Storms from down South and Southwest have moved off the coast after leaving 3.5 inches of much-needed rain this past few days.

I loved the group mug shot from York, must have been taken before you guys got into trouble.  I notice that none of the Yorkies have fessed up to any shennanigans.

Jeffrey.......the only way to deal with parents is to be straight up about what you can and can't do, what you will and won't do.  Then wait for it to go right over their heads about a day after they wholeheartedly agreed with you, shaking their heads in the affirmative.    Many moons ago I finally had to tell my Dad he needed a landscaper and a snow removal service because he couldn't do the stuff himself, he needed some semblance of independence, and I had a life with responsibilities.  He agreed, then did nothing, and my phone as usual started ringing.  I called the landscaper/snow removal service myself and sent them over there.  Dad finally bit.  The King and Queen will always remain at the top of the food chain, no matter how old the kids get.

RT.........thanks for sharing your ceiling layout!!!!  At long last!!!!  I've been praying for a good stress test for you and am thankful you got it.  Ar eyou sure it isn't the grits that ails you?   

KEV.......congrats on the re-retirement!!!!!  When is the party?  What should we bring?

Brutus.......where on earth are you going to get all the earth you will need to build the retention wall?  Great idea though, and the way the yard will work for you will make the expense of doing it well worth your while.

JoeyD.........good for you!!!!  It's about time the parents realize that they have some responsibilities in all of this, that the inmates don't run the asylum, and that you are volunteering your time for their collective benefit.  Sure, some kids have an attention span of a fruit fly.  But sooner or later life demands that they help their kids learn how to adapt and focus. 

Thanks you Yankee fans for your heartfelt harassment and teasing.  Stick a fork in the Red Sox.  10% into the season and they are done.  What is astounding is the payroll versus the results, especially the pitching staff if you can call it that.  It's like these guys are pitching batting practice to the Greek Gods.  They might have to start recruiting some free agents from JoeyD's little league team.  

LAZ...........I didn't catch what the tuition is for LAZ CAMP.   Why were you taking a knee in the York photo?  Late night the night before with the rest of the Potters?   

Roy........I very much enjoyed your dissertation on post hole digging.  Seriously, you had me laughing and shaking my head in the affirmative on every sentence.  If you didn't have so much important stuff buried where you are digging, dynamite might be a better choice. 

Fife........nice form in the York picture.  I got to wondering, what types of tattoos was Brent sporting to cover up his battle scars from his home improvement projects?

              I was thinking about sending you the 2343s that I bought last summer, but I think I know what would happen.

Looks like everyone had a good time at York.  If I would've had last Friday off, I was ready to pull a Chief.  Had Tuesday through Thursday off, and would've been in the car if I also had Friday off.  Will definitely get there in October if life doesn't get in the way too much.

Spent some time last week removing the stock shifter from the Mustang and installing the MGW short throw that everyone says is so great.  I've put about 20 miles on it, and the increased NVH is unbearable.  Will doublecheck my installation tonight hoping that I made an error.  If not, out it comes.

I had a good night’s sleep last night but the youngest still woke up too early (0550) for my liking.  I don’t mind waking up early when I have to go to work but since I’m not returning to work until next week it would have been nice to sleep longer.  It is partly sunny right now and today’s high is 70˚, but we may have a shower or two throughout the day.  The kids and I will finish some schoolwork and then we will spend some time cleaning up the house before the wife gets home this evening.

SJ – I had a feeling you were going to say that.  I like them both equally.  The BLT is better with fresh tomatoes and it is pretty difficult to mess it up.  The crab cake sandwich very much depends on the quality of the crab cake and those can be tricky to get right.

Doug – I had one typing class and also one computer class which forced us to type in high school.  They have served me well and I’m glad I had them. 

Fife – Thanks for the link.  That is an extremely cool site.  The LV scheme looks great and I may have to splurge on one of the Lionel models when released.

Kev – I hope the re-retirement is going well.  You’re right, more often than not the kids are behaving the way the parents let them or taught them.  I can’t wait to see those new passenger cars on the layout. 

Jack – Thanks for the encouragement.  As a Sox-hater I would love to see them finished for the year, but as recent years have proven I can’t say that yet.  They still have a great deal of talent on that team and a revival is always possible.  Please PM me your mailing address when you have a moment.  I need to send you something and don’t worry, it’s not a Yankees shirt.

Box work performed.  Hole in floor [6X4 section cut out and replaced] repaired with reinforcement.  Hardwood flooring removed [about 64 square feet of hardwood flooring was at entrance].  Grady did not show up and finish his plaster removal.  Ready to strip the ceiling and put up new ceiling.  Then spray ceiling.  Patch holes in walls.  Spray walls.  Put down flooring.  Spray flooring.  Then, build benchwork.

Got back home a little while ago. Been down at my parents place looking after my mother and getting some more laundry done. Got her breakfast, lunch and dinner today. Hopefully my father should be home tomorrow and I can get a break. Today when I was bringing her lunch one of her poodles came up behind me and barked. Lunch was ALMOST all over the room as I headed for the ceiling then came down cussing a blue streak that sent the dog running for cover. Ever seen the road runner come up behind Wile E and go beep-beep? Same effect! If he had a removable 'barker' I'd rip it out and seal it in an airtight box. I'm tired and I'm sore and in a while it'll be time for me to prepare MY dinner. Won't that be a change.

