Good morning all,
Amen to what you said, RI52! IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. Practiced with "my" soccer girls last night. Will have to play entire game tonight with no subs. Fortunately will be on a smaller field. The "saucy wench" likes the new refrigerator. Dog must have eaten something that disagreed with her as she has been banished to the outdoors until whatever ails her has gone completely thru her system. TBIL after game, but will be in no shape to drive. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a sunny 56 degrees. Going up to 82 today with sunshine.
Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping and I am working on a project. A few chores to do and then put the groceries away. Lunch and a nap, later.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Blownout.....I keep you in my mind and in my daily prayers. You are too headstrong and ornery to let this beat you. Besides, our prayers here work!!!
Thanks, Jeff. My FIL was born (at home as was the custom) back in pre-Depression 1921......and that is the mindset he was raised with. One only went to the Doctor under extreme circumstances or you went to the hospital to die. Common sense does not come into play. Fear is the other factor, the fear of finding out something is terribly wrong medically. Ignorance is bliss for my FIL, chalking up this and that as a natural byproduct of aging rather than something that can be mitigated, improving the quality of life.
Another factor is $$$, a "saving and scrimping" way of life that was a product of the Depression when so many could not put food on the table and lived meal to meal.....hopefully with a roof over their heads and a meager job to keep things together and afloat..
My FIL has Medicare and a supplementary policy. Yet he sees what his annual out of pocket medical expenses, premiums, and other related costs are per year (drugs for my MIL): $7K +.. He worries about spending money, any amount, no matter how small on himself.
The Greatest Generation folks were self sufficient and put money in the bank, a penny at a time. And for those who remain from that Generation, they are incredulous at how their children and grandchildren and now great grandchildren spend money as fast as they get it with no concern for tomorrow.
My FIL adamantly refuses to use a cell phone or a PC, even when we have given them to him, even when we have also paid for the services!!!! He just gets angry at what he sees is an unnecessary expense and a total waste of $$$. The cell phone and PC just sit in a box. Give him his 3 newspapers and basic cable TV and he is good to go.
We are there for my wife's folks if they are worried about making their nest egg last. But the mindset is also that they want to leave some inheritance as well. Hmmmmm, go to the Doctor and live life as comfortably as you can, as you are able, or maintain that inheritance. He picks the latter.
These things and ways about our parents and grandparents are not things we can change. We can only be there to help in any way we can......and not offend their sense of pride, self respect, dignity, and independence. Easier said than done. God bless them for what they have given us and taught us. I only wish they would use a bit more of common sense and realize that we are there for them now as they have been there for us then.

Hi GUYZ,
62 here and windy. I took MINNIE for her mile walk then ran a nice easy into the wind 3 miler. Ate breakfast now take MINNIE for a 4 mile walk to the river and back. Then mow grass then do a 6 mile bike ride. Ah love this retirement. Gives me a chance to mosey on down the road a few times a day.
CHIEF, good work on the WRECK TANGLE.
JACK, WOW thats a big plate o stuff you got there.
BLOWNOUT, prayers for you and BRUTI.
HUDSON JOHN, YOU'RE getting there brother.
PHILLYREADING, prayers for the job.
JOEY D, nice to do a 7 miler. The most I have done in a while is 6 miles. My knees are aching after long runs so I try and suppliment the training with more walks and now the biking.
SIR JAMES. is your porch on the runway for the TARDIS? Seems like you're the first one on there with BINELLA?

Good night all. Benchwork framed all the way around the Box. Just the middle to do. Changed a bunch of the peninsulas. Removed two and added to the middle one. Widened the sides.
Off to Edgecombe Co. to the farm for some "deer things".
Blown, prayers.
Prayers for firefighters on the big fires out west.

Char is doing a lot better today. FOund out a friend was sick, but he did go to the hospital and is 100 times better now with a stent. He'll be out tomorrow. Bad time to be around me, I guess - everyone is getting sick!
Don B - that's a shame on that goose man. Maybe another time?
TARDIS is ready and I found the key where you left it, Mike, so let's get a move on!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Time for me to call it a night. Took my night meds a little while ago and just did my 100 unit insulin injection so I should be good to go. See y'all tomorrow.

It's 72 now, a warm but windy day. I had no real chores so spent some time on the porch with CTT. Got my nap and started our usual evening routine. There doesn't seem to be any train news coming from the store this week. Granny just made popcorn but I'm going for the banilla. A large group on the Tardis chat last night...S.J.

