Good Mornin' Y'all From Sunny And Seasonal Taxachusetts,

It was a busy weekend......racked up 415 road miles since Friday morning with day trips visiting some friends and attending some dog training, with no overnights.  Maximus was with us for the whole ordeal thing.  I need to buy some stock in an oil company.  I figure we burned 20 gallons of fuel.  21 mpg is what I got and what one can expect with an SRX which is a large crossover vehicle that tips the scales at 4,450 pounds and is driven by a 4.6L V8 that pumps out 320 horsepower and 315 lb./ft. of torque.  The odometer turned 87,000 miles yesterday.

It sounds to be that Jeffrey should pack up a couple of boxes of parts he has laying around and go help Bob fix that whatchamacallit.  Then they can weather the thing. Thumbs UpLaugh

It is starting to look like the races in the Americal league are going to be a slugfest this year.  At least the Boston Red Sox are in first place. Thumbs UpSmile, Wink & Grin

Gotta run.  My thoughts will be with the Yorkies this week.  Have a blast, guys.

Good morning from The North Bluff. Sun is not up yet so why am I? Huh?

Worked in the yard all day yesterday trimming back the underbrush so it will not bite me as I drive past on the mower.

DougM, Happy Birthday to you son. Here is something for you to look at in your spare time. http://www.ejearchive.com/page_photogallery.html

Bob, WOW! Nice work. I have had some Garage Queens over the years. Laugh I think the Dockside could be called an engine shed Queen. Smile, Wink & Grin Laugh

Nice space RJ!

Mike Funny, I think the best NACAR races are when they turn both ways. I wish they had more of them.

Have a good day.

Aloha. Grey and 55! Maybe spring has sprung. I survived the birthday weekend - of my bride Sat and oldest son Sun. I think both were happy with the festivities. She appreciated your good wishes! My daughter surprised her by driving in from college. Next up is our anniversary in a week. Whew! Between rain showers, I got to put down some grass seed. (I saved Jack's lawn advice from last year) We'll see if anything happens.

Banks, my condolences on your loss of Buddy.
Safe travels to all the Yorkies!
Rich, prayers for a great, effective treatment plan.
Chuck, I enjoyed catching snippets of the Indians-Sox this weekend. The Tribe looked good!
Kev, thanks for the EJ&E archives. I always eyeball their RoW (now busier than ever with the CN) on my drives around the area.

Good morning. It's 66° with 97% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a high of 85°.

More layout cleanup today. I also plan to get gray and black paint on the other two FP7's (PRR and UP) before the day is out.

Good Morning!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES TO DOUG M's WIFE KELLY AND THEIR OLDEST SON!!! Happy B-Day

Busy day yesterday and I did not have a chance to post. I found the stalling problem with my son's truck. The lock assy. of the ignition switch. More outside work today.

KevinK22: Check out Laz's post on our breakfast at York.

Laz: The weather forecast does not look bad. We can live with scattered showers on Friday.

AF53, Ray, I used a magnifying glass to read the small print. Laugh

Chief: Congrats on your Daughter's Wedding. They had to be Yankee Turkeys that outsmarted you.

JoeD: Prayers for your 9 year old friend.

On a sad note, please remember in your prayers a friend of mine's 21 year old son who died suddenly over the weekend.

Enjoy the Day!

Temp is 48, going to 60s today.

A chat with Brutus and Charlie last night suggested that I should take at least 1 pair of clean boxers so I tossed them in the suitcase. One less decision to make. I think everything is under control here and if not after tomorrow morning it won't matter. None of you Pa. guys left us anything about Horseshoe curve so we will find that out tomorrow also.

Joe, Dan's layout has been slow to progress as he is still working on finishing the basement as well, however he has gotten the switchback in since we were there last and an engine storage area that runs off into another room.....S.J.

Charlie, granny says she's going to starch my PJs so I guess I won't have to wear them after all..:)

Demay

Konbanwa,

........The workday was uneventful and I left early so my older son and I could go visit a 9 y/o boy from our church that is in the hospital.  He has a high fever and the doctors are not sure why.  He is in a Japanese hospital and I must say socialized medicine is not something to look forward to.  His parents have been rotating shifts staying with him and they are getting worn out; he’s been there since Friday night.  Hopefully they’ll figure something out soon.....   Sayonara,  Joe

Good for you, JoeyD.  I am sure that the little boy's parents were uplifted that someone would take the time to go visit their precious little one in their hour of need.  And the visit speaks volumes about what kind of a parent you are and what you are teaching your boy.  I am proud to know you.

