Happy Thanksgiving from cool 32°F clear Southern Ohio,
It was quiet around here as the grandkids went to spend the day with the other grandparents since the kid's cousins were coming in from out of town. My bride and I went to Mass then to Rural King to take advantage of some items on sale. We had a tree blow down the past week so I cut it up and cut the stump lower to the ground, put up a few bird feeders and mulched some more leaves. We had dinner and my sister-in-law's the drove mother-in-law home and we just got home.
Bob, Buckey & Don – good to see you posting again.
Buckeye – It is nice to be wanted isn't it?
So much to be thankful for, God is good! Good night and may God bless
Jim
Good Evening! (4th attempted reply - summarized version)
- Great Day here, MIL & FIL shared dinner with us.
- Was going to put up outside decorations today, but WAY to hot to be on the roof! Over 90+, hopefully tomorrow.
- Dennis, you are so right on about Calif, all the taxes and silly laws, much less the cost of living. Absurd ! I think your solution is correct also.
- Kev, your post was really great! Very heartfelt and so appropriate for Thanksgiving. Brought back a LOT of memories for me.
- Fife, Thanks for asking. Kay is really doing well 3.5 years cancer free! She is really doing well!
- New Changes: We are finally becoming empty nesters. Chris took a position as Environmental Issues Manager at a "rare-earth" mine located about 50 miles outside of Las Vegas, 3 weeks ago. A very lucrative position, he is getting an apartment there, and planning on buying a house soon. He just bought a 2018 Subaru WRX, this week.
- Ive been rebuilding my layout, totally new track configuration, and all new wiring. Lots and lots of work!
Hope everyone has a great week-end.
Don
Morning Gang!
Bright and sunny today and might hit 70?
Recovering from yesterday. The family had a great time! It was good to get together.
Hey Buckeye, hope you make York in the spring! That would be great!
Good to hear all here had a great day yesterday!
DonB - that's great about Chris' new position!
Regards, Roy
Morning all.
Well somehow we over slept for Black Friday LOL. Whew!!. We went to one and that was enough for us. I believe it was like 1994/95 time frame. Wife still resting from yesterday lol. For two people we sure make a lot of food. I guess the cats will be getting turkey for the next few days, as we can't eat it all. we have looked at just getting breast but by the time you buy that we can get a whole turkey as they make them so cheap at Thanksgiving you can get a whole turkey, sometimes less than just the breast, and it does give us some food for the cats. No real plans for today. Waiting for a couple of packages to be delivered. A engine for me ( 259 with tender ) the clock for the house ( christmas present from/for both of us, and a Purse for her for Christmas. Hope all have a good day. Talk to you all later.
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

Morning, Nope, don't do Black Friday either!
Relaxing it off today, my neighbor Brain and I are heading into Plainfield to pick up the 500# of deer corn Mark brought home from up north for me. So there will be some more BS and beer this afternoon.
Have a good one!

OH, this sorry software is now working. Tried to post about 30 minutes ago. Locked up.
Buckeye retiring and then company asking him to stay. Must be hard up for employees.
Had a great family Thanksgiving. 25 or so people. Wifey did a great job. Sisters came and helped. DIL did too.
Brag and Granddaughters. Each Granddaughter cooked a pie. Oldest [who is 8] did a pumpkin pie. Looked good. She forgot the sugar. Two twins [who are 6] did pies. Kaylee did chocolate pie. Every time Frankie saw her, she had chocolate pudding around her mouth. Mom was teaching them fractions. Got a smart DIL. They all made a Christmas ornament for each Aunt [two they had never met, step-aunts]. Smart kids.
Have a good one.