Good evening everyone. Has been a great day. Got the kids off to vacation bible school, then to work for a short bit. Little bit of aggravation, but nothing too bad. Got to have lunch with a great friend who has a busy schedule, so was nice to catch up. Came home to spend a quality afternoon with my bride filling out visa information for China and finally pick up kids.
Joe, email Lifeway regarding the Australia simulcast. Even though it is delayed a month, it would most likely be better time wise for you. Here, it will go from 7pm Eastern to 9pm. That may be a tough time for you to see it, unless you can while at work? Either way, I think you will get a lot out of it. Any one of the speakers would be worth it, but for all of them up there, I am sure a Lot of good information.
V8, yeah, I do think that is the best way of looking at things. I had a home on the market for six months, then it got into a bidding war. Got a good profit, but that was a much better time to sell. Now, homes are mostly sitting on the market for a long time. Mot are taking a big hit. My sister in law sold a 6,000sq ft home on the 18th green of a golf course for 450,000. Nothing compared to the value a few years ago, but they had to sell it.
Brutus, will keep Char in prayer. Also, blown cylinder, same for you sir.
Gotta head to bed. Have some of the Feds here to do inspections and I will have to be on my toes to provide all the department type stuff they will need as well as doing my regular scheduled cases.
God bless,
Dennis

Welcome back Jack, missed your wrap up of forum happenings at a glance. Had to do it all myself.
Did a little puttering around on the layout this morning and spent about an hour just changing tires on an MTH Alco PA. It's usually a simple job but this time one of the wheels which had bullfrog snot on it started thowing it off and got some of the material jammed in the gears. Had to take truck apart to clean it out. Replaced with the usual rubber tires which are working good so far. I like running the Santa Fe Alco's. Someone called them the best looking diesel. I have an A-B-A set with and extra powered B unit. Only problem is that the color is not a perfect match. (too bright). My powered A unit has a horn that won't stop blowing so I disconnected it. This is one of the early units with only a reverse unit and a horn. No sounds etc. Parked my F3 MTH set and giving them a rest now. The 7 car train is all Santa Fe streamline by MTH.
No decicision on what's for dinner yet tonight. I have been doing the cooking lately because I like to sometimes but I have run out of ideas. Wife might make a tuna casserole. I cooked some steak last night so we can't do that again. We like to eat out a lot too but it is getting too expensive for even the simple things. Seems like we spend 30-35 dollars everytime we go out. You can buy a lot of groceries for that.

Ray

Good Evening...
Sunny and actually a bit cooler and less sticky out than we were this morning. We actually got a few monsoonal things show up here and dump on us..of course, after the showers came, for a short while, our ever popular humid bucket ....
I went to the hospital today to get the second session of treatments done...grrrrrrCancer can go ^&^% itself....
Anyhooo...have a good evening!!
Jack: for your family...
Thanks, Joe. I just got done reading the last 9 pages, trying to work my way back the two weeks I have been gone.
The short of it is this: my 91 year old FIL has been in the hospital, in poor shape, primarily because his modus operandi is that he only goes to see a Doctor laying on a gurney in an ambulance with paramedics in attendance. He needs Dennis this time around; and because of his age, every decision on a course of treatment has risky downsides. My wife is quite worried, so I told her we may be taking a roadtrip West to make a visit. My SIL's Aunt in her mid 89s.....yup, in the hospital here. Visits and babysitting have kept us tied up. Add in dog obedience and protection training, competition in Maine, the Chief Michael Maloney Memorial Trust benefit we threw, a week's visit from my sister, and my wife's bright idea to babysit (here) a 3 month old puppy for some friends....then she gets called out of town on business, leaving me holding the bag (of poop and pee). .
The rest of the calendar has been overloaded, so I will try to post in pieces.
Later.
Ohayō,
I’ll be leaving for work in a few minutes. It looks like the rain will let up today. One of these days when everything dries out I will need to mow the yard. I was able to have a seven-mile run after work yesterday. I took the older boy to his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class and I went for my run while he was in class. I usually like to watch his class but I needed to get my run in and his instructor did not mind. It was raining while I was running but I was prepared for it so it didn’t bother me. I have a full plate of things to do at work so I should be on my way.
Banks – I hope your mom’s follow-up goes well. I’d be careful down in Chief’s neck of the woods; you saw what they tried to do to Buckeye.
Dennis – Thanks for the information. I will do some research today, and if the timing works out I don’t mind spending $5.00.
Laz – The morning run does get me moving. And it seems if I don’t do it I tend to make poor eating choices throughout the day as well.
Fife – Enjoy the dinner. Just think of all the trains those folks could buy.
Jack – to the forum.
Sayonara,
Joe
Just a quick sip, I have been MIA for the past two weeks, as Fife would put it "busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger." I will try catch up on some of my reading and then try to slide back into the swing of things here.
Later, gang.
I was running the GP7's and GP35 earlier today and I heard something that I seldom hear on a layout. A flat spotted wheel. I checked it and it's really flat spotted. It's in a Proto 2000 AAR truck on an Athearn GP35.Listen as the locos pass left to right and you'll hear it. Click here for the video.
Got a break here as the storms are moving off to the south-east. We've been getting royally slammed! The yard looks like a cat two hurricane went through. Limbs and branches down, pine cones all over the place. Took a couple of lightning strikes on trees near my trailer. Looks like I might lose one. There's power lines all around my yard so if it dies I can get the power company to come take it down. Nothing else going on right now.
Lunch time:
We have been very busy at work. Now if they would hire more people.
Our 2 year old Black Lab / Pointer from NC decided that he does not like possums in his yard any more. Last night one played "possum" on him. I am sure that he will be looking for him again.
Brutus, Hang in there! prayers for you, Char and Mom.
Banks, Safe trip and prayers.
Blown Out: Prayers and hang in there.
Joe Demay: that Japanese ball game sound great.
Laz: Happy retirement. 171 for me to go!!!
Prayers for all in need.
Have a Great Day.
I will be looking for you guys on the Tardis tonight.
John
dbaker48 The Goose Fest is scheduled for this weekend in Colorado, we have been working at Knotts to prepare #3 for the event. All freshly painted, new lettering, and looking great. Management decided not to let it go, a couple of days ago. Many people are upset about that, especially the 11th hour decision. So it will be setting at the park until it is put back in service this fall. It would have been a historic event for all of them to have been there, would have been the first time ever! I can understand the concerns at Knotts regarding the Risk/Benefit issues. But, too bad it was such a late determination.

