For the 9th time here we go!

  HI GUYZ,

Been trying to post here all morning.  E mail CHUCK and BUCKEYE to see if the new SNO HI O Canon was blocking my posts.  Read what JEFF in La. said and going to try this.

Went to MOMs and did the last day o rifle season for deer.  No deer still have FLINTLOCK SEASON the day after Christmas.  Only saw 1 deer all season in the woods, but walking the dog saw 53 go figure.  Put on lots o miles making drives for BRO and Uncle.  They saw some doe but no antlers.

Just got back from rails to trails and took my MINNIE DOG for a nice easy 2 miler.  It was a nice cool 37 degrees out.

JOE D, nice to here you are settling in Japan.  The K-line diesels will run on 0-31.  Here is a e bay listing.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/K-Line-K2412-0722HS-CSX-SD70MAC-722-Diesel-Engine-/260884964491?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item3cbdf4a48b

DOUG M, GO BEARS hope they win one?

JEFF in LA. Thanks in advance hope this works?

Stay frosty,

Good morning all,

Getting ready for rain starting tonight for the next couple of days.  Snow forcast for the mountains.

Ran some trains yesterday and discovered a tire that needed replacement on an MTH 4-8-4 Premier ATSF steam engine.  Got out my 9mm socket wrench and started to take off nut holding connecting rod on.  The sleeve that the nut screws into came out with the nut.  Never had that happen before.  I stuck it in a vice to hold the sleeve so I could back out the nut.  Same thing happened on the next adjoining axle.  Got it all back together and hope it stays put.  Somebody and I don't know who tightened those nuts so much that they would not break loose.  It was either the factory or repair shop where I had an upgrade done.

Got to get ready for church in another hour.

Another project around the house needs attention.  We have forced air heating in most of the house but in an add on at the back we have a heat pump because there was no way to run duct work back there.  My hand held controller for the thing seems to have no effect to turn it off or on and won't raise the temperature setting.  Right now it is stuck on 75.  Outside temp was about 42 this AM.  I turned it on and it put out heat for about one minute then started blowing cold air.  Thats about all I can get out of it.  I have to turn it off and on manually.  Tried to get a new controller from installer but it was unavailable.  Unit was made in Mylasia.  I have a service manual which tells you nothing.  Very frustrating.  I think I will go another round with the installer next week and see what can be done.  Whatever it is will probably big $.  I just got ripped off by our plumber for charging $130 for 5 minutes work.  They must have a minimum charge for service.  Think I will look for an independent handy man.

Picked up Christmas candy for gifts yesterday at See's Candy.  It is the best in Southern California IMH.  They just opened a new store near me which is a lot more convenient than going to the mall 15 miles away.

Happy day all,

Ray

Well I finally got some spare minutes to rub together and I was able to weather the well car. Next in line are the containers. They look way too clean!

Laz: You didn't happen to upgrade your browser to IE9 did you? If so look to the right of the address bar. There's a small icon there that looks like a torn piece of paper. Click that once and your problems should go away. If not you can switch to Firefox and transfer your favorites/bookmarks to that browser.

Not much going on today,

 Wife is still sleeping,

Installed some LEDs in the K-line MP-15 #2215 and they are great.

Roy, the shed is down to 40 today and furnace has not run yet. Shed is still living off of slab heat.

Have a good day,

Good Morning

25 with bright sun. I expected aches and pains this morning from yesterday's mall walking but everything seems to be in order. Peanut butter toast for breakfast but I'm still hungry so I might have to taste test some Christmas cookies. Lions football/nap on my afternoon to-do list. Maybe do both at the same time..S.J.

Aloha. Not as cold this morning. Keeping my germs home instead of spreading them at church.  Looking to swap out internet routers while everyone is gone. I get a kick of out the result of my asking our internet provider to replace the one I've got - they shipped me everything in 3 boxes with no instructions. Outsmarted myself. Should be pretty easy to puzzle out though.

Roy, I'll let you know!

Good morning. It's 35° and cloudy with some sun. The high will be 53°. The weather guesser is making noises about rain and snow. Now personally I don't think he knows what he's talking about.

I'm hoping to get a chance to weather my well car sometime today but the way things have been going lately frogs may sprout wings first. Here I don't even have my morning post done yet and my father already wants something. He won't say what so I'm fairly sure I won't enjoy it. I guess since I'm the one who has all this free time I must have time to do things for everybody.

Konbanwa,

We went to church this morning and then to Chili's (on base) for lunch.  We relaxed most of the day, but I spent about 45 minutes rearranging some of our items in our storage room and shed.  We don't have much space so we have to prudent.  I used the new grill tonight for the first time.  It's infrared and gets amazingly hot.  I blackened some cod fillets in about three minutes.  The great thing about such high heat is that the food does not dry out.  I need to read some schoolwork and get some sleep.

