Got the new toy today Wisconsin Central Plymouth Switches set and the wife and I love it but.........
I asked these questions also. on the forum
As luck would have it seems the smoke unit is not working. Have tried switch in both direction ran 15+min with 3 drops of fluid but nothing.
Other question is I have seen these switchers with standard 0 gauge couplers, mine only has the Kaydee scale couplers. Anyone know if mine will accept the 0 gauge couplers and where I can get some? I have sent this question to Dean at the train Dr.
I have been playing with it since it got here and wifey wants me to help put of Christmas stuff. Ha Ha that is no fun.
Check it out.

Dennis, will make a nice size layout. Ray, not taking out but one wall. Wall between bath and master bedroom. That will make that room larger.
Heard three spaced shots at lease this AM. Buddy rushed down to check it out. Found nothing. I went this PM and saw hole in galvanized trash can we use to store fish food and deer corn. Some folks.

Kev I believe they came with regular couplers it having KayDee tells me someone else put them on and the smoke unit not working tells me the set is used. But it still looks like a great set. Believe it or not back around 5 years ago when they came out and K-line was going under places like boscov's had those sets listed for about $39 I seem to remember sending laz a copy of the avertisement. Wish I would of pick a few up as there now selling for about $75 to $100 each some times even more. They were trying to dump them.
I didn't know they had smoke thou. probally have to replace the smoke unit. might check to see if a wire is off on the inside.
Oh my NS set is supose to be here the 6th ( should of already had it.)

well we got the back yard raked up into piles today and I have about 3/4 of a load in the back of the truck will finish loading it tomorrow. Realized it would be a lot easier if I had a pitch fork so guess will be looking for one of those this next year so next year I will have one. Would make it so much easier loading it into and out of the truck. Still have the drive way and front yard to do the drive way is the worst of the 2 but its not that bad really so all will be done by Tuesday doing a little each day. Yeah chief I know if I had a Deere with a auto bagger I would be done well I don't have a yard to warrant it as my yard is less than a 1/4 acre.
Need to add coil couplers to my other NYC PA-1 have everything just need to do it so either tonight or tomorrow morning that will be my project.
think I will after Christmas start working on my dual shelf layout and look into finally replacing carpet in den with hardwood flooring this way I can use the den as my practice area want to get the carpet out thats in here as it was here when we bought the house and it actually reminds me something torn out of another room in the house and put in down here and the only thing big enough would of been the living room. I honestly believe its cement under the carpet so I will have to make sure floor is flat and then put down some type of mat for the flooring to float/lay on. will be fun as will end up moving items around as I put floor down.
Well it is 4 pm and the furnace guys are still here. Do you think it had anything to do with disappearing an hour+ for lunch and then the lead guy disappears for another hour????

Kev I have the Ford Plymouth set. It has couplers made by K-Line , not K-D. the coupler on your engine will mate with a regular knuckle coupler(K-Ds will not). It also came(in the box) with regular knuckle couplers that you could install. It is a good smoker, so if yours won't smoke you have a problem. Bet you bought it off the Bay huh. Mine came new from York for $100.

SJ,
Yeah I got it from E-bay HuH! But it came with the scale couplers, said so right on the box. I can get the regular 0 gauge couplers for $ 4.00 each. I see the newer ones have the extra couplers with them.
How hard is it to remove the shell to look at the smoke unit?
I can get that but it is $32.00. So I want to look around inside first.
I gave $76.00 and thought that was not too bad for the set because the new switchers list out at $99.00.
Good thing is the wifey likes it. She thinks it is cute and it does look on the logging site so I want to be able to hook it to some of those cars. May just install one 0 gauge coupler so I can haul both cars.
Oh well I have sent a question to the seller but have nothing yet from him.
Tks,
Kev.
Roy you had better have the Chief give them a breathalyzer. Thanks for the master plan I will let you know how it goes ordering the switch. Later, Got to cook dinner for the wife, she is still messing with the Christmas decorations and tree. Kev.

Spent the day with a younger woman...and her Dad tagged along. What a pretty baby Brent has. And pleasant. Greenberg show was crowded, I picked up my Christmas present (no, y'all have to wait ). In honor of our good buddy, Jim Sturgeon, I finally located the FROSTY BAR in salmon pink with the "stainless steel" counter top ($9). I am happy. Also, picked up a handsome flatbed truck with grape loads for my winery building. And, in honor of our new doodle, StourbridgeLion, the hand stamp for the show was the D&H shield.

