Not much train news from yesterday, just messed with those crossing gates but still no luck. It seems you have to break contact from the black wire to the yellow and white momentarily for then to work . So having the black wire fixed to the one rail does not do it. Bang Head

Kevin,

When the Car passes through the isolated section the signal should open, it should stay closed while a car is in the isolated section.  If not, check to see if there is continuity between the rails without a car sitting in the isolated section.  If there is, then there is still come place where the isolated rail "isn't isolated" and needs to be corrected.

Greetings Again From My Neck Of The Woods,

Wifey took the daughter and the grandchildren out to dinner at Friendly's Friday night after some "wedding party" dress fittings for an upcoming wedding.....you know the drill, the women's dresses that you pay a lot for, wouldn't be caught dead in after you wear them once, and then put them in the closet for a couple of decades before you throw them away.  The requisite post dinner ice cream was involved which is all that mattered to a nine year old and the three year old.  So fortunately  I was left home alone to my own devices.....in full control of the remote control.

Saturday night we were supposed to get together with a whole bunch of friends for dinner, including one couple driving up from Pittsburgh......but the Pittsburg wife got sick and they had to cancel their entire Fall trip to these here Northeast parts.  Undeterred, at 6:45PM we met up with the rest of the gang in Newburyport MA., ate at Not Your Average Joe's near the harbor, food was really good.  It was supposed to be an "early evening" but everyone got to yakking, didn't get home until midnight.  My wife and I were walking to our car and were greeted by Mr. Skunk.  But fortunately for us he had better things to do, wandered off, and we did not get perfumed.  Thumbs UpSurpriseLaugh

Think about it......just three games into the NFL season and only 3 of 32 teams are still undefeated.Surprise

DougM and KEV......I ordered 6 Lou Malnati's pizzas last week over the net, were delivered via FedX last Thursday, packed in dry ice.  I hid them in the garage freezer.  Last night I told the wifey I was preparing "fine cuisine" for her for dinner, something she had not had at home for nearly a year.  She thought dinner was going to be fresh lobster.Laugh  You can't beat Chicago style deep dish pizza!!!!

DougM......thanks for the video and the photo of the Zephyr.  WOW!!!!  We never see anything like that in these here parts.

LAZ......... I will send you my address and you can ship me some fresh fish when you get back.   I hope those two girls you met walking the entire Appalachian Trail were armed. Smile, Wink & Grin  On an unrelated note, I think three of us on the POT have wives named Pam. Surprise  What's with that?

Chief........old layout destruction.  Sounds kind of sad, even with the BOX and the promise of the new layout.Sad

Brent.........yes, I have taken the grandchildren shopping by myself.  Forgot my leashes, though, and consequently did not get a lot accomplished.  How you pulled off your shopping adventure with Christina and got anything done is beyond me, unless she was strapped into a stroller.

JON and Rich (and Bob).........was thinking about you three Saturday night when we were out for dinner with friends.  One of the guys bought his wife a pre-owned Harley (XLH ?) Sportster, the one with the 1200CC engine.  Just 1,800 miles on the odometer, $4,800.  Neither have ever owned or ridden a motorcycle before.  I think he bought it for himeself.  But it any event, isn't that way too much bike (power and weight) for a beginner, especially a woman?  Anywho, the guy's wife is already in the midst of riding lessons, don't think she will get in much riding this Fall before the temps are too cold.......think she is lrarning on a loaner Honda 50 or some similar small bike.

Chuck.........good luck with the laptop.  I don't monkey with my PC when it starts acting up because in all likelihood I would only make matters far worse.

AF Ray (and JoeyD).........I have to agree.  With just 10 games left the baseball season, all of the way around things are up for grabs.  Better than runaway races.  Both the Yankers and the Os are neck and neck, both teams on fire, one game separates them with 10 to go.   SJ'sTigers are right there battling DougM's White Sox, exactly the same gap.  And my Red Sox?  Giving Major League Baseball a bad name. Bang Head

KEV........nice pics of your GTO!  I have to agree with the others, one of my top 5 all-time muscle cars, as long as it is the 66 or 67 Goat like you had.  A picture of sheer beauty.  Was thinking of you and your GTO the other night while watching a rerun of "Overhaulin" on the Velocity channel.  Chip Foose and his gang did up one for a woman who inherited hers from her father.....from a mess to perfection.  You must have good taste.  Even the exterior color Foose selected was very similar to yours.