Does anyone know what radius curves K-Line scale diesels will navigate?  Choochoo has a couple listed but since K-Line is out of business I cannot find any information on them.  I only have O36 curves right now so I have to be careful when something is listed as scale.

Brutus - I hope Char gets well soon and nothing else creeps up.

Sayonara,

Joe

Morning all.  Got up to do my morning reading and prayers, then had to wake wife so she can wash her hair.  We are going to FIL's house to have Christmas with that half of the family.  I really don't like missing church, but for my bride, one Sunday a year is alright.

Plan is we will stop off in Columbus on way home to check out any deals on train sets, and I am sure shoes or some other items of female interest for the fairer ones of the family.  I am hoping to get home in time to do some work on the train table.  Have a few minor details to work out prior to having trains running for Christmas.

Chief, I too have had to hold off in pulling the trigger due to someone else's schedule. That is alright as I have had my share of deer in my sights.  Speaking of trigger, there is a new program on the Military channel called"Triggers".  This episode is on the M1Garand.  I have one that has been accurized, and it is a pleasure to shoot!  We will hold the line here in case that infiltrator heads this way.

I hope that each of you has a blessed day.  I also hope that y'all don't get too cold.

Dennis

Well it was a busy day for me. I WAS going to weather my well car today but suddenly life started getting in the way. First my father calls and wants me to go check on my mother because he can't get through to her on the phone. So I go check on her. She's fine. Sitting up in bed watching TV. I check out the phones. Nothing. No service. There's ten phones in the house and two more outside making for an even dozen and not a one of them works. So I go back to my place and call my father and tell him she's fine and the phones are all dead. Well then next he wants me to call Suddenlink and set up a service call. That took up the next forty-five minutes which I'll never get back. Got that done. Now I'm going to start on weathering the well car. Phone rings. It's my mother. Somehow she figured out how to dial out on her cell phone. She wants to know if I'm available to take her to town. First to Buffet City for lunch then to Stage then Lowe's then Ivan Smith Furniture. All this in a car I have never once driven. I didn't even know if I could get my five inch wide boot to the gas pedal without hitting the brake in the process. Well it turns out there was a little over an eighth of an inch clearance. I had to be careful that my boot didn't hook under the end of the brake pedal. Before I drive it again I'll have to lope off half an inch of the brake pedal to make the car safe for me to drive. Oh, what kind of car is it? Nothing much, just a Pontiac G6 with a retractable roof and the ability to take off from a dead stop like a Camaro Z28 running on nitro methane. A very sporty little car and very fast! So we go to Buffet City and have lunch. A very big lunch. Then we went over to Stage so she could sort through some clothes that had been picked out for her. That took longer than she expected. Somehow I wasn't surprised. Good thing was she was wiped out by that time and wanted to go home. On the way back we stopped at a furniture store (not Ivan Smith) so she could look at a new couch. Too late! Somebody else had already snatched it. We got back to the house sometime around three. My father was home by then so I talked with him for a time. He was going through his mail. Most of it was junk. To hear his comments about it is like having a comedian in the house! He comes up with some one liners that put Archie Bunker and Fred Sanford to shame. One of those was about his electric bill, which hadn't come yet. All the others had come. Mine, my sisters, my niece, my nephew, but not his. Well, it was probably so big they needed more time to print the extra pages then worship it in hopes of getting a dividend or a revocation of a volume discount. Maybe they were trying to figure a way to bill him for the extra paper. By that time I was a quivering pile of jelly on the floor. I had to get out of there. I bade them goodbye - see y'all later and I was out the door. I had other things to keep me busy at home for a while and I never did get to weather the well car. Oh, my electric bill is the smallest one. A mere $55.

See y'all tomorrow.

Sorry we missed you guys - we were on last night and again tonight?  Nice chat with SJ tonight, but no world problems were solved.

Routed a wider groove in a wooden base to accept a glass dome my wife bought.  It worked pretty well, but that super-fine dust from the fake wood base is hazardous.  I took precautions, but I can still smell it - yuck!

Worked 4 hours OT this morning, then stopped at Radioshack and picked up a crimper and some new plastic connectors for ethernet cable.

Char has a little cold going on - just a bit of coughing and tightness in her chest right now.  We're watching it carefully.

TARDIS is ready, so let's get moving guys Thumbs Up

Good Evening

25 cold degrees.

I got my exercise today. Walked 2 malls with daughter and family. Granny stayed home. It was good to get out and not have to drive with the Christmas crazies. We ate at a good but overpriced placed called Champs. I think they are a chain. Banilla will be waiting...S.J.