Roy -- do you have Geothermal system? I can't imagine your bill on a Saturday, my sympathies Hope it doesn't affect the train budget.......
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Kev you did check the on/off switch? when in neutral you should be able to hear the smoke fan running.
We're back! I notice the TARDIS is missing - someone must still have it out for a ride Bet the tank is empty too
Pizza should be here any minute - so I'll be back (ARNOLD!)
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
I did and I can't hear anything or see anything in the stack. Have you had the shell off of yours?
kev.
Jon - no geothermal unless being hot under the collar counts! Train budget is toast with this system. Wrote 'em a check
Well they are finally gone and we have HEAT! SWMBO will be very pleased.
I also did some cleaning in that part of the attic to get some junk out of there while I had a cler path without the furnace in the way.
Kev - I know some of the Plymouths came with both sets of couplers. I do not know about a smoke unit. I took one apart once - but that was last year and I do not remember a smoke unit. It was the Ford MoCo version and it both KD and toy train couplers.
Yesterday I looked at my electric bill for last month. I could tell right away the ac and heat hadn't run much. It was only $42. Usually it's between $60 and $90.
Well waiting for SJ or Pat to show up with the tardis so we can get going on it.
Jeffrey, Hope your happy with that bill … It is less than half of mine! SJ and Roy, I went ahead on the Plymouth switcher and with the thought ( you can't break what is already broken ) I removed the shell and found the smoke fan motor was not running. So I gave it a wack and away it went. Must have been stuck from never being run. It is smoking almost toooo good now. That is it for me today, think I will have a and watch It’s a wonderful life. Again. Night all, Kev

Kev,,Thimbs up. The Plymouth's all had smoke and come with scale couplers attached. Also included are Lionel size knuckle couplers. But the scale one on the engine will mate with a full size knuckle coupler. No big news today, I just kinda goofed off.
Brutus the Tardis landed some where in your neighborhood. It ran out of fuel. When I tried your credit card for fuel it was maxed, probably because of your trip...banilla for all....S.J.
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Jim, looks like you had a lot to say... Kevin, I was going to post about the Plymouth switcher, but seems everything is OK now. I have three or four sets, can't remember how many. I also picked up some of the box car sets that came with scale couplers. I think I may even have a set of Skelton log cars that will go with them too. Fun sets to be sure.
Chief, good luck with your train house should be a nice project. It would be great if you are able to catch those giving you problems on your land. We have CCTV cameras with night vision to catch any such people.
Well, we went to the local Christmas parade. Was good and kids had fun. Then took the family to IHOP for lunch. Was a good day. Time for bed. God bless, Dennis

Mixed bag of weather today. Mostly rain and windy. The sun did make an appearance for the Christmas parade mid-morning today.
Got the wiring in place on my Polar Express layout. Tomorrow, we'll 'make it snow' on the layout. Hopefully, more progress pictures tomorrow.
Fastrack wiring tip - If you use push on connectors without insulators, plug them into the tabs on the end of the sections of Fastrack that do not have the metal strip connecting the outside rails to each other or use heat shrink tubing on the connectors.
I didn't do either. As the locomotive got to the section of track with the power connection there was a flash of light from underneath the track, and the breaker tripped on the Powerhouse - OOPs.
All for now.
Good evening all,
I hope Dennis V8 Vega and D.Baker or anyone else in Southern California will see this post. I just learned that the Christmas meet at TTOS Southwestern in Arcadia California tomorrow has been cancelled because of power outages in that City.

Reclinerized too long. All the blow ups in the front are up and shining. Now Wifey wants one in the back. Picked up more dusk to dawn timers and drop cords. Parade at 2 PM tomorrow. Got my wave "down pat". Wifey, Lucy, Finn and self ride in back of pickup. Sleep tight.
Wake up chief you have the parade today you need to get ready and practice your wave some more.
Morning all woke up early. Guess its time to make my self some breakfast.
Need to retake some pics to post on ebay.
Need to do Christmas cards today. Also finish the leaves ( wife just reminded me) Told her give me a break its only 6a.m. she just didn't want me to forget ( no chance of that) Smack
well will talk to you all soon
Oh RI Jack were still working on it
Good morning. It's 65° and cloudy. The high will be 72°. It will be cloudy with a 50% chance of showers.Today I plan to have a general cleanup on the layout. There's quite a bit of clutter from recent projects and it's starting to take over. Yesterday I had to make repairs on an Athearn tractor trailer as the fifth wheel had broken off. A drop of super glue later and it was back where it belonged, after I peeled my fingertip off the back of the truck that is. I gave a good two hours to dry before reattaching the trailer so there was no possibility of them being permanently joined. I also went to Lowe's to get two bottles of super glue gel, two rolls of one inch wide masking tape, three mis-tinted paint samples, a new light switch and ten rolls of paper towels. Then on to Wal-Mart to get the second half of the grocery shopping done. Wal-Mart was a mad house as it seemed everybody else had the same idea. Today I'll be recovering from that.
