Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is raining hard. 70 degrees. It has rained all night. No thunder yet. Looks like we will get a lot of rain today. Up to 84 degrees.

Today is an easy day. I have the usual chores and then I will relax and read my latest copy of "Trains" mag. Lunch and a nap, for sure. There is a Nascar race tonite from Atlanta.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great and dry Sunday.

Chuck

Konnichiwa,

The wife made cappuccino muffins for breakfast this morning.  It’s raining again today which is actually a good thing.  We had Sunday school and church this morning.  However, I woke up around 1:00 AM this morning to watch the PSU game.  I knew it would be a tough game as Ohio is a solid team even though they play in the MAC.  PSU’s offense started off great; looked a lot like the Patriot’s offense which makes sense based upon the new coach.  Unfortunately, their offense stalled and Ohio’s came alive.  If PSU finishes 6-6 this year it will be a good season.  Today is the wife’s birthday but she hasn’t decided what she wants for dinner yet.  We made the cake yesterday and have enjoyed some of it already.  I’m sure we’ll spend most of the day inside relaxing today.

Kev – Right now I get paid twice a month, but I am considering going to the once a month option.  Doing so would force us to fully adhere to our budget.  We don’t stray far from it now, but we could always do better.

SP Ray – You could always bake the ribs in the oven for a couple of hours first and then finish them on the grill.  If you coat them in sauce and then wrap in the foil prior to placing them in the oven, they will turn out nicely.  Cleanup is easy as you just toss the foil out.

Don B. – You’re a good friend for helping him out, and it looks like fun too.  You’ll have plenty of time to work on the layout if the wife pushes you out of the business. Smile, Wink & Grin

Brutus – I’m glad you’re feeling better.

Sayonara,

Joe

Howdy guys!  Had a little problem this morning, but I think I'm doing a lot better now and not feeling sick for once.  I was starving so made a big homemade hamburger for dinner, probably like 1/3 pounder!  Chewy got a little of it, but it was sure good.  Char and the kids are in KC enjoying the rain there.  It's been raining here on and off for 2 days, but we are glad to get some rain.  Chewy and I are hanging in there.  I do plan to work on the basement a big tomorrow - get the drain centered and fill/concrete for the shower floor.  That should only take a couple of hours though.  Watching some old monster movies and having a couple brews seems like a good idea right now - good night!

Tardis Train Crew, let's go!  We've got Blue Moon and also Harvest-Pumpkin Ale (which is okay, but not as good as it sounds).  Ciao!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evenng!

WELL I'M BACK !   (I think)

Summer at the amusement park is pretty much over, as of Tuesday we go back to the "winter schedule".  And I am VERY thankful for that!  This past month has been absolutely grueling!  Especially with the weather so hot here.  But what has made it really miserable is the humidity, especially in the cab of the steam engine.  The only good news is that I lost about 14 lbs.  During the winter months the park will only run the steam engine and train on the weekends, except for a few weeks prior to Christmas.  During the week will be running the Galloping Goose.  Of course the hours are less, which is fine with me, will go down to 3 or 4 days a week.

During these past 3 months, my wife has been running our business, and has done a fantastic job!  So will be interesting to see how much she lets me back in. Confused  I think that has been one of the biggest benefits, especially for the "long term"

Oh yeah, if any of you watch "America's Got Talent" on Tuesday evening an Extreme Air, Bike and Acrobatic team will be performing.  They have been doing 2 shows 5 nights a week at Knott's.  These kids are REALLY Great, you might want to check it out.  I've been watching them all summer.  (BTW Sarah is a definite 10)

Just to make sure I don't get too bored with all the new found time I will be having,  I have committed myself to helping a good friend build a layout.  It is a rather large one 16x22.  And it is what HE wants, I think it has over 52 switches on it.  I have spent about 2 years working on different designs for him, I think we have one for every room in their house.  But this is the one he was able to negotiate with his wife,  So we will see.  Below is a image of the layout design, (I hope)

We started building table tops this past Thursday, so should make some progress later this week.  Bob (owner) is currently on disability due to Carpel Tunnel issues, so building it would really be a problem for him, so I really don't mind doing it.  (BTW Ray -- Same Bob that helped me with your bridges.)