Turned cold this evening.  Actually was a great deer hunting day.  Never got below freezing last night.  Stayed cool but not cold until almost dark.  Now tomorrow is a different story.  COLD.

By the grace of God and the Chief, three does [especially one big one] are still alive.  Had them under one of my feeders near one of my stands this afternoon just before dark.  Actually Pam had something to do with it.  Seems there was a wedding at Church late today.  Church was undecorated for the wedding [guy is being deployed so wedding was pushed forward].  I had to help Wifey [on the committee] redecorate.  Time was to be back by 6:30 or soon there after.  If I had shot, would not have made it back in that time frame.  She will wait for Fred to take the shot.  He is the one that wants the meat for his freezer.

Chief, I think we really need to secure that border, that is one scary buckeye heading our way!

Got it covered.  He is not due for some time.  I will have photos of him in the special snare.

Off to Subway for a dinner sub.  Wifey has now gone to a "girls" party.

Later.

Nice sunny day in the 40's today.

Broke down the Polar Express Layout, took it to the KATY depot (three trips), re-set it there, ran it for the kids, broke it back down, and carted it home again. Pretty much wiped me out today.

Worth it though, 'cause the kids at the program enjoyed the layout.  I pointed Santa's arrival out to one little fella .  He glanced in Santa's direction, gave a 'so what' kind of look and waited for the train to come around again.  I think he might be a future poster on the Pot.

No mechanical problems, and the P.E. Berkshire was smoking better than I've ever seen it.  Probably the uphill grade and extended operation was causing the smoke unit to run hotter. The only problems were minor ones - due to the operator.

All for now.  I'll post pictures later.

Good afternoon, pretty day here.  The kids had their violin recital this morning.  Our daughter started off a bit rough, then I told her play what you want.  She started playing an old folk song and played quite well.  Then both kids joined in on a duet and it was great!  Took the FIL and his wife out for lunch.  Absolutely stuffed.  Wife is wrapping presents with the kids as we have Christmas with one side of my bride's family tomorrow.

V8 Dennis, yeah, we have a lot of fun with 22's and pellet guns.  We take eye hooks and screw them into the golf balls, then we tie a string and string them up from a board at set distances.  It is a fun time. With regard to buying more guns, think my wife would not like that too much...there would be gnashing of teeth!  The squirrels around here are prime targets.  The ones that one of my friends won't cook, I leave for the hawks and eagles.

Doug, glad you are on the mend.  I have been posting with the iPad for some time now.  Getting used to the typing is a little different, but you get used to it.  I have only experienced a few times when the message didn't post.  Not sure what the source of the problem is, but it happens too few times to worry.

Chief, I think we really need to secure that border, that is one scary buckeye heading our way!

Currently watching a program on the 24 hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Pretty good show.

Have a blessed night,

Dennis

Good morning all, it's almost noon.  Got up late today.  We had dinner out last night with church friends at a place where we haven't been for a while.  The place used to be a bank so now they call it the village vault.  BTW the vault is still there, they made a restroom out of it.

Sent a long Christmas letter and update to an old friend of mine in Virginia who is suffering from Lou Gerig disease.  Also sent nice Christmas forwards to other friends and relatives.

Jeffrey, hope you make it to the new year before seeing the doctor.  Of course, you could always go to the emergency room if you had to.  At least here, they have to see you by law.  We certainly do need a better healthcare system.  The way it is now, the hospitals have to charge the people with Insurance more to cover those without it, so what's the difference.  We will have to pay one way or the other.

V8 Dennis, sounds like you and your buddy are a big threat to golf balls.  Sounds like fun though.  I'm afraid that gun collecting would turn into another obsession for me.  One hobby is all I can afford.

Sleep well tonight, The Chief is on duty watching out for those pesky Northern Squirrels who are invading the South.  He can shoot their eyes out at a thousand yards with a BB gun.

Turned down an invitation from a friend of mine to go to L.A. Union Station today for the 40th anniversary celebration of Amtrak.  There is a special train on display and Santa Fe steam engine number 3751 fired up for the occasion.  Somehow, I just couldn't get motiviated to go downtown early this morning.  Having worked for the railroad myself, sort of takes the excitement out of it.  I still enjoy my O gauge trains though.

Chuck, hope you made it to the train room today.  Your track probably needs cleaning if you haven't run for a long time. I know mine gets that way when I don't run often.

Got two Christmas get togethers coming up next week.  Only problem is that they are both on the same night.  Might go to one and just go for desert on the second one.

Have a nice weekend y'all,

Ray
