Frank stopped by to see the layout, we chatted a few hours, had some great eat-em-ups (thank you), and then he was on his way. Always good to catch up with my Coffee Pot friends.
Like Doug said we have had a change in the weather.Working on seeing how many cars the three motor ALCO A-B Set can pull. It is looking like it will be able to pull more cars than can go through the 34” radius Marx 1/2 curve section on the layout so I may never know. Your smart to get a tree monkey to take that monster tree down Roy.

Aloha. Grey and snow showers. Supposed to get pretty cold during the next week or two. Ah well... February. Watched the big game with my FiL which was fairly entertaining in a sloppy sort of way.
Roy, that sounds like quite a challenge. We had the same circumstance with not quite such a wide tree too close to the house that the bride loved, and fortunately it blew down in a microburst with each gigantic branch falling just between houses, garages, bushes, cars and air conditioners. Nothing damaged! What will you do to the stump?

Strange. You think a big saw blade that cut mighty logs would be tough. One nail or piece of metal, blade damaged bad. Use to be a father/son saw mill near me in southern part of the county. Dad would always run his metal detector up and down each log before sawing. Also, tree guys have to carry a big libility insurance for there work. Tree falls on house or something, they pay.

Quiet day. Did 6 miles in 1:41:43. Did one mile in 15:45, but overcooked it doing that stint and slowed me down the last 2 miles. Buckeye, the train show was in Kokomo, IN. I hope everyone has a good day.

Dennis thats nothing when I was trying to find one for my 2356 Southern set a guy had one for like $400 and it was in pieces and not sure it all was there
I kinda figured that on size and closeness.
RT - it wouldn't matter if I was 30 years younger and had some gear, this is a huge tree and there is no place to "fell" it. It has to come down branch by branch. You either get an organization with a bucket truck or one with professional climbers. The guys I use climb and rope themselves up into the tree. They tie guy ropes to each branch to control where it comes down. It is a skilled and tedious process. Alley and fence, neighbors drive and fence, my storage shed, my house, my pool, my neighbors house - all within 10-25 feet of the trunk. This is a dense neighborhood.
Btw - in the old days when you could find a local saw mill, a sawmill here will not take a neighborhood/yard tree unless you are willing to guarantee their saw blade if it gets ruined due to a buried nail/spike/lag bolt in the trunk. So you have to have big bucks and really want that tree's wood really bad. This is Dallas, any sawmill is a long haul from here so transport costs trump the worth of a single tree.
They are going to cut me a cord of wood, but I do not have the space to store much more than that for a year for it to season. The rest of the tree goes to the dump.
Almost forgot, this tree is as wide as it is tall. If you tried to fell it without taking all the branches off, you would have a huge mess to manage. This is not like a lodge pole pine or poplar.

Good point RT,,,We do have a lot of equipment and we have to have it here. But even with it all another set of eyes and hands is always a good thing. Just part of how it works.
Finally had some me time after I finished my half marathon today, naturally went to the train room. I'm partway through putting a mountain and tunnels on my postwar style layout
Roy and RT. I still fell a lot of trees but if I can’t get help and they are close to the house I get it done. I can see the day where I will have to stop doing this, just to old and the back don’t like it at all. As for who you get to do it you just have to be sure that they are bonded and insured before letting them start the job.We had the two and a half year old grand-son here yesterday and every time he is here I know why you have kids when you’re young. I put him down for a nap and while he was napping he decided to fill #2 in his diaper and then did not like that so he took it off in bed. I don't think I have to explain much more than that. Wifey is still cleaning sheets and bedding. Will watch the game tonight but could care less who wins.
Roy what really stinks they charge you an arm and a leg to drop it. then charge to remove it then they will sell it either to a lumber mill or as firewood ( or both ) and make more money that way by time there done they make like double the original amount to just drop it. But do you have the tools and the back to do the work. I know I don't. I have one that needs to come down I need to find out how much they want to drop it.