Count me in as one of the VIP major unhappy voices as that was a major drawing factor that I will hold against Knotts for a very long time as this is not the first time they pulled the plug on this event!

D. Baker, too bad about the goose. Worst part like you said was the late hour decision. Congratulations on that G scale steam engine. Sounds like a good find. Let me know if it runs. Looking forward to hearing more about what you guys did when your visitor was here.
Watched movie last night with Art Carney. "Harry and Tonto". Good flick. Carney is always good.
Prayers for folks in the fire area of Colorado.
Brutus, sorry you had such a rough day. Hope things are better now.

Another nice day on the North Bluff. Much cooler and nicer than yesterday’s heat but they say it will be back in a day or two. I found a sure-fire way to get my wife up out of bed. Just tell her that the raccoons knocked over one of her planters. Well prayers for Blownout, Brutus and those in need. Happy birthday to your wife LAZ.

Greetings All,
Just to drop in and give a Howdy.
Had a visitor for awhile, had a great time! (More on that later)
Still pushing the Steam engine around Knotts, the "part time" position has grown into a full time job. Working 40 hours a week ! It is getting a little confusing, I believe I am paying for my OWN SS.
Have a couple of days off, today need to do some work at in-laws, install/repair a bathroom light fixture, fix some dripping faucets, and probably do the lawn. Then tomorrow, do our lawn, and help the wife out on a few things.
Havn't had time to do much with the trains, maybe tomorrow evening. Will try and manage some train time for a friend of mine this evening. He asked for my help on his layout, building the table top, and wiring. Did the planning for him and it is a big layout. So will try and help as possible.
Work on my G scale dogbone had not gone real far. I have the ground preparred, track bed arranged, track configured, (but not installed). Last weekend I did get to a train store Clearance Sale and found a G-Scale C-16 Steam engine. The engine is identical to what I operate at Knotts, only thing is it Yellow. I originally thought I would repaint it. But did some research on the engine and found what I got is quite rare, my cost was $40, original MSRP was $500, current value $700-$900. So dont think I will repaint, and will most likely only get outside rarely.
Need to get going.
Hope everyone stays healthy and wealthy!
Regards
Don
Mornin' boys. Mid-Atlantic ---> . Oh, and our president is in town for a 10K per plate fund-raiser.
Speaking of "change", I just changed the oil in the Chevy. Gas is down to $3.33. Never see $2 again.
Good morning. It's 79° and thunder is rumbling. The high will be 92°. There's a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. The wind is coming up, trees are bowing over and debris is hitting my little trailer. I can hear the thunder getting closer. Not a drop of rain yet. All indications point to this being sleeping weather. I'm not feeling well today so I may get some sleep in later. Thunder is getting closer. Time to go.