Good evening everyone.  Has been quite the week so far.  Ended up working till past eleven last night.  Some long cases that kept me there for some time.  This morning my daughter asked if I would go to "career day" for her class.  I plan on toning things down a bit from the last time I did one.  I brought a real human heart from the lab.  It looked like an episode of Quincy, I lost four high schoolers on that one...one passed out and three vomited.  This time, I am bringing a plastic model and some other instruments we use.  Of course it is to a first grade class.

Kev, thanks, this is a lesson on patience. Regarding the crane, if it just for display, as in you are not looking at using a motorized version, you may want to look at the one from the Santa Fe set that Lionel had about ten years ago.  I have one that I plan on detailing and leaving in one spot.

Fife, was not sure what that dance was.  I thought it was the Curley Shuffle!  Look forward to seeing the photos of your haul.  My visuals don't quite cut it.

Chief, sounds like you are getting a good amount of work done on the box.  Hope the contractor types get their part done before too long.

Ray, thanks for the further details on the 844.  Shame it happened, but it is nice to have a person in the know here.  Hope they get her back up and running soon.  Also hope they were able to salvage some from the tool car.

I AM BEAT!

On way home TheQ said she was hearing a squeel when she turns the steering wheel. Me: "Must be the mice in the engine compartment." TheQ: "WHAT??!!" Me: "I'm just kidding. Could be the rack and pinion steering." TheQ: "That sounds expensive." Me: "Yep, because Nissan packed EVERYTHING so tightly under the hood."

I wasn't kidding. The ONLY parts of the rack that you can see are the boots! And YES the passenger side is wet, nothing else around the boot is wet, just the boot. Which usually means a seal is ruptured. I had to add 6 oz of PSF to the system. I also rotated her tires, so I could check the brakes - rear are in dire need of replacement - front are OK, so have to order rear brakes and rotors ($125.00), and I changed the oil.

Jeffrey - the dog ala road runner and coyote story was good! Glad you survived it! for your mother.

Day was pretty nice. Haven't seen the news yet but not sure it hit 84 today - but it was nice and breezy - like being on the beach in Honolulu - with the humidity also.

Got the 3 posts set, leveled, and concrete set. Made braces out of 2x4's with a 2 3/8" hole to go over the posts and then attached to the top of the existing fence to keep the posts secured while dumping in the concrete and water. All looks good. Will buy pickets tomorrow night and hang the stringers.

               I am not sure what makes Japanese atuomakers cram everything so tightly under the hood.  Mazda did it too on the vehicles that used the KL series V6.  Figuring out where the part  you're looking for is, getting to it, then getting your arm unstuck is half the fun.  If you like playing with power steering, I got a job for you the next time you are in the area.

Got the MGW shifter out of the Mustang and reinstalled the original after packing the ball and socket with grease.  It isn't cool when a supposed $260 upgrade proves to be a downgrade.  Much happier with the stock shifter.  Going to call MGW in the morning to see what can be done about a return.

Have not had much time for the layout lately since I've been hitting the books preparing for the CompTIA A+ certification exams in my free time.

Howdy guys - well, Kev and Jack, it's about 500 sq ft of wall.  I think it's about 90 feet long and then curves into the hill on either end?  Maybe closer to 100 linear feet including the curves, and about 5 to 6 feet above ground, so need permit.  Frankly, the first thing I have to find is our copy of the land survey from when we built this house, as there is an easement at the very back of our property and I want to make sure exactly where it is.  We then want the remaining hill to be graded out with some new dirt back to the very back of the property with a single height "stopper" of railroad ties along the very back edge of the property just to stop erosion and give me a nice line for mowing.  Can spray along that and mow to it.

Back to work today - blah.  So much work stacked up while I as gone and stuff didn't get done, of course.  Usual story.  As a cherry on top, we had to complete an employee survey at the end of the day - perfect timing!

Prayers for Doug and I sure hope they can save your hamburger eating tooth, SJ! Hope you can take it easy for a couple days, Jeffrey.

Brent, I remember my dad replacing the seals and ball joints on my mother's Buick century, it was front wheel drive and a pain in the backside, but not nearly as bad as a friend's 280 ZX, that thing, you had to drop the engine in order to change the oil filter.  After one time, you cut part of the fire wall out so you didn't go through that mess again!  Good luck on that.

The sun eventually went away today but it remained warm and pleasant.  The kids and I made the house ready for the wife’s return.  She was happy to be home especially to a very clean house.  I grilled some bratwurst for dinner; the wife was cool with something simple since she had a long flight.  She brought the kids some cool goodies and some new clothes for me. She said my summer wardrobe needed some updates.  I’m not sure when my plaid shorts went out of style.  She was pretty tired and turned in early tonight.  I have some schoolwork to do and I will be off to bed soon enough.