Don.......got another gander (not Goose) of the size your buddy Bob's layout benchwork.  After you revealed the price of just the track and switches estimate, I think his wife is going to blow a gasket or just shoot him.  Wear kevlar when you go over there. Smile, Wink & Grin

Re the Windseeker ride problems, that was all over the news out here last week.  Must have management at Knott's all tied up in knots. Wink

Jeff.........your layout photo of the figure in the red shirt, looks like he is draining the monster. Laugh

SubmmBob......hope you get those automobile projects squared away in short order.  You are up against the clock on both.

Later, gang.

Jack

Like DougM said, Sunny and cool.

BTW Doug Great picture. where was that?

Thanks guys for the comments on my old Goat. Those were great cars and good times, but now days I think I would like to be like Don and be driving a Goose not a Goat. Smile, Wink & Grin

Good luck with the fishing trip Laz. sounds like a fun time.

Jeffery, You should be glad your not a dog, Wink  Seriously take care of yourself today and I hope your feeling better. I think we have all had days where we struggle but you seem to have way tooooo many.

To all,

Thanks again for all the support.  This situation will be a long and difficult pull.  I would have to say it will not be until next year for sure that I will have anything to say of a definitive nature.  The entire situation is bizarre at best, and most of the possible outcomes will be less than desirable.  Again I appreciate all the support.  High schools boys have Senior Night tonight.  I have games this week on Tuesday and Thursday.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Prayers for all who need them.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' Fellas

Not much going on around these parts as of late. TheQ is studying for a certification exam so that leaves me to monitor TheP, which is a 3 person job right now! We on Saturday TheP decided to take an hour long nap so that gave me some free time to get back in the trainroom. Finished 'mapping out' a few areas and when TheP woke up we went shopping! Came home with 1 4x8 sheet of ply in quarters and another package of 3 2x4 ceiling tiles. Sunday culminated in getting two 2x4 sheets of ply cut to fit and installed with the ceiling tiles installed as well. Need to cut a few more risers to use a backing and support for the cut stone wall sections and get them put in place. Then it will be on to securing the cut stone walls and tunnel portals, then building the frames for a double portal and a single portal, get the frames in place and the portals secured, once that is done I'll be able to star working on the rock foil cliff face and then getting another area ready for mockup. Should have most of all of this done between tonight and this weekend (TheQ has more studying to do). Also took some measurements for rebuilding the curved arch bridge and think I may be able to get that started soon as well. Really want to have most of this work and scenery done by November because I need to start building the base for the layout under the tree...

Banks - re Wes: he hasn't posted in quite some time because his wife was diagnosed with *** cancer a few months ago. She went through the treatments and they thought she was going to beat it, unfortunately she lost her battle a couple weeks ago. Truly a sad, sad, story as she was a wonderful woman who touched many lives and Wes and his bride had two young boys. Words simply are not enough...

Spanky - You and your family have our prayers! We'll be praying for Tyler.

Hi GUYZ,

Well its big boyz Christmas Eve for me and BRO.  Going up to Pulaski Ny. tomorrow for three dayz of SALMON FISHING.  We will leave tonite and stay at MOMs overnite then leave Tuesday morning.  They say this is a record season already with the number of fish moving up river.  Low water conditions should have a bunch o fish to catch and release.  PAM wants me to bring home one so on Thursday I have to catch one.  Hopefully we will have good weather?

Yesterday went on a 8.5 mile hike on the APPALECHAIN TRAIL.  It runs through Pa. about 10 miles from my house.  Lots o people out on the trail.  Talked with two gals that were Thru hiking the whole trail.  These gals started out in Maine on June 28th and plan to be in Georgia by December.  Wow lots o steps to go.  They seemed young and energenic but that is a far walk.  WIFE and I and MINNIE then went for Pumpkin Ice Cream.  That tasted just like pumpkin pie.  Very good and with the spices added.