Last week on the POT there was a lot of discussion of how the guys on this forum support each other through times of trial, setback, and at times devastation without having even met one another in person.  Now one might observe that we are all just being polite.  I don't think it is quite that simple.  JoeyD's post got me to thinking about my 9 year old granddaughter Victoria and 3 year old granddaughter Gabriella.....about how very fragile life is, how we at times take things in life for granted.  Like childbirth.

Nine years ago my wife and I were blessed with our first grandchild, Victoria.  About 6 years ago at this time my daughter went into labor unexpectedly at 25 weeks and was rushed from our local hospital to a downtown Boston hospital by ambulance.  Despite the best efforts of the Doctors associated with the Tufts New England Medical Center to delay delivery, our grandson Mateus John was born.  We lost him six days later.  I have written in the past about my own grief.  I also wrote about how very proud I was of my daughter and my son-in-law for overcoming that devastating loss to carry on and to try again.  Three years later we were blessed with a second granddaughter, Gabriella.

Fast forward to last week.  Our little Victoria came up with the idea to sponsor a fundraising team to walk during an upcoming March of Dimes event in memory of her little brother.  The walk will occur in downtown Boston in May.  In just one week little Victoria already has raised over $300 for the cause and the amount is growing.  Yes, we helped out with some of the administrative logistics and with some ideas, but this was her idea.

We are so proud of her.  Instead of feeling helpless (as kids do, and as we all sometimes do) about the world around her and her loss, she has taken the initiative "to act."  Today she (and my son-in-law) are meeting with the teacher and the principal of her school to see if and how Victoria's effort could be brought to the school and expanded.

So JoeyD, my kudos to you and to your son for visiting that little guy in the hospital.  You are teaching your little ones to be leaders, quietly and most effectively through your actions and deeds.  You and your boy made a difference yesterday.  Positive change is made one person at a time, one kind and thoughtful act at a time, one prayer at a time.

Four decades ago my Dad (a WWII veteran and Navy surgeon) embroidered and framed an old pearl of wisdom whose origins (not AA) date back at least 3 centuries.  That embroidery now hangs prominently in my family room:  "Oh Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Carpe diem and Thumbs Up, my friends.

Jack

CakeHappy B-Day to Mrs. Murphy and Jr. Murphy

Didn't accomplish much this weekend my sister and BIL took me out for lunch and dinner Saturday and it was nice to get out of the house.  Sunday read the paper and watched TV for the most part...napped in between.  did have enough energy to clean the house a bit and my bathroom.  looks better.  Had the windows open upstairs to air the place out.  Much nicer now that spring is here.

Really upset I missed the Hi-Railers and LCCA on Saturday....I was counting on being there.

Jack - I look at it this way.....Spend everyday like its your last.  Grab life by the throat and make your own way.  Thumbs Up.

Have a friend visiting later.  Haven't anything else on my Ex GF's Dad and no news is good news in this case.

Hope your Yorksters have a blast...

I saw twice on channel 5.3 a movie about Jackie Robinson breaking into the big leagues. Its a good movie, obviously being shown now because of the new movie 42. I diden't think I was going to post about it and don't remember the title. I heard on the radio the movie was made in 1950 and Jackie Robinson played himself. He was a christian.
Channel 5.3 I'm near sure is a local channel that shows old movies only. It takes a lot of money to make a movie and there is a lot of movies that make me wonder why in the world would they spend money making this stupid story, who thought that was a good idea?

WOW!!!!  I for one am glad to hear that "faith and worship" is thriving at your church, DENNIS!!!  At mydaughter and son-in-law's church the pastor is doing his best to drive people away.  He ignores the benefactors and regulars if he finds fault with them and their ways.  Last month he refused to let some long time parishioners hold funeral services there for their drug addicted son who died from an overdose.  I think he needs a refresher coutse in the Biblr.