Good evening all,
Thanksgiving day was nice. Today was good. Worked on leaves, and then put up outside lights. Got all new ones as none of last year's strings were working. Ones on the ground are LEDs, which I hope last more than a year. Went to see "Justice League" tonight. Wonder Woman was good, but could do without the rest. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Good Saturday Morning!
Drizzly but 50F...perfect for indoor chores.
Wifey brought me home another surprise....finally found an acceptable set of taps for the sink in the 2nd bathroom. Finding fixtures that suited the old sink style from the 1930's was difficult. Got right to it last night and promptly put 2 bathrooms out of commision......well, semi- commision. Would have completed the job if the kit had the 2 flex lines from the shut off valve to the taps.
Was having fun running the new GG1. Great sound sets, smooth operation and excellent details. The Flying Yankee is OK too...but far from what I'm used to from a Premier model.
Great news about my buddy. The cause was cardiac arrest but the prompt attention at revival from paramedics basically pulled him back from what normally would have been fatal. If you're gonna crash, do it in front of a firehouse. Had the incident happened anywhere without quick access to a defibulator he'd have been a goner. Even though the pickup was totalled the only major injury suffered was fat lips from the airbag explosion. He's awake and lucid now, so i'm hoping to go see him this weekend.
Have a safe weekend all. SAFE
Bruce
Morning. 50 degrees up from 32 degrees.
Back under house in a few. Crawled most of yesterday afternoon. Also reaching up. Can sit as plenty of room under there. Easy access. Plastic so dry. Put in heat tape for outside faucets. Seems plumber put them over foundation vents. Vents close but not sealed. Also, putting some insulation in vents. All this incase we have the once in a very long while extreme cold for days. Prevention now. Will cover hot water line with foam insulation as longest run from hot water heater at other end of house. Should have gone hunting.
Morning all!Another 70*, sunny day ahead!Went to a wedding yesterday evening. It was one of my son's best friends. All of us parents of this fairly large group have known each other for 10-20 years or more. It is great fun to see all these young adults, their parents, and have a reason to get together on a new basis other than JH, HS sports, arts (band, dance troupe, etc.), Scouts, etc. activities. And everyone was dressed up. It was a fabulous evening. We have attended several weddings of this group over the past 3 years and we have a couple more coming in 2018. Looking forward to it!
Evenin' boys. Back at Fifedom after a successful crossing of the Potomac. New grandson to spoil in the future. Oldest Princess and baby doing well after "dicey" delivery. Wifey on cloud 9, as she lives for grandbabies. Nice Thanksgiving dinner with in-laws, then another nice dinner with former neighbors.
Chief -
Hello there,
spent a couple of hours yesterday hauling manure.
Then spent the rest of the day finishing leaves. Not as good as I'd like but as good as it's going to get.
Today the widowed neighbor lady asked me to haul hers away. She has them piled up to burn but she's afraid it'll be to big of a fire. I'll suck the pile with the hose. I guesstimate there will be 2 loads.
Today was a busy day. My cousin from Meadville met Mrs and I at the home for a visit with mom. She seems to be adjusting to being there. Physically about the same.
After that cousin joined Mrs and I for lunch at a local eatery. Then Mrs & I spent a couple of hours shopping.
Capped the day off watching the 2 littlest grandkids.
Tomorrow will be a lazy day. Need to load some shells and round up my stuff for hunting on Monday.
Best get the girls to pick up. Their folks should be here soon.
Prayers for those in need

A good day. Went to a train show and scored some O gauge Plasticville. Wife went along and we went to a presentation at a historical society in Indy on nutcrackers and other German Christmas customs. Very nice. Went to a very long Mass by a missionary priest who liked to add his own commentary before the readings. Then he added a second pitch for his organization after Communion. Ugh. Double Ugh. Got to watch Liverpool and Chelsea play to a 1-1 tie on a recorded match from earlier in the day. Weather was nice as well. I hope everyone has a good day.
Hi Dennis, looks like you made out pretty good for Thanksgiving. One of my sons took me out to a restaurant. I enjoyed it but I think he spent two much money for what we got. I would have been just as happy with less ambiance. Anyway we had a good day.

How old is that hunter?
Hi Don, good to hear from you. I have been absent from the forum for a while. I finally starting to run trains again after a long absense from them. I need to clean a lot of track from inactivity. Glad Chris is doing good. I did not go to Cal Stewart. Did you? One of my kids and his wife took me out for Thanksgiving. He put up my Christmas tree today. I was not going to do it this year but he did all the work. Glad he did now. Hope to see you soon somewhere. Enjoy the season.
Ray if you're asking about this he is 12.
Kev.....it is being mounted.
Just woke up from a nap. Best get moving.
Good Morning,
Fife, Congrats on the new Grandson!!! Nickname yet?
Roy, Sounds like your going to be busy for awhile. Hope the retirement is agreeing with you.
Ray, I did not go to Cal Stewart either. I'm familiar with the new location and new it would be a very small show, lots of traffic, and expensive parking. Much less the $15 just to get in. Yesterday was the FIRST day I've run any trains since last Feburary. Been re-doing my layout. New track configuration and all new wiring. I think I'm going to like this design. The previous design was there since 2006, and was bored with it.
Banks, That is a GREAT picture! Your grandson right?
Thanksgiving the weather here was 94, today its 72, and foggy. Go Figure.
Chief, glad to see the room addition is doing so well.
Just found out going to be doing Christmas Tree today, so better get going. (Did get the outside decorations up on Friday.
Banks Hello there, Ray if you're asking about this he is 12. Kev.....it is being mounted. Just woke up from a nap. Best get moving. Prayers for those in need
The only thing disturbing to me about this photo, and it may be because of the angle the shot was taken, but it apears the rifle is laying in a position of right at his head.
Behind his head. I would hope it is unloaded. Or at least, safety is on I'm sure. Would pop his ear drum if it went off.
Evening. Took Wifey Christmas shopping after Sunday School. 20 miles away. We have the largest selection of stores right here. Oh well. She paid for Cracker Barrel.
Have a great week ahead.
rtraincollector Banks I grew up in eastern PA. and all we could hunt with was what we called pumpkin balls ( slugs) The area to populated for rifle. I remembering the same situaltion when hunting at my cousins in southern N.Y. ( just across the state line outside of Binghamton ) I remember that time to well. I saw a deer ( or thought I did ) in some over groath and so I fired what I hit with a pumpkin ball was a brown bear in the ars. Lucky for me I had a 44 mag which I used to bring him down when he stood up on his rear legs and looked right at me.