JEFFERY, hope all is well with you, prayers for your ailments.

MIKE C, continued prayers.

Stay frosty, hope to have some pics for YUZ on Friday,

Good Mornin' Y'all From Sunny Mid 40s Taxachusetts,

It was a busy weekend, way behind on the POT.  The New England Patriots game against the Baltimore Ravens last night was a disaster, blew a 9 point lead with 7 minutes to go.  2012 is the first time in the past 9 seasons the Patriots are under .500  Sounds like 9 is an unlucky number.  Bang Head

Spanky........continued prayers for your little Tyler and for guidance this week as a treatment strategy is worked out.

Banks.........prayers continue for your Dad's recovery.  Those leaks sound serious.

Jeffrey, none of that sounds good.  Hope you are feeling better as the day goes on.  It sounds like only your hair wasn't affected.

MikeC.....prayers for you continue.

The wife and I got caught up in some of the Southbound NASCAR/New Hampshire Motor Speedway traffic last night on our way back from dog training.  All things considered, everyone held their lane (drafting?) so we only hit one period of stop and go.

Later, gang.

Good morning. Well maybe for you it is. It's 69° and the humidity is 99%. We have patchy fog. The high will be 92° but will probably feel like 99°. It'll be partly cloudy.

I'm not a happy camper this morning. I was awakened at 3 am by intense back pain, tightness in my chest and a burning sensation from my neck down to my knees. I;m somewhat lightheaded and dizzy. It sounds alarming but 90% of it is med side effects. The other 10%, the burning feeling, is due to a pinched nerve in my neck. Some Aleve has dulled that but the nerve problem will require I spend some time in the traction rig. That's hung on the closet door and awaiting my presence. I know where I'll be for the next hour or two. Depending on how I feel later I may get some layout work in. I also have plans to start on scratch building a grain elevator similar to the Walthers ADM elevator. I'll have to get measurements for the approximate size of the buildings.

Neat train table, Don!

Mike - prayers for your needs man.  I've got the Tardis, no problem, you just relax and enjoy the ride Thumbs Up

Got my new CTT yesterday, but we were cleaning up for company and it's put away still.  I did get the lawn mowed.  Had friends over last night for a big chili dinner and just hung out until like 11:30.  Today, the kids had some chores and then we met my in-laws for dinner and visited until about 9.  Nice chat with SJ.  I'll try and catch up on the posts tomorrow night - ciao!

CONTINUATION FROM EARLIER POST

I choose not to respond to some remarks made by overfed politicians. Cool

SubmilBob,  You had asked what engine is in the Goose, it has a 4 Cylinder Diesel now.  I believe this is the 4th engine since the original.  The diesel is allegedly a tractor engine, I know it has very low end high torque.

I was real disappointed on Friday, was trying to see the Shuttle and 747 doing a flyby.  But, missed it.  I was making a run, and as it turned out it flew across the horizon behind me.  Super AngryCrying

Tomorrow, I will probably work with Bob on his layout.  I'm not real sure what we will accomplish.  I think he wants to build a module for an engine yard.  Currently there is furniture in the location, but he wants to "claim" the area while he has the approval.  The plan is to use Hemosote as a sound dampener then cover it with indoor/outdoor carpeting.  Plan is to use Ross Switches and track.  The Hemosote and track have not been secured yet, waiting for the end of month.  The guestimate is about $4k in track and switches, and my experience is that availability can involve a significant wait.  So no telling how it will unfold.  Thought I would post a couple of pictures of work to date.

KEV, Hope the information made sense and made it a little easier to get the Signal Crossing working correctly.  Next time I will ask about the track type being used.

Think that will wrap it up for the day, so be safe and stay healthy!