Good afternoon all,

It is cloudy and mild in SE Indiana.  Based on the recent postings here,  it is more than obvious that life can be full of unexpected events.  Sometimes we cry about it and sometimes we rejoice over it, but usually we have some type of reaction to it.  Every once in a while you have to pull the plug on yourself and remove yourself emotionally from what is going on.  Thru it all, we still have each other, and that, along with our faith in the deity of our choice, is what keeps us going.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

What route are you taking into PA? If you are going by Pittsburgh I would highly recommend taking PA22 from Monroeville to Altoona - it is very scenic and now that they have finished it, it is 4 lanes. It will take you over Cresent Mountain (Allegheny Portage Railroad, Horse Shoe Curve, Gallitzin Tunnel).

http://www.nps.gov/alpo/index.htm

http://www.railroadcity.com/altoona_horseshoe_curve/

http://www.railroadcity.com/ - Railroaders Memorial Museum

http://www.gallitzin.info/

If you are into railroading - Altoona, PA is a MUST stop.

Also - if you have time - Conway Yard in Conway, PA (West of Pittsburgh on PA65 between Ambridge, PA and Beaver, PA) is really neat as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway_Yard

There is also a very long RR Bridge that crosses the Ohio River across Brunot Island. It is between McKees Rocks, PA and Pittsburgh as you head East on PA65. You can get some good pictures at 2856 New Beaver Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA (Google Maps).

And other RR bridge beside The David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh (1 block from the John Heinz History Center and 2 blocks from the old PRR passenger station).

Rock, I am not big on going to Church, And I would never bash any one for there chosen religion, I do However, know the difference between right and wrong (doesn't mean I always choose the right path)

Seems that it shouldn't mater how long any ones been attending or not attending, nor what the circumstances were for a death, a funeral is a funeral. PERIOD!

And I also know, as my Grand Father was the man above the the preacher (can't think of the term) and when a pastor or preacher or bishop or who ever, does a funeral, thay dont do it out of the kindness of there heart.  they are paid very well for it, over and above there salary.    the preacher at the church my dad works for makes SIX figures plus extras for baptisms, funerals, weddings, etc

Any way, guess we should get off the church subject before were shut down

Have a GREAT evening eveyone!!!!

Well I got the remaining UP FP7 painted black and gray. I was starting on the PRR FP7 but the gray paint (rattlecan primer) went on looking like powder, in other words, crap. Guess I didn't shake it up enough. So it's in the alcohol bath. I hope I can get it done today.

Three blasts go off in Boston.  Two at the finishline of the Boston marathon and one at the JFK library.  Three dead.  Forty six injured.  Cellular service turned off.  My son's company about 4 miles north of the blast sent everyone home.

PRAYERS for those people injured.

My wife PAM ran the 100 anniversary of Boston back in '96.  I was right there where those bombs went off at the finish line, I remember lots o people waiting for their runners to finish.

Hello all ,

It takes a really sick person to do that.

Prayers for all  effected

Sir James,   Do as much of what 88 suggested as you can. Look for Cresson Mountain not Crescent. If you travel Rt 22 going down the mountain from the Summit exit to Altoona watch to the left. The NS mainline from the Curve to the Gallitzen tunnels runs along the side of the mountain across the valley. If you travel routes 22 & 322 (a pretty good road that's mostly 4 lanes and it's a toss up between it and the turnpike) east from Hollidaysburg towards Harrisburg you'll drive parallel to the mainline for several miles east of Huntingdon. Also just before Harrisburg you'll pass the big long stone arch bridge that the name of escapes me.  Safe travels

Prayers for those in need

Banks

Hello all ,

It takes a really sick person to do that. Seems there are plenty of them out there. Dots - Sign

Prayers for all  effected. Yes I agree.  Angel SO sad     again. Sad

Jack our minister felt the same way about the E&Cs. I just may be one of them. Seems to me too many churches get too much into their idea of politics and your wallet to support some of them. Just a click, like in high school. A bunch of  feather fluffers.  Who want everyone to SEE them in Church and then go home and be the A$$holes they really are.

Prayers for all of those in Boston and everywhere else that need the support of our Lord God!

Jack, here is another one for you. The wife came home today with 5 pages of information on a Bassenji dog. ( Congo Terrier ) Huh? I am thinking she wants one after she saw the movie My Lady. They are cool dogs from what I have seen. Don't bark, don't shed, don't stink like dog, and act like a Cat. Wink They also yoldel. Smile, Wink & Grin

And for all of you Yorkers,,,,,,,,,,,,, Have a great time. I am jealous,,,, again. Tongue Tied
