Hello all

Another quiet night on the hill collecting photons.

Stourbridge - thanks for the photos of the Goosefest! Pretty Cool!

BOC - hang in there

Ray - prayers for your friend

DongM - hope it all goes well

Well, I'll be heading up to Phoenix on Thursday to bring back my friend's '74 VW Bus and sell it for her. Should be an entertaining day, but hopefully not too entertaining. When I get back there will be 17 air cooled cylinders kicking around my place, not to mention the other 6 in the spare Corvair block I have!

Not sure I'll take the bus on the campout I have this weekend. Would be fun, but we'll have to see how it does on Thursday. My friend doesn't drive it that much and this will be it's longest trip since it went up to Phoenix from Tucson a few years ago.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s.  Had the contractor over to the house to revise some of the work we want done.  Won't be quite as much as we hoped, but we will have enough for 2 train tables, one Standard and one O-27.  It will be nice when all is done, but it will take a while, probably early next year.  May scrimmage with "my" soccer girls tonight, weather permitting.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  Prayers for BOC, been there, done that with Lucas.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 68 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Fifepup and I are going out to wave the tall ships goodbye from the yatchet.  Will probably anchor off of Fort Howard.  Gotta give the new ship's bell a workout. Pirate

Good morning. It's 74° and partly cloudy. There's a small chance of rain this morning increasing a bit in the afternoon. The high will be 88°.

This morning I'll be busy mowing my parents yard. Afterward I'll spend some time cleaning up my work area on the layout. I also have a UP boxcar that's serious need of some weight and a pair of couplers.

Another hot one today on the North Bluff. It is already 84 and going to 98. Surprise We did get 1.8" of rain on Saturday night but it was sucked up in a heartbeat and none made it into any puddles. The corn and beans jumped up like crazy. All used up by now but it helped.

I tried to use my credit card Friday and it did not work. Bang HeadThen I got a letter from them to give them a call. It seems that someone in Minnesota was trying to put charges against it over the lovely Internet. I have had that same card a long time. Super Angry

So I got a new card with a new number UPS overnight yesterday. Glad they caught it.

Konbanwa,

The weather was great this morning but it quickly changed this afternoon.  Right now at 10:33 PM Japan time it is crazy outside.  We are experiencing a typhoon and the sustained winds around 40 mph with some serious gusts.  It will get a little stronger overnight and then hopefully be gone by sunrise.  We have received a great deal of rain as well.  I read where Japan has about 25 typhoons a season which runs from late May until November; much like hurricane season in the US.  I secured some of the outdoor items earlier today and I will be off to bed soon, after I power down the laptops.

SP Ray – I had the honor and privilege of meeting one of the last remaining Tuskegee Airmen this past October.  He spoke about the difficulties he and his fellow Red Tails faced; however, he never let it stop him from flying and serving his country.  Even today he has no ill will and he is a true gentleman and hero; a very classy guy.  I’ll pray for your SIL’s relative.

Chief – Thanks, you and the rest of the Potters do a good job of that.

Doug M. – I hope your cataract procedure goes well.  I’ll be praying for you.

Kev – I’m glad your credit card company caught that for you; they likely saved you a great deal of money and headaches.  Most identify theft victims are not so fortunate.

Sayonara,

Joe

It's 83 now heading for 95. I was out early doing some errands so now I think I will stay in. A/C has spoiled all of us. Laz I did get a Lionel NYC 2 bay hopper customized by my friend Andy. He put our D3R decal over the NYC oval. Came out looking good. We had enough guys last night for a good chat no world problems solved, we gave up, it can't be done.

Good afternoon everyone.  Did the early case and got things going for some other cases, but I was able to leave as schedule slowed down.  It was nice to get out and have a good lunch and take care of some business.  We have some running around to do for the adoptions, but most of the work is out of our hands till we get our travel approval.

BOC, continued prayers.  Can't say I have been there, but will pray for God to meet you at your need, He knows.  I have some friends who are going through multiple cancers in their family.  Some ups and a lot of downs, but a positive mindset makes a huge difference.  May God bring peace and comfort, and healing to you.

Chief, sounds like the hi-speed rail system they are pushing in California.  Hey, we are out of money, but we can build this transportation system that most don't want, but don't worry, it will never pay for itself.  It would be great if politicians actually kept promisses, and if they would use discipline when spending other people's money.

Well, time to get to some visa work.
May God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all, thank you all for the prayers for my SIL's relative college student.  His operation went very well yesterday according to the doctors.  He was in surgery about four hours.  The only problem is that they won't let him stay at the hospital very long because of limitations on his insurance.  UCLA charges something like $5000 per day for a hospital stay and the insurance won't pay that much.  He had been living on campus which is out now and his home is about 50 miles from the hospital.  His mother will have to work out some arrangement for therapy closer to home.  Otherwise she faces a 100 mile round trip every time he goes to therapy.  Hope all this traveling doesn't upset the surgery that he had.  This whole deal is hard on his family since his mother is a widow and has to do everything herself.  I hope that some of his late father's brothers will be able to help out.  I know my DIL who is his aunt will help in whatever way she can.