Don

To all,

In a perfect world, would have spent the weekend watching the high school kids play then mow the yard and the rest of the weekend relaxing with the 25th anniversary CTT.  The reality is I did watch the games and I hurriedly mowed the yard Sunday afternoon, but spent Friday night, the rest of the day on Saturday and Sunday dealing with issues related to that which I can not talk about.  For now the physical work that HAD to be done is complete, but there is a tremendous amount that still needs to be done, and thru it all no positive results can be counted on.  I know this is very cryptic, but for now this is where it is.  I will catch up hopefully on the status of everybody else tomorrow.  FYI, the boys won 4-1 and the girls lost 9-0.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Howdy.  Back from the lake house.  Had great brunswick stew.  [SP will know what that is]  Big storm came through with great down pours.  Don't think it rained here in Roseyville [50 miles south].

RT, you should have a great train day tomorrow.  Make sure someone is there to sign due to value.

Had a great chat with Shake and Bake last night.  He's off for a few days.  We all know he is off in the head. Whistling

Well, back to the house [posting from the Box].

Good Evening All!

Really sorry to hear about all the bad news that has been prevalent on the Forum recently!  We all have our good and bad days, but it is extremely difficult when loved ones are lost.  Prayers for all the surviving families and friends, hope the grief is as short lived as possible.

On a much brighter note I too, really like the "Goat", of all the muscle cars, that has always been my favorite.  Even though I have had 2 El Camino's, since 1986.  I didn't realize until a couple of years ago that it is also considered a muscle car, sure surprised me!

I am currently enjoying 5 days off from Knott's, we are now on the "winter schedule" and of course hours have been cut.  One person was laid off, and not expected to return until late November.  I am currently on the bubble but don't expect anything, but you can never tell.  Currently scheduled to work 24 hours a week, which is fine.  Fortunately, on the RR we are scheduled 8 hour shifts, most of the other departments work 4 maybe 5 hour shifts.  During the last 4 days, I've been running the "Goose".  It has been a blast!  Most of the guests have no idea what the historical significance is, and are quite impressed when I tell them.  One factor I wasn't aware of our is our's (#3) has had all the seats replaced with the original seats from the Los Angeles Red Cars.  (Trolleys that ran from LA to Long Beach, and Santa Monica to Pomona.)  The seat frames even have LARC molded into them.

The yellow pole in the background is the infamous Windseeker Ride that left people dangling at over 300 feet for 4 hours.  Unfortunately it has happened twice in two weeks, currently the ride is down.  The manufacturer has declared all of them nonoperational, until they find the cause.   .It has to do with the safety system and lock-outs.  EVERY seat has sensors that if they are not closed properly will stop the ride.  There is also some sequence requirements involved.  But the really bad thing is, that when it locks up, it has to be hand cranked down.  I guess it takes about "A Billion Cranks" to bring it down.

Got to go will try to post more later.

Good morning all,

Had a little trouble getting back on the forum this AM after it was down but OK now.

Went to funeral yesterday for Chris Vega.  Church was full.  Big turnout.  All hands were on deck.  Even had a bishop to say the mass.  Very sad though to lose someone so young.  Prayers to the parents and grandparents.  Service lasted one and one/half hours including personal tributes after mass.  We did not follow the congregation to the cemetery because of the hot day.  Did not think my wife could take the heat.  There was also a reception after so what an ordeal for the relatives to go through.

Went to Olive Garden for a late lunch and had the endless pasta plus soup and salad.  Just got the spaghetti and meat sauce for pasta.  Next time I will add the meat balls.  Not enough meat in the sauce.  Soup and salad were very good with bread sticks

Missed my regular TCA meet yesterday because of the funeral but no big deal.  #2 son is out of town this weekend up in the bay area.  Went to a car race.  He rode Amtrak's Coast Starlight yesterday from L.A. to San Jose.  Said he enjoyed riding in the lounge car until two soldiers on board got too rowdy after having too many drinks.  Son said he found other company after that.  I would like to take a train ride with my son one of these days from Sacramento over Donner Pass to Reno and fly home from there.  Would like to see where the first transcontinental railroad crossed the Sierras in the 1800's.  I have ridden all of the other railroad lines around here.

later,

Ray

Aloha. Paradise, What a pretty day - a great Bears-football-watching day. I'll be driving the middle boy back to college from a weekend visit so maybe I can listen in the car.  Had a very nice meal last night courtesy of a gift card where I polished off one of the biggest steaks of my life. I'll pay for it today I'm sure. Smile

Jack, our 13 year old mini-van is flex-fuel, the local ethanol is at least 50 cents cheaper per gallon and I don't see any mileage drop-off like you might expect. The year-old car is of course not ethanol-friendly.

