Here are a few pics of layout. I still have some tweaking to do. I'm thinking I may move the stringers on the legs. I might reattach them at a 45 degree on each leg. Either that or bolt the section to the wall. I have the 1 by's coming off the long skinny sections to the wall. I'm going to attach a board to them and bolt that into the wall. Still have the last to sheets to screw down on them and cut the ends off where the bridge will be.

On to a new question. Is there anything I should cover the top with?

Good morning. It's 63° with 100% humidity. Cloudy today with a chance of rain. The high will be 82°.


Looks like we have a chance of getting wet today. This morning I have the GP40's running. Later I'll switch them out and bring on either the four FP7's or the two GP7's, GP35 and slug. I haven't really decided yet. Other than that I'll be doing some cleanup work and watch a few movies. I'm still having some bouts with the dizziness this morning. That should clear later. Hopefully it'll be an uneventful day.

Aloha. Thanks for your birthday wishes! I soon realized I had nothing going on at work yesterday and took the rest of the day off to go sit in the sunshine - I was fortunate to get electronic subs to a few model train mags and a gift cert to a local hobby shop to get a companion or resources for Ivor. I also got to show Ivor's layout off to several friends who stopped by with celebratory libations.  And it sure was a beautiful day. Glad to have shared the celebration with HudsonJohn. 

8n, that looks like a beautiful plot of land. 
RJ, the layout makes good use of your space. I don't think you need to remove / move those braces. 

Remember to celebrate Frank Hornby's 100th birthday by running some tinplate!

Holy Crap you have been busy! Looks awesome.

1. I would remove the 'stringers' and reattach as 45 degree bracing
2. No need to bolt to the wall. What you have will be immovable once it is complete - well unless your house is eaten by a sink hole, or a bull dozer comes through

As for what to cover the top with... any sound deadening material will work. I used 2x4 accoustic ceiling tiles because they are easy to move, easy to cut, and cover a descent amount of space. Others use soundstop (comes in 4x8 sheets). Others use 1/2 inch - 2 inch foam. Just depends on what you are attempting to do. When you attach the track to the layout you screw into the sound deadening material ONLY, if you screw to the plywood you will create a 'drum-like' effect.

OK, it's one thing to knock off the union talk. That's good. But, I've been receiving complaints of late about a certain member here, you know who you are, I shouldn't have to list any names, who has been using the pot as his personal attack platform to make personal attacks on other members. This won't be tolerated. This has been going on long enough that some members are thinking of taking time off just to get away from these attacks. Anyone seeing such attacks can contact me or Blownout Cylinder. Those responsible will be contacted via PM. The problem(s) will be handled by the mods or if severe enough will be handed up to the admins to pass judgement on. I'm getting tired of these back and forth attacks and they will stop NOW.

Bright sun and 76 degrees now.

BCRs MUST be charged first. Turn on the power to at least 12 volts for 1 minute BEFORE trying to run the engine. BCRs will then stay charged while running the engine and for a few hours after. My BCR2 will stay charged for days.Had a nice chat with Brutus,  Charlie and RT last night. I hope to do some garden shoveling today but we had some rain overnight so I will see how things go. I try to garden just what we will eat and a little extra for friends. Canning tomatoes, we buy...S.J.

It's Wednesday so happy hump day we are half way through another week.

Jeffrey, I just read your post, surprised you did not stop them sooner. You have been very tolerant with some of these guys and it appears they have taken advantage of it. Don't let them ruin the great place we have to chat.

I have almost finished my N5c caboose, need to find printable decals and I can finish the outside.  I'm scheming to install 2 white LEDs inside.  The plastic is very thick and no light shines through.  Hopefully can finish before the end of the month.  Picture on Sunday....if everyone shows up!!

Ryan - make your apartment as best as you can.  You'll feel better about it in the long run and with the money you save, you can create your dream pad.  I love my parents, but I'm still saving up for my own place.  Living solo has it's ups and downs, but you can make it work.  Trust me....If God opens the door....I'm steppin in, baby.

Kev - You only need 3 layers of plaster cloth if you are going to place something on it without support underneath. For my buildings I did what Fife does and made platforms for them to sit on. Depending on how I want it to look I will either make the platform the same shape as the item, or a little larger. For example my radio tower has a small parking lot next to it for the DJ and Producer's cars.

          I am not sure McD's is a viable alternative to southern cooking.  It seems dicey either way.

Had the Mustang out this morning.  After seeing the quality of the shop's work, it seems better now than it did on 6-11-11 when I bought it. The only thing better than the quality of their work is how they treated me throughout the process. Great people make all the difference in those situations IMO.

Back from PT and lunch.....company for lunch makes all the difference!!!

PT was good, therapist says I'm making great progress, gave me some tips on how to adjust a little better, but things are looking good.

Brent or Jeff.....need some help.  My Firefox  went full screen with my fat fingers and cannot for the life of me figure out to get it back to "normal".  I know its a simple thing....it just eludes me....

Major MVA while I was at therapy, US Route 130 closed at NJ 33, truck vs car with fatality....looked like a Taurus, the TV Choppers are all over the place .... (NBC 10 Philly...for sure).  Traffic backed up big time, I took the back roads home

OH yeah, forgot..I'm all for Banks and Fife providing those CTT weekend getaways......

Thanks Brent, I thought you said 3 layers. The liner is done and is nice and firm. I am not sure what or how I will do the rest yet.

Slow day at the dealer so made for a long one even though I got out early.

Take your pointer to the edge of the of the screen. There it'll become a double pointed arrow (one end points left, the other points right). Left click and pull in toward the middle. Do this to any edge of the screen you need to.

If that does nothing go to the top right corner. Next to the X is a symbol that looks like two boxes or screens, one on top of the other. Click that. It should turn into one box or screen. Try again to adjust the screen size as outlined above.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Sorry to have been away a couple of days.  Been busy.  Can't post at work and Monday evening was spent trimming trees, Tuesday was mowing grass, and Wednesday was spent scrimmaging with "my" soccer kids.  For the new ones here, "my" soccer kids refer to the local high school teams.  My daughters were on the team the first year both programs started and I have been following both teams since.  Over the years, I have helped any and all coaches with scrimmaging the kids and have given the kids various tokens of encouragement when I can.   They, in turn, have been there for me as well such as the time when the whole girls team came to the funeral home for my mom's visitation and the boys team dedicated a win to the memory of my dad.  I have received far more from them than I have ever given and have been blessed to have shared time on and off the field with them.  Watched Arrow as well.  Very good conclusion to the season.  I hope everyone has a good day.

No layout work today. I was so busy sending and answering PM's, monitoring posts and sorting through old posts there was little time for much else. I did however have a little time to print up some 'KEEP OFF!' paper labels. I still have to cut them out. I just let the GP40's and the FP7's run while I worked today. Today seemed really long to me.  Long meetings and lots of people really upset at work.  One thing, we'll be getting plenty of overtime - that's completely unrelated to the problems I was talking about before, lol!  I did get to go out to lunch to that deli we tried last week and it was great.  You know the food will be good when the cook is all tatted up and has piercings  Spent an hour trying to get our microcell to work with my wife's phone - AT&T tech support was very helpful, but no luck yet.  We think it's a software thing on her phone.  She's finally over that darn bronchitis, so that's cool.  Nice chat with Charlie and SJ tonight.  Tardis is ready - TTFN!