Blownout, prayers for you too.  Keep up the good fight!

Stourbridge, thanks for the goose photo.  Will try to find the rest on your blog.  I know a lot of folks were disappointed when Knott's made a last minute decision not to send their goose too.

Dennis, you're right about the high speed rail in California.  The state is broke and they are closing some services and parks.  I used to be a supporter but this is the wrong time.  We can't afford it.  I don't know how much demand there is either.  They only have one Amtrak train per day that goes all the way from L.A. to San Francico/Oakland and that is sold out in the summer.  Maybe they could put on another regular train.  Would be a lot cheaper than high speed rail.

later,

Ray

Any ideas what caused the derailment Kev?

Grass is cut!! I had to fix the tractor before I could use it. If you remember last time I broke a control end. I had the part, just hadn't gotten around to putting it on. It took me ten minutes to change it out using a pair of pliers and vise grips. Now I'm back home and it's starting to rain. While I was down there I took twenty minutes to put a new weed trimmer together. It's a model I haven't seen before so it took a bit longer than usual.

Afternoon all.  Another long day.  Fred here early.  Off to Hardees for breakfast.  Then Lowes for 8" shelving boards.  Got shelving brackets.  Lowes did not have enough of the right brackets.  Over to Home Depot and got the rest.  Built shelving by cutting groves in the boards to match the flanges of the engines.  Now to move about thirty engines to the Box.  Up and down stairs.  OMG!!!!! Sigh  Will do photos when through.

Tired but keep on going.  Had to cut boards and grove them in the 90+ degree weather.

Watering gardens and new grass.

Good news Doug M.

Blown, still praying and God bless.

Darren, I checked out your Blog site and the pictures and story line is great stuff! Yes

Chief, any other time you may have been right. Whistling

Jeffery and Bolwnout Cyl, NTSB report is.

Yeah I do know what happened, This is an old 1971 8142 MPC issue that was a dead train when I got it from my dad’s collection. I had to bolt the motor frame together because the tabs were bad. I got it to run but it is uneven running at best. It also has a high center of gravity and is top heavy so anyway when it hit the 34" radius curve " tightest on the layout" it was going to fast and just flipped off the rails. My fault. I need to post a speed restriction on that curve.

You guys have a good night.

Saw 5 tall-masters, while we anchored between Sparrows Point and Fort Carroll.  Ate our $5 foot-longs and took pics.  Hundreds of other boaters apparently playing hookie out there today.

Hudson - As soon as the cloud cover went away, it got kinda toasty out there.

Doug Murphy, good news on the eye surgery.

Fife, sounds like fun watching the tall ships.  I think I saw them once around Norfolk when I was visiting my relatives back there.  $5 for a foot long?  I guess that's about average nowadays.  We get a kosher hot dog and drink at Costco here for $1.50.  Best deal in town.

I've been trying to diagnose problem with Z1000 switch machine on a Ross Switch.  Makes a whirring noise and does not operate.  I think the gears are probably worn out.

Wife going to meeting tonight at church so we will order take out Chinese food for dinner and she can warm up when she gets back.  We are having the roof redone on our church starting this week.  Project way over due.  Big job account having to remove shingles with asbestos in them.  Men working in haz mat suits etc.  Pastor says they are also changing the filters and cleaning ducts for air conditioning.  We hope to be back in the church by next Sunday after the hazardous materials will have been removed but the whole job will take several weeks.  Daily masses are being conducted in the parish hall this week.  We had hoped to build a new church but the economic times have forced us to patch up the old one and use that for now.  It's good enough for me.

V8 Vega Dennis, I saw some gas around here for 3.79 per gal. a few days ago.  Hope it's not going up again.

later,

Ray

Dead tired.  Transported command diesels to the Box and shelved them.  Heavy "suckers".  Big box with beach towel in it for protection.  Used wheelborrow to carry box to the Box.  Tired of going up and down steps to train room with heavy diesels.  Got all the command ones there except one set of MTH A, B, A F units and one set of MTH PA A, B, A units.  Too tired to take them.  May work on steamers tomorrow.  Not as many of those.  Now I can start taking track up.  Then several hundred cars to take.

Used 1X8's for the shelving boards.  Used saw to cut groves in the boards to match the wheel flanges of engines.  Put double rows of engines.  Four shelves over work bench.  One row behind me up high and room for another on top.

This is the framing for the around the side benchwork.  In the middle, there will be a peninsula that goes from the benchwork going into the shop all the way to the right [at entrance] to the back benchwork.  There will be a 24" walk way around it to the right and between the back wall benchwork.  That peninsula will mainly be a switching yard.  As you come in the door, enough room for 4 people to stand before entering the layout.  There will be a lift bridge there to enter the layout.  Another one connnecting the peninsula to the right end benchwork.  Another to go into the shop at the door.  One more bridging the benchwork left of the door to the left front wall benchwork.

Off to bed after a shower.

Sleep tight.

PS: forgot to add.  Finn and his little brother Wiley.  Lucy and Finn are really good babysitters.