Kev, the shelf looks great!

Banks, I've seen hay here go from $3-4 a bale to $12-14 because of the drought. Local horse rescue folks are worried.

Good Sunday Morning All!

Nice and cool this morning and will do some yard work. Had a great time Thur night in da Bronx and we bought ' daughter with us. All had a great night.

Kev - WOW! That goat looks great! Why didn't you call me in 2001 before you sold it?

DJ - Keep positive thoughts as you go through this. Looks like you're going to the right place for treatment.

HudsonJohn - See you this week as I think we need to do some inventory checking. Wink

FifeDog - I don't know if you're an Orioles fan but Buck has worked some nice magic with them. I've always thought he was a real good manager.

JoeD - As we approach the home stretch, we're doing something we haven't done in a while. Looking over our shoulder and doing some scoreboard watching. I prefer this rather than running away with it just as long as the outcome is the same.

RIJack - You mentioned the wild card the other day. With the new rules in place it's not as attractive as it once was. I'm kind of glad the new rule is in place, it makes it more interesting.

Have a great Sunday all!

Kev --

That '67 GTO was awesome, I always wanted a GTO or a 442 but never had the coins.  In 1968 I bought my first new car and it was a Roadrunner!  Got hit by a drunk in '69 and it was totaled :(  That was my last fast car, marriage/kids/home took precedence.  However, I do have a very fast motorcycle right now :)  The sun is probably setting soon on that part of my life, I wonder if they make turbo charged wheel chairs????  With flames!!!!!

So many roads, so little time.

Kev - I think I know that Plymouth!

My friend had to turn down my offer of the motorcycle. Can't keep it at his apartment. Oh well, will have to find it another home. That thing would be fun in town.

This weekend will be Corvair work. Left carb float adjustment, oil pan gasket, and front  bearings. Getting it ready for a little jaunt next weekend. Those old cars always need something. Tongue Tied

Yes I think you do too Bob, Thanks again Yes

RIJack, That shelf was made for decorative plates so I mounted it upside down for the train. Looks okay to me. Wink Thanks.

Bob,  I spent yesterday AM going through old floppy discs and moving the data and pictures to travel drives. I found some pictures of some of the cars I have restored over the years. Thought you may like a look.

I spent the PM winching Oak log sections up out of the ravine with the Gator winch. Wink Still have more to do but getting to big for the Gators 2,000lb winch. Need a plan B.

DonB, Thanks for all of the help. I got it now. Bow

Prayers for all in need. Angel

Have a great day. Smile

My 1967 Goat first year for the 400CID. Restored it twice, had it for 22 years best car I ever had, super fast too. Sold it in 2001 because I saw some rust by the back window and did not want to go there again. This picture is after the second restore in 1990.

My 1972 El Camino, work driver and the boys Mustang. The mustang was blown up when he traded his 1973 El Camino for it. Hmm It was a fast 5o when we got done with it.

My 68 Fairlane. It was a 289 car but I made it a 428 car. Finished it in 1997 sold it 2 years ago. The Goat could spank it on any day. Surprise

It's 49 and sunny

Good morning all..Didn't get to yesterday's first fall train show. I'm not really looking for anything and it wasn't that close so I let it slide.

Good morning. It's 68° with 93% humidity and patchy fog. It'll be partly cloudy today and the high will be 92°.

No plans for today except to stay in and stay off my feet as much as possible. Got a lot of movie watching to do. Started watching 'Titan a.e.' last night. I'll finish that up today then start in on something else. No layout work planned but something could crop up.
