/EFI body. Will also control distributor advance. Here in TEXESS a vehicle over 20yrs old no longer has to pass emissions tests, just safety inspection, so I can ditch the engine computer, catalytic converter, AIR pump, etc. If those things are successful then will attack the interior. Dash vinyl is cracked, headliner is out (pressed foam that cracked) and the fabic separated from the foam anyway, window seals are all trashed. Needs new wheels and tires. Big project - or if any stage becomes as issue I will just sell it. Engine and tranny are strong/good and body is straight.

I also watched the 'Chicago' races and saw John Force's crash. Rough one. They said he has crashed in 3 or 4 of his last 9 races. May be time to retire?

Regards, Roy

Roy, I think your right about Force. He looked hurt after that hit.

Nice day here like DougM said,

Wifey is pissed. Last night a racoon got up the pipe and cleaned out all the peanut butter on her feeding log so that got her going. So I had to grease the pipe but to make matters worse I saw where the same critter climbed up a tree and raided one of the bluebird nest. Knocked the door open pulled the nest out and ate the 4 babies. Looks like a live trap is in order and then a lead pill.  Always something out here in the wood. Just can't win with the wildlife. Bang Head

Huh?  Someone asked if Route 66 raceway was on old RT66, Yes it is. It is on what is now RT53 south of Joliet that was part of RT66 before 1940 when RT66 it was re-routed west through Plainfield on RT126 and south on RT59 to bypass Joliet.

Kevin, not sure the critter in the linked video would make the road trip from Pekin to your place but you may have a neighbor with the same mindset as his caretaker.

Good Afternoon from an absolutely beautiful 80°F Southern Ohio,

There is a cool breeze sunny skies and fluffy clouds.  It is hard to stay at work on such a beautiful day.  It was a busy weekend but we had a good time.  Friday was grass cutting and marking sapling stumps to grind out hopefully this coming weekend.  I also prepped for another pile of limbs to burn.  Saturday we went to the Wilds, it was really nice.  Lots of exotic animal is open range.  We were in an old school bus with the top removed and a canopy bimy top riding around the reservation.  It was nicer than I’m make it sound as I re-read this.  Sunday was celebrating Corpus Christi with a Eucharistic procession from one of the Churches in town to another about half a mile away and in the evening we burned brush and bride had smoked ribs and German potato salad for supper.

Kev - I’ve put metal roofs on two houses and I really like them.  There are a lot of advantages to metal.  Very cost efficient and looks good.  The only drawback I see is they are more difficult to walk on.

Chief - Happy Birthday

May God bless

Today is the Chief's Birthday!

 Cake Gift Happy B-Day

Wow he is older than dirt! In fact he knew dirt when it was still a rock. The Chief makes dirt look good, too. I heard the Roseyville Fire Department was called to his house to put out a "cake" fire.

Did anyone get invited to the Chief's Big Party and help him eat his cake?

Image result for train birthday cake

I sent him a new Lionel Big Boy and did not get invited again this year.

Good evening all,

Quiet day at work, which was good as some intestinal issues were working on me.  Nice temps at noon for walk and felt good enough tonight to practice with junior high kids and do some long overdue tree trimming. Got Trains and MR today as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Cool and overcast along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  All rivers are swollen, and over their banks, and possibly more rain today.  Fifedom fighting sinus issues.

The Seaboard 602 is running pretty good.  All cleaned up and shined.  Lemon Pledge on shell restored its luster.  WD40 on frame and truck sideframes.  CRC2-26 on wheels and pickup rollers.  Dug out 6 decades of grease.  Rebuilt the horn, but relay is sticking.  Not sure sister wants the nephew wearing the horn out; her call.

Morning from a cool and sunny North Bluff above Marseilles, they say 82 for the high. Nice!

Well that racoon tore up some flower beds then headed to the bird feeder and peanut butter log where he could not get up the pipe because of the grease. Then he decided to eat the happy mix I left for him.  Dinner 50% sugar with 50% Borax. Bet he has a gut ache today. Ick!Whistling

So wife has to re-do the flower beds today and I am going to get the neighbor's live trap so I can get that guy tonight.  Hmm

swede, good read. We live in rural IL. The racoons were here first and don't seem to plan on moving to town. My wife is the problem coming from downtown Plainfield out here into the wood with the town habbits with feeders and bird loving. So it is what it is,I guess. Laugh

Never ends. Bang Head

Guys, we could use some of that rain!

I almost bought Da Chief a BD presant this morning. The grocery store had INSTANT grits on sale.

Kev my wife wants to know what you greased the pole with.

My layout is set up on those folding white tables you can get at Menards.  A few minutes ago i happened to be in KnMart for no good reason.  They had a six footer on sale for $39.  What has the train hobby done to me? I never used to be an impulse shopper.

now, which direction should the layout expand.  Hmmm

Thanks gang for the B'day wishes.  Even Buckeye was nice.  Surprise [sort of]

Train rides were nice.  Got held up between Burlington and Durham by AmTrak train headed to FL.  It had been held by NS freights.  We met two on dual lines.  Man we were fast but they were flying too.  Rough tracks in Durham.  Too many switches.  Engineers are rough on the brakes.  Fly into station and screech.

Rough tracks in Durham.

If they didn't make you ride in the smell cattle car, you would find the ride much better.  LaughSmile, Wink & Grin

When I ride the train they provide me with a nice shiney car.

They also provide me with a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

And the scenery was better than Roseyville.

Afternoon all,

Finally able to enjoy some spring weather! It's been nice having the A/C off since Friday.

Not much on the go. Gearing up for the Mrs.'s hip surgery next week. A family friend dropped off a walker and a "grabber" for her to use. I'll be extra busy for a few weeks.

Banks (or any Easterners) - Did you happen to catch UP 1943 going through Altoona/Horseshoe Curve area on the weekend?

Chief - Happy Belated Birthday!

Kev- I remember my grandfather had a similar problem except with squirrels. Problem was solved after shooting its tail off with a .22.......

Buckeye - Nice pics!

Have a good one and prayers.
