Banks,

Here is what the corn crop looks like around here. The ears are super small and have no kernels. Sad

Good morning all,

A little cooler this morning but warming up later.

Jack, you're right.  I am keeping cordial but cautious with the neighbor.  I told the wife the proof of the pudding on this job will be this winter when the rains come to see how the drainage is.  It test OK with a water hose but that's nothing like a heavy rain run off.

Chief, with all that tobacco behind the box, you can make your own cigars.  Been a long time since I saw any growing but helped put it in once when I was a kid just handing bunches to women who tied it on the sticks to hang up in the tobacco barn.  Prayers for all the farmers having drought.

Tomorrow is the memorial service for my friend, Ed Harrigan.

later,

Ray

Well, turns out that this "older" guy needs cataract surgery.  A little apprehensive!  Have any of you had this done?  As always, many thanks.

My mother had the cataract surgery some years ago. She went from blind as a bat to reading without glasses or contacts.

This is what I've done on the chopped roof F unit slug shell so far. The roof will stay taped down until the glue dries. Later I'll work some modeling clay into the seam to close it up. For a comparison of how low the roof is the end of an uncut shell is to the right. I'm using an old Athearn Hi-F shell for this project.

My mother had the cataract surgery some years ago. She went from blind as a bat to reading without glasses or contacts.

Traindaddy........all of the folks I know who have had cataract lens removal and replacement surgery with the correcting IOL interocular lens replacement lens (pretty much standard now) have declared the results as "miracles!"

My mother-in-law had both eyes done a half dozen years ago  and for the first time in about 80 years she did not need to wear glasses or any other form of corretive lens except for "readers."

The plain, clear IOL lens was first introduced to the public back in the very early 1980s and was subsequently upgraded with correctible ones (nearsightedness and farsightedness correction are the most common corrections).  I worked at American Hospital Supply Corporation back then.  They were subsequently acquired by Baxter Healthcare.  We were one of the first outfits to distribute them.  Sold like hotcakes!!

So you can rest assured that a zillion of the IOL procedures have been performed and refined over the past 3 decades.  Talk to your opthalmic surgeon about the results you can expect.

Do some internet reading and it will not only ease your mind but might make you chomp at the bit to get it done.  Think my MIL was in and out in under 45 minutes (done under local anesthesia, outpatient) and within 48 hours the postoperative results were stunning.  One other major advantage of the cataract removal will be your night vision.  For example, the cataracts make the oncoming headlights miserable to contend with, and the cataract removal helps with that too.

Good luck!!!  Now you just might be able to see like an eagle!!!

HELP!!!!!! Should have known!!!

Buckeye, when working for a former employeer, surveyed all the bridges and tunnels for NS.  They were to determine what to do with them so double stacks could travel through them.

Well, seems I need to hire Buckeye to come to a study on the Roseyville Division of the NS.  The two Lionel bridges at the main lift bridge are 1" too short for double stacks.  Crying

Traindaddy, granny had both eyes done last year. She could not believe how bright colors really are after surgery. She read 20/20 without glasses. I doubt if everyone gets results like that though. Our "potter" Doug M. just had his done. He will probably reply as well.

Aloha. Boy, it's hot. And gas just jumped 40 count 'em 40 cents a gallon the last few days. Allegedly due to a pipe spill in WI and refinery issues. Sheesh. Todays trip to pick up the teen after his orientation week at college probably cost me $30 in gas for a quarter tank. Sheesh. Great chat with the TARDIS guys last night. Bride went to her high school reunion with her GF tonight so I will run trains. Lucky I didn't have to go.

Jack, I think the boy will get better with his z-pack now. The CDC suspects a lot of pertussin / whooping cough vaccine years ago was too weak so many kids are getting these illnesses in the county lately.

Traindaddy, I just had cataract surgery - it went easy and pain-free, just took a while - first one eye done, then two weeks later, the other eye, then wait a month. Private-message me here and I'm happy to reassure you in more detail and give you any details

Good evening all,

It is cloudy but no rain in SE Indiana.  Lucas got an apartment in Greensburg today so we spent most of the day transferring stuff to the new place.  Most of it got moved today, and they will be getting help tomorrow.  "Saucy wench" and I helped more than we thought we would.  Tired.  Getting for Mid-Ohio trip as well.  TBIL and I can drive.  Conway and Newgarden were in top 10 at practice today for AJ and Sarah.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Still 90. My dad always said don't fish on Sunday cause all the good fish are in Sunday school. I'm going anyway. I hope I don't come home looking like a boiled lobster. I sat out for a little while but it doesn't take long to feel hot. Banilla is in the freezer but we will take it along in the thingy..S.J.

Hello All,

Busy weekend planned.

Some of you may remember the AMTMA lost the lease on their digs???????????                    Well they found a new location and now will be open every weekend. Only 5 minutes from me. Hope to take the grandkids this weekend

May go to dirt drags with son tomorrow evening.  A young friend of his needs coaching and he asked me to help

Kev, That corn looks similar to a lot of what I saw while traveling. Some was completely brown as if it were late fall and only 3 or 4 feet high. Even some that was under irrigation was really short. Low water table & high energy costs mean they can't irrigate as much as needed.

Had to take Dad to the Dr. yesterday. He looked like he**. Doc said he had a flu & probably a cold. Gave him Z-pack to take. Must've been a miracle cure. 91 degrees when I got home this PM & he is mowing grassBang Head

Son checked some of our corn today. The ears are small and some of them are blind(no grain) That could have been caused by many things. Hoping the high corn prices will allow what we do get to get us to the breakeven point.

He also told me that although the soy bean is  responding well he is afraid there isn't enough time for them to recover.

Off to join Mrs in bed

Prayers for those in need

Time for me to call it a night. Got the charging system on my van checked today. Alternator is good. Voltage regulator was bad, it was putting out 24 volts so replaced that. New one was $20. Just happened to have a $20 bill in my pocket. Battery checked out good. See y'all tomorrow.

Hats off to Mark Tarwater, who paddled 340 miles in 83 hours.  I'll bet he is sleeping "good" in a real bed right now!

Worked and then went to Saint Charles to visit with family and watch Mark finish his race.  Nice chat with the guys tonight.  Could use some banilla, so let's get the Tardis warmed up - go!

Konnichiwa,

Our Saturday has been going well.  The original plan was to go to the indoor batting cages and then to the local festival.  Well, the plans changed.  The kids did not want to do that and instead wanted to go to the pool and throw the Frisbee-like boomerang.  So, that’s what we did.  I will start dinner soon: we decided to grill some burgers.  I was able to enjoy a nice chat earlier with RT, SJ, Kev, and Brutus.

Congratulations to your brother Brutus!  That is very impressive.

Brutus: Congrats to your BiL.

Good morning. It's 77° with 93% humidity. It will be partly cloudy with a small chance of rain. The high will be 95° with an index near 110°.

My plan today is to stay inside as much as possible. I did a little more work on the slug last night. Sanded the sides a bit to smooth them out more. The hot glue I used to fill in the portholes made quite a mess and that stuff doesn't like to come off easily. I'll probably do some cleanup work on the layout today. It's a mess after all that work yesterday.

Good morning,

Hot and hazy 84 going up to 104. Tongue Tied  Calling for a little rain tonight.

Worked on the layout yesterday added a Loc on in a spot that seemed a little slow it is a old Marx 34R turn. It is also the tightest turn on my outer loop. Seems much better now.

Not much planned with that forecast. Train room sounds good to me.