Beautiful sunny day today! Made it to 61.
Have to have a very large oak tree removed from my back yard. Original owners planted it too close to the house and it is damaging the foundation. Tree is nearly 3 ft in diameter and I have no idea how tall it is but it is one of the tallest in our neighborhood. One could buy a decent used car for what this will cost. Wednesday is the day. Was able to catch my neighbors outside and let them know. Tree hangs over my roof and theirs (a tile roof - and hangs over their driveway). They will keep theirs cars out of the driveway. Wish my wife had let me take it out 15 years ago when it was only 2 feet in dia.

Morning all on the chilly side here today. was only 37* when I got up and were supose to get up to a big 54 today then winter sets in for the rest of the week nothing over 41 and thats tomorrow the rest in the upper 30's for highs and upper 20's for lows at night.
Trying like you know what to save money and wife is finding more things she /we need to have. lol. Anyway it will work out.
No big news here been going thru stuff to donate to Goodwill just want to get rid of it as just taking up room we don't have. ( making room for my train layout ) It's only going to be 5' x 8' but it's going to be a layout thou I'll be able to run trains again probably do two seperate loops, and at this point they will be conventional which is fine with me. 8' will limit what I can sensibly run but it will be good I have one set of passenger cars with it engines which is like 12' it would be covering 1/2 the loop lol I know just shorten it a little and it will work which I probably will do but just the thought of it. A-B-A, F-3's makes for a long start anyway. I have that in B&O and Southern. B&O is the passenger set. Then if I break out the NYC set thats like 18' I think now that would be unreal.

A good day. Great day at the train show. Lots of vendors and lots of purchases. Scored two 1970 MPC box cars and a 6162-50 postwar Alaska gondola. Picked up the latest MR at Wally world later that evening. Had a nice visit with sister and her family. Wife and I had a good meal at Denny's on the way home. I hope everyone has a good day.

Fife, just keep working on it. Before I retired -0400 was get up and get going, every day. Now with work seven years later I can get to -0800 without a problem, some day even more.
I remember as a child when I would stay overnight with my grand-father and he would sleep till 9:00am I liked it because I had the run of the house before he got up.
Picked up a Lionel 6468 at the Scale show in Timonium today. Nice shape for 63 years old. Needs a bit of spit and polish, but I prefer them that way. Pretty good show this weekend, and well attended. Also purchased a B&O 722 t-shirt from an outfit from NC. Proprietor wasn't even aware that the Potomac Eagle/South Branch Valley has a gift shop, and will contact them to see if there's an opportunity. He had simply printed them up for the EMD weekend at Spencer Shops.
Cloudy and 49. Not much going on today. Helped out with cleaning this morning moving furniture, etc. Then I decided to pull the fridge out to vacuum under it and broke the ice maker line. Luckily aready had a box of 1/4 line compression fittings so had it fixed in about 20 minutes. 45 min to find the parts.

Just checking in since it has been a few days now. I'm still getting physical therapy for my right shoulder and neck pain but no big results yet. I have ordered one of those "My pillows" advertised on TV and in magazines. I'm hoping that will help.
We are expecting warm weather this weekend in the 80's and strong Santa Ana winds. It will be a good test for my new driveway gate made of decorative iron. The old one was wood and was getting banged up by the wind. Ripped the latch clean out of it last time. Wind also blows my car cover off. Have to anchor that down better.
Have appointment with Day Care people next week to get my wife enrolled in their program and give me a break once in a while.
She also needs to see a dentist to have a bad tooth pulled but is resisting to go. However it is not hurting now but we need to get it taken care off. I might have a cavity myself. Been feeling something lately.
Helen is still sore from the fall she had last week but is able to walk without pain. We walked a couple of blocks the other day.
Friend Larry came over for a visit for a while this week. That was welcomed by me. He has some health issues too. We both talked about how our interest in trains is suffering. I tried running a couple of times lately but spent most of the time cleaning track. I spent too much time in the garage and Helen was getting into mischief in the house. She was boiling water and about to put in some corn flakes when I came in. I can't to that anymore unless someone is with her.

Aloha. The sun just popped out here too. This weekend is another one to serve at church. I don't mind this season of helping out so often but I sure hope they find some other video directors soon. Spent the past few days doing taxes. That's always fun... Congrats to the future Yorkies!