Evening all,
A lazy day today. Slept in due to lack of sleep due to the holiday. Watched TCM most of the day, read the paper...
Fife - glad for the new arrival
Hello there.
The rifle is unloaded and in a safe position. It is in front of the deer and Kyle is behind it.
SIL is a very zealous hunter and also a stickler for safety.
We were taught the 1st thing after confirming the animal is dead unload the rifle. Number one rule is treat every weapon as if it is loaded.
Gotta finish rounding up my stuff and get to bed.
Banks I figured something like that but by the picture it is hard to tell. Glad you all follow gun safety so well
Another good day. Spent the day organizing financial papers. Finally got the file cabinet so I can use it and I have most of everything in it now. Watched Manchester City beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 on Telemundo. Got the recently acquired Plasticville placed on the layout. Not sure if that is the permanent location, but it gives me ideas. Dennis, good to hear your date went well. Weather was nice and wife put up her outside decorations and we turned the lights for the season. I hope everyone has a good day.
Morning. Chilly 32 degree start. Warming fast. Next few days above average. Visitation for a lady in the community. Then, off to the hunt for a few days.
36 now and will be another great day for this time of year. Heading to 61 to 64 if they are right.
Leaves are about over for the year and the wood shed is full.
No plans!
Aloha. Sunny and warmed today - looks like everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. We have wonderful weather - including lots of wind that helped blow leaves out of our yard :) We hosted our kids, including the marrieds who bought their rabbit and large dog with them. Watched the Bears and Notre Dame both lose and enjoyed watching International Rules rugby more.
Dennis, sounds like a nice date with a nice lady. I agree Chromebooks are 'bullet-proof'
Buckeye, congratulations on the pending retirement - they'll probably keep telling you 'just give us one more month'
Roy, I agree those weddings out of a group of friends are so much fun - especially to see the youngesters 'grown up'
Fife, congrats on the new grand!
Banks, congrats on your grandson's shot. Around here, there are still enough farms to 'enjoy' the smell of a well-fertilized field. Ray, good to see you again. Isn't it good to work on the layout again?
DonB, great news about Chris...
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Bruce, Wow how fortunate for you friend. Thank God for the paramedics!
Chief, Now with the crawl spaced finished off. And you can sit up, you need to take a plastic lawn chair mount some casters on it (compatible with the plastic floor). And you will have a great space for a G Scale layout!
Dennis, Thats great the chomebook is working well for you. I've heard nothing but good about them.
Roy, Sounds like you are adapting to retirement fine. BTW, got one of the power supplies connected up to my layout. So far only have the 12vdc, and 4.5vdc connected. Still have lots more to connect, trying to determine if I will just use one P/S, or install one on each end of the layout.
Kev, Looks like the weather there is warmer than here THIS WEEK. We are cooling off quite a bit, then suppose to have a warming spell coming. I'm surpised its that warm there, but it will probably drop quick.
Doug, Interesting Thanksgiving Day dinner! How did the rabbit and dog get along?
Had a MINOR (I hope) set back in the train room yesterday. Was doing a test with the big engines, and fired up the Big Boy. It was having some issues, the second set of drivers were not moving and their was a clanking noise. Looks like the drive shaft which sets on top of the rear drivers came out of the gear box. I needed to build a new cradle, (gave the old one away), and will see IF I can repair it. I sent an email off to "GGG" about it. He has repaired a number of engines for me and does remarkable work. Only issue is he is located in Virginia, expensive shipping! He sent me some suggestions, so hopefully it will work out.
Got to get busy, hope everyone has a great day.