I have managed to get some work done on my layout this summer as well.  I essentially have a Figure 8 surround by 2 main line ovals.  2 of the figure 8 legs have bridges that have been lift out bridges.  I now have them hinged, which makes the area MUCH more accessible, should have done that years ago!  Also have the G scale "Dogbone" in the back yard about 1/2 done.  (It's just been way too hot to work on it, even if I would have had the time.  So will have to work that in as well.

So now all I have to do is figure out the new forum format, Hopefully this will post.

Take Care and God Bless

Don

Good evening all,

Rainy in SE Indiana.  Mike Conway driving for AJ Foyt Racing was second quick in qualifying for the Baltimore race tomorrow.  Due to an engine change, he will start 11th or 12th, but it was nice to see the #14 car back at the top of the qualifying order.  Hopefully a good finish tomorrow will translate into some momentum for next year.  Scored a bunch of stuff at Half-Priced Books 20% off sale today, including two train books.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

It was overcast most of today but it did go to 85. I had a nice day, watched football, had a nap and still had enough time to sit outside and finish CTT. The Banilla has been served but there is plenty for the Thingy crew.. ...S.J.

Good morning all, happy September the oneth.  I think L.A. County fair opens today.  Always during the hotest time of the year.  Doubt if I will be caught dead over there.  Only thing of interest to me is outdoor railroad and even that is not what it used to be.

Made some Bar-B-Que country style pork ribs yesterday.  I boiled them first then finished on the grill with sauce.  Think I lost about half the weight in the cooking.  Whole project is too labor intensive and getting rid of the greasy water is always a problem.  I don't put it down the sink.  Just chilled it and skimmed off the fat from the top.  Poured remaining water into a hole in the ground.  Next time, I wlll just buy some precooked Tony Roma Ribs and heat up in the oven.

No plans today.  Just lay low from the heat.

Later,

Ray

Good morning all,

It is cloudy with Isaac's rain hopefully on the way.  "My" soccer teams both won Thursday with the girls 3-0 and the boys 2-0.  What was particularly gratifying was that I reminded the girls that this was one of the 6  I expected them to win.  Last year they lost to this team, and I would like to think that the fact I believed they could win might have helped with the motivation.  The coach did a great job of subbing in a timely and appropriate manner.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

It's 70 kinda between cloudy and sunny. I just peeked in the kitchen and grannys fixin biscuits and gravy. We did some outdoor chores yesterday and probably won't hear from the kids so it would appear we will be home alone for the weekend. September 1st already.....it can't be.....S.J.

Good morning. It's 78°, humidity is 96%. There's a fair chance of rain. The high will be 91° but will feel like 104°.

No plans for today. I feel very tired and my eyes are hurting. I think I'll just use today to get some rest. It's not like I'm going anywhere.

Morning all,

Well George the cat just decided to come home. He was out all night but it is just starting to rain and they say it will all day so now he shows up. Tongue Tied

Fife, JimProbe, My lower wisdom teeth were impacted and they had to be broken into two parts and cut out from the flesh and chipped out of the jaw bone. I was about 24 years old when they took them out.  The dentist gave me a scrip for morphine sulfate. I said that stuff is for the battle field and he smiled and said, you will think you were there when the Novocaine is gone.  He was right.  Surprise Don't remember anything that bad since.  Dead

Darn Caterpillar I see has not made my direct deposit into my account. I got all of the bills done and ready to mail but no money. They love to screw you if the first falls on a weekend. Bet they don't deposit it till Tuesday now. They love to hold your money as long as they can. Angry  If I call the bank they will say it has not been deposited but Cat's deposit slip I got in the mail said deposit date 9-1-12. They even call it the Non-Contributory Pension Plan. Huh?    I think I contributed 36 years to get it. Bang Head  It is tuff when you only get paid once a month to line up all of your bills but I have been doing it for about 8 years now.

Rain is falling. Thank you Lord.

Mormin' moys. Wade-a-mimen, goda tah da gawz out.  Cloudy and 77 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Well, got that nasty tooth pulled yesterday right after work.  Full hour in the chair, and had to be numbed 4x, but it's done.  Spent rest of the evening at the beach, strummin' the uke.

New backdrop is really coming along, and Alexis has been enjoying using the tree stamps to "forest" the hillsides.  I Have these pale yellow storage cabinets in the layout room, and continued the scenery on them too.  Really brightens up the space.  Can't wait to begin the benchwork.

Probe - No sense waiting.  Get it taken out and be done with.  My wisdom teeth were a bad experience, which is why I hadn't been back in over a decade.  Wifey's are killing her right now...

Konnichiwa,

Last night, the wife and I went out to dinner sans kids.  We ended up at an off-base place known for its rice dishes.  This place’s ordering process consisted of putting money into a vending machine device and selecting the items by pushing the buttons.  The machine provides you tickets which you then hand to the waitress after having a seat.  The machine buttons had pictures but the descriptions were written in Japanese which always presents us the opportunity for some excitement. Surprise  We were able to get my wife a rice and egg dish which was very good.  We also had some gyoza (dumplings) and they were great as well.  However, the meal I ordered was not to my liking.  It was a noddle dish and it tasted fine, but it was served cold.  The Japanese do have many cold noodle dishes; I just prefer my noodles hot.  The other treat in my dish was something I thought was supposed to be a radish but actually turned out to be some sort of fish parts Ick! – it did not leave a good taste in my mouth.  Next time, I’ll stick to the rice dishes.

Today I planned to take the family to a nearby mountain for an easy hike and some waterfall viewing; however, it has been raining most of the day so that could not happen.  I think we will go bowling after dinner tonight.  I’ve been doing chores around the house and was also able to watch the MSU-BSU football game; it was a good one.  I also was able to catch a ride on the Tardis with Brutus, SJ, and Kev.  I was able to say hello to Charlie before the Tardis ride.

Kev – I’m glad the wife made it safely.  I’m looking forward to seeing the loading dock photos.

Sayonara,

Joe

What remains of Isaac got here today.  The cloud line was just north of town when I drove to work this morning.  Got some much needed rain on and off most of the day.

TGIF!

Ran trains a bit tonight.  Built a train with all of my ACF stock cars.  The best looking combination was when I had the A-B-A Texas Special FT's pulling the train.

We've got some foundation shifting going on because of the drought.  Had a couple of contractors out to look at it.  It is going to put a dent in the funds I set aside for investment - then again, I'm just investing in something I did not originally plan on investing in at this time.

All for now.

Jeffery, I think you should of planned on replacing those brake hoses at that age. better safe than sorry. I have replaced both of the calipers on my 2001 Dodge. I changed one and a week later the other one froze up. Bang Head

Yep! I should have! Chalk another one up for Mr Murphy.

No rain yet from the leftovers from Isaac but the weather guesser seems sure we will get some from it. I hope so.  Storm George is missing in action so he must think it is not going to rain anytime soon.

It took the wife 1.4 hours to get to the daughters place after she got off of work. 18 miles??? Confused She forgot to turn on her cell phone so the daughter was in freak out mode and called me like 2 times before the wife showed up. My wife could get lost in a fish bowl.  Dots - Sign

Well my nephew had time to work on the van today. We got the wheel off, inspected the caliper and it was locked up all right. We got it backed off so it could be removed. The brake hose was still in good shape. Then the caliper was knocked off and fell to the ground and busted the brake hose off at the center support bracket. Darn! Only part I didn't have! I've ordered a new one through O'Reilly but it's going to be Wednesday when it comes in due to the holiday. The cost is $30. The brake hose costs more than the caliper did. So caliper $15, pads $15, brake hose $30. There's $60. Throw in the jack, another $55. Total so far $115. So looks like it's going to be on the jack stand for a few days. I put the wheel back on and turned a couple of the lug nuts finger tight so if Mr Murphy says the stand should fail for some reason it won't slam the front end into the ground.

Kev,

I've never seen one of those Loading Docks outside of the '96 catalog.  From what I've heard, they didn't do much of anything, and their high price didn't help sales.

 Jim,

I don't know what they cost new but I only got $28.45 in it with the shipping and it was sealed in the box.. If I could do it over I would pass. I will post some pictures later when I finish the scene. Thumbs Down

Kev,

I think they were $100-$150 new.Surprise  I'll have to find the catalog and check it out.
